What is Clydesdale Media Podcast?

We cover the sport of CrossFit from all angles. We talk with athletes, coaches and celebrities that compete and surround in the sport of CrossFit at all levels. We also bring you Breaking News, Human Interest Stories and report on the Methodology of CrossFit. We also use the methodology to make ourselves the fittest we can be.

So the question is,

is the Legends Championship becoming the

fire festival of CrossFit?

From the gym to the screen, yeah,

we cover it all.

Midday motivation every time you press

call.

Lunch with the Clydesdales.

Cowboy, bring the heat.

Crossfit, move it.

Music on repeat.

Half hour hustle, yeah,

we building that brand.

Grab a plate.

Tune in now, you part of the fam.

What is going on, everybody?

Welcome to Lunch with the Clydesdale.

Yes, I am riding solo today.

Corey's got, he's in the chat.

He is in the waiting room,

waiting on his wife.

And thoughts and prayers to him and the

family.

Hope all that goes well.

But you can wish him well in the

chat, as some of you already have.

it is draft day which i used to

get so so excited about um when my

team stunk and um and we picked in

the top ten but now the bears are

good and i don't even get to see

I pick until like number twenty five.

Gosh,

it's going to be eleven o'clock tonight

when that pick comes in.

And that's past my bedtime, people.

That's past my bedtime.

So but anyway, it's in Pittsburgh.

If you don't know,

I grew up just outside of Pittsburgh and

it's been fun watching all of the.

The media descend on Pittsburgh.

Pat McAfee show went to Kennywood Park

yesterday,

which was where we went all the time

as a kid with my family, with schools.

It was the little amusement park in

Pittsburgh.

I say little, but they had like five,

six roller coasters.

And it was really cool seeing them go

there and kind of check all that out.

So all of that to say,

today's going to be a quick show.

I have a one o'clock meeting.

So we're going to get right into the

news of the day.

We've been talking about Flow Elite all

week and how it is an option for

you to be able to watch Legends

Championship this week.

And Magic City the following week.

And now it's been announced they are going

to be covering the age group CrossFit

games in San Jose.

It's behind a paywall.

I checked the other day.

I think it's twenty nine dollars a month

to subscribe to it.

carolyn put in a question yesterday to the

people at legends and asked will

everything be streamed before i tell my

family to purchase this streaming service

for twenty nine dollars a month are they

even going to be able to see me

the response from legends was yes all

heats

all divisions will be streamed live.

Then last night, the CrossFit Network,

formerly the Savant Podcast, went live,

and Pool Boy's in the chat,

went live with Pool Boy,

and the response from that team was,

no way are we doing all heats,

all divisions.

So here we sit with two conflicting

stories as to whether or not all divisions

will be streamed.

And if you are the supporter of one

of those athletes and you're trying to

determine,

is it worth my thirty dollars to throw

down on Flow Elite for the month?

and not know the answer to that is

really, really frustrating.

And it's becoming,

it already was a shit show and it's

becoming more of a shit show.

In addition to that,

if you did not read in the CrossFit

Network News,

The barbell spin in an Instagram post on

Andrew Hiller's page hinted that Del Mar

competition floor has not arrived yet.

The barbell spin also reported that

legends championship would be on flow

elite.

And then last night,

what we just mentioned.

So where are we?

We,

one hand doesn't know what the other

hand's doing.

I'm now hearing they're running two

floors.

I don't know how physically possible it is

for one group to broadcast two separate

floors.

That doesn't even seem possible to me.

Yet the leadership from Legends is saying

it's going to be done.

What in the world are we even doing

here?

So Jenny says there are two floors.

Sivan story made me concerned.

I think it's safe to assume us advanced

masters won't be streamed.

Yeah, I don't know.

If you want to read more,

I got all this information from CrossFit

Network News, their website.

You can see the screen here.

This is where I got my information.

The Del Mar Fire Festival.

So go check that out.

I'm sure they'll be updating information

as they get it over the weekend.

um uh pool boy says community first okay

we've already talked about the programming

all week and how it's very one-dimensional

um i

I don't know if I would classify it

heavy or what,

but it is all power output.

It is a ton of machines.

It is a ton of barbell work.

And we've talked about that all week.

What I want to show you is a

complete contradiction to what they are

doing.

And at Magic City,

they released their workouts yesterday.

