What is Liberate Your Story Podcast?

Liberate yourself from the programming and beliefs that keep you feeling small. Host & NLP Life Coach, Jessicah Travis, will help you unravel from the oppressive religious culture that told you how to think about yourself and the world around you. Let's liberate your story and live the life you want to!

I'm Jessicah Travis and this is the Liberate Your Story Podcast.
Words are loaded. For example….
What happens when I say…
Rebellious
Purity
Redeemed
Spiritual
Freedom
Choice
Identity
Beliefs
Sovereignty
There is no doubt that these words carry a history and a context for you. Some may feel good and some may make you highly uncomfortable or even angry. Words and language are how we put outside of us, to others, what is inside of us. We are taught how to do this by the culture we live in. With over 7000 languages throughout the world, how we view the world around us is directly connected to the language we use. Our words and the context of those words matter.
Psychologist and Linguist, Lera Boroditsky in her talk “How Languages Shape Thought” says that the research in language diversity shows us that the words we use shapes how we think. She also says “You teach people a new way of talking and that inadvertently also teaches people a new way of thinking.”
Now I won’t go into her entire talk and research but I will site it in the show notes because I think its fascinating research!
My point here is that if learning new language can open new ways of thinking, then might our current language (words and context) also hold us back? Can we liberate ourselves from the culture, context and programming of our life to enable us unimaginable opportunities? Could we expand our experience in such a way that we could heal ourselves from oppressive and damaging ideology? Could we free ourselves to be the fullest, truest version possible? I believe we can.
I created Liberate Your Story Podcast as a new weekly podcast to unravel the language, beliefs, and mindsets that keep women feeling small. We will free ourselves from oppressive programming, practices, and culture. We will find out where your programming ends and YOU begin!
I was raised in an evangelical Christian faith system. It was who my family was, who my community was, who I was. It formed how I viewed the world and all the people in it. At its core, this programming told me that I was safe and those who didn’t believe like me were unsafe…and I needed to save them. My mission in life was to save those lost from this lack of knowledge and help grow them into the same understanding I had about my eternal safety.
Here’s the thing, though. As a child, I had questions that reflected a deeper knowing than what my worldview was instilling in me. I had the right questions in the wrong community. These questions were met with everything from rejection to judgment. And they still weren’t answered. I learned quickly that my curiosity to discover the world around me was a negative, even heretical, quality.
So what does a curious human like me do? I buck the system. I find the cracks and I follow my curiosity. I am not happy in small boxes and my evangelical Christian box kept getting smaller and smaller over time. My being, my curiosity, my inner knowing didn’t fit anymore.
Worldviews are tricky little suckers. They are wrapped within us like a melding of our DNA. In 2019, I had a tumor removed from the optic nerve on my left eye. My surgeon likened it to removing a piece of chewing gum from tissue paper. I thought this was the perfect analogy for unraveling this belief system from myself. I had lost sight of where it ended and I began.
The liberation of myself from oppressive beliefs and worldviews has been a beautiful yet hard journey. Some would use the word deconstruction for this process. Sometimes I use this word. But really it's been about discovering me. I found me underneath all the patriarchal, mysgonetisc, toxic, and traumatic practices. I found that I could be trusted. I found that I have value simply because I exist, not because of what I believe about my existence. I was being set free under terms that were not about a Savior, Sin or Heaven. I was being freed to be enough all on my own.
On this podcast, I will be asking for 10-15 min a week to unravel the gum from the tissue paper. Words are powerful and often loaded. Some words are even secret club language…you know, the “other” meaning to the words that our community has created. These ideologies and words have often formed our identity about ourselves. I want to help free us from the language barrier we have with our worldview and open us up to the expansive discovery of ourselves and the world around us.
Are you ready to change the way we think so we can change the way we live? I have episodes ready and waiting to release for you, but there is a part you can play in this too. I’d love to unravel the language, identities, terms, practices, and beliefs that make you feel stuck or even oppressed. So call or text me! 608-55-STORY. I want to hear from you!
Liberating your story is about unraveling who you are from the programming that formed your worldview. You have control of who you want to be and how you want to tell that story. Your story is who you are. So let’s liberate your story from your programming! I can’t wait!
