What do we got to do?

Jeff Buckley 0:02
The tables? I can't read the table. Yeah, we gotta go to videos. But each one of the tables Yeah, I'll be back. No, they won't they tonight's only night. And Flowtech I just got you guys set up with him about doing a video with him. If you sent on my list, what? low tech? You need to you need to talk to me. Because hey, you know how all these transmission companies are now saying that we have to hotflush the entire system. They've been saying that low tech years. They're they're not on my mind. No, but they're there until the Meyerbeer. They're not your record. Now they're out there. We can only do so many.

Lucas Underwood 0:44
You can only do so many diseases column shorter. He likes to cut things short. Now, when you're it's just like you guys just had one for an hour and 20 minutes. Well, within two hours, we can only do

Jeff Buckley 0:58
maybe six

David Roman 1:02
six interviews. Yeah. Remember, good topic really don't get to know people. We're just kind of brush crossed.

Jeff Buckley 1:11
Nobody's gonna watch an hour and a half video unless it's

Jeff Buckley 1:15
the top gun or something like that. Top it out. Listen.

Jeff Buckley 1:22
Tell me when you guys ready? We already started 20 minutes ago.

David Roman 1:32
Jeff, let me introduce you to a little website called YouTube. And on YouTube. There are something called Visual podcasts. And these people will sit down and they will have conversations. Don't look at me like I got two heads. This is real. They will have conversations that was my glass

David Roman 1:55
will have conversations a damn good fit for our show.

David Roman 1:59
Well, that's why we brought them on. I took care of that for you. Don't worry. I'm trying to create good content here for

David Roman 2:06
two to three hours long. Two to three hours long. And people will watch the entire thing. Yeah, two to three hours long. The watch. Watch it in one setting or is that break? Yes. No. Okay. A bit of both. Yeah. Because we work for a living and we have an if you work I live in

John Firm 2:27
trying to. Hey, we're here on Lucas podcast, changing the industry, changing industry, but I think they know where they're on. They're watching David. John firm. Yeah. John fern. Buchan Buckaroo Bob. Yeah. Right. Yeah, yeah, I nailed that sucker. I've been practicing all week. Have you know, yeah.

Jeff Buckley 2:53
Luckily, nothing after that.

David Roman 2:57
My father's shop is it is a great shop name, by the way. I love I love that name. Yeah, we created that name years ago. And it was because the Lord gave me the abilities to do what I do. And it's so funny when you call to get parts. They're like, Okay, what's the name of your shop? I'm calling from my father's shop. Okay, which

Lucas Underwood 3:21
that's awesome. Well, what's what's the name of my father's show? Well, what's your dad's name?

Jeff Buckley 3:27
What does that have to do with the name of my shop? Oh my god.

Jeff Buckley 3:32
Once they get it, yeah, they always remember Yes, right? Yeah, I am fine the shop

David Roman 3:38
Well, it's good shop name. This is pertinent Hey, we appreciate you inviting us out here. Your your shop names a little pedestrian Nikolai. Thank you for automotive. Yes. Like, well, yeah, there's nothing there. That's really firm. But

David Roman 3:52
that would that would make sense if you're like, well, because we're, you know, firm in our foundation. But it turns out, it's just your last name. Exactly. But you know, I don't put the apostrophe s on it. Firms automotive, it's firm automotive. Okay, there's no s there's no apostrophe s. And I've had people do business cards with the pasta. Yeah. And then I what I told you guys farm automotive, you know, I did that intentionally. So it's sellable. You like

Jeff Buckley 4:24
you like his new shirt or T shirt? Do the two different colors. Oh, I can't Can you believe so Lucas decided he was gonna get orange and hot pink. And they are the most grotesque things I've ever seen in my entire life. Now, nobody, nobody questions. Where are you from? Exactly. Yeah.

David Roman 4:44
That's my question. A lot of things about that decision. So the uniform guy shows I got where you're from when he has the pink. I know.

David Roman 4:54
He didn't look at the whole uniform. He just goes I don't know. That one.

David Roman 5:00
And he gestured generally towards the page and then the guy goes, well, I'm gonna grab the lowest selling uniform color combination. We have a white Smithson bonus. That whites have been sitting there for 10 years. Yeah, that's what they look like.

David Roman 5:18
That Exactly. He didn't pass along the discount. He just said, Oh, no, this is the trend, Mr. Underwood. And he's like,

Lucas Underwood 5:26
they added Mr. On the front of that. No, they say that when they're trying

David Roman 5:29
to sell them a bad bill.

Jeff Buckley 5:34
They don't even call me by my name.

John Firm 5:36
That's the song dude.

Jeff Buckley 5:37
I was gonna say is David Allen. Probably better not bringing him up. Yeah.

Jeff Buckley 5:44
Riley new are we getting? Yeah. Are you like, you can't talk Do you want to talk about wires? Have you ever seen wires like this? Underneath here?

Jeff Buckley 5:57
This thing right here they chew. That is this thing right here. This is why we

David Roman 6:03
had one rule Jeff one rule one rule.

Jeff Buckley 6:05
The story about

Jeff Buckley 6:07
the wires. It's like you take spaghetti and you throw it on the wall. It sticks so I guess that's what happened here. They

Jeff Buckley 6:16
do you know why it's like this now?

Jeff Buckley 6:17
Don't bother me. So I'm on camera. Well,

Jeff Buckley 6:20
this dude right here. Okay, we're gonna trade show. I my team went in. And they said everything. I thought he was

Lucas Underwood 6:27
your team? No, no, no, we were at APEC. Yes. I'm waiting on my team. And he showed up. He had this other guy. That was error this down. It was there.

Jeff Buckley 6:36
Yeah. Well, so I believe it or not, I have a repair shop. No, you're not holding the team. You are the you are the you play for the artist says

David Roman 6:48
this. This is a this is a promotion, because he normally calls me for help. And so

Jeff Buckley 6:56
when I come in, now we're going to talk

David Roman 6:58
about to help people clean up. Don't you worry about that.

Lucas Underwood 7:01
I'm talking about your shop name done with care. Auto Repair.

David Roman 7:06
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,

Jeff Buckley 7:07
you that's not a shopping. He's done with auto repair.

Lucas Underwood 7:10
I'm done with it says Dan with care. That's a typo. Yeah,

Jeff Buckley 7:14
they're supposed to take care. So you got a discount

Lucas Underwood 7:15
on your shirt? Well, they say they type good quality stuff here, the typo

David Roman 7:21
that and then they gave it to me it's such a cheap price on like, where to trade shows.

Lucas Underwood 7:27
Now we're just not going to talk a bunch of yeah, we're going to talk about some real. This is what honest stuff that we're changing the industry with. Here at eti.

