What is Brave with Lisa?

This podcast is created to inspire, champion and equip you to bravely walk in that unique rhythm of grace and calling that God has designed just for you.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to Brave with Lisa. This space is designed to inspire, champion, and equip you to bravely walk in that unique rhythm of grace in calling that God has designed just for you. I'm so excited you're joining us today.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to Brave with Lisa. I am your host, Lisa Bruson. And today, we are going to be chatting or well, I'll be chatting. You'll be listening. But I know you'll be chatting with God around doing new things, pioneering.

Speaker 2:

You know, there's so many prophetic words about new doors, doors of opportunity, new doors opening, new thing. You know? A lot of talk about that, particularly as we go into the Jewish new year, which I think is called the year of the open door. So I just thought we'd just chat about pioneering all that new thing or carrying the dream, walking out the dream. However you wanna call it, can have so many different types of names and words around it.

Speaker 2:

But I believe that there's so many of us that God is giving fresh ideas, igniting old dreams as well, like dreams that we've laid down and thought were buried or or or had died or not even for us to carry, but God is actually reigniting them and putting them back into many people's hands. And then there's just God is inviting many people to start new things or or to step into new things and step out of old things. You know? So I just thought, let's have a look at that. Let's look at some practical ways to do this.

Speaker 2:

What are, what are some things that we can do just to walk it out? And so first of all, is actually to capture. You know, catch that idea or catch that God is actually stirring that up that old dream again or giving you a new dream and you can tell that God is on it because it just keeps coming to mind. You know, it might you might find that these old desires that used to have are starting to to stir again. Yeah, you can just tell when God's stirring and inviting you to pick it back up again and to carry it, to hold it.

Speaker 2:

And what I tend to do when God gives me new ideas or I know he's asking me to do something new, I'll just treasure it in my heart for a while. I don't share I might share it with Matt, but that's my husband. But only after a little while of just kind of chewing it over and letting it kind of marinate in my heart with God. And so I spend the first little while when it drops in my spirit just chatting to God about it. I'll ask him questions.

Speaker 2:

I'll write ideas down. And I actually try to dream in a way that I'm not restricted. And what I mean is I don't try to put practical boundaries around my dreaming and chatting with God. I'm more like, okay. What are you saying here?

Speaker 2:

And what's the big picture? And is there a big picture? And, you know, just just letting it tumble around in my heart with God. And then there's just almost a time when I feel like I have got it. It's sitting in my heart and I know it's a God.

Speaker 2:

That's when I'll share it with my mentor and with Maddie and maybe one other person, but usually, it's just 1 or 2 people. And I'm really particular about who I share these ideas and dreams with because they need to be safe people. They need to be able to hear my heart, hear what I think God's saying, and just hold space for me. And so not necessarily trying to go, well, how would you do that? And and how can we, you know, but more like, okay, tell me more.

Speaker 2:

That sounds amazing. Let's let me pray with you. You know, it's really important that it's not shut down in the early stages. So that's why it's so important to hold it close for a while, really hear what God is saying, and then share it with 1 or 2 key people who can just keep you accountable, who can pray with you, and just champion you as well and hold space as you bounce these ideas. And also just allow, like, that that you have space and grace from these people to change direction and and, you know, just find your way in this.

Speaker 2:

So they're the first the they're the first couple of points that I would say about starting the new thing or pioneering is it's holding it quite precious and, being wise and discerning as to who you share it with and when. Now, another thing that I like to do when God gives me ideas or I I know I know that is asking me to start something new or or do this new thing. I'll just write down all the things that I love about it. What is making me excited? You know, just writing all that down.

Speaker 2:

What is making my heart just sing as I think about this? And I really it's really important to write down those things and not the shoulds. Not that, well, this is how this person's done it or, I should do this in ministry. I should do that. Just really write down the things that just make you, what a dance.