And all of theirs are past regionals games

workouts.

And so try to get rid of these

heads.

Why in the world do we have those?

That is frustrating.

Frustrating.

Anyway, the first one is Naughty Nancy.

It is a six-hundred-meter run,

twenty-five overhead squats.

I love Nancy.

Nancy's one of my favorite workouts of all

time.

We've got two,

but this is a named workout.

Naughty Nancy was used, I believe,

in the online games in twenty-twenty,

maybe.

or another qualifying event.

The male bar is one thirty five.

The female bar is ninety five.

Then they move on to semi Nate.

Corey and I actually talked about this.

The one the one

Beef with regional Nate was the strict

muscle-ups were hard to judge.

They took the strict out.

It's four ring muscle-ups,

three for the ladies,

seven strict handstand push-ups,

six for the ladies,

and twelve dumbbell snatch instead of

kettlebell swings,

which is normally innate.

The commute is fifty burpee box jump

overs, one and a half mile bicycle,

fifty burpee box jump overs.

Fun workout in bringing in a bike to

this.

I think that's really interesting.

and then we have the tie down this

is a long chipper hundred and fifty double

unders five rope climbs hundred and fifty

foot sandbag on the shoulder walking lunge

hundred double unders five rope climbs

hundred foot sandbag shoulder walking

lunge fifty double unders five rope climbs

and then a fifty foot shoulder sandbag

shoulder walking lunge the sandbags are

one hundred and seventy pounds

And then we have semi-Gwen.

We've already seen this, just like Mayhem.

And then regionals,

fourteen point seven reloaded,

sixty four pull ups, eight thrusters,

complete all out sprint to get to the

end.

What I love is there's a lot of

gymnastics components to this.

There's also some barbell work.

There's also some sandbags.

There's odd objects like a bicycle.

And what's cool is it's like when you

were in high school and homework was due

that day and you didn't get yours done.

And so you went over to your buddy

and said, Hey,

can I see your homework from last night?

And you copied it down,

but you made little tweaks and little

changes to make sure the teacher didn't

bust you for copying the workout.

What Magic City did is took famous,

awesome workouts, looked at them,

tweaked them to what they needed for this

competition,

and put them together in a way that

makes sense.

I thought the Mayhem programming started

us off on a really big high.

After I saw Legends,

I was worried to death.

But then I see magic city and I'm

like, dang, these guys get it.

You don't have to recreate the wheel.

You just have to put it in them

in a reorganized manner and maybe make

some tweaks to make it awesome.

And now I wish I could hop in

my car and head to Birmingham to watch

this live because I think these events are

really super freaking cool.

Um,

Larry says he has to teach Shelly how

to ride a bike this week.

Yeah, that, that is,

that's going to be an issue for a

lot of people.

I'm sure.

Um,

Shannon says legends compared to magic

city is a joke for my age group.

Him legends.

Shannon's age group does four workouts,

four workouts to go to the CrossFit games.

It's ridiculous.

Corey says, Shanna,

all divisions at Magic City get to do

all the workouts.

Can't say the same for Legends.

Turns out the bike we're using is the

same bike I have at home,

so the chances of me doing a workout

at in-person semis with a bike I already

have is apparently one hundred percent.

Yeah, I think it's awesome.

It's just a really cool concept of going

back and grabbing some of the best

workouts from CrossFit history,

tweaking them to what your competition

needs, make them fit for all age groups,

and let them go.

Best make it to the games.

It is freaking awesome.

cows and CrossFit.

I agree with you on the programming,

but is there too much of a shift

towards gymnastics?

I don't think so.

You've got some sandbag.

You've got Gwen with a barbell.

Let me look back through these real quick.

You have dumbbell snatches.

You have overhead squats.

But they're combined with other things,

like overhead squats with a run.

So it's who's well-rounded.

You've got semi-nate,

which is ring muscle-ups,

handstand push-ups, and a dumbbell snatch.

You've got the commute,

which is just an all-out,

long cardio workout.

Burpee box jump overs, bicycle.

Not gymnastics, but monostructural.

Mark Phillips,

I don't think it's too gymnastics heavy

personally.

I don't either.

I think it's balanced.

Gwen is all barbell all the time.

And regionals unloaded is pull-ups and

thrusters.

