What is Mystery Maniacs?

Mystery Maniacs Podcast is a comedy recap podcast dedicated to British Mystery Television. Formerly, Midsomer Maniacs podcast.

Sarah:

Hey, maniacs.

Mark:

Hey, maniacs. I'm no narc.

Sarah:

Yes. You are. You're so narky. Welcome to another mini episode.

Mark:

Mini episode number 43 covering season twelve episode six of Brokenwood.

Sarah:

Diamonds are a girl's best friend.

Mark:

And who is that girl?

Sarah:

I think it should have a question mark on it.

Mark:

It should.

Sarah:

The title should have a

Mark:

question mark. Should.

Sarah:

Diamonds cause well, maybe diamonds cause problems Maybe. In this episode. This is Trudy McTrudy's best episode ever.

Mark:

Trudy. Okay. Just clear Tracy Gray rocks it. Tracy Gray deserves an award for this episode. It's You're just laying it out?

Mark:

Just laying it out there.

Sarah:

And there is a true Trudy surprise at the very end of the episode.

Mark:

Now as mentioned, we got a little surprise little hint about this when the first episode dropped. Trude stole it. Tracy told us that wow the last episode was a big one for Trudes. And she was absolutely right.

Sarah:

Yeah. Before we dive in with our how to watch like a maniac questions.

Mark:

We got two announcements. The first of all, do you have YouTube? Do your children have YouTube?

Sarah:

Are they subscribed to Mystery Maniacs on YouTube?

Mark:

Because we sit upon the precipice. 1,900.

Sarah:

And 99 subscribers. It only takes one.

Mark:

Almost 2,000.

Sarah:

It only takes one.

Mark:

Just one more.

Sarah:

Call your mama.

Mark:

Tell

Sarah:

her to subscribe. That's all we need. The other thing we wanted to mention before we get into our questions is a book recommendation. I started listening to a book this week that I think, if you like Brokenwood, you will love this book. And it's the first book in a series, so I can't speak for the whole series.

Sarah:

But they are by Naomi Kutner, K U T T N E R. They're set in New Zealand in a little place kind of like Brokenwood.

Mark:

Yep.

Sarah:

And the first book is called The Retired Assassin's Guide to Country Gardening.

Mark:

There's a lot to unpack in that title.

Sarah:

Yes. And I can only say it's like if a retired John Wick, like Keanu Reeves, retired John Wick moved to Brokenwood. It's like that.

Mark:

That sounds good, actually.

Sarah:

It's very cozy. It's it's fun. It's got a good sense of humor. And I am three quarters of the way through it, and I still don't know who did it. And I usually have figured it out by that time.

Mark:

Oh, that's very good.

Sarah:

And I'm listening to the audiobook, and the narrator is really great. So The Retired Assassin's Guide to Country Gardening by Naomi Kutner.

Mark:

I'm gonna say that if the Frode's family Christmas is the funny bone of this show Mhmm. This episode is the heart. Aw. Because this this they've been building since Ray first appeared to this moment. Yeah.

Mark:

It all ties together. We get a picture of Ray and Trudy's dad.

Sarah:

It's the Nielsen family history.

Mark:

Yes. In this one.

Sarah:

That one's the Odes family history. This is the Nilsons. Alright. Are you ready to watch it like a maniac though?

Mark:

Absolutely no spoilers.

Sarah:

Nope. Listen to this, then go watch it or watch it again and see if you can answer the questions. Yes. We have five of them this time. Yes.

Sarah:

Are you ready? Yes. Number one, what is the cake destroying dog's name? There's a dog who destroys a cake, but what is the dog's name?

Mark:

Yep. It it It is knowable. It is knowable and enjoyable.

Sarah:

Number two, what's Chuck Taylor got to do with it?

Mark:

I was stunned that you picked this up, and then I was like, oh, yeah. Of course you did. Chuck Taylor. That makes sense.

Sarah:

Yeah. What's Chuck Taylor got to do with it? A famous basketball player.

Mark:

Yes.

Sarah:

Number three, who's the Buzzcocks fan?

Mark:

I was kinda stunned at this moment.

Sarah:

The Buzzcocks are a band.

Mark:

And Pete Shelley's band from the the seventies, the early proto punk band, one of my favorite bands. And, yeah. There's a mention.

Sarah:

Yep. Number four, what's nothing or running? You don't even know what to say. I I have to tell you guys, I almost every time we do a mini have to scold Mark for his comment. After I read the question, he'll say something that almost gives it away.

Sarah:

Yep. I have to say, no. No. No. No.

Sarah:

Don't say it. Nope. This time, he's like, just doesn't say anything. So what's nothing or running? Nothing.

Sarah:

Nothing. It's really important that it's nothing. Nothing. Or running. Or running.

Sarah:

And finally, why is Dennis jamming when he comes in the door of the cop shop?

Mark:

Dennis?

Sarah:

He is certainly jamming. Buchanan. Makes quite the entrance.

Mark:

Quite the entrance. So what's the

Sarah:

cake destroying dog's name? What's Chuck Taylor got to do with it? Who's the Buzzcocks fan? What's nothing or running? And why is Dennis jamming when he comes in the door of the cop shop?

Mark:

Now I wanted

Sarah:

to And I'll also say, as I've mentioned earlier, there is a Trudy shaped treat at the very end of this episode that is totally worth it.

Mark:

Absolutely. I wanted to mention that we kinda had a post go viral on the Facebook this week that has Trudy's picture on it, and I'll mention that to Tracy. We will because there are many comments on that post about how well Tracy did in that episode. I will mention that to her that she has so much love from our

Sarah:

community. Absolutely.

Mark:

And tell her what an amazing job that she did.

Sarah:

So go watch it like a maniac.

Mark:

Bye, Maniacs.

Sarah:

Bye, Maniacs.