Jeff Buckley 7:38
We're going to, I've got a question for you. And I hope I don't cross the line asking it

Lucas Underwood 7:43
you might well, you've been here all week, and you hadn't heard nobody pick on me.

Jeff Buckley 7:50
I try? Well, I want to ask a question. I've got a lot of friends who own shops. And a lot of them and I mean, this was absolutely no disrespect whatsoever. Right. But, but I've watched you go through some

Lucas Underwood 8:07
when they say I mean this with no dish, it's gonna be just a question. But and you know, you're all my friends.

David Roman 8:15
With all with all due respect, I can do whatever I want to meet with convention,

Jeff Buckley 8:22
to say this without saying, you know, like always say to Dutch, he's older. So you went through some health issues while back?

Jeff Buckley 8:30
Right. And recently,

Jeff Buckley 8:33
yeah, yeah. And so I guess my question for you is, is

David Roman 8:37
you're talking about his arm in a sling? Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

Jeff Buckley 8:41
I was off for three months.

Jeff Buckley 8:43
Right. And, you know, I've, I've watched you go through that. And I think about a lot of the shop owners that we work with, right? We all know a lot of shop owners, and a lot of them would not have had that flexibility and been okay, if they had to take off three months, and they were the only one they could depend on. I worry about a lot of the guys that I work with. And I've told a story here before David posted a video of it a while back. And it was about a shop owner. And the deal was is that he's in North Carolina. And we were trying to promote an event we were doing in North Carolina. And so we went to this shop. And we were just going shop to shop shop places we've never been before. And we walk in the shops absolutely packed full of people are packed full, of course. And there's this guy in there. And he looks just absolutely stressed to the max, you can just see it in his face. And we said hey, if you got a minute to talk, we want to talk about this training we're gonna do we're gonna do a lot of really good stuff. And it was really just a gathering thing. And he said, I don't know what makes you think I can get out of here. And the guy that was with me, so what what are you talking about? He said, I'm gonna die on this show. He said, right. I'm gonna die in this shop. And he said, the guy that's with me, so he me, he said, he said listen, he said only other shops, I mean, they're gonna die or commit suicide here. So only and I'm like they would. And he said, listen, he said, I was given this shop. He said, I worked for the people who owned it. He said, the husband started the shop, he passed away. And he said, then the wife passed away. And then it was Marsha. And he said, I don't see any way out of here, I don't see any way that I can have a life outside of this place. I don't see anything that I can do. And I see a lot of shop owners and I don't know about you guys, but I see a lot of shop owners who were in that similar boat, that if he had got hurt, right, like, if he had been in a situation like you where he had to have that work done, he wouldn't have been okay to, to continue on to, you know, financially and whatnot.

Lucas Underwood 10:48
Well, that's, that's not crossing the line or anything, because it's, I totally agree that there's ones that don't think that they can get out of the shop, don't think that they can close their shop, to take a vacation to have family time to enjoy it. And it just comes back to number one is which your philosophy number two is? We know what, what makes you happy? And why are you why are you making a living? Where are you, you know, running your shop, we decided I've had a big shop, we started in mobile service stations. So I had, you know, pump gas. Yeah, we had full service back then. And, you know, we had to buy and we did state inspections. And then we had a big shop that had did paint money and mechanical. Okay, and so I had painter kennix. And we actually had a big truck paint booth and we painted, you know, continental batteries, interesting battery, we painted, you know, big trucks, delivery trucks, I guess you would call them. And we transitioned in we went to what we have now. And basically, you know, because of the economy. The guy that owned our building, the first one, we, you know, they came in and was like, Okay, you should notice you're out of our building. And the second one, the and that was, there's a whole lot of stories behind. This was like, We got married November 11. And right before Christmas, we had bought a house bought a new wrecker, we'd bought all the stuff in the shop, so we could be the dealer. Right. And right before Christmas, they came in and sign the paperwork. And my name happened to last name happened to match the same last name is someone that they've had issues with family members. And he goes, Are you really do you know? So I was so. And I was like, Yeah, well, I'm sorry, my brother once my dad and he goes, Oh, you got three days to get on my building. And we had just bought a house.

Lucas Underwood 13:20
Holy cow. Quick and Simple. No.