Speaker 2:

Oh, just excite you. You know, my husband, his his excited face is very neutral, whereas mine is like, my whole body is excited. I jump around. So it doesn't have to be like the way I'm expressing it in excitement. It can just can just something that makes your heart skip a beat.

Speaker 2:

So, yeah, just writing that down. And what you'll find as you write down the things that are exciting you about this particular new thing or this idea and dream, you might even start to get a bit of an idea as to what god is actually saying and doing. You know, sometimes when god invites me to do new things, I look at it through old lenses. I look at it through how others have gone before. So, for example, when he wanted me to start up mentoring packages, I was like, oh, no way.

Speaker 2:

That is, like, dry. And and I was looking at it through old lenses. I was looking at it through how other people have done this, and I just found it just didn't excite me. And I didn't want to plan out all these, step by step packages of mentoring. And so I just said, okay.

Speaker 2:

Well, Lord, if I was to do it and to do it, that would excite me. I would want it to flow with you. I don't actually want a set program. I wanna just hear what you're saying for that person, and and that's how we move. And if we run, group mentoring, then I don't want to have a program that I send out ahead of time.

Speaker 2:

I might have the dates, but I don't I don't wanna know what you're wanting to do. I just you just tell me beforehand, and then we run with it. And he said to me, that's exactly how I want you to do it, Lisa. So it's just interesting, isn't it? And even now, like, again, he asked me a little while ago to pick up, the mentoring again, and I was like, you know what, Lord?

Speaker 2:

I don't particularly like sitting at a computer, and I get really tired, you know, in mentoring people that way, you know, via Zoom. And I I'm not very good at sitting still. And he's like, yeah? And I was like, so if I was to do it again, I'd wanna be able to walk and move so that I can pay attention more. And I was like, actually, I would love it to be like a walkie talkie, mentor.

Speaker 2:

And then so that started this whole new I've got a men a walkie talkie mentoring package that I now offer. And so and got and that has been incredible. It's just a 2 week walkie talkie mentoring package that I offer. And it has been so powerful, for for so many ladies and I love it. And again, it's not looking through the old lenses.

Speaker 2:

It's actually going, what excites me? How am I wired? What are you asking God? Well, if I was to do it in a way that excites me, this is how I do it. And so just kind of allowing the, the to and fro with God and not assuming anything, not assuming that it'll be like how things have been done before.

Speaker 2:

And, so I've found that to be such a key in that we keep it God's way then and not the world's way. Even things like Instagram, for example. You know, when I first started using Instagram for Rise and Brave with Lisa, All all the Instagram like, if you were to go to a course, it would say you need to post, you know, so many times a week and, you know, make sure you do stories, la la la. And and I just felt god say, I will tell you when to post, and you don't need to worry. And so I got into the habit of just going, Lord, do you want some do you wanna post something today?

Speaker 2:

And he'll be like, no. I'm like, okay. Great. Or he might say yes. And I'm like, okay.

Speaker 2:

What is it, Lord? And And he'll just tell me and then that's the post I do. So it's even, finding your unique rhythm with God in the things that the world may already be doing, but he will have a unique strategy and way for you. So and that, for me, has been a lot lighter way to be in the Instagram world, in the social media world. It just means I rely on God's marketing strategy than trying to work out my own.

Speaker 2:

So I find that has been so key. Now something that I have found when, you know, chatting with people who have this idea, and it's so exciting, but I find lots of people get stuck and almost can't move because they're wanting to know all the details and how to work it out and how to get from where they are now to what they feel God's showing them. And they're wanting to know all the steps and and, like, plan it all out. And I always say to them, that's not how God moves. You you don't I mean, it's good to have some ideas of where you're wanting to head, but that journey to where God's leading you is probably not gonna be the way you've thought it out.

Speaker 2:

And so that can just when we try to when we wanna know all the details, that can really stump us for a while. So rather than needing to know all the details, just say, okay, Lord. What is the next step? What do I need to focus on right now? Rather than being overwhelmed with all the things?

