Network Rail has announced that major upgrades are being undertaken on the East Coast Main Line.

Across weekends in March, upgrades to signalling, switches and crossings, overhead wires will take place, as well as developments to improve Durham Station.

This work will mean disruption for some, however LNER will continue to run services from King’s Cross to Scotland.

The Transpennine Route Upgrade has outlined its plans for a new, fully accessible Mossley station. The proposals include a relocation 300 metres east of its current site, as well as an accessible footbridge, extended platforms, and full electrification.

Network Rail says the relocation works would be completed by the end of the decade. The existing Mossley station will also have its historic elements retained.
