Hi everybody. I am Sandy and I am the fitness witch. Welcome to our very first episode where we are going to be discussing expanders. What they are, how you can use them to reach your goals, to change your patterns and habits and ultimately to expand your consciousness. What does expanding your consciousness even mean?
The Fitness Witch:
Expanding your consciousness is just a fancy way of saying changing your mind. Having shifts in perceptions or those moments when you see something in a different way and it allows you to have those shifts in perception. Those moments are like magic, and I used to chase them. I didn't know really what was happening, but the first time I experienced those was thirteen years ago after I stopped drinking. I would have those moments or those shifts in perception a lot in in 12 step meetings where you would hear people, you know, share their stories.
The Fitness Witch:
Those are those people were expanders to me. You know, they had done something that I had never done. So if you wanna lose weight, you wanna stop drinking, you wanna get fit, you wanna establish wealth, have a relationship, you haven't been able to create something you wanna create, do something you've never done, you've gotta think a way you've never thought. So, definition. An expander refers to any practice, person, experience, or substance that is believed to significantly broaden or deepen a person's awareness, often leading to a heightened perception of oneself.
The Fitness Witch:
That sounds good. The world around them and their connection to it. That sounds pretty amazing to me. Essentially, it's something that helps you expand your consciousness. These can include practices like meditation, deep breathing exercises, psychedelic drugs, certain forms of art and music, spending time in nature, that's 1 of my favorite, near death experiences, I had 1 of those, or profound personal insights, I've had many of those too.
The Fitness Witch:
So, you know, like I said, the first way I came across that was in, 12 step meetings where I heard other people sharing their stories and it allowed me to expand my mind which is something that's actually really easy to do if you're trying to achieve something. It's actually really easy to find somebody very similar to you who has achieved what you've done. You can hear their stories, you know, their speakers. So, that's something you can Google and and try to look for somebody, you know, achieving the things you wanna do with a similar demographic, similar age, gender. I think those types of things can be really helpful.
The Fitness Witch:
The other thing they mentioned there, near death experience or ego death. These are these like foxhole moments where you're like praying to God, like, God, just get me out of this and I'll do anything. You know, when the pain has gotten so great, we have these moments that allow us to see things in a different light. Those are some of the more painful ways, so let's talk about some of the easier ones. Ego death is a possibility though, if anybody's really excited about that.
The Fitness Witch:
So, 1 of the really easy ways we can, shift our consciousness is through habit. Right? What we're doing when we're shifting our consciousness or creating a new habit is we are rewriting the program of the subconscious mind. 95% of the time, we're living our lives right from the subconscious mind, from this conditioned program that we've absorbed from the world around us. So, if we wanna create some new circumstances, new habits, new things in our lives, we have to expand our consciousness, so to speak.

So, with a habit, we are repetitively doing a behavior which is going to in fact create a new program, in our subconscious mind. Exercise is a great way to do that. Meditation, obviously. Nutrition, establishing a habit with nutrition. I use stretching and Pilates as well.
The Fitness Witch:
You can rewire your brain purposely. There are methods that I'm going to share in future episodes where we are going to talk specifically about this and about mindset a little bit more in detail. Another way that you can expand your mind, working with professionals is by going to a therapist and having, CBT, cognitive brain therapy, or you can go to a hypnotherapist, and they can use neuro linguistic programming to help, raise your consciousness, shift your habits to change really. I mean, I think the more tools that we have at our fingertips because it's never just 1 thing that we do, it's a combination of things. It just makes it so much easier.
The Fitness Witch:
And I love expanders because, you know, will power is talked about a lot. Like you just gotta have the will power to change, but my view is that will power only works 5% of the time, right, when we're working in our conscious mind. The other 95% of the time we're working from the subconscious program. If you have willingness on your side, if you're just willing to, you know, use some expanders to change the pattern and making a decision has just failed so many times for me that I was just so willing to do what anybody told me that I was grateful in the end. So, willingness really is the key.