Lucas Underwood 13:24
And so when you talk about going through different deals, it's like, okay, you just got married, you just, you know, how do you go through all that? And so then it was like, okay, so we moved on, we had this other job, it was a big meal then. And when the interest rate went way up, you know, when they had the adjustable rate mortgages, where we, where we lived, literally you could go up and down the street, and there would be three occupied houses on a whole street, you know, because the mortgage rates went up, interest rates went up, and people just walked away from the house, right? Well, the guy that owned our building owned a bunch of buildings. And he went bankrupt. And so he lost the buildings. And so the bank came in and said, Hey, you're not paying enough rent, and I'm like, what the deal was, and it's like, no, square footage wise, your rent should be three times Holy cow. And we said, okay, let's think about this. He can't keep these buildings full at this rate. Right? What in the world makes you think you can feel meant at three times the rate literally three times, all right. And so then we say we will buy the building, and they were like, We gotta keep it on the rolls and, you know, for a year take a loss. The guy in front of me, had a manufacturing business and our building was separate from the rest of them than where he lived. You know, and so he goes, Hey, don't worry about it, I'll buy the buildings, and then we'll make a deal. You work on my stuff. You know, they don't cover your rent. But I need the rest of the buildings, not yours. And so he tried to make a deal. And the bank was like, no. This was on a Friday, on a Sunday, they put a sign out in front of our shop for sale, your key and we call them and said, We'll sit down, say, well, you're out. Well, we know what happened was a friend of a friend goes, Hey, I got this one. Get this guy out. Now you got a business that already been running wrong. And so Fool me once. Fool me twice. So where we live in Midlothian, it was County, we went to the county and said, Hey, can we put your shop here? Can we Yeah, as long as you redshirt, you pay your taxes. And so we're fortunate that I don't have a commute Our shop is right behind our house, but it's on several acres. And so there was basically a little county route barely two lanes in a one lane bridge. And you could count how many cars went by, without taking your shoes off on a one day period, and one day. And so I did fleet stuff. And so I designed a system and saw the company, you know, when chocolate flakes, we had a fleet of like 77 vehicles that I took care of. And so we we decided years early her that my wife would be our one, you know, my wife would be stay at home mom, she was like, and so we've raised four children. So when we put the shop by the house on the same property, it was for a reason that number one we all get now. It's like foamy white swamp guys, you know, some it's mine, it's mine. And that's why a lot of these ones that don't own their property and stuff. It's like, I've been through that. So I know the issues. So we decided years earlier that we wouldn't have a big fancy new house, we wouldn't have brand new cars. But we would have a nice level house and we'd you know, my wife wouldn't be able to focus on we're not two incomes, my wife and be able to focus on raising the kids. Right. And it was country and we had them. Ponies horse, we had chickens, goats, we had, you know, rabbits, you know, we raised the kids, you know, to do to understand what work is to understand, you know what responsibilities are. And we raised, I like to say we raise our kids to be champions. And, you know, to be respectful and to understand and that was more important to us than then having a big shop and a bunch of employees, it was like, so if the kids had activities at the school, can just could go to home. If the kids got older and they did sports, I actually coached all of their So, and one time, you know, we have four of them playing basketball, I coached all four basketball teams. And so you know, have the time to do that. And so you just make adjustments you decide what's important to you, what makes you know what, what you want to leave behind. And Dutch said something the other day he goes, and you guys were around, and he goes, You know, when they put me in the ground. I think I do throw all that stuff on top of me now. It's like so you got to understand what makes a difference what makes it meaningful. And so, you know, if I if the kids had a game in the evening and do that, so I have to get up early in the morning to work, I might stay late, you know, we go to their, if they had activity or some we'd go to it and then I'd come home and if I was out there late working. And years later, when my kids were teenagers, one of them said several of them, you know, said you know, Dad, we appreciate what y'all have done for us because we go to school and all of our friends, you know, their dad is traveling, their dad is working all the time, you know, their mom or mom and dad is working, you know and it's like they're like oh my gosh, your parents come down and saying oh my gosh, you know our parents are never around. Oh my gosh. You know and at that point you understand you know that they realize and it's like you know they didn't have the Michael Jordan shoes and and the fancy clothes but they always had clothes to wear and they had you know and when it came to cars, they're friends We'd have brand new cars in high school, Rob, and Nicolas, and within a week or two, you know, they'd wreck or whatever. And my kids would say, hey, and I said, Let me tell you some, you're never going to have a better car than I am, unless you go by. And but they always had somebody drive, we we get customers cars that, you know, they were like, Hey, we're gonna try to get in, okay, well, you're not gonna get nothing and, and, or needed some repairs, and they like, we don't want to put money in it. And you know, we would get him some fix them, because that's what we do. And of course, back then I could do pain body and, and mechanical stuff, it was no matter what the car looked like, I could make it look like new because I used to fix up, what would call it classic cars. Now, I used to do all that stuff. And we'd paint them and it was like, you know, mechanic looks at it once. A good looking car that needs repairs, thank mighty guy wants car that runs. Because they can fake so I could do either do both. So it didn't matter. It makes loans. So that's what we've done. And then as we as the kids got older and everything, and it's like, okay, we've had the, the shop where we had, you know, the, the gas station, and we had the shop where we had employees. And now, it was like, Okay, we scheduled when the kids were going, Okay, we got this event. So we when scheduled anything, we wouldn't bring anything in. And it was like, you know, that's just what we decided work for us. And then as the kids got older, it was like, Okay, do we need to bring someone in. And, you know, you didn't have as much issues as it is now trying to find a technician, you know, you'd bring a young kid in you and train them and stuff like that. It just, you know, it was like, Okay, we just, that isn't what worked for us, you know, because people like, we heard one, one of the guys sits here with the grid was like, Okay, I got three shops and five shops or something like this. And, and John's over here going on next year, you know, this year, my goal is $3 million. And it's like, okay, well, you know, that just it wasn't, you know, what, what was necessary for us? Yeah. And,

Jeff Buckley 22:30
and we talk about that a lot, right, is that those goals can be arbitrary, right? And you can just grow and grow and grow, but still not have what you need to be happy.

Lucas Underwood 22:38
And you can take in a ton of work and be busy but not be profit. Absolutely. You can. You can be covered up, busy, and not be making money. And we learned years ago, what jobs are profitable, what jobs and you know, when you talk about changing the industry and the podcasts and having coaches and having all these other different deals? It's like, okay, there's so many guys and they'll listen and they they ask questions on your podcast, they ask questions on the a sock deal. Oh, hey, what about this? Hey, what about and it's like, I cute and listening. Okay, you need to understand, you know, don't say yes to everything. Yeah, exactly. You know, and then you can have time if the guy was covered up with work, but it's like, okay, he can't leave. You know, we we, the first time we decided, hey, we take off our weekend, take a vacation, you know, with the family. And it was like, Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, is the work gonna be here when we come back? Or the people are gonna, you know, keep keep coming. Or they can keep bringing it to us. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. And it's like, you can make yourself sick worrying. Or you can just schedule and then you tell your customers Hey, we're off that way. It's just family time. People understand? Oh my gosh, you know, it's family time. Oh my gosh, you need that you're a mom, you're and because their moms their dads and they're like oh yeah, you know, we take off and go to Disney and we you know, and it's like yeah, they understand. It's not we take off but that's

David Roman 24:14
very much a product of the area that you're in. I'm just what it was. So it's in a unique area. People are understanding your area i i get we moved our time are opened time back a half hour because I dropped my kids off at school. And my service advisor also drops his kids off at school. We could not be at the shop on time consistently to open the shop at a certain time. So just move back to the time half hour. You would not believe the comments I get. What do you mean you open it? Those are those are banker hours. Yeah, well, but what do you mean,

Lucas Underwood 25:02
you also have to make? A lot of people don't have the early drop off or the late pickup, and

David Roman 25:10
you try to make it convenient. Yeah, right, we do that.

Jeff Buckley 25:14
Now you have the drop boxes,

David Roman 25:16
the issue is the waiting. So if I've been in business over 10 years, but if in the first like five years, I just shut the shop down for a month, two weeks, we wouldn't have customers, they'd be gone. I just wouldn't have any. And you know, you'd be like, Okay, well, this isn't going to be just one or two weeks of no revenue. This is gonna be six to eight weeks of no revenue, because I need to get more people in and know that they can call who's answering my phone. Every single time those phone calls come in, somebody's got to answer the phone. Because if I don't care how loyal they are, the problem is a plethora of options. That's what becomes the problem in on my street, within a half mile south half mile north, they're probably 20 shops 20 Meaning if you've got a brake squeal, they're not going to wait because they've decided to take off when the whole shop shut down for two weeks and they're going to why they couldn't give it to grab. I've got a brake problem now. I'm not waiting two weeks.

Lucas Underwood 26:28
And that's all part of educating your consumer, your your customer. We're blessed. The area where we are is a nice, nice area. You know, we give you numbers on you know, the average price of a house in Midlothian is $350,000 You know, in our neighborhood, there's down the street and it was rural. So they built in neighborhoods. And so they're winning neighborhoods here. And so, you know, down the street, the houses are 500,000 I'm gonna

David Roman 27:07
send them an Oscar Gomez area $350,000 house doesn't exist. Well, more. It's an alley that's.

