Hello, everyone. This is Jeff.
Jane:This is Jane.
Jeff:And welcome to Fragraphilia. We are back for another episode and pretty excited. We're having a great, great little stretch run. We're continuing on. We've had a great year, I would say, of smelling things.
Jane:That is the point of this podcast.
Jeff:That is the point of this podcast.
Jane:No. But we did get some really great samples in. I was in charge of the sample ordering.
Jeff:I know, and I am very excited to dive into it. We're a little tired because this is, as we're going into this fall, and I know it's still July technically, but this is as parents, this is our first, like, back to school kind of wind up. He's been in pre k Henry has been in pre k since the beginning of this year, but this is now he's going to a new school, and we're getting a taste of what that means. The paperwork, the doctor appointments, the meet and greets, the back to school shopping. It's kind of intense.
Jeff:It's like more than the holidays.
Jane:You've been handling most of it, and I just wanna say you're a great dad.
Jeff:Well, thank you, but that's because you've been, you've been doing your your work, helping out your sister.
Jane:Yeah. That's right. I was up with a newborn till 2AM last night, so I'm a little a little low energy, but I'm so excited for this podcast. It doesn't matter.
Jeff:I do wanna just add a little bit on that because it is so rare that Jane stays up till 2AM. I've I've known you since 2013. We have lived a life traveling and and partying and and having great times, but you are you're not a late night person. You never have been.
Jane:Staying up till 2AM is basically going on a three day bender for me, so that's the version of me you're getting.
Jeff:It's like, do do you ever make it to one? Sure. But two, it's like, oh, man, it's been a while. So, but I got to
Jane:She's cute. She's worth it.
Jeff:I got to I got to hold her a little for the first time today, and, well, it's nice to hold a child that weighs, like, ten pounds.
Jane:Oh my god. I know.
Jeff:It's so easy. You can just do it one handed.
Jane:One that doesn't scream demands at you.
Jeff:I was
Jane:It was a rude awakening coming back to a snotty three year old.
Jeff:Yeah. And, you know, I was thinking about, like, just preparing for all this episode and all this all the, you know, what quite frankly, we've we've encountered so many and sampled so many perfumes that we couldn't even fit them in to this episode. We gotta do like a whole other episode of other ones. But I was also thinking about Henry and it's like, did we rob him of a of a signature scent? Like, I always knew my dad wore Aqua Velvea.
Jeff:You know? I smell Aqua Velvea, I think, of my dad, and there was periods of, like, Old Spice and things like that, but we're mixing we're wearing, like, two, three different perfumes a day. Henry would never know.
Jane:You much more than I do. I feel like I'm much more of a regular scent rotation person. I don't I don't sample as much as you do. I kinda stick to my tried and true. I don't know.
Jane:I hope he does. He has such an incredible memory, and he notices when I put on new perfume. So I don't know. Give it time where he can verbalize these things. I I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes very perfume literate without even trying to.
Jeff:Well, I think that we will know we've done a good job when he smells something and goes, oh, yeah. My parents wouldn't wear that. So, no, that's not them. Yeah, that's definitely not them. But big news, and we're so grateful for the response.
Jeff:We finally, after the long journey, finally brought Heliotrope by Perfumer H home. We have mentioned it so many times and talked about it being on the want list for so long. And we had some great responses when we posted that
Jane:People were like, oh my god. Finally. What is wrong with you people?
Jeff:A lot of Henry jokes saying like, oh, wow. You were able to, like, keep him calm long enough for you to to do it. And it's like, yep. But that was a it feels like it's always been here.
Jane:I was almost like we've been putting it off for so long. I was asking myself, oh my god. Am I over heliotrope? But then, you know, we got it in our own house, and immediately, I'm like, oh, no. This is everything I remember and more.
Jane:Heliotrope is that perfume.
Jeff:Yeah. And I I I guess I never really dove in much of it. It was, and I don't know exactly when perfumer age if I was, you know, really good at producing this podcast, I would do that research, but it was released in 2015, so it had to be kind of early for Perfumer H. So it must have been one of the early releases, and it is just such a banger. It's so good.
Jeff:It makes me so happy.
Jane:And there's not not too many great heliotrope perfumes. It's a note that's hard to work.
Jeff:Yeah. Someone had written in and asked if it was like heliotrope milk bath or how to how it compared to heliotrope milk bath by Universal Flowering, which you love quite a bit, and I like. It's just not something I would wear.
Jane:Yeah. I I love it, but I will say heliotrope milk bath, it's very different primarily because heliotrope heliotrope milk bath has a insane dose of civet that that I love. I think it can it can get a little pissy for some people, but I think that the pissiness plays well with the Play Doh quality of Heliotrope.
Jeff:And I feel like Heliotrope milk bath also is a little more bubble bath. Obviously, I mean, it has bath in the name. It's a little bit more candied floral at time, especially in the opening, but it does yeah. Once it ventures into its base, then it gets, like, real heady and kinda skanky.
Jane:It's very skanky. Very skanky. Whereas, Heliotrope by Perfumer H is very vanilla fluffy.
Jeff:Yeah. And, Heliotrope by Perfumer H, to me, it's it's much more kind of almondy and musky, a little bit, woody.
Jane:And it has this thing in it where it's like a salty skin quality. Like, it feels like sun warmed skin. Do you get that?
Jeff:I get that a
Jane:little kind of like what what is the Jane Birkin perfume she does?
Jeff:L'Ere D'Ureal.
Jane:Yeah. It has, like, some kind of genius conceptualizing around skin scents. I know that's so popular now.
Jeff:Well, as you had mentioned earlier, at the top, we did a bunch of sample orders. You took mostly the lead, but I did make a little bit of a sense split order because we've kinda been going through our surge phase as we always do. And I there's always ones that I see all the time. They're classic surge. I'm sure that we've smelled them over the years and they just never really stuck.
Jeff:But then I was find that that I've almost blind bought a few times. And one is Shergui. And I've always kind of been hesitant on it because it has like a hay, honey, tobacco combo that I don't always love. It can be a little dry with with
Jane:That's like a profile I like, but I know you're you're not into.
Jeff:Yeah. It's just it's rare that I'm ever in that mood. And so I thought, well, what the hell? Let me just get in. We had we've had so much luck with, like, recently and a couple of the others.
Jeff:I thought, well, I'll get that in. And then the other one was. And first off, sugar ghee is a legend for a reason. It's so good, and it's a lot different than I ever anticipated.
Jane:You know, I I believe I was really familiar with it at some point because I think my sister had a bottle and she wore it and she really liked it. She I think she wore shirghi and and five o'clock. It's beautiful because it's kind of like classic Serge, but
Jeff:Oh, it's so pretty. Just sprayed it on a little
Jane:The honey has that kind of there's always, like, a little avant gourmand going on in Serge. Mhmm. I mean, especially in some of his more recent compositions, but it's kind of always been there from the beginning, like a lot of dried fruit notes. So the honey's doing that here. It's not as it's not as spiced as some of his compositions are, but, man, he he does love a honey note.
Jeff:The honey, it's it's a lot more powdery powdery powdery. It's a lot more powdery. It's a lot more powdery and kind of incense y than I anticipated, and the hay isn't as dry. It definitely has that kind of, like, earthy dryness to it, but it's that that's where the honey kinda sweetens it and almost says loops it up. What the hell?
Jeff:You're perfect. Get off like, you know, gives it some kind of, like, oily texture. Right.
Jane:More Manhattan's for you.
Jeff:But smelling it right now when I sprayed it the other day and wore it, I was like, god. I love this. I really, really love this. It smells even better now.
Jane:It really does. And I wanna It sounds like the notes, hey, honey, tobacco, musk, incense, and sandalwood, that sounds like it could be so earthy, but there's something that's like, no. This is a fancy perfume from Paris. You know? It's it's Yeah.
Jane:Like a very elevated composition. Those notes could sound like they could be overpowering, and it's just not.