So you have thrusters and pull-ups.

you're getting both barbell movement and

gymnastics in the same workout.

You have one full monostructural,

you have one full barbell moving, Gwen,

and a lot of the other,

all the gymnastics are paired with a

barbell or a lift of some sort.

Mark Phillips is at it again,

gifted five Clydesdale Media memberships.

So five people at random in the chat

will get a membership to the Clydesdale

Media YouTube channel.

Thank you so much, Mark.

As always, you are the best.

Thank you so much for that.

John George, it's about time.

Why do gymnastics always have to be earned

through heavy barbells?

It's good that they're equal.

It's balanced.

I wouldn't say equal.

I'd say balanced.

It makes sense.

When you look at it, you're like, okay,

it's paired with this.

So if you are good with a barbell,

you have that part of the workout.

If you're good with gymnastics,

you have that part of the workout.

And if you're good at both,

you're going to the CrossFit Games.

I agree, George.

Nothing feels too heavy of a clean,

of a lean.

Nothing feels too heavy of a lean.

I thought the workouts were very good,

just making sure that I didn't think that

because Legends is so bad.

No,

I think if you put Magic City up

against Mayhem,

which we all have been lauding as great

programming and a great event last

weekend,

I think the Magic City workouts and the

Mayhem workouts look good together.

Like you can look at those two and

compare them and see that they were well

thought out.

Yeah, so I, you know,

I'm excited for Corey.

I'm excited that Corey gets to do these.

Shelly gets to do these.

It really,

I may see if I can get down

there to watch this.

I just know Birmingham is not cheap right

now, so...

Amanda says comments on the Magic City

Instagram post are all very good comments

toward the programming.

Again, right,

and they didn't reinvent the wheel.

Like we always talk about how like Rich

and JR and these people can program really

well.

Magic City didn't try to reinvent

anything.

They took stuff that already existed and

made it work for them and did it

in a way that makes sense.

It's that simple, people.

Mark Phillips is ten minutes from the

crossplex.

I'll be popping in at least one day.

Shannon,

it's so exciting as an athlete to have

good workouts.

Wish I was going.

This gets me fired up.

And more importantly,

I think Corey hits nail on the head.

They all look fun.

If it's fun for the athlete,

isn't it fun for the spectator?

The more fun we make this thing,

the more attention it gets,

the more eyeballs it gets,

and the more people enjoy the entire

thing.

Do you know what else I enjoy?

I enjoy getting a good night's sleep.

And the way I do that is using

Thirdsy.

And you can do it too and get

fifteen percent off your order at

Thirdsy.com backslash Jazzy.

That's Thirdsy.com backslash Jazzy or use

Jazzy at checkout and get fifteen percent

off your order.

Amanda says, Shanna,

I have to say I'm feeling grateful I

chose Magic City.

Amanda, I think you're right.

I think you picked the place to be.

I feel like the various podcasts just spew

negative shit about CrossFit.

not trying to spread negative stuff i'm

i'm trying to laud uh magic city and

i don't know if that's what you're saying

teresa i'm trying to give magic city props

for what they did john george really

wishes he could have accepted his invite i

think the barbell the

Burpee box jump overs will be decent to

watch who pushes it,

who plays it too safe.

Uh,

Daniel Arnson must not have listened

yesterday.

This is the most positive podcast in the

space.

I know,

I know I get negative at times because

I just want it to succeed so bad,

so bad.

Um,

And so I do go negative sometimes.

I also try to point out when it's

good and when it's really good.

And I think Mayhem was really good and

set a very high bar for the rest

of the season.

I think Magic City has followed suit and

done an incredible job for all age groups

at their Masters semifinal.

Ortega asked, is Magic City streamed?

It will be streamed on Flow Elite,

just like Legends this weekend.

I don't know who's actually physically

doing the broadcast.

It appears, and again,

I have no inside knowledge,

that Savan is doing Legends,

and it will appear on Flow Elite.

I do not know who's broadcasting Magic

City.

Amanda says,

I've been using Third Z for years and

was nervous to try salted caramel because

of old school progenics cocoon was so bad.

The salted caramel is so good.

And that is a limited time flavor.

So if you like it,

now is the time to get it.

There's no guarantee it's coming back.

Constructive criticism and negative are

two different things.

You are not negative,

but also negative isn't always bad.