Speaker 2:

And sometimes when you start new things, there's a lot to consider. Rather than being completely overwhelmed, by everything that needs to be done. Just simply going, well, what do I need to focus on right now? What's the next step? What's the next thing?

Speaker 2:

And just follow that. Sometimes it won't necessarily make sense. You'll be like, why am I focused on that? But he's he will say, do this. For example, for a good for a good 6 to 12 months, God was saying YouTube YouTube, Lisa.

Speaker 2:

I want you to do YouTube. And I was just like, oh, no. Thank you. And then he said, and I want you to set up a website for Lisa Bruson. And again, I was like, oh, that sounds horrible.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely not. And and then he said to me, until you do the website and this YouTube channel, you will not move forward in the things that I have for you. And so I was like, okay, Lord. And so I did a YouTube channel. I learned how to do it.

Speaker 2:

I asked people and they helped me. God always leads us to people as well who will help us or show us. He will equip us, whether it's with people or just giving us this understanding, supernatural understanding. For me, I needed people to help me with YouTube and the website. And do you know what?

Speaker 2:

It's so funny. I reckon it would have only been a week after releasing the YouTube, that I then started to get more invitations to speaking and, doing the things the new things that God had for me. So it's even those when God gives us the next step. It sometimes it doesn't make sense and it makes us uncomfortable, but we can trust him in that and that they are key and important. So I just really encourage you to take some time today and just say, Lord, what is the next step?

Speaker 2:

What is what do you want me to focus on right now? And, yeah, you'll find it's, it will surprise you and delight you, as he leads you in those steps. The other thing I really wanna encourage you in is, so often we feel, ill equipped or even question that we're anointed for this particular thing or that we're gifted. And something that I have found is that those giftings and anointings aren't completely activated until you step into it and then you're like, oh, that has given me so much to be able to do this. And I just wanna encourage you that even if you feel like you don't have it, don't have all that is required, God will provide, and he will ignite those giftings and anointings on your life as well as you boldly take those steps.

Speaker 2:

Now just a few more pointers. I hope I hope this is helping so far. A few more pointers. One is as you say yes to that thing and you begin or about to begin, I would say almost 90% of the time, fear and intimidation will really rise up. And so it's actually just it's the enemy's strategy.

Speaker 2:

It's, nothing new, but it can really hold us back if we allow it and if we keep our eyes on the fear intimidation rather than our eyes on Jesus. So fear can be like fear of failing, fear of success, fear of fear of others' opinions, fear of how it will impact you or your family, like, all all of those type of things. I guess the biggest one is really fear of man. Right? Like what people will think.

Speaker 2:

And then there can be intimidation. So you can be intimidated by other people who are in the arena or the industry that you're wanting to step into. It could be intimidation by your own thoughts. So, like, who do I think I am to do this? You know?

Speaker 2:

Or it can be intimidation by others as well, which is through judgments or just questioning you, questioning your authority, however it may be. But fear intimidation is a very real thing, and it is only conquered by continuing to take those steps even though you're feeling all of it, and keeping your eyes on Jesus and just saying to him, what do you say? And it may be to the point of, like, you asked God that 10 times in one day. And he's such a good father. He will continue to speak encouragement and truth to you until it really does settle in deep.

Speaker 2:

And, so, yeah, if that is you, if you are at the moment feeling quite intimidated and thinking, who who am I to do this? I I don't I'm just me and all these other people are amazing. And what what could I possibly offer? And, you know, God just has given you so many amazing experiences and tools and, and anointing and gifting, like, what he's wanting to do through you is gonna be so unique and important. And I just wanna encourage you to fix your eyes on Jesus and not on the intimidation and fears.

Speaker 2:

And sometimes it's as simple as, it's as simple as going, it's not about me. What God's asking me to do will actually impact people. And if it impacts 1, isn't it worth it? And so that's where I've had to keep landing is, well, if it's gonna impact one person and that person is who God wants to impact, then it's worth it. It's worth being uncomfortable.

