It is 20 hours past midnight on this very first day of the 11th month this calendar year, and with it being Monday it’s time to let all the new stuff shine for our New Muses Monday evening first hour, still with the cellophane wrapped in history as November 1, 2021. This is Danno of course, making things happen tonight to begin a new week of broadcasting, rockin’ it from studio 2, GFN HQ in downtown Gwangju, how do you do? Second hour Aline Verduyn is once again on the air with us for our Popcast feature, and we have a good deal of shiny new stuff to go through then before we hit 10 bells and have to return the slippers. Here in our first hour, the new muses are indeed ready for their closeups, and we do indeed have a few Halloween echoes from the likes of CHVRCHES, Slow Pulp, Imagine Dragons, and Christian Leave amongst other very worthy tunes. However, before we get to any of that, we must wish a very happy Day of The Dead to all of our Mexican friends whether here there or anywhere, and we’ll talk all about what that is if you’re not familiar on the other side of Natalia Lafourcade doing her thing. THIS is The Drop.
Natalia Lafourcade feat Los Macarinos – Hasta La Raiz
The Drop commences things for the month of November on this New Muses Monday, and another beautiful fall day as we are really hitting peak colors on the foliage here in Gwangju. We are of course ready to go with all the new tunes tonight with Aline joining us in our 2nd hour, and we hope you had a fun but safe Halloween weekend.
For tonight though, we duly note that it is Day of the Dead in Mexico today, so we rocked Natalia Lafourcade & Los Macarinos right there with a tune called Hasta La Raiz, which means To The Root, which is kind of what this day is all about. The multi-day holiday is festive in nature, with people wearing skull masks and paying homage to their ancestors who have passed. Oftentimes this means getting together for big meals and telling funny stories and singing songs about the departed.
Like Halloween, a very festive but somewhat spooky day, which typically starts on Halloween & goes until tomorrow, Nov 2.
Buen dia de los Muertos, mis amigos. Salut! Happy Day of the Dead.

So, since we have danced all the skeletons out conceptually for tonight, let’s get to a few tunes just out over the weekend. We start with a scary one-off single from CHVRCHES and then we have Spoon and Christian Leave with a couple darker themes as well to round out the block. We’ll talk more about them after the cruel cuts, but for now THIS is The Drop on your new Muses Monday night with the dancing skeletons.
__________
Back on The Drop after our first triangle of new tunes as we have popped the cork on this week’s New Muses Monday. Danno here as I am always on GFN between 8 & 10, and it is Monday so that always means new music galore in store for both hours of programming, and the lovely & talented Aline Verduyn will return to studio 2 this evening for our Popcast feature. For now through, we go to the recap, that was...
CHVRCHES - Killer (…the band just released a Directors’ Cut of their Screen Violence LP, which dropped back in August. Killer which we just heard along with two other new tunes are featured on the expanded album, which is available everywhere as of last week, right in time for the spooky part of the year.)
Spoon – The Hardest Cut (…another very appropriate type of tune for this past weekend and into the Day of the Dead celebrations is this joint, which heralded the band’s 10th studio album called Lucifer On The Sofa. The latest LP from one of the most consistent indie rock bands out there is due to drop February 11.)
Christian Leave – Days Like Lost Dogs (…this is the title track to the young indie riser out of Oklahoma’s new EP. Still only 20 years old, he gained notoriety for the huge following on his tube channel starting in 2014, which now has over 230k subscribers.)
Now skittering to the end of the first quarter for tonight we’ll hopefully be able to get a couple more tunes in. First up is a new on from BENEE (note sp) called Doesn’t Matter, which is the latest standalone single from the NZ-based breakout artist, and the sky is the limit with young Stella Bennett, now up to 7m monthly listeners. After that we have a new tune called Madonna from Snail Mail which is the final single to the Valentine LP which drops this Friday so keep an eye out. THIS is The Drop on your New Muses Monday.
BENEE – Doesn’t Matter
Snail Mail – Madonna

