Voters in Massachusetts went to the polls yesterday in a Democratic Senate primary a lot of people are watching. Congressman Seth Moulton, forty-seven, is challenging Senator Ed Markey, eighty, who has been in Massachusetts politics since the nineteen seventies. Markey is seeking a third six-year term.
Moulton's pitch is blunt. What are you going to accomplish in the next six years that you haven't accomplished in the last fifty?
Markey is pushing back. He points to his twenty twenty-two climate bill and argues Moulton, a moderate, is out of step with the state. And this generational tension isn't only at the top of the ticket. Two longtime House incumbents, Stephen Lynch and Richard Neal, are facing younger challengers making the same argument.
Here is why it matters beyond Massachusetts. Scripture doesn't tell us which candidate to prefer. It never has. But it does speak plainly about leaders who forget a seat is a trust, not a possession. Ezekiel thirty-four opens with God rebuking shepherds who fed themselves instead of the flock. That warning cuts across party, age, and era. It is a question for the challenger too, not just the incumbent.

To Ohio, and a story that is hard to report.
A twenty-year-old Haitian-born college student, Pierre Damas Bel, died Monday on Interstate seventy. His family and his pastor say it was suicide. Bel had recently lost his Temporary Protected Status after the Supreme Court cleared the way for the administration to end Haiti's TPS designation. He had been required to wear an ankle monitor. He graduated from an Ohio high school in May. He was in Junior ROTC. He was about to start at Wright State.
His father says Bel called that morning and said he wasn't feeling okay mentally. Ohio's Republican governor, Mike DeWine, called it a horrible tragedy and asked whether this is really what we want done in our name.
Christians disagree in good faith about immigration policy. That is real. But Proverbs thirty-one, verse eight, tells God's people to open our mouths for those who cannot speak. However you land on TPS, a young man is dead and his family is grieving. Pray for them by name today.
To Utah. A judge ruled Tuesday that Tyler Robinson will stand trial on all seven charges in the killing of Charlie Kirk, including aggravated murder. The death penalty remains on the table. Robinson pleaded not guilty. He is due back in court October twenty-third. Kirk was killed September tenth, twenty twenty-five, at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. His widow Erika was in the courtroom.
Romans twelve reminds us vengeance belongs to God. Due process is one of the ways a society learns to wait for justice instead of grabbing for it. Pray for wisdom today before you repeat what you have heard.