Jeff Buckley 27:14
That's California, though. Yes. And so

John Firm 27:18
he's been kind of real modest about his neighborhood, okay. And he sits on a little two and a half acre lot. I'm sure it's worth about three mil. Yeah. And it's got an old house on it. And a barn it looks like a shop. The guy next door just has a house and I bet he could sell it for 3 million, and then come in and wipe the house out and build a brand new one.

David Roman 27:41
But when did you buy that? That plot when we will

John Firm 27:45
know what came over on the arc? Way back in the beginning?

Lucas Underwood 27:48
You know when you talk about you've been in business 10 years and Lucas just built a new deal, but he's made him business. Well, John's been 22 weeks.

John Firm 27:56
Brand new. Is this

Lucas Underwood 27:58
trying to phase his first day? Yeah, we've been at that location going on 30 years. I've been in business 40 years. And so many times we talk about marketing and that'd be another subject for another podcast on all these ones that they're marketing pros and experts and everything and you walk in my shop. We've won.

John Firm 28:21
Oh yeah. The wall of fame. When you walk in his shop. You got his picture with him and micros and butcher with him and micros did I say picture him macro? There's a couple of those. Okay. It's all the racecar drivers. He knows what was the lady's name and NAS card and now

Jeff Buckley 28:39
we're talking about that Danica. Oh, Monica.

David Roman 28:49
But he has a wall of fame.

Lucas Underwood 28:51
Best in Ellis County. And they came out that four years ago and we've won every year and not mid locked in that county. We've won Best in DFW southwest. That's like two or three counties. We've won. And if he of course is

John Firm 29:10
another trophy he'll have

Lucas Underwood 29:14
I got a I got a question. And so it's part of how your marketing is part of how your

David Roman 29:20
well you got to see some of that as long as your longevity. Yeah. You know, what's your question?

Jeff Buckley 29:25
But did you ever feel like giving up?

Lucas Underwood 29:29
You know, it's like, okay, you can either you guys ask what's the name of the shop so you can either when adversity hits you, we got married all sudden, it's like, you know, you get the rug pulled out from underneath you, you just got a mortgage, you just got a new wrecker, all that and it's like, okay, and so you can either go while with me, whoa with me. Or you can say, Okay, let's go on and You know, we went to the gym and built that out. And then it's like, you lose that. And you're like, Okay, I've got, you know, four kids now and, and what do we do? Oh my gosh, and just like you just, you just always wake up and go again. Yeah, go back to work, you know, you have to have that mentality. It's, you know, a lot of it out there is Oh, right now is oh, you owe me or oh, you know, entitled to? And it's like, okay, we're from the old generation, you work for it, you earn it. And so when those things happen, it's gone. And it's like, okay, we gotta, you know, we gotta go on. And so, I guess it's going on six years, seven, six years, I had a heart attack. And they saved my life. And, and it was like, okay, so we had, it was like, it's like, the Lord takes care of stuff if you don't get in his way. Yeah. And that was back when I did the micro commercially it was, it was like, a blessing because they had called and said, Hey, we want you to try out these brakes. So we had a heart attack. And it's like,

David Roman 31:21
okay, we wanted you to try like brake pads. So we

Lucas Underwood 31:24
try them first. We were like, I don't want to say a beta tester. It was like, they picked a bunch of shops to try these brake pads. And then you had to, they would send them to you, you'd say, hey, I need brakes for 98. Suburban, they would send you the brakes. And you'd put them on and then you fill out a form and submit it to him. Hey, what do you think I had to go? Do they fit my bomb? So we're gonna break through the Wagner brake pads? Which line? Oh, we X? Oh, yeah, that's a commercial was for kind of a big deal. Oh, you're so

John Firm 32:07
this is words, he made that up for the advertiser. That's a cool story. Kind of a big deal. You know, and the guy that was putting on got all upset, he said that and came to and said, That's not in the script, don't say those words. Microsoft came to the guy that put it on said you need to get off my set. I'm saying those words and chase the guy that's putting the commercial together off the set.

Lucas Underwood 32:32
So I had the heart attack. And then it's like, okay, what are we gonna do? We're gonna get back for a while. So Wagner was sending me the brake pads. We said, Okay, well, we can only take in brake jobs, you know, quick, easy deals. And you had set the lathe. And my wife would take the leg, she would take the tires off, she'd take the wheels off, and set them down, and I do the breakdown. And because you came live, and for several months, we got by basically on brake jobs. And the blessing was we didn't have to pay for parts. Yeah, because they were sending me the bars. Yeah. And then it was like, You get so many, well, then the guy that was in charge of it, knew what was going on, and he goes all you can help you need. And that's how we got back. That's how we survived. And so it was a blessing. And then at the end of that, they said, Hey, we want you to do, you know, we want to fly you out and see if you can do a commercial with our celebrity. And I was like, well, Who's your celebrity? And they were like, well, we can't tell you. And it's like Monica Lewinsky and it's like, okay, sorry.

Jeff Buckley 33:47
They're there Sandra was

Lucas Underwood 33:54
there are several guys in the industry that are millionaires. That I do not agree with the way that they do business the way that they operate. And these companies want to use these people. And they want them to promote their products and there are several of them. That it's like I don't I'm nobody

Jeff Buckley 34:16
not gonna associate so I'm not gonna put my values are

Lucas Underwood 34:19
and they were like solid so they said, Yeah, it's really

David Roman 34:22
cool. But can you I cannot think of a an advertising an advertisement with a shop owner in it. That Hey, my shop or my shops use XYZ brake pads. You pick a one?

Jeff Buckley 34:39
There's a couple and magazines and stuff like that. Yeah.

Lucas Underwood 34:41
But yeah, that was a it was kind of a new deal. Yeah, that they were doing this and they wanted to use a shop owner to give it credibility for because their celebrity doesn't do brake jobs. Yeah. But they sit and I thought, okay, whether using one of these You know, and it's like, and they said, No, really, okay, so we're gonna find out, you know, Monday and blah, blah, blah. And, and I said, Well, you have to tell me who it is. And they said, we can't. And so, you know, we'll fly you out there and see how you interact with them and blah, blah, blah. And I was like, Okay, let me put it this way. If you don't want to tell me, then you can fly me out there. If it's one of four people, you can put me back on a plane, and you're gonna fly me back home.

David Roman 35:36
You're very for specific, you should call him out. Now.