II
Back on The Drop still cooking with a decent bit of gas, but notably less than in the first quarter of tonight’s show. What’s the haps Drop Gangsters (KOR)? Danno here going through the new tunes just out this weekend, and we’ll be joined by Aline Verduyn for our popcast feature in hour 2 as well. Let’s summarize and surmise those first two cuts of the 2nd fourth we just let into the atmosphere...
Strawberry Guy – I’ll Be There (…this is part of an album that’s really turning heads in the indie world over the weekend. Sun Outside My Window just dropped Friday October 29 in full, and he is a young man out of Liverpool. Pretty nice stuff do check in full if you liked what you heard there. Sun Outside My Window by Strawberry Guy.)
Slow Pulp – Shadow (…a little switch-up here stylistically as this one has a lot more edge than the previous tune. Slow Pulp, from Wisconsin now Chicago-based dropped a very solid debut LP last year called Moveys, and this is the latest in a series of standalone singles the band has dropped this year, another appropriately Halloween-esque reverberation.)
Okay so before moving on just a real quick reminder to follow us on social media we are @gfnthedrop, which is also a great way to keep in contact with me & the staff here at Drop Central free & easy & world-wide. Via SMS just contact us if you’re local meaning here in the Republic of Korea, which can be done via #9870 (it’s 50 won for a regular message, 100 won for a longer one). Weeknight broadcasts are available for free download & subscription via our podcast as well once we go off the air, just search The Drop with Danno or The Drop on GFN and you should be able to find us on any service you use or via simple internet search.
So, get a bit more rnb in our lives for the next block tonight, shall we? On deck we have MICHELLE with a very nice new cut to be followed by Alicia Keys and Imagine Dragons, all of which we’ll explain ourselves on after they’ve disturbed the air. THIS is The Drop on your New Muses Monday night.
___________
Back on The Drop tonight and into the final airbreak of the first 57 this evening, how’s it going, Drop Gangsters (KOR)? Danno here ready to welcome Aline Verduyn for momentarily for our weekly Popcast sesh, and we have tons of new stuff to talk about after 9 tonight with our favorite Belgian madame. However, before all that fun bidness, let’s go through the last triad of new tunes we just floated around…
MICHELLE – MESS U MADE* (…this is a lovely bit of rnb from the New York-based sextet, and if this is any indication of the rest of the LP, we are in for a treat. The band will drop AFTER DINNER WE TALK DREAMS on January 28.)
Alicia Keys – Best of Me (Originals) (…one big album we have coming up in December is called Keys. The double LP will be sold in two editions, with Originals and then Unlocked, produced by Mike Will Made It. Keys drops in full on December 10.)
Imagine Dragons x JID – Enemy (…this tune is from Riot, which has released a new song and music video in collaboration with Imagine Dragons and JID ahead of the debut of Arcane, the upcoming League of Legends series that’s set to premiere on Netflix on Nov. 6 at 9pm CT. So, that’s this Saturday keep an eye out if you’re a big fan of the series.)

Now, we’re getting pretty close to halftime but we still got time to rock a couple more joints. First up we have NewDad who are out of Western Ireland with their latest standalone called Ladybird. After that it’s another band out of NYC that have really been impressing called Geese, this next tune Exploding House appears on their Projector LP which is their debut and just out on Friday and Television flashes are so prevalent but so innovative we can’t do anything but recommend you check the full LP immediately, this young band is on its way. Stay tuned more to come from Aline and the Popcast in just a moment, but for now THIS is The Drop on your New Muses Monday at the half.
NewDad – Ladybird*
Geese – Exploding House

"It feels so authentic, it has intention. Put on 'Who You Are' to try and talk to someone that needs help."

6. Seventeen - Rock with you

The song’s release comes less than one week before the Season 3 PFL finals.

8. Sean Paul, Sia - Dynamite

Sean Paul said in a statement, “’Dynamite’ started out as just a good vibe song. After recording ‘Cheap Thrills’ Sia and I knew we would record another single and ‘Dynamite’ is the second installment.”