Jeff:Sometimes that combination touch. Can seem a little boring, you know. I don't know. But this feels like you were saying I think that's a great way of putting it. There's still something very fancy Paris perfumery about it that takes it away from that common hay and tobacco and honey and with a little sandalwood.
Jeff:It's like all these things that you you see all the time.
Jane:It's like Marie Antoinette's pretend farm she had on Versailles.
Jeff:Yes. It's I'm loving it. But the other surprise in you kept sending me like, hey, this one is, this one's always on discounters, this, Prusseman Vulte. And I've just never really thought about it. One, I'm always hesitant to get too interested in any of the Skyscraper style bottles.
Jane:I really loathe those bottles. They are terrible.
Jeff:There's so many good ones. I'm glad they've been they've discontinued the use of those bottles. This is now when you buy it new, it comes in the bell jar, but we put it on the other day. I think it's from 2020.
Jane:Is it really?
Jeff:Yeah. It's just like, man, it's such an awesome rose oud in the most, like, kind of what you expect of a rose oud. It's just not exciting.
Jane:It's not breaking the mold. Yeah. It's not blowing your mind, but it's just so goddamn good, you can't deny it. And you're like, oh, wait. I can get this for under a $150?
Jane:I would be a fool not to own this.
Jeff:Yeah. It's it just makes me I don't know. It it especially gives you that early to mid two thousand tens kind of like, hey, we're doing a little bit of oud here, and we're doing a little rose, and we're get Do you have it? I would love to
Jane:smell it again.
Jeff:And I just, it was just hidden right. And you wore it, you were immediately like, let's buy it immediately. And you sent me like, the the listing of it
Jane:and Which is crazy, because I'm never like that.
Jeff:You are, I know.
Jane:But I'm such a Oh, yeah. I'm
Jeff:It reminds me so much of just Rose of No Man's Land by by Rideau. It has kind of a ooze satin mood vibe to it.
Jane:Right. It's it's of an era. Like, he was for sure chasing the trend, and that's so that's fine as long as you're doing something fantastic.
Jeff:But it has something a little bit more electric. It's a little lighter than those, I think. It's a little bit more spicier, a little bit more incense. I mean, just like we were talking about sugar gooey, it's just like Serge always has spices, and he always has incense.
Jane:Yeah. And the rose and oud are the only notes listed, but there's definitely the typical Serge chorus of spices Yeah. Singing underneath here. That's so good.
Jeff:It's totally something you've probably smelled a few times over. Probably have if you have a good library, you you or wardrobe, as they say, You've probably smelled it before, but there's just something a little extra to this that just makes it, you know, why Serge's search?
Jane:I could never pronounce this.
Jeff:Sorry. Prilusament. Oh,
Jane:did you okay. You looked it up.
Jeff:It means perilously yours.
Jane:Perilously yours. Wow.
Jeff:Well, you know
Jane:I like it.
Jeff:Serge is always a little freaky, and I like that about him. But anyway
Jane:That's how he got me.
Jeff:I'm so excited to try both of those. And I always love because we don't wanna just, like, blind buy and buy a bunch of shit in this crazy world that we're living in right now, but it is nice to think, to to play the game in your mind of, like, oh, I've almost blind bought that a few times, and that would have been a real score.
Jane:Only far, the only miss from Serge that we've had is Nuit de Cellophane, which we discussed on our last episode in the game.
Jeff:Yeah. That's the only Serge perky.
Jane:Ironically, one I paid for and owned online. Point.
Jeff:Yeah. That's the only surge that I can think of in recent memory. I I can't think of many surges that I haven't liked. And there's ones that I've never been a big fan of. What's the I mean, jeez.
Jeff:Fumariturk. Oh, I love Fumariturk. What's the the famous one that was at Shashido? Oh, shit. Yeah.
Jeff:Fumariturk. Yeah. I've never been a big fan of that one. That's just not my type of perfume.
Jane:I get more and more But
Jeff:you like
Jane:the it. More that I wear. Yeah. Lisa, she's like she's like, it's one of my favorites, and I'm like, you know, I've been
Jeff:able to
Jane:resonate with her taste and perfume. I'm like, you know what? I'm gonna, like, give it a good try, and it's, you know, I like it more the more that I wear it, but I'm somebody where it's like, I like to be challenged too. So there's that.
Jeff:Yeah. Well, speaking of shout outs, we're gonna send one out to Eau de Genevieve. Genevieve posted that she, and this plays into our sample order because when we did our last episode and we went through some of the Karine Rottfeld's herpiums, we, you know, there was a couple that we really loved, a couple that were like whatever, and everybody kept writing in like, you gotta try forgive me. You gotta try Sebastian. Forgive me,
Jane:Which I can actually now I understand why people were like, why the fuck haven't you tried these perfumes? Because they are the most me perfumes of the entire lineup because they're, like, spicy white florals.
Jeff:Forgive me is so amazing. And that is the one that Genevieve ended up buying based on listening to us. Oh. Or wait. No.
Jeff:Wait. That make
Jane:She bought a Rellian.
Jeff:Oh, a Rellian. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry. Well, you know, hey.
Jeff:I'm just really excited to talk about the the cream. But, yeah, she bought Aurelian based on how we spoke about it and then also
Jane:On Chelsea's recommendation, Chelsea was the one who said you've gotta try Aurelian. Yes. And Genevieve said that Aurelian has become her favorite perfume.
Jeff:Could be. Yeah. Could be her favorite
Jane:She said it's currently ruined her for other perfumes. I don't know if you follow Genevieve. She has an incredible collection of perfumes, so that's quite the ringing endorsement.
Jeff:Yeah. And I love that we're all kind of like, there's a there's a handful of us that are all going through, like, a a careen celebration of going through the perfumes and falling in love with one or the other. But Aurelien, originally, we were told by Chelsea from the Beast of Jeuveredan to try that one, and we tried it and we talked about it and then Genevieve. But the other one that everyone keeps talking about is Forgive Me, and god, that is so good.
Jane:It's very complex. It's this one is so me. It's crazy because it's like tuberose, ylang ylang, gardenia, tons of patchouli, olivinum, labdanum, a little bit of pink pepper at the top. It's stunning. And it's complex.
Jane:It's so complex. Jeff is like making a a face of, like, agonized enjoyment smelling it. Oh my god.
Jeff:I can't eat. It's so good. I
Jane:Wait. Where does what is our ranking now? Because,
Jeff:Karen, Yeah. What is our See, this is
Jane:This is a problem.
Jeff:This is where you run into problems because I I feel like, and I hate to reduce it to this, and it's sad that I'm even gonna say this because I think this house is really good, but it's when we were first testing out, like, Celine perfumes, when they were first released in the early twenty twenties, And we just, like, there were so many that we really loved. We loved the house as a whole, and it was just like, you almost end up in kind of a paralyzed, you know, the classic paralysis of choice where there's so many that you like and you don't know which one to kinda go with and you end up, I hope not in this instance, going with a warm bow like we did and we love like
Jane:It was kind of a random ass choice.
Jeff:It was a random ass choice. It was a good one. Yeah. We won't list the Rainbow by Celine as as listeners would know, and we have since then wished it was, like, nightclubbing or reptile or Dom or tie.
Jane:Jeff has become a black tie
Jeff:to say that out loud.
Jane:I know. You're so embarrassed about this.
Jeff:Because it's so it's like, man, it's it is such a you know? I don't know. It's just it's so easy to go
Jane:like Rolling Stones, that's the best rock band.
Jeff:Well, it's more like, I'm into the Rolling Stones. Oh, really? What's your favorite song? Oh, Satisfaction. It's like, well, okay.
Jeff:Please get out of my face. But anyway so but now, it's like, I love Corinne because Corinne, sorry, that it's such a crazy just collection of notes, and it feels very, like, 2,004, and it's just like, go but forgive me and Aurelien are just like perfume craft
Jane:Well, so it's excellence. Yes. You're naming our top three. Forgive me, Aurelien, and then number one for me is still Corinne, her namesake fragrance from the line.
Jeff:I agree. I I think that I would definitely wanna go with that first.
Jane:That's
Jeff:enough. Because it feels like this is just such a cool perfume.
Jane:So let's make this happen this year.
Jeff:But this smelling this I right now love commit to things drunk on this smell. I know. It's so good.
Jane:I love to commit to things and then, like, frustrate our listeners by not falling.
Jeff:Yeah. So know, we'll see how long it's going to buy

