Ford F-150 Lightning pickups start rolling off the assembly lines today. Next stop, all those waiting customers.
It’ll be a trickle. Out of 200,000 preorders, only 2000 have been built as of today. Some won’t receive their 2022 Lightnings until 2023. Right now, batteries are a bigger problem than chips. There just aren’t enough. That won’t be resolved until the battery plant in Georgia is fully online. Until then, forget the goal of 150,000 F150 Lightnings per year.
Ford’s charging network is a weak link. If you’re waiting on a Lightning, it’s frustrating, but at least you don’t have to worry about the stress of finding a charging station.
And get this, the F150 is second only to the Apple iPhone in terms of consumer sales.