Lucas Underwood 35:42
Because they're millionaires, people like him. I just didn't agree. And, you know, with how they do business. And so they said, Yeah, and there was panel at 10. And they were like, Yeah, I, you know, and I was like, and on the camera, I said, and they've learned, and they learn, and they said, here share, yes. And I said, yeah, what's this, this commercial? I said, I don't care. I'm not a millionaire. But you know, why don't you know, but that's how and so then they told me and I was like, oh, yeah, that'd be kind of cool. And then when you got there and find out, there was three guys, a young guy, a middle aged guy, an old guy, I will tell you, which I was

John Firm 36:30
a young guy from

Lucas Underwood 36:32
the middle aged guy. And then they brought him in, and you know, okay, he's talked to him. And the young guy was like, and I was like, Hey, why don't say something. I can't get it. Yeah. So then I spoke up and talk to him. And I joke with them. And it's a funny Dale microcin. Nice guy, but he's like, real quick. So he, he catches everybody, you know, and everybody's like, Oh, if I can just say something, you know, he'll say something. You say something. He says, I'm Craig GAAP. And it looks like everybody's like, it's a contest to see who can say somebody prank him up. And it was like, and so I said a couple of things. And his his parents the week before they were in New York, because he does stuff for CNN. And I was like, Hey, Mike, you know, you were in, in New York last week with your parents? Yeah. I said, Oh, my gosh, the President came to town. The Pope was in town. And the UN was in council. And I said, Did you get to talk to the Pope? You know, and he goes, Oh, no, no, we got a town because the Pope was every president was there, but the union was in council. And he says, so they had to off the street shut down, and, you know, protect them president and the Pope. And I was like, Oh, my gosh, this is like a once in a lifetime opportunity to you know, probably don't come over here very much. And you know, to say you, and I said, Oh, wait, I forgot your micro, you just call them up and say, Hey, this is my role. Can I speak to the Pope? And so, and then they they call me that night and said, Okay, we're gonna pick you up at 930 are 630 in the morning, take you out to the deal. And I was like, Oh my gosh, I was like, and I was like, ah, and the other guys, they went out, you know, stayed out late. So about 930 They called and go, Hey, we messed up. We're gonna use the other guy. Okay, so here's the point. I'm like, Dad come I got fired before I ever got hired. Oh my gosh. And I was like, I was feeling down. And my daughter was like, Dad, you're on California. We were on route 66 comes in, right down in Santa Monica Pier. Yeah. Good look out and see the ocean as she goes through California. Just enjoy you know, and I was like, the next morning I got on this like, you know, right here by the pier. I'm gonna go over there McDonald's. Give me a sausage biscuit. Walk out on the pier. I could see people fishing out there I don't get to relax too much. Yeah, and I went out there and I came back got a shower and they picked me up at like 11 o'clock car picks us up takes us out there me and the other guy and I thought I guess you're just gonna feed us on what's going on? And this guy comes running over to the door opens the door says come on Jeff. Come on we gotta get you ready we got to get you sign all these papers and and get everything going and and get you makeup get you fed. We'll start filming after lunch and helps like hey, I don't know what that what what happened but I got hired again. Your

Jeff Buckley 39:56
emotional roller coaster.

Lucas Underwood 39:58
sign in the sky. A verse. And I'm like, where it says how much you get paid. There's no number in there. Hey, just out of curiosity, which I get paid. Oh, it's it's a Union deal. It's contract your union. Yeah, you know? And I'm like, Okay. Well, what's the union? DIA, ISIS sliding scales line scale. Okay, well, where does it start? Where sitting? Right? And it was like, and then went up. When they put me out there with Mike and hinda. He goes, Hey, you know what we're doing? We'll have a clue. I said, they just said, Hey, come out here and stand right there. And he goes, he pulls out this form. And he's showing me it's like a story like a comic book storyboard. And this one we're doing and, and he goes, I want you to have some more lines and start writing this stuff out. It's just like, and he goes, You didn't know what's gone on. So nods fingers and got thing I said, come out. It works out great. Write it down, go back to work tomorrow, or Wednesday or whatever. He was like, Oh, my gosh, it was so funny. Because you know it. He'd say, Sam, I'd say so many crack up laughing. He come out racist. I want you to say this. And I was like, you don't? Yeah, I love your accent. But you know, it's just deals like that as you go along and laugh. It's like, okay, you know, you just have to, you know, you don't want to say roll with the punches get beat down, I'll drop some habits. You just, you know, you decide, okay, I can either stay on the ground, right? Get back up and try something else. And, you know, when we first time we took a week off, it was like, Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, we're going to have customers when we come back when we had customers. You know, when I had a heart attack, it was like, Oh, my gosh, we're doing and you know, it worked out and took care of so when I just had my shoulder and you talk about six weeks. So the doctor said it was six weeks. So we normally take off a weekend, Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas. That's three weeks. So we just had to figure three more weeks. Can you get my three weeks? No pay?

Jeff Buckley 42:14
You know, when I was younger, right? When I was I started my shop when I was

John Firm 42:19
still younger, by the way. Yeah.

Jeff Buckley 42:21
Wow. I mean, compared to these two. I remember. I remember when things went wrong in my life, they felt like a big deal. Right? Didn't matter what it was. Everything seemed like a big deal at one point or another. You know what I mean? Yes. And I was probably 21 or 22 years old. And my dad was in with this pastor, okay. And they had bought this piece of property, much pieces of property. And this is about the time 2000 2008 had happened. Right? And I remember everything went down. And that pastor called my dad, and he said, Why in the Lord's laid it on my heart, you're going to take that property. And you're going to, you're going to take the debt for it, because if I take the day, it's going to damage the ministry. And, and it was something like $40,000 a month. And so the other business had slowed down. We had been building houses, we've been doing this other stuff, I was running the shop. And my dad said, Yes. And Lord have mercy. I thought I was gonna have a hard day. And I think back about your story. And I think about my dad's story, right.

Lucas Underwood 43:37
And that's where a lot of people have problems with Christianity or saying their church people or whatever, because it's in and, you know, we've dealt with that with, you know, no one divine the saints at a church or no, the politics. And it's like, sometimes you have to think those guys don't. And I don't want to be ugly, but this is like, you know, they there's a different reality than what we have waking up going to work every day, you're having to make a living having to make sure that we pay the bills, blah, blah, blah. And so sometimes that can affect you, and you can, or you can say, Okay, you're not supposed to judge. Yeah. And it's like, okay, that affected your dad, you affected your life. And it's like, okay,

Jeff Buckley 44:34
yeah. And it affected my perspective that David and I have talked about that, right, because it had a tremendous effect on my perspective of Christianity and religion as a whole. Right. And so,

Lucas Underwood 44:47
and that's not what we're talking about on here. But that's comes back to your perspectives on what makes you you know, what makes you happy, what is worth, you know, what do you make any money for, right? And it's it's like you can either let it affect you for the rest of your life. That's that's the thing, and it's hard to turn loose.