Jane:Okay. So we've talked about our favorites, the best. Let's get around to Sebastian, which is quite similar to forgive me because it's a
Jeff:It's so good too.
Jane:White floral. But Sebastian, you might hear a masculine name and think, oh, maybe this is a more masculine take on white florals. No. This is a goddamn vanilla ice cream tuberos. Like, it's
Jeff:I don't get that. I I mean, I guess I get that a little bit.
Jane:But It's spicy and green. It's very spicy and green, but when it dries down, the vanilla and sandalwood and tubers become very sweet and delicious. It's amazing. But, yeah, I I am a little confused by the masculine moniker for this.
Jeff:I don't know that. I mean, I I don't know
Jane:I support men in white florals. I want it to happen more. I want more men in vanillic white florals.
Jeff:I well, I'm here.
Jane:I know
Jeff:you are. Front of you. I'm living that. It's why But I will say that I don't know how we get out of not getting all four at some point.
Jane:I support this recklessness.
Jeff:Yeah. Because it is smelling it it's just like this room right now smells so incredible between Sebastian and Forgive Me. And then I know how much I enjoy Aurelien because Aurelien is like this weird you get this orange blossom, these along along kind of like white floral, kind of humid, dense white florals, and then it's balanced by this kind of, like, woodiness and this musk, and it's this really cool interplay that kinda goes throughout the entire wear wear. And I I love that too. So it's like those four, I'm still kind of like I don't know how I would I mean, obviously, we're not gonna get all four at once, and then this could be years in the making, but it's like those four, I wanna always be able to smell.
Jeff:I wanna be able to, like,
Jane:experience native to us. Yes. With that with just sampling them, they feel like they're in our collection already. And, I mean, I have to say, Corinne Reutfeld, she is literally part of the reason I went into fashion early in my life. I I would never have started my blog without Corinne Reutfeld.
Jane:This was back when they had foreign magazines at bookstores. Her work in Paris Vogue was incredible. I don't know how interested in perfume she is, obviously, enough to start her own line. But does having immaculate taste in art automatically translate to having immaculate taste in perfume? Apparently, I love her.
Jane:I think because of how incredible our success has been with sampling this line, I really hope that we get all four of these. What order would you like to buy them in?
Jeff:I think I would go if you, you know, gun to head.
Jane:Okay? Doesn't have to be.
Jeff:I don't know. But if I had to make the order right now, it'd be Corinne. Forgive me. Mhmm. Aurelian.
Jeff:Sebastian.
Jane:I am in total agreement.
Jeff:Yeah. Okay. Alright.
Jane:I'm so glad we both feel this way. And until we can follow through on this purchase, I'm just going to start wearing a lot more black eyeliner and leather skirts.
Jeff:I think you should. Just like
Jane:Support the vibes.
Jeff:Have martinis and cigarettes in your hand and all Yeah.
Jane:She smokes like a chimney. This is great for me.
Jeff:And yeah. Okay. Alright. Now, going into more florals, also part of your sample purchase from, from Lucky Scent that I was really man, I was surprised at how much I really enjoyed this perfume, and that is Flowercliff by Lise.
Jane:This was okay. I'm gonna say it. I didn't think I was going to like this at all. Plums, blueberry, honeysuckle, pollen. I don't know.
Jane:It sounded sounded like a lofty idea that might be difficult to land, but they fucking did it. And this is a very, very modern perfume. I've never smelled a composition like this. Whoever is doing their perfumes, I don't know. I don't think that the owners are.
Jane:It's actually incredible.
Jeff:It's a it's a really
Jane:really good profile I would ever be remotely interested in, but it's so good. I cannot deny it.
Jeff:I yeah. I I also feel like a lot of times when you I think in general, like, you're a new band, if you're a new author, if you're an artist, if any type of creative field or expressive field, even in the culinary arts and things like that, when you come out, like, I love several of the early lease hits. And you come out of kind of nowhere and you hit pre kind of boom, like you're hitting right as the boom is happening, a lot of times you much like bands that come out and they have a great album, maybe they even have a great second album. It's like, a lot of times, it's, you know, you don't get to keep hit you don't get to keep hits. And I haven't loved every one of them because they're not really always hitting in my
Jane:Guys, I don't like oh, is it celestial skin or whatever?
Jeff:I like the celestial object, I think is what it is. Is that what it is?
Jane:Well, I don't think you like that, sweetie.
Jeff:Is that the one I don't like? I don't know. Know. Ethereal Wave wasn't really my type of perfume. I love it.
Jeff:You love that one.
Jane:Like, gone through the entire bottle almost.
Jeff:But I don't always know that you're gonna well, and, I mean, as these houses grow, you're not gonna love everyone. You you know, that's just the the the odds.
Jane:But certainly, the one with blueberry and plums and honeysuckle, I would think, oh, that's not for us.
Jeff:I was a little yeah. My I had well, not low expectations. I had lowered expectations, but I will tell you this. I love honeysuckle. Honeysuckle reminds me of childhood.
Jeff:It reminds me of just, like, I love honeysuckle, so that was always you mix honeysuckle, and then you to me, like, a natural connection is Jasmine. And it's like, oh, that's kinda cool. And then plum, I like plum because I'm a burrito boy, or I was. And there's always some kinda, like, plumber
Jane:key.
Jeff:You know, there's always some kind of
Jane:A breakup.
Jeff:Yeah. There's all kind of, you know, it just blueberry is like, what the fuck is even a blueberry note? I don't even know what that would even
Jane:taste not great. Have you ever tasted a blueberry and been like, yum? I haven't.
Jeff:Our sun goes Yeah. Every single
Jane:It's it's not
Jeff:I like blueberries, but it's
Jane:Blueberry like is like, it's an artificial when you're encountering it in, like, perfume or in candy, it's it's artificial because the real thing Yeah. It's more of a textural experience
Jeff:than kind of like an ethereal kind of like an ideal of a thing.
Jane:Right. Yes. The the concept of a blueberry.
Jeff:And so it it it just I didn't know what to think there, but I didn't when I wore it, the two times that I've worn it, and I wore it, like, full on, I sprayed it on, proper application, went out in the day, lived my life, came back, and I'm I'm pretty, pretty pumped on it. I think I would I would want it for sure. Like, I think it's a really good
Jane:I agree, and because for me, we smell a lot of perfume. Mhmm. For me, this is, like, pushing the concept of what perfume can be.
Jeff:Yeah. It's
Jane:it's weird. It's undeniably it's weird. Yeah. It's weird in a way that it's like, oh, you've accomplished something that nobody else has before. Also, I wanna give a 10 out of 10 rating to the name of Flower Glyph.
Jane:I think that's an incredible perfume name.
Jeff:I think that's a really good perfume name, and I just think that when you can create kind of a weirdo scent while maintaining this is a perfume, it's wearable, it's feels luxurious. It feels like this is an adornment. I am putting something on me to, you know, enhance my living, you know. I'm not trying to, like, when we say, like, challenging or weirdo, it's like, oh, this smells like rusty It's nails and not moist trying to blow our mind. Yeah.
Jeff:It's like, it's like, it's just kind of like, it reminds me a little bit going back to the Corinne Perpumes. It reminds me of Aurelian in the sense that you have this very floral side of it. And then you kind of have this other side that is the ink, even the pollen where it's like floral adjacent, where it just kind of takes you into a different realm of florals that you're not always accustomed to, and they kind of interplay. And when I was wearing it both times, I kept feeling like, oh, wow. I smell that honeysuckle.
Jeff:I smell that jasmine. It's so beautiful. And then it would kinda go into this little kind of interesting area that was never it never left perfume land. It was always, like, firmly a perfume, but it was just kind of like a cool experience, and it's that's to me, kind of rare because we go through the, you know, we sample so much, and it's like, oh, there's the the top notes, and there's the bass, and it ends up here, and it's like, it's very routine. This felt very, very, very interesting to me.
Jane:I agree that.
Jeff:And I enjoyed it.

