What is ...But God?

A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam

“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. So resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brothers and sisters who are in the world.”
1 Peter 5:8-9 NASB2020
The devil has always been trying to get as many people to fall as he can. He’s been doing it since Adam and Eve. His evil has always permeated the world since his fall. So why does it seem as though there is more evil than in the past? It seems as though as there are more wars and more rumors of wars. It seems as though sin is more rampant and society is more sinful, more vindictive and more lost than they have ever been.
I’m not sure it is. Sin is sin and humans have been sinful since the fall of man. One of the first two children that Adam and Eve had, killed the other out of Jealousy. I could give a litany of sinful behavior perpetrated by heroes of the Bible that would embarrass us all. Jesus was betrayed by one of his own. Peter not only denied that he knew Jesus, he vehemently denied him. If he would have had social media he would have ghosted him and posted negative things about Jesus.
We are not more wicked or more sinful than previous generations. Sin is sin, It’s just more accessible and acceptable today. Jesus explains “And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains.”
Matthew 24:6-8 NASB2020
This is why we must always be on guard, we must always be ready. Paul in his letter to Timothy, explains “I solemnly exhort you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and exhort, with great patience and instruction.”
2 Timothy 4:1-2 NASB2020
This is what God has called us to do, as explained in Matthew, Mark and Acts.

“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. The one who has believed and has been baptized will be saved; but the one who has not believed will be condemned. they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.””
Mark 16:15-16, 18

“But He said to them, “It is not for you to know periods of time or appointed times which the Father has set by His own authority; but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth.”
Acts 1:7-8
NASB2020

Lord we thank and praise you. We thank you for your death, resurrection and ascension. Thank you that we have forgiveness of sin and eternal life with you. Help us to repel the devil through the power of the Holy Spirit and your armor. Help us also to spread the good news to all. Fulfilling what you asked us to do. We pray all these things in Jesus Name Amen!