Speaker 2:

It's worth shaking in my boots. And God will bless you in your faithfulness in that. In the last, there's so many tips you can say. Right? Like, even you're gonna make mistakes.

Speaker 2:

I have made so many mistakes. I could I could sit down and we could take a very long time in hearing all my mistakes. But what I've learned is not to be so hard on myself, to give myself grace, to have a sense of humor, kind of laugh at myself, and just and just know that God covers me. You know? He he gets it.

Speaker 2:

He knows I don't make mistakes and, but when I do things with love, it works out anyway. But I have found my mistakes have been my most biggest teachers as as we know. But I'm just reminding you, you will make mistakes, especially as you step into new things. You are not gonna be an expert in it. That takes time.

Speaker 2:

And so but you have to start. You know? In order to be an expert, we have to start. Right? And so, I mean, I've been doing retreats for almost 8 years now.

Speaker 2:

And my first one, oh, there's so many mistakes. Like, so many big no no's that you do on a retreat. But I did them. I did them so many of them, and yet God's grace covered me. He showed up, and the people he drew to that retreat were just so so gracious, and they met with Jesus.

Speaker 2:

But, yeah, it's it is knowing that it's not gonna be perfect or perhaps even very good when you first start. But that's where grace comes in. Really, I have learned to give myself a lot of grace. And even with these podcasts, I don't like to edit things only because I like them to be raw. I think there's too many things that are produced and polished and actually quite like things raw and unpolished.

Speaker 2:

So that's why you get these podcasts as they are. But the very last and very most important thing I have found when pioneering starting new things is, what I have found is and for for a good couple of years, I spent so much time with God, pioneering and and working alongside, co laboring with him, but I felt really dry after a few years. I'm like, why do I feel dry when I spend so much time with you, god? And he just said, sweetheart, you are working with me, but you're not enjoying me. You're not taking time just to enjoy me as a father.

Speaker 2:

Enjoy me as I am and allowing me to enjoy you. And so I've become become really intentional to have that beautiful time in God's presence, whether I go for a walk on the beach with him, whether I sit down on my balcony and just have my Bible and pen and paper before me, however that looks. But it's not coming to him with a list. It is simply enjoying him and kinda saying, well, what's on your heart today? And what do you wanna share?

Speaker 2:

Or or just being still and quiet with him, which is really quite beautiful as well. But that is that is really key. Having that intentional time with God, and that sometimes can be the first thing that we think we can let go of, but, actually, it's the most important. I was chatting to my friend just this morning, Ed Rush, and he's such a busy man and, you know, speaking, writing books and and whatnot. And, he just said he's the busiest he's ever been.

Speaker 2:

And so that means he takes 1 to 2 days out of his week just to be still with God, and to spend time with God rather than just spinning the wheels. And that has been so effective and important. And so, yeah. Anyway, I just wanted to share some of those tips and I hope there's one there that you can grab ahold of and go, that was for me today. And if it is, please let me know.

Speaker 2:

I would love to hear your story. But I wanna pray for you now. So, Lord, I just thank you for those open doors. That is a year of open doors. I thank you, Jesus, that there are new ideas that you're dropping, new ministries and businesses and, and new things for people to walk into.

Speaker 2:

And so, lord, I just pray that you help them to catch it, to know it's from you, Lord, that you help them to treasure it in their hearts and bring it before you, that you help develop and fine tune it. Lord, I ask for courage and boldness over those who are about to start something new. Lord, that you breathe a fresh breath of boldness over them and that they're just so, that they're so encouraged and that they hear your voice even clearer in these days of of new beginnings. And so, Lord, we just handle those beautiful people to you, and I just thank you. It is it is a time of, fresh and new beginnings and new things.

Speaker 2:

And, lord, we're so excited for what you are doing and what you're about to do. Amen. Well, like I said, let me know, if this has been helpful for you, where you're at, what new thing you might be starting. I would love to champion you to cheer you on. And thank you so much for listening, and I will see you next time.