Jeff:We also need to mention another one that I've actually it would normally be in my sense of the week because I've worn it so many times. But we were sent a full bottle, graciously. We are gracious. Sacred Ember by Sage and Salt, your old Bren Corbin.
Jane:Yes. We used to brush shoulders a lot in the fashion PR world, and he started his own incredible line of metaphysical objects and bag charms. And in the last year and a half, year, perfume, and we have been blown away by the compositions. But I think that you said this one is your favorite.
Jeff:Yeah. I love the first two. I really, really enjoy the the first two. Sadly, I can't remember. I know one's Luna.
Jeff:It's like Luna Absolute, and then I can't remember.
Jane:Let me Google it.
Jeff:Look at those up while I'm
Jane:Manhattan, here with we're not as sharp as we should be.
Jeff:But I feel like Luna Absolute is the one that I you drift you gravitate towards more.
Jane:Which is crazy because it's a fig perfume. It's the only fig perfume I wear.
Jeff:Yeah. I
Jane:wear it a lot. It's it's really great in the summer.
Jeff:The other one is the one that I I preferred, but the sacred ember, which is bergamot and there's some pink pepper and cardamom, there's tobacco flower and patchouli, Palo Santo. That's right.
Jane:Moon ring. Moon
Jeff:That one I really I really like. But this one is just hitting me right now. It really feel it's so hot here in Texas. It's so muggy. And then this beautiful little perfume that I just spray on in the morning, and it has this nice dry incense and this Palo Santo, and you get a little bit of that pop from the bermont, a little bit of sweetness from the pink pepper.
Jeff:The cardamom gives it this, like, little staticky powder, and it wears so easy, and it wears so I don't know. I feel
Jane:There's something kind of texturally insane about it because you and I because we're big incense lovers, I feel like we smell incense perfumes all the time. And incense is such a strong note that it can kind of flatten itself. And there's something that's happening with sacred ember where it kind of like captures that alive poppiness of, like, a burning fire. And there's also something addictively sweet that's very subtle. It's very, very subtle.
Jane:I don't know if you pick up on it even. There's, like, some kind of, like, if you burnt a candy, a hard a piece of hard butterscotch candy in a fire, and it was, like, the faintest whiff of that, it's beautiful.
Jeff:No. Yeah. I'm gonna have to look over It definitely has, like, some ambery notes that I enjoy. I feel like as a person who's burned a lot of incense in his life, there's always incense that gets really smoky. And and also even when you have high hopes, oh, this incense is this type of, you know, aroma and fragrance and it has this they all end up in this kind of, like, burnt, almost choking kind of smokiness to it.
Jeff:But sometimes you get a really not like Cinnamon Projects is a is a brand that I really like their incense. You get an incense that really is aromatic. It's really fragrant, and it just kinda lifts the air, and it adds a certain purity to it that just kind of like I don't know. It feels like a I would read books about ancient rituals and things like that, and when they would enter in the story, and you hear about, like, smoke baths and incense baths and everything, this is kinda what I imagined because it's smoky and you get that, but it's not it's not hard to breathe. It's very easy.
Jeff:It's very cleansing, and I, you know, I don't wanna sound like I'm reading a brand copy here or anything like that, but it feels ritualistic. It's really nice.
Jane:Well, I mean, you can say that because it's true. One thing about Corbin is that he does create these perfumes with ritual intention according to lunar cycles. All of my friends are big into the the moon calendar. Like, yesterday, Catherine was texting me. What are you guys doing for the new moon?
Jane:That's my group text, and I'm sure I know for a fact that many many women listening to this have practiced the same sort of thing or or are in friend groups that are very witchy. So I would say sage and salt that they are your people.
Jeff:Yeah. So sacred ember, seriously, check it out if you like a kind of smoky, hollow Santa with a little pepperiness to it. It's got a little bit of oud. It's really nice. The notes actually read a little heavier than it is because I feel like it's a pretty light pair.
Jane:It's very light. It's very summer appropriate. And when we were in the car today, you were like, I have something to confess. I was like, okay. And you're like, I'm in my Palo Santo era.
Jeff:I feel like I am in my Palo Santo era. There's so many that I'm wearing right now that's just like, oh my god. Am I wearing a lot of, like, Palo Santo and sandalwood? Am I is this, like, 2013? But that's where I'm at.
Jeff:And it's funny how those things go because, you know, sometimes you're you're going through a rose phase, sometimes you're going through, I don't know, tuberose phase or something like that, but right now, I think I'm just at the very beginning of it, so
Jane:Got this guy smelling like a Buck Mason employee.
Jeff:Yeah. Yes. Yes. But speaking of releases, I guess, I
Jane:Okay. Where's this going?
Jeff:I got my little email today because I'm on the byredo mailing list, apparently, that they're new I I've seen other people kinda post about it, but I don't really watch it. And they're they have a new release coming out, and I was like, oh, what is this? It's called Future Memories, and it's like, oh, ambery green musky fragrance built around a modern texture vanilla. I was like, okay. Yeah.
Jeff:I mean, what isn't? What the fuck does that What isn't nowadays? Everybody's doing like a well, I'm gonna do a modern texture vanilla with something on top of it. And anyway, you know, I don't wanna, you know, my my love is is has been around for a long time for Byredo, and I don't wanna pick on them or anything. But then I saw that the perfumer was Quentin Biche.
Jane:How did that make you feel?
Jeff:It made me feel like that, oh, no. You know, it's like you've had this Byrito the has always been kind of cagey about who their perfumers are, but it's always been kind of understood that for the majority, it's been Jerome Epinette, and he has a certain way, and I love his perfume. And it's always kind of that's the brand. Now, on the flip side, there's always been an argument that holy shit, these Byritos are expensive, but they don't last very long. And I get that.
Jeff:Whatever. But so now you just wanna make them last three you wanna go from, like, oh, this only lasts for four hours to I wanna last it for for, like, two days, three days. And it feels a little also like Biche has become the Jack Antonoff of perfume.
Jane:Woah.
Jeff:Yeah. It's like, oh, we need a hit