Jeff Buckley 45:08
That's the thing is because my bad while I'm over here flaming mad about it. My dad says, You know what? I'm not worried about it, it's not a big deal. And so me that upsets me worse, right? And he said, Listen, I'm telling you, I'm not gonna worry about it, it's just gonna be what's gonna be, we're gonna do whatever we got to do. If they want to take it a whole let them take it all. What are they gonna do? And you know, I say this sometimes I remember this old coach seen on TV One time I said, you've lost a bunch of football games. He worried about getting fired? And he said, I worried about it. It's what do you mean? He said, They cainy me just go get another job, right. And so I think about that, and I think about what you went through. And I'm thinking about my dad as you're telling this story. Because all of a sudden, he seems a whole lot more wise as I've gotten older. Because he's been through these things, too. You've been through these things. And instead of getting upset and reacting, when he's I think it's it's when we react and we have a what was it Rick always told me said don't have a permanent reaction to a temporary problem. Amen. Right. And so I pay attention to the choices you've made. I'm thinking about the choices my dad's made. That turned out to be a multimillion dollar win for him. Right now, it wasn't that there wasn't struggle. It wasn't there wasn't challenges. It was it was hard things didn't go the way they planned. They did take some money, dad. I don't think he cared. I don't I don't think he entered. I don't

David Roman 46:36
think he cared would you don't you don't get the setup that he has been able to grow and sustain. And not be smart.

Jeff Buckley 46:50
Oh, he's smart. He I used to think he was he saw

David Roman 46:53
the everything coming crashing down around everything. And when

Jeff Buckley 46:58
it'll pass, right? He did. This,

Jeff Buckley 47:02
I was 16. You have a handle this place? Yeah. You know, we

Jeff Buckley 47:07
never went with them. We never went with them. And I was 1617 years old, didn't think he knew a darn thing. And I tell the story. Sometimes I remember my daddy always wore bib, overalls, big old beard. And I remember going to a restaurant one time, and we walked into that restaurant. And none of the waitresses wanted to serve us had a bunch of construction workers with try. And they come over there. And she was upset about having to serve a bunch of hillbillies, you know, and anything, she couldn't get a tip, right. And so when he you know, when we got ready to leave, he pulls out a roll $100 bills that big around and starts counting up mine to pay for the bill. And every time we went in that restaurant, service, hey,

Lucas Underwood 47:44
let me help you. And that's the deal that you have to do is even if you're having a hard time, if you go, you know, you have to realize that those people make their living, you go to a restaurant, you still have to take care of them. And it's like, no matter what you're going to, if it's too bad that you can go and pay for food and take care of them and don't go you know, you get your sandwich. But you know, this last deal with it went to be in three months, we thought it was going to be six weeks, hey, we pay for that. Then in January 1, he didn't release me and it was like, Okay, well, we get by a little bit longer. And it's like, you know, you know the shop owners but you tell me how many you can count on one hand out there that can go three months with no income?

Jeff Buckley 48:32
None. I hardly eat a bunch of couldn't

John Firm 48:35
do three weeks. Yeah. Yeah.

Lucas Underwood 48:38
So it was like we were all three months, no income. And it was like, waiting it no GoFundMe or anybody.

John Firm 48:48
Maybe 20 bucks. Dad gave you some gopher. But I mean, that's

Lucas Underwood 48:53
not profitable. We had shot we had Dutch call. And I think Bo call Hey, anything Hey, can we come out? And John's over there? Hey, you know, what do you hate? What can we do? And, and hey, can I bring one of my guys down there? And it was like okay, well that would be more of a strain on us more pressure, more, more stress. We are restricted.

John Firm 49:15
No matter what are offered now I've got an uncontrolled well, just fine. And it's

Lucas Underwood 49:19
like okay, so then it was three months and we are releasing, it's like okay, are you gonna have any business? And I was like, Okay, well, people have been calling. Qantas. Tell them and we schedule them. Okay, well, we can start here with Sanjay. The three months was kind of neat, because you do all change. And in about three months that people are ready for the next oil change. And so they were calling and we had two or three weeks booked down, already weighed nowness. And they were calling in and the timeframe was like perfect because the ones that we've done all changes for before we left. We're ready for the vehicles to come I'm back in. And now when you have a brake job that was like, Oh my gosh, my brakes, you're doing all the work yourself. Oh, yeah. And so you have, oh my gosh, my breakups, you know, and it's like, Okay, we have good relationships with certain other shops. And it's like, okay, well, you need this right now we understand we can't do nothing for you called this shop. But we also believe in the certified auto repair. And so many guys miss this with certified or our Napa Karkare, whatever that has, offers their customers warranty nationwide warranties. Yeah. So it's like, okay, if there's a warranty issue, hey, we can do nothing. But guess what, there's a one 800 Number you call, yeah, they will get you to a shop that will take care of it. If you have a breakdown, okay. Hey, we understand breakdowns happen. We can help you right now. And, okay, well, I'll go over there this time. And then they write back to us. And it's just the loyalty that we built because of the customer service. Because we offer like a concierge service. We offer we were offering this before COVID hit.

Jeff Buckley 51:09
I think it's bigger than that. I think it's a you don't have a long time. Right. And I think that's got a lot to do with it. But you know, I've always been a huge Zig Ziglar fan, right? Yeah. And he was always positive. Right? One of the things he said was, he said, you know, you get where you're going in life by helping enough other people get where they're going. And he said, but one of the things that has to happen is you have to do it for the right reasons. You can't do this for for an ulterior motive. You can't do this to try and accomplish something else for yourself. If you're serving somebody, if you don't want to serve that, that other human being will recognize that you're trying to help them

Lucas Underwood 51:46
well. And so, like along that lines, they called and said, Hey, we want you to come to ATI, yeah, we're gonna take care of we're gonna pay your way. Yeah. No sponsor. Yeah. And I'm like, Okay, we just been off three months. Okay, we're back to work. Now. We're gonna take another week all, but it's like, a blessing that they sponsored us to come out here. But then I get here, yeah.

Lucas Underwood 52:22
And the way you guys talk about me to all these other ones, on going, Oh, my gosh, this, Jeff, oh, my gosh, he's rocks. Oh, my gosh, this is he does all this. He does all that. And that means to me. And it's like, I'm a part of

David Roman 52:43
it. We were saying something bad. I was getting nervous there for a second. I'm like, oh, no, we're just gonna be wrong.

Lucas Underwood 52:49
We're not here to promote Jeff Buckley and John firm. Yeah, we're around here to help our industry. We're out here to tell these guys about these new dances and networking. We're out here to make some connections to get some new tools and to show that these tools work.