If something is bad,

you got to call it out.

Daniel, when I go negative, I really,

really try to have a solution in mind

so that I'm not just hating on something,

that I'm trying to find a way for

it to be better.

But sometimes that's even tough.

Yes, Grant,

there are a hundred burpee box jump overs

somewhere.

That Magic City.

Amanda says, except at Magic City,

we aren't competing for the streaming with

the indies like Legends, unfortunately,

is.

Grant, the Magic City,

don't you follow this sport?

Magic City is in Birmingham, Alabama.

Not this weekend,

but the following weekend.

Grant couldn't beat anybody at Magic City.

Oh, that's right, Daniel.

Grant only follows Hiller, only Hiller.

And I'm blessed that he made my chat.

He made it to my chat.

So I feel honored to be Hiller adjacent

for Grant today.

Hiller is really going after the PED use

in the Masters division.

I don't know if you saw his latest

post, but wow.

He is hitting that hard right now.

Jay Birch says, Grant, get off my lawn.

Yeah,

Jay Burch is part of my scream at

the clouds, get off my lawn club.

Of course, he is.

That one guy looks like he walks through

every door sideways.

Yeah.

I truly feel like programming like Legends

is what has promoted more and more PED

use.

It was always going to be in the

sport.

People are always trying to figure it out.

But when everything is about how powerful

you can be and how much you can

lift,

it just promotes more and more and more

PED use.

And why it makes me so mad is

my two best friends, Carolyn and Jamie...

are struggling to... Well,

Carolyn is a freaking phenom.

And Jamie is awesome.

But she's so tiny to try to go

up against these.

If you watched her at the games,

she was so tiny.

And these big,

unnatural women were surrounding her.

And she's having to compete with them for

three days over nine events.

It takes its toll.

And it's hard to watch.

It's hard to watch when people that you

love are out there on the floor giving

their all against these crazy,

crazy freaks that have taken whatever they

could to get strong and somewhat fit.

And the crazy thing is Jamie beats most

of them.

There's one she didn't beat,

and Grant is naming it.

But it's really frustrating.

Did you guys watch Girls Unfiltered?

The only thing I want to highlight on

that is Emma Lawson talked about the five

K run at mayhem.

And within thirty eight seconds,

her heart rate had spiked to like one

hundred and eighty five beats a minute.

And her average was in the one nineties

for that run up that hill.

That is crazy.

That is crazy.

Coming off of doctor's orders to keep my

heart rate low while I was in this

AFib and then seeing what her heart rate

was.

And she held her phone up with the

chart and it was all in zone five.

All of it was in zone five.

Train Olive said that was my heart rate

just watching them do it.

The other funny thing that Emma had talked

about was when Rich said they maybe needed

gloves or T-shirt,

she thought that they might run too fast

and fall and that that was to catch

themselves when they fell.

And then if you watch the beginning of

the five K, Emma fell.

She stumbled.

Let's say stumbled.

We didn't fall.

She stumbled and caught herself.

But I just thought that that was pretty

ironic that she thought that they may fall

and that's why they needed gloves.

And then she was the one that stumbled

at the start of that race.

But she said that the steepness of the

hill was like this.

Larry says, Scott,

there are strong people not on anything.

It's kind of bad to assume all masters

are cheating.

I'm sure a few are on TRT,

but tons of strong people are not.

Larry,

I'm not accusing all strong people of

being on TRT.

And I know that there are masters people

that do it right.

I have been to the games with them

in the back.

I am telling you,

there are a good number of people using

something to get to where they are.

I've been around sports way too long.

Way too long.

And in twenty twenty four,

a lot of them got busted.

A lot of them got busted.

I know there's a lot of strong people

that don't do that.

But I'm telling you,

back in the warm-up area in twenty

twenty-four, hanging out with them,

there were people using.

It is just a fact.

And there were women that were completely

unnatural.

And I'm not one of these internet trolls

that say to every CrossFitter around the

world that you're on something.

I don't believe that.

But there were women back there that were

completely and utterly unnatural.

Those people would have been strong young.

You do not get suddenly strong, ripped,

and jacked in your fifties.

It's obvious.

Just look at Masters versus Games

athletes.

Masters guys are more jacked than not.

It's a problem when the old people are

way bigger than the peak age athletes.

And I do think it's a problem.