Jeff:We need a hit here. So let's let's let's bring in Jack Antonoff. I think you're

Jeff:I mean, obviously, I'm not picking on either, you know. Talent is talent. You don't get to where you are without, you know, having something there, but it's just kind of like know you serious can

Jeff:that have a dear to your feel like don't need to do the
Jane:fuck out. Yeah.
Jeff:You just don't need to you you have. You have an identity. You don't have to recreate it now. And then you don't have I mean, literally, like, in some of the copy that I read, they were talking about, like, oh, long lasting is part of the yeah. Like, has, like
Jane:Oh, how gauche.
Jeff:Notable, you know, notable things about the composition or whatever. It's long lasting.
Jane:Oh, makes me touch my pearls. I don't like that.
Jeff:Yeah. It's it's aldehydes, galbanum. When I saw the aldehydes, I was like, okay, you know, you know, they did like M. Menck, always loved that. That's a really heavy aldehydesic perfume.
Jeff:True. But then I saw ambra fix, and I was like, oh, yeah. It's it's okay. Let's, and galvan them, but, know, what are you doing at texture vanilla? I mean, I don't think, I don't know.
Jeff:I think this is just me saying that I love the history of Byredo, and now that it's transitioned and it's fully been as gone, and now we're going into the Bichara.
Jane:It really is the Bichara.
Jeff:And it's like, oh, man.
Jane:Is he low key the Trump of perfume?
Jeff:Oh my god. No. I'm sorry. Is too loaded. I should never say
Jane:that. I'm just kidding.
Jeff:That's The Jack Anderson.