Jeff Buckley 53:11
It's it's but it's bigger than that. It's bigger than

David Roman 53:15
that. He's got a beautiful you said it beautifully. Jeff, don't listen to him. He's your shops. Like, you don't need to be there. Right. Your show? No, I

John Firm 53:24
don't know. But yeah,

Jeff Buckley 53:27
but what I'm saying though, is that you're reaching a demographic, right. And you're bringing a positive message to a demographic you're doing the j&j show, you're doing the training, you're doing the things. We we reach a specific demographic, you guys reach a specific demographic calm reaches a specific demographic. And at the end of the day, just like the reason that we do, what we do is because I don't want people to feel like I felt at one point in my business, right? I don't want him to feel alone. And this, this story has been touching for me, I did not know this story. I didn't know it. And it's been touching for me, because, you know, there's been people posted in a sock. And just the other day, somebody posted and said, I'm gonna have throw in the towel, I'm gonna have to give up, or this didn't work, and I can't do this.

Lucas Underwood 54:15
And we say those and hear those all the time. And I've had talks for years, I wouldn't post the comments publicly, I would, you know, message them, or I'd call them and say, Hey, what's going on? Tell me what you're doing. And give them suggestions. You can't run someone's life. And you all you can do is make suggestions whether they do it or not, is up to them. We had a guy local that's like, oh my gosh, shame. I'm closing my shop. January 31. I said, February 1, he goes, Wow. I don't know. And I'm like, Okay, well, why are you closing? Well, I don't I don't understand this. I don't understand. You know, he didn't know if he was making money or not. He just know he can't pay the bills. Yeah. And it's like, okay, you know. And he was in a meeting and somebody asked him, Hey, what's your KPI? What's your, and start asking them all these initials, it

John Firm 55:10
was Kim and Brian, they came to the meeting that and he, they opened up his eyes.

Lucas Underwood 55:16
But I think it was the medium before that with someone else that you know what I'm talking about? And was asked, and the guy was like no, no, no, like a deer in the headlights, because you can either ask somebody a question showing that you care. Or you can ask somebody a question to embarrass them. And this guy didn't know. Then you know what all these letters man

John Firm 55:46
who's a mechanic, he's still a mechanic, I turned on the wrenches. And that's about number.

Lucas Underwood 55:50
That's the deal that we've tried to promote us. Okay, guys, you you're having problems. There's solutions. There's free training out there. Yeah, there's, yeah, ami Ami. And it's like, so many have forgot that Ami. The management training can help your service advisor, they can help the girl that answers the phone, or the person that issues phone, they can help it or you can go and listen to the guys that say yes. And it's like, okay, but in reality, that doesn't always work for everybody. And it depends on your demographic, but what you can what you can handle,

Jeff Buckley 56:28
Oh, I'm getting ready to kick a hornet's nest. I'm sorry. I want to

David Roman 56:32
let you you know what I mean? It's like, brought up religion, we can get into that. That's more fun. Oh, no,

John Firm 56:36
I want to hear this hornet's nest.

Lucas Underwood 56:40
Jeff, we're not alone. It's we're trying to.

Jeff Buckley 56:43
But why did they? Do you think it's possible that the reason they tell them right? And so we we tell some of our listeners to say yes, get the client in. Right. But you don't always say yes. Right. We qualify our clients, you know, how opera discovery conversation, right? You know exactly how offering. But But do you think that some of those folks who teach those methods, teach that method to get the shop overwhelmed, to where they need services that help them to get right because it's, it's almost like a continual, I have to come back for more, I have to come back to get more because and and there's plenty of people successful. There's plenty of people successful doing that. But is it? Is it building a need for that coaches services? By getting them overwhelmed?

Lucas Underwood 57:39
What have you helped if they're overwhelmed when they have you done for our industry, if you're disappointing, customers, if your ad into you know, mechanics, haven't always had the best reputation. And that's part of what we're trying to do by

David Roman 57:59
two flips about the industry. They're just trying to make that, that cash that's all there. They're worried about? Doing well. And that's it, right? I don't think they care. The end consumer, the biggest disservice you end up doing towards customer is being disingenuous. bringing them in and money bringing them in to chase the money, but you bring them in under false pretenses. You bring them in under one that we heard. This kind of annoyed us it but it was something that was prevalent and taught by very prominent people, is that you're always an expert at whatever car they call about. And you guys say guys do

Lucas Underwood 58:47
this until here. Yeah, we're content to

John Firm 58:51
know your market. You got to know your customer. And if you don't know those, and you're just saying yes.

David Roman 58:57
Well, it's not even just Yes, come on in. It's telling the customer you know, hey, Land Rovers. Oh, yeah, my I have. I have fantastic Land Rover technicians. They're experts. They're, they're taught to say that to the customer who's asking genuine quick, that's a good question for a consumer to ask. Yeah. Do you work on this model? Have you worked to have the tool and those are good questions. They're lying to the customer. And they frame it as well. You want to talk your guys up? Well, okay. Yes. I want to I if they're incompetent, I Why am I employing them? I get that. But there's a certain level of there's a certain level where you just you don't go past that and say, Well, yeah, I'm an expert at Fiats it called. They don't think they're being not the opposite.

Lucas Underwood 59:58
But say again, that comes back to to what is your values? What is your morals? What will you stand up for? And so, you know, Mike Clary, does your training, he does diesels he has sharp, and he'll tell you, yeah, I might have a hybrid. And then I might have a bucket truck sitting right there. Yeah, he came in my shop, and we had a BMW and Mercedes summed up on the left, and he goes, he worked on us. And he goes, I won't even touch a European car. And remember, the smart guy, and you know, they can they can fix anything. And he says, I don't even touch that. And I'm like, Okay, we tell our customers, I do by surveying his home. Yeah, if he gets me on that, gotta go the dealer, you know, and they say, Bring money with you. And

David Roman 1:00:47
don't send them to the dealer. And it's like certified auto repair this gotta be certified auto repair.

Jeff Buckley 1:00:53
You remember, we're heading out

John Firm 1:00:56
to where it needs to go. Yeah. And I don't want it out of my sight.

Lucas Underwood 1:01:02
And where you start? I don't we, we actually would usually do that if there was a vehicle came in, and it had, we were doing other stuff, and it had a warranty. You know, Kansas would call and say, Hey, what's the warranty on this? And if they said, hey, it's covered. We could take it over there. Yeah, your

David Roman 1:01:19
factory warranty? Work.

Lucas Underwood 1:01:24
And if it was something that we didn't do, like, I don't do engine work anymore. And it's like, okay, well, we would take it to, you know, because we have chumps that we trust, we do that take a turn. Most of the

David Roman 1:01:36
times you when you say engine work, you're not swapping engines.