And there is no testing other than at

the games.

And that's why so many Masters athletes

pop for stuff at the games.

Because there is no test until you get

there.

It's going to be interesting to see what

they do this weekend at Legends and next

week at Magic City where they are

in-person semis.

Are they going to test them knowing they

have a spot at the games?

Shanna,

I don't think people understand how easy

it is to spot until you are our

age.

Physiology is physiology.

Hard to maintain muscle with little to no

hormones,

which is what happens as you age.

There should be options you can add to

your open registration,

in-person semifinal event, support,

five dollars, masters testing,

five dollars.

I don't think we're ever going to get

to that because I, honestly,

I don't think sports organizations,

this is not a CrossFit thing,

this is sports in general,

do not want their athletes to test

positive.

And Scott,

as long as your T does not come

back too high,

they don't test for exogenous

testosterone.

So you can lower your dose three weeks

before to come in normal range.

So if you have questions on how to

use TRT,

go to Grant at Kipping It Real CrossFit

on IG.

Just DM him.

He'll give you all the instructions and

the half-life of all your products.

Shelly just PR three, fifteen squat,

but just looks like every other grandma.

I am not accusing Shelly Larry at all.

I am telling everybody says Andrea Pinero.

Look at that woman.

That is not natural.

It's not.

She's so much bigger than every other

person in her age group.

Grant is now saying he doesn't want to

help anybody.

Sorry.

I agree with that,

but I can tell you in two thousand

seventeen on a team, we were tested.

um, OFC after regionals,

but also every day at the games,

they randomly called people up to be

tested at the end of the day.

Amanda,

I agree with you on the elite side.

They are testing people at the games and

they are testing people when you qualify

at regional semifinals,

but

If you know when those tests are coming

and you know the half-life of the drugs

you are taking, you can beat those tests.

It doesn't even take complex math.

CrossFit, it's not even size.

It's the muscle mass to adipose tissue

ratio on some of these athletes.

Clock cutter,

are we getting any CrossFit network

coverage of Del Mar?

I'm not seeing anything posted.

I believe,

and I do not know this for a

fact,

But from what I understand,

they are the ones doing the Flow Elite

broadcast.

So you're going to have to subscribe to

Flow Elite to see the coverage in Del

Mar.

Unfortunately,

random is probably expensive.

Only way to truly catch them.

Right.

But even the NFL doesn't test in the

offseason.

If you listen to Pat McAfee,

everybody knew.

Everybody knew when you had to quit.

Am I the only one not stoked about

this Flow Elite thing?

I don't think anybody's stoked.

There is bad PTSD from Flow Elite in

the two thousand teens and Wadapalooza and

the horrible coverage we got for a very

steep price in my opinion.

But I'm going to buy it because I

want to support my people and I need

to watch it to cover the sport.

So

I'm stuck.

What else do we do?

Pat got tested for leveling.

One of the best hits by a punter

ever.

Yeah.

Yeah.

uh larry young i'm stupid i guess i

don't see hillar really any stronger just

don't think it's worth it i think that

is one data point yes and it was

really hard to cancel cross fat you are

correct i got billed for flow elite longer

than i wanted to because it was not

easy to cancel hopefully that has changed

It's been almost ten years,

eight years since Waterpalooza time.

Hopefully it's different now.

But Larry,

these guys are probably blasting two or

three times as much while training three

times as much.

Is it still a separate fee for every

sport?

I think, I don't know.

I haven't signed up yet.

I was waiting till last minute so that

I could get the month as long as

I could in case somebody else went with

them.

Because I think NorCal is now.

I'm trying to get them all into the

same time frame because I don't want to

pay for more than a month.

But it looks like I'm probably going to.

Imagine all these poor old people in

masters that have to ask their kids to

sign up and cancel it.

Yeah.

All right, guys,

I have a meeting in five minutes,

so I'm going to head off to that.

Don't forget to like and subscribe to the

channel.

And if you've not watched the Hattie Cano

behind the scenes of the games,

all the episodes are live.

All of them are on the YouTube channel.

Go check it out while you're waiting for

Flow Elite to boot up.

You can watch a couple of those episodes.

They're each fifteen minutes to twenty

minutes long.

Super quick watch.

Have a great day, everybody.

We will see everybody soon.

From the gym to the spring, yeah,

we cover it all.