Jeff:Yeah. Because then it's just like, oh, we gotta we gotta stay current and and I'm sorry.
Jane:Feel like does engage in a little bit of perfume terrorism, let's be honest.
Jeff:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's it's a it's a little it's a little bit much. Anyway, I will still go try it and, hey, maybe I'm I'll be surprised because, you know, I've liked a handful of the of the last few and I kinda like some of the the X rays, the what they've done with Sacred Veils.
Jeff:I like some of those, so we'll see. Jury's out. But I really just wanna know
Jane:I mean, I am totally disengaged from the brand, so I only get my news from you.
Jeff:Well, let's get into to brands and perfumes that we are engaged with and do scents of the week.
Jane:Okay. Alright. Should I go first?
Jeff:You go first.
Jane:Okay. Alright. I should say that the main perfume that I have been wearing is the gorgeous, stunning Rising Sun by Right of Way, which I was given as a gift after the brand heard me put it in the game.
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:They had previously given us waterfall, and and I think that I didn't talk about waterfall as much as I talk about, oh my god. This perfume rising sun is blowing my mind. And I was very close to buying it, and then it showed up on our doorstep. This is so beautiful, and it's everything that I want right now. You know, I fell in love with Dagaje by La Curie Perfumes.
Jane:I think it was, like, two summers ago that was kind of my perfume of the summer, and that is a orange tobacco sandalwood fragrance.
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:Which is also those are also notes that are in rising sun. The, the full note list is tobacco, sandalwood, patchouli, leather, vanilla, and tonka. That could sound like it's very heavy. There's something magical going on with rising sun where they feel it's such a delicate composition. Like, I texturally, it's almost like tissue paper.
Jane:I love wearing this in the studio. I can't stop wearing it.
Jeff:You wear it all the time.
Jane:I haven't really worn anything else. It's really great. I've actually I'm deep in the middle of a new painting collection, and, you know, sometimes I like to just mostly wear one perfume while I'm painting a certain collection so that I can kind of have those memories. And I I think that Rising Sun by Right of Way might be my my perfume memory of the summer because I'm wearing that while I'm creating my wild court collection. And other than rising sun, I have been wearing Der Viche by Rogue Perfumery.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:Which I think we talked talked about extensively in our last episode asking, you know, if you guys had perfumes that you recommended from them. I ordered several in my latest sample set, and Der Viche is
Jeff:That's kind of a banger.
Jane:Yeah. Good. It's a total banger. Let me just say also, it's only $85.
Jeff:For, like, 30 ml and the little I like to have little bottles.
Jane:This is a hell of a perfume for $85. It's like a musky, skanky, vintage style amber. It's heavy on the tobacco, and there's just like a a slight touch of jasmine in it. It's stunning.
Jeff:It feels very like it goes so many because it does have that it's an amber for sure, and you get a lot of tobacco, a lot of leather, a lot of saffron. You get those hits of civet. The jasmine keeps it kind of, like, unisex to me, but it it feels a little bit like old school masculine a little bit too, like seventies.
Jane:It's it's very interesting because it's trying to be a vintage style perfume. And, you know, obviously, it doesn't have access to all of those materials that they were using back then, but damn if it doesn't feel exactly like that. And it it's incredibly refreshing in that respect, and I cannot believe what a value you get for $85. I I really recommend that you order a sample set. I've enjoyed so many of them.
Jane:Jasmine Antique was another one that I mentioned on our last show.
Jeff:Everybody kept recommending.
Jane:Which was incredible. Strong ass, Jeff.
Jeff:That is a strong as hell perfume.
Jane:Yeah. It's very strong.
Jeff:Yeah. We Not
Jane:too strong for Jeff.
Jeff:I love it. I wore it one night, like, of course, as per usual, Henry had, like, kind of a cold for a couple days, like an allergy thing, and I started getting a little bit of that allergy. And I wore it one night when I thought I wasn't experiencing anything like that anymore, and it was so strong that going to bed, it was kinda like, oh my god. It's like, can I can barely breathe because it's so close to me? It's so on top of me.
Jeff:But that being said, I would have just sprayed one less spritz. I think it would have been perfect because it's so gorgeous.
Jane:It's stunning. Yeah. If you're interested in those kind of vintage musky skanky fragrances, get into Der Viche by Rogue. I wore it a lot. You wore it too, so I know that we're both.
Jeff:Yeah. Darish's one, I think, is, like, it's on the want list.
Jane:Absolutely. Yeah. Okay. So other than that, haven't been wearing much, but Rising Sun. I also, in some instances, have worn let Leather?
Jane:Leather 67 by Saint Rose.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:Saint Rose. Sorry. I'm spacing. Saint Rose perfumes. This is a very big Jasmine.
Jeff:You love this.
Jane:Sometimes I hesitate to wear it because when you spray it, it comes on really, really loud, but it settles really nicely. And it's very, very complex. It feels like almost cosmic and mythical because it has these salty seaweed notes that are at least very, very strange to me. I don't wear a lot of, very aquatic perfumes, but then it combines that with, like, a lot of myrrh and a lot of vetiver, and it feels almost spiritual that way. And but then it's got this loud, loud Jasmine too.
Jane:It wears beautifully in 100 degree weather, which the list of perfumes that can rise to that occasion is is short, which is why I have a very few that I've been wearing.
Jeff:It's kinda like your Widow's Bay perfume.
Jane:My Widow's Bay? Oh, yeah. Widow's Bay vibes. Yeah. Creepy aquatic is aquatic.
Jeff:Yeah. But you have ever they kindly sent this to they sent us that, I think, a couple years ago. Yeah. And you have worn that consistently.
Jane:Only in really warm weather. It's it's the perfect Texas jazz.
Jeff:Yeah. That is your that's that's one of your summer favorites, I would say. Mhmm. For me, I also, have been wearing right away. I've been wearing Outer Realms, which they sent in the same package with with, Rising Sun.
Jeff:And, again, it's just a testament to this kinda, like, wild run we've been on where we've been buying and been gifted a handful of perfumes that
Jane:Getting gifts feels amazing.
Jeff:It feels amazing.
Jane:People feel very
Jeff:lucky. When they're, like, awesome. Yeah.
Jane:It's Nothing better than that, really.
Jeff:Wearing this in sacred ember, I feel like I should be wearing, like, tapes or something, you know, some kind of, like, robes every now and then. I feel very, like, you know, in my warlock phase. I don't know what it is, but I love both of them. But I've been wearing Outer Realms a lot just because it it has that kind of cedar you know, it's almost like a it's a very synthetic cedar that kind of, like, and and a lot of perfumes of that what I'm getting into when we're talking about, like, Palo Santo and and cedar and sandalwood perfumes that I'm wearing, they have this just, like, really electric staticky woody accord that goes on, and it has that. But then it also has like this really beautiful citrus top note, and I love that so much.
Jeff:And then it gets, you know, you get a little saffron, a little bit of pepperiness. It's just a really cool wear. It feels very much like the outer realms. It feels like I'm wearing something kind of esoteric or something.
Jane:I love the gasoline notes in it.
Jeff:Yeah. It just feels like it's, I feel I feel like I'm seeing lava and, like, the earth being created or something. I don't know what it is, but it's not smoky by any means. It's I mean, it has incense, but it's not, like, really heavy on that. It's just a really cool perfume.
Jane:There's something about right of way, their signature seems to be like a very deft touch and understanding of the weight of the perfume notes that they're Yeah. It's kind of incredible, the synchronicity between the three fragrances.
Jeff:Yeah. Because they are bringing in those kind of, like, oh, we're gonna you're gonna add in all these kind of, like, incense and and ritualistic and spiritual type of of notes and accords that are often, like, dialed up so heavy in other perfumes, and they just have a perfect balance. So it's really nice. Speaking, going into more Palo Santo, I don't know how the hell to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway. I'm sure I'm gonna get somebody to write in about it, but it's Abime.
Jeff:Abime. Abime. I think it's just Abime by Maison Violet.
Jane:For our audience.
Jeff:A b I m e by Maison Violet. It's Palo Santo. It's incense. It's sandalwood, so same kind of vibe. It's pretty oily and dense.
Jeff:You played it in the game a few episodes back, and it's just been kind of around my desk, and I'll just spray it on, and it just kinda, like, gets in my clothes, and it just feels so, like, buttery, woody. It's what I love about, like, really fresh cut cedar or really fresh like, when you get Palo Santo's sticks and you can still kinda see, the oil glistening on them, That texture is in this perfume. It just feels kind of rich and and luxe, but it's very simple. It's not trying to do anything spectacular. It's not trying to dazzle you.
Jeff:It's just much like their line. It delivers this very pleasurable, simple, just just package of what their perfume is that you just put it on, you pick the one that you you wanna wear their vanilla, you wear their vanilla and you get a vanilla experience. You wanna wear something that's more floral, you you know, you pick whatever perfume that is. This is their sandalwood, their Palo Santo, and it is exactly that and it's so good And everything's balanced perfectly. And then there was one night that I pulled out, and I can only wear it one night because our sample is down to, like, the last couple spritzes, was Fallen to Stars by Strangelove NYC.
Jeff:And I just put it on because I just like to wear one of those perfumes every now and then because they're just such a unique experience. And it's oud, of course, and it's an Indian oud, rosewood, pink pepper, and vanilla, which gives it this kind of like the pink pepper kind of brightens it up, and then the vanilla kind of smooths it out, And then this kind of skanky narcissist that's just running through there. But it feels like such a power perfume, and I wore it to bed, and it was just like I woke up with it, and it just it just feels like, damn. Strange Love can make some damn good perfumes. I know.
Jeff:There you go.
Jane:Was felt happy to be sleeping next to you when you wore that.
Jeff:Yeah. It's just it's so big. I don't that's another house where it's like, I know I want other ones, but I don't know what I would choose next. We have Lost Some Flowers, which is perfect, but it's like, where do you go next? Because I like Falling to Stars.
Jeff:I like Melt My Heart and I like Dead By Night, you know, it's like or Dead Of Night. Like, you could go even like the Fire Within. Fire Within's really, really good.
Jane:Yeah. I'm going to say, I like this one. Yeah. Fall into stars.