Lucas Underwood 1:01:39
I don't do in tomorrow, I will pull ahead. I won't pull up. Yeah. Okay. You know, I used to redo everything I have put in mania motors. And back when that's why my shoulders bad back when we didn't think we needed that lesson, we would just shove that transmission up there and stab it, and you know it, and now I'm older. And so we've slowed down. There's things that we know what, what makes us money. And then we know what, you know, if I'm trying to slow down what we can do. And so it's like, you know, you talk about that vehicle, and we were in the OE X right here. And the Toyota and the Honda guy said, we both use the same system. Yeah, then so then he goes, they don't work the same. You can't say, take in a Honda and you did a Honda you did five Honda's and then a guy calls with a Corolla and you say, oh, yeah, I'm an expert at that. And the Toyota guy goes, no, they're different. Yeah. So don't say that. You can do that. That shows that that guy had some integrity. Are we saying these other guys don't have integrity? It's not for us to say, but it's

David Roman 1:02:56
how we say it all the time. It's it's it's disingenuous.

Lucas Underwood 1:03:00
It. Symes we're trying to say we're professionals. We never stopped buying tools. We never stop learning. You know what this patch right here? I'm 65. And I just got this other one. Yeah, it's who who would work towards a master when you're 65. There's one we have to renew every five years. And it's like, we and the reason I did that, to begin with was to show my children. They're like, Oh, I can't wait to get a school. I can't wait to graduate. I can't wait to get our college mirror done. You need to get the mentality that you never stop learning, man. And it's like, okay, matter and life. In your relationships. Yeah, absolutely. Right. You know, as Cycra it's like, Okay, we got shops on every corner. You got churches on every corner?

Jeff Buckley 1:03:57
Yeah. So let me ask you this, then. In closing, I think it's a great way to close it up here because you brought it up, what what's the future for my father's shop?

Lucas Underwood 1:04:09
For my father's shop is we're kind of, you know, at the, at the range there. And, you know, when you say what's your retirement stuff, our property in the building is pretty much you know, our retirement and because it's worth, you know, we own in and we own the land, we own the building and everything in it. And it's like, I'd like to see a younger guy, you know, come in and and a younger guy can now take employees and younger guy can, you know, we were grandfathered in when they said he took us in and so we have kind of limits on expansion and stuff. But, you know, when we built it, we didn't put a restroom there. It needed to go to the house, you know, and it was $10,000 for restroom back then. And so now it's like okay, well But to have employees, if you have a Top Shop with top clients and top equipment, you can ask a top guide mechanic to come in and work for you and have a top restaurant, by the way, I don't have a restaurant. And so we were looking at, you know, adding one on, but a young guy can come in and have a business that, you know, can expand and easily start producing the rates of change that some of these big guys do, because we'll be able to draw the line. Yeah, but I would like to, what I'd like to do is get out doing more of what we're doing this week. And, you know, we're working with with different ones. And it's like, you know, we do a lot of stuff with the schools. And we had a school that just won in the tolls for schools, and they called us up and said, Hey, we're doing these events in September up in Salt Lake City, where they go on on the salt flats, and the kids make a car and race and we'd love you to come up and do some videos and promote that. And it's like, Okay, that's great. We have to have sponsors to do that. This week, we've been making some more connections, to work towards getting more sponsorships to be able to go out and share the shops, yeah, be able, there's a ton of shops that in our industry that do great things, for people that do great things in their community. And that's what more people need to know about, instead of the ones that are disappointing. Customers, you know, and you have a lot of shops out there that are struggling. And it's like, there's more small shops than there are large shops.

Jeff Buckley 1:06:41
So the so the Jeff Buckley vision is to share the story of the automotive technician, the automotive shop owner

Lucas Underwood 1:06:50
to keep improving our industry, whether it be through training, there's a ton of free training out there, guys are asking, Well, how do I get this trained enough, and you know, we were talking with NGK, which is now they change the name, shop squad offers a bunch of online free training, but then they'll come if you get a group, like you in your area or at Aisaka. You say, Oh my gosh, we want to they will come in and do training for free. And it's like why? Well, because they're trying to make sure that all these guys understand the issues that you can have with the product, then it creates less comebacks on them. You don't put a part on parts came to the party. That didn't work. Send it back. Yep. And they don't if if they're teaching you we were talking with one earlier that doorman, doorman and bluster. It says right there, doorman training, what Goldman training centers what it said on the shirt, and they're going to offer all this training, you know, we deal with gates,

John Firm 1:07:58
oh, gee, I guess you'll probably know about Wix filterless roles, but it is

Lucas Underwood 1:08:04
people don't know, Wix filters has a university. And you think, okay, you can get a master's in filtration. Next, and it's like, okay, well, what does that mean? How much is there till till a filter or filter, coolant filter, air filter? Well, they teach the system. Yeah. So all of a sudden, they're teaching anything that oil touches, which is the engine. So you think about oh, my gosh, I'm bringing in a young young guy, Hey, my lube tech, let me let him do this training. And he starts sparking interest starts going, oh my gosh, that's how that works. Oh, my gosh, yeah. And all of a sudden, you create a little fire in him where they're, I want to learn more, where they're not leaving the shop, you're not sending them and paying $700 to go to training. This is free training that they can do. Well, the schools are all the time looking for. Oh my gosh, what am I gonna teach you guys this week? Oh, my gosh, I need some content. And it's like, there's a ton of free training. Yeah, that's why, you know, we would like to do is go around and share some of that, you know, let educate. It's just like, what's going on here this way. You've been coming for a couple of years or years now. And

Jeff Buckley 1:09:20
it's nine. It's crazy, right? I bet. I bet when you walked in there, you learned something

Lucas Underwood 1:09:24
this morning, that would get you I learned something.

David Roman 1:09:27
Oh, no, we get blown away every single year. That's unbelievable.

John Firm 1:09:31
Yeah, the last deal on what was done in staffer in Detroit was called connected cars. Yeah. And then they brought that up to now. Well, I remember that. And then it's just six years ago. All the information just come.

Jeff Buckley 1:09:44
I mean, the information that's here is is not like anything that's available in any other event. And look, we're involved with all these associations, and they don't know this.

Lucas Underwood 1:09:58
So is there a need for What I want to do from what you're doing, of course, because they they sponsored you to come out here absolutely.

Jeff Buckley 1:10:05
And

David Roman 1:10:07
you got sponsorship

John Firm 1:10:09
didn't get no, don't worry about it.

Lucas Underwood 1:10:13
Yeah, it was funny because he David was telling me a story. He goes, You know, it's so funny he goes, Lucas gets the suite. And then I sent him a picture on my room and looks like

Jeff Buckley 1:10:26
he got mad at me one time he he barely talked to me for like a whole week. You know, I got mad at me. When I went in my room I went in my room and I was doing some I was like, Oh, that's cool. It's just a neat little package of cute tips. He's like they gave you you tips. Things like they put back with the hell you didn't get no cute you didn't

David Roman 1:10:45

John Firm 1:10:59
I know exactly how you feel. You always don't get nothing you always you always get everything who got me the shirts? You did? Yeah, who got me my pants I'm wearing today. Okay, but don't get nothing