Jane:This is first brush. I like it. It feels a little bit vintage, a little bit aldehytic white florals, some very anabolic things in the base. Yeah. Like a lot of civet, leather.
Jane:Is there saffron?
Jeff:There is not saffron listed. Leather is listed in the base.
Jane:Yeah. It's very leathery. It's like a leathery white floral. I feel like this would go crazy on the skin. Yeah.
Jane:And I'm totally willing for you to spray it there.
Jeff:I think that I'm gonna warn you a little bit. I went a little heavy today. So I'm gonna say Alright. Don't do that so far.
Jane:We learned our lesson.
Jeff:Yeah. And we already have some some really amazing smells in this room right now from our earlier spritzes.
Jane:This is fantastic. I mean, now it's like the jasmine bomb. It's it's getting better and better. I love this. It's it feels like jasmine antique from rogue perfumery, which I've been wearing.
Jeff:Yeah. It it you know, this is definitely in that floral balm, especially white florals. I'll give you the like, the top notes are exotic flowers, so you know it's fancy. Jasmine, rose, orange blossoms, and then it goes into tuberose, ylang ylang, narcissist, and sandalwood. Okay.
Jeff:And then musk, amber, leather, and patchouli. Gorgeous. Yeah. Guess the
Jane:patchouli is pretty strong too.
Jeff:It smells amazing.
Jane:Yeah. I love this. This is exactly the kind of thing that I like. This this smells very indie, is it?
Jeff:No. It's it's a European house, I believe Italian, and it's 2015 is when this was made. The translation of the name is perfume of pleasure and joy.
Jane:Loves it.
Jeff:Yeah. And it is it smells so nice.
Jane:This is really, really good, and I would love to wear on the skin. I won't because of what you just said, but, yeah, I'm I wouldn't be surprised if if this is my pick of the night. It is stanky. It is glam.
Jeff:It feels glam. Right? Like, it's a it's a it's a night out perfume. This is a you're not wearing this to to the to the office or front.
Jane:The nightclub in the thirties.
Jeff:Yeah. It's It's this gorgeous. Really it's kinda got that powderiness to it.

Jane:Yeah. I I really like this. I would be surprised if anything tops this tonight. It's almost like, this is just very much in the realm of the skanky, animalic white florals that I love.

Jeff:This smells like a Christmas fruit cake on some level. I feel like there's, like, dates and dried fruits. There's a maple syrupiness to it. It's thick. This is definitely like a winter perfume for me.
Jeff:There's there's like some pine notes and some real nice green touches to it. It's really nice. I don't know if it's anything I would necessarily reach for, but I'm enjoying I have
Jane:that sprayed on the top of my hand and it's been there for three hours if you want to smell it.
Jeff:Yeah. I would like to I would like to smell it because it is there's a little pissiness to it too. Oh, that's real nice because on your skin, it smells there's a, like, a a little bit of a charred wood note.
Jane:Yeah. It wears it wears to something really nice.
Jeff:Yeah. It is very strong. The oil concentration looks pretty heavy because I'm looking at the little bladder strip that you gave me and it is like yellow. So you can tell where you sprayed it. Yeah.
Jeff:It's really, really good. This is the the again, like the oil concentration seems very high here. You are going to be this is it could potentially stain your clothes, but it is going to be on your clothes, probably through a wash or two. I don't know. I kinda like it now.
Jeff:It's what is the can you give me the note list?
Jane:Yes. Apricot preserve, blackberry jam, raw honey, propolis, beeswax. Sweet grass, hay bales, bran wheat, oat grains, bourbon vetiver, mate tea, and oak moss.
Jeff:Wow. Yeah. You're really getting the honey in those jams, but it smells so much like a just like a a really dense fruit bread that
Jane:It's very childhood memories with very intense baked baked goods notes and all of the honey.
Jeff:Yeah. It's almost like you wanna drink some, like, you know, some some mulled wine with it.
Jane:Yeah. And go on a hay bale ride
Jeff:Yeah.
Jane:In the in the late autumn.
Jeff:It's it's it smells like the weather I wanna be in right now, actually. Like, where it just feels like you need a little bit of a blanket with you and

Jane:Yeah. The bottles are cool.
Jeff:And it's Pacific Northwest. It feels very much like it feels like you are walking through a forest and you come across a, you know, Hansel and Gretel type

Jeff:Yeah. Or a town full of pumpkin people that are, you know, rising up and wearing they're they're just skeletons. Oh, it's getting real green, almost like celery green in Yeah. Some
Jane:think that's so true. I get a celery now.
Jeff:Yeah. It has a little bit of, like, not necessarily celery greens, but more like celery seed, like, when you're kind of, like, grinding them in a mortal and pestle. And Do you use a lot

Jeff:Not necessarily because it's so overwhelmingly aromatic.
Jane:Use it when I make that coleslaw that we love.

Jeff:Okay. Number two for you. I have just sprayed Jane's second perfume. You had to walk away, come back.
Jane:It's beautiful. And I have to say just straight off, this is Jeff and Jane Bate because this is a stunning incense perfume.
Jeff:It is. And
Jane:it's Soapy woods. Mhmm. Like, it's very bonfire, but also very spiritual, like, sweet resins without being overpowering. It feels like, yeah, a a bonfire in the woods in autumn. Is that where we're heading mentally?
Jane:I don't know. I I will say, like, this is so smoky naturalistic bonfire incense. Like, it's not something I would feel comfortable wearing everywhere. Is there anything floral going on here, or is it all straight kind of
Jeff:Well, I'll give you the note list, it's funny because I have a little bit of a different interpretation of it. It's similar, but not not entirely. I don't get as much smokiness, but the the note list is black pepper, gaik wood, hanoke, porcini, oak moss, vetiver, and benzoin.
Jane:Porcini. So there's not really any
Jeff:No. It's very wood and earthy and ambery.
Jane:I guess it's actually, like, now that I'm smelling it, it is cooling down a little bit.
Jeff:It feels very I get the vetiver and the hanoki, and it's very much in that kind of Palo Santo world that I'm kind of jumping into right now.
Jane:Yes. Yeah. The I mean, when I smell this, I'm like, oh, this must be Jeff jumping on his Palo Santo train.
Jeff:Yeah. It's it's not as buttery or dry as some of the other ones, but it's definitely has that kind of like the gaiak wood does give that kind of, like, incense y powdery.
Jane:How do you feel about this? Like, how much do you want this?
Jeff:I kinda love it.
Jane:Yeah. I I'm feeling like this is it could be something that really steals my heart because it seems just of an that you and I like a lot.
Jeff:I think that you would love buying this for the brand as well. Really? I think that is also something that when we smelled it two, three years ago, maybe even four years ago, probably four years, we would have originally smelled this sample in the old house when we were first doing the podcast.
Jane:Is it luck, Carrie?
Jeff:No. But it feels kinda like that.
Jane:It does feel like, yeah.

Jeff:But when I smelled it, I smelled it earlier in the week and I thought, oh, wow. I think I'm gonna put this in the game because I'm really loving this right now. And
Jane:I thought for sure, like, based on the copy, this would be like, you know, heterosexual cis gay man perfume. I mean, maybe it is. It's called
Jeff:daddy. Yeah.

Jane:Look how much we ruined our last game sample with, like, noida cellophane. It it tainted everything. So it could have been when we smelled daddy, it was just what we had been smelling before.
Jeff:Yeah. We were buying so many samples back then. But also, I'm kinda curious, like, when you live in a place like Texas, and a lot of times when you get something shipped here during the summer or whenever we would have ordered it, sometimes the weather's hot, sits in a box, it's been bouncing around in a truck. I don't know enough about composition and materials and things like that to know, but I wonder if, like, getting it fresh out of the box and spraying it right away, maybe it needed a little bit of environmental, you know, just like, it needs to settle a little bit because it's going from different climate to climate and all that
Jane:kind I of can see that.
Jeff:So, it smells really good. I really when I when I, again, tested it today to decide whether or not I wanna put it in the game, I was like, I kinda just wanna get it because it's like, one, big fan of the lion, and I always wanna root for lions like Courtney. So to have that and then also just be like, man, I love this, and it's it also being exactly what I kinda want with perfume right now, with where I'm kind of in my little phase, that it it would be one that I would reach for a lot, actually.
Jane:I support this.

Jeff:This is the kind of perfume we needed right now after pastoral and my geez. I've already forgotten my first one.

Jeff:It was kamasarabi. Okay. And then daddy because they're all in a very kind of, like, potent, but also this is very light. It feels very at first, it feels like Doctor Pepper. Like, you open a Doctor Pepper, you pour it, and then it has that kind of, like, sweet kind of spicy cola that's tickling your nose a little bit from the fizz.
Jeff:But now that it's settled down, it it reminds me a little bit of something like Phantom De Mal by Storis Googen. And I love this because you have just sprayed it. You off air, you said, I just threw this in the game. I've never smelled it. I just know that we love this house and thought I'd just throw it in the game.
Jeff:So, it's not often that we just kinda like wing it like that, where it's just like throwing it in, you didn't even know what you were getting into and it's pretty good. I'm enjoying Like, it's nice.
Jane:It's I was afraid it would be a bomb because it has No. It's real disgusting. Oud in it and it has oud in the name, so I thought it might be a dangerous thing to throw in, but it's actually very subtle.
Jeff:Yeah. It's it's actually even lighter. When you first sprayed it, I was getting so many top notes and like I said, kind of like a cola and some spices, some fruitiness. It's kinda tempered down. It feels a little bit kind of like a powdery lemony candy right now.
Jeff:There's some musk, kind of like a white musk that's keeping it. There's a little it's kind of a musky powder base. Could be maybe like a sandalwood, I guess. What would be the note list?
Jane:Oud, sandalwood, amber, vanilla, lavender, iris, and orange bitters. Orange bitters.
Jeff:Yeah. Wow. Okay. The lavender and the vanilla are making up what I'm thinking is kind of like that sweet powderiness. It's really nice.
Jeff:It's really easy. It it would be a very easy daytime wear.

Jeff:It's kind of like fading away. You might need to spray it again. I think that it's

Jane:Yeah. I can totally see what you mean, like, in the same kind of vein of Phantom De Mall. Like, this is I thought this would be an intense oud, especially because this house is kind of known for strong perfumes. This is playing very nicely.

Jane:can see I can see it becoming becoming addictive too because of its kind of subtlety.
Jeff:There's a lot of perfumes that we have in our collection that fit that same kind of mold where you wanna you're you're about to go somewhere. Maybe we're taking Henry to school or maybe we are, you know, gonna run to Walgreens or the coffee shop or something like that, where you wanna spray something on, but you don't want to walk into a tight, you know, an area where it's like people are gonna be like, damn, someone just sprayed some perfume in here. So you put on just kind of like an easy one, one that we wear a lot now because it's on the tray is Cologne So Drop by Metier Premiere. It's kind of in that realm. That, Phantom de Mal, trying to think of some other ones that I are
Jane:I just want
Jeff:Mellow Yellow.
Jane:Yeah. I I I
Jeff:agree completely. Astrophil and style.
Jane:Which makes it, like it's kind of a winner because it can kind of stand in that company. Yeah. But I also want to say these are some of the perfumes we find most wearable. You know, they work in any situation. This is a perfume with oud in the name.
Jane:It wears very lightly, but you smell like, for me, the oud is very, like, you sense it here.
Jeff:Yeah. You
Jane:Certainly an oud perfume without being overbearing the way oud can often be.
Jeff:Yeah. It's it's it's the the one thing that's adding, like, the the base to it, you know, like, the the the the bottom.
Jane:Man, this house just continues to impress me.
Jeff:It's really yeah. It okay. I'm starting to get a little bit of the there's a little ooze. I don't wanna say poopiness, but
Jane:It's subtle.
Jeff:It's subtle. It's subtle. So I I say that because I don't have a very extensive vocabulary. So especially when it comes to perfume, even though we have a perfume podcast that's been on for like three years. But it's definitely there's something there that's like, as it's settling down into the base, it's like, oh, there's a little bit of oud, but it's not I don't think anybody would
Jane:Clock you as like, oh my god, that guy's wearing oud.
Jeff:Yeah. Or I wouldn't clock it. If you were wearing this, I wouldn't be like, oh, she's wearing something with a lot of oud in it. Yeah. You know, as someone who smells a lot of oud perfumes, it's just it's really, well, subtle and balanced, like you were saying.

Jeff:It's a lot more woodier now, I guess, but it's still it's not it's more like a sandalwood than like a than a oud.
Jane:This is one I would feel like one of those perfumes where it's like, I feel like I could gift this to anyone and they would be happy, you know?

Jane:Very, very thick leather, kind of inky oak moss, like nose tickling saffron, patchouli. Is that in there?
Jeff:Yes. I will well, no, actually. We have morel mushroom,
Jane:decay Why are you into the mushrooms tonight?
Jeff:I know. Yeah. That is true. Perfumes. Have decayed rose, leather, tobacco, smoke, pine board, incense, sweet myrrh, blood cedar, dried needles, rotting wood, in parentheses, oud.
Jane:It smells vampiric. It smells like a horror novel.

So they're not they they there's a lot of people, like, will snatch them up real quick and then they're out of stock for a while, and then they do another batch because I think there's a lot of natural materials being used.

Jeff:It's kind of a combination of a lot of the houses and styles that we love into one perfume. Because it's got a little bit of surge. It's got a little bit of artiste. It's got a little bit of, like, papillon and heiress parfums. It's got a little bit of parfum, dempure.

Jeff:And it's settling down really nicely to where it's like, this is very wearable. This isn't you wouldn't feel like you were saying, you would feel confident. You wouldn't feel self conscious that it is kind of a loud screecher. It's really good. You This is

Jeff:Yeah. And I noticed that they were at the big scent fest in San Francisco recently, and everybody was excited. They seem like a very lovely person, so I would love to support that house, but this is very, very good. The the other one that I really like, the the whatever it is, the l'amme.
Jane:Yes.
Jeff:That is so good. That I'm I it's so addicting to me.
Jane:What's going on with it? I can't remember.
Jeff:It just feels, again, kind of like this, where it could be like a Roberto Greco. It could be probably more like some of the earlier archist where it's a little skanky, it's very floral, it's very old school vintage style, but there's just something like, I'm gonna say eyes rolling into the back of your head kind of vibe about Absolutely. And it's just like you just wanna just close your eyes and just smell it and be in it.
Jane:It's kind of operating on the level that, Strange Love does.
Jeff:Yeah. Or like some of the or some of the guitars from Amouage where it's just like, I just wanna live in this for a moment Mhmm. And not care about anything else. It's why I love perfume so much, this type of this is my favorite. Gonna say this will be my favorite.
Jeff:Yes. Because this house is making I haven't tried a lot of them. The the stranger the strangers one, like, when I look through the list of perfumes available for those, probably not there. I don't know what's going on with those. They're they're most of those, I don't really I'm not that interested in, but this line has some incredible perfumes.
Jeff:And I just I need to get one.
