The show's rich history is marked by its association with several prominent local figures. Notably, Dennis Egan, a former mayor of Juneau, was a key personality in shaping the show's direction in the 1980s.
As a testament to its enduring relevance and appeal, "Problem Corner" has etched its name in the annals of Alaskan broadcasting history. It's not just a radio show but a cultural landmark, celebrated for being the longest-running radio show in Alaska.
Welcome to problem corner, Alaska's longest running radio show. Connect and discuss the topics important to Juneau and all of Southeast Alaska. Call (907) 586-1800, and subscribe to the podcast at kinyradio.com, powered by Alaska Laundry and Dry Cleaning.
Speaker 2:And good morning, Juno. K I n y ninety four point nine FM and Always eight hundred. It is Wednesday problem corner, and I'm Jess Miller hanging out y'all from the Gold Belt Tram studio. Hope you're gearing up for a decent Wednesday. And, yeah, we're gonna start the phones up.
Speaker 2:(907) 586-1800 if you guys got something you wanna say, sell, or get something off your chest. I thought I would start the program off about giving some resources for our folks up north that have been hit by the typhoon disaster and all the small communities up there. I was looking at Alaska Housing Finance Corporation actually had some links that you could go to help. So if you wanna help out, you could go on that website and find some resources. Or if you're someone that is in need of help from that, you could also swing on over there.
Speaker 2:We also got a call, so let's jump right to it. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air. Yeah.
Speaker 3:Good morning, Problem Corner.
Speaker 2:Good morning. How are you doing today?
Speaker 3:Not too bad. I got some comic for
Speaker 4:a whole collection
Speaker 3:in my storage. Probably about 20 pounds, a lot of additions, a lot of them in The Philippines, never been open. I'm selling the whole collection for 500 today on one time deal.
Speaker 5:$5.19
Speaker 3:90 black Chicago Bulls City original starter official license on eBay quotes for $1.85 and phone $50. And some other things, address number, 9074195222.
Speaker 2:Alrighty. Can you repeat that first item that you were trying to sell out? You said 20 pounds of something. I kinda missed that last bit there.
Speaker 3:A lot of good comments in the cellophane. Good mix. Two carbon bowl starter hoodies, black, red, especially white. Really good condition. Give me a call
Speaker 4:if we own the deal.
Speaker 2:Alrighty. I will shout that out over the airwaves. So you're asking about oh, I lost you. So he was asking about, I think, $500 for the amount of comics that he had. He also had Chicago Bulls merch.
Speaker 2:And so, yeah, if you're interested in any of those items, give them a call at (907) 419-5262. And before I took that call, was talking about some things that you could do to help our folks up north that got hit with that typhoon. The website that I was going to was Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, ahfc.us, and you could go to their newsroom there, could get some links to kind of help. So they have the Western Alaska Disaster Relief Fund going on. There's a link that you could click on there.
Speaker 2:And then you can also purchase items for donation online as well. There's a link given there. And then they had a link for folks that do need assistance that were affected by that. So if you have folks that have not yet received some help, then definitely direct them over there. I also saw an article that Amazon is helping out those folks in those communities.
Speaker 2:So they're supporting. They actually sent a Amazon flight up there on the October 19. So they're providing supplies and helping kind of collaborate with Red Cross with that. So that's great that other big corporations are kind of jumping in and helping our neighbors up north with that big disaster. And if you have family, friends, or anything like that, feel free to give me a call and we could kind of try to send some messages out to them, or I could give you those links to kinda help them out.
Speaker 2:Looking at some emails, let's go take a peek at our emails today. All right. We got an email from Steven who's got a free queen-size mattress, has no rips or holes, does have a stain on the edge, is free if you haul. It's in Lemon Creek, must be gone today. I believe that person called yesterday with that bed.
Speaker 2:So, let's try to get that mattress off their hands. If you're interested in that queen mattress, give them a call at (907) 723-7199. Alright. Let's see here. We got another email from Shelly that they were walking last night and saw a big black bear nosing around the culvert across the old Prospector Hotel on the beach side.
Speaker 2:I know there are unhoused people living in the culvert. Does anyone ever check up on them? I know JPD was kinda doing rounds around there. Like, I know they don't want them sleeping in a culvert, so that's kinda the inspections that they're doing. But as far as their well-being, I have not heard much of an update as far as people making sure they're okay.
Speaker 2:Bears aren't messing with them or anything like that. But hopefully, there's more than just one person hanging around that area if there was a bear. So we all know with black bears, you're better off in numbers and kinda scare the bear off. And yeah, black bears are more scared of you, obviously, but if they're hungry or they're a mama, yeah, you have you do have that kinda chance that they could flip on you, warn you off, or some something like that. So, yeah, I do not have an update on if those folks are doing all right, that do hang out over in that culvert area, but I know GPD does do rounds and they check up on those folks, making sure they're doing all right.
Speaker 2:And then another email I got, I've mentioned this one on the program here before with Fairweather Barn. They have their Halloween carnival going on. I think that's kicking off this Saturday from one to 4PM. If you don't know where Fairweather Barn is, it's down on Industrial Boulevard at 10013 Crazy Horse Drive. There's gonna be a lot of fun to be had.
Speaker 2:So definitely swing on over there, get candy, hang out, say hi to the animals and the horses. So a lot of fun to be had. Definitely check that out. So again, this Friday here on KI and Y, we're gonna be tag teaming with the Rotary Clubs, Galicia Valley Rotary for their end of polio event. So definitely tune in this Friday for that, and we're also we're gonna be giving away some things.
Speaker 2:So check that out definitely this Friday. One thing that kinda definitely struck hard for me with the typhoons up north, I know it's like, it's the homes and destruction. Like, obviously a lot of those folks depend on subsistency and like, obviously they lost all their food storage with the flooding happening. And yeah, let's try to help our folks up north and hop online, see if there's ways to donate. And the scary thing is that the animal, know we did a story with News of the North and they also did an article on it about the animals being rescued from that.
Speaker 2:And yeah, that's also, it's just a terrible situation to think, to kind of put yourself in. I can't imagine being in their shoes, being home, and all of a sudden this massive storm just comes in and takes out my town. And then we got our animals and our family members, elders, kids. It's gotta be a scary experience. So let's really try to rally behind our neighbors up north and see how much we can help them.
Speaker 2:A lot of folks are already rallying behind. Like I said, Amazon's kind of tag teaming on that. Red Cross is doing that. Alaska Housing Finance Corporation's helping out by providing some services and trying to get these folks. But it's just crazy that they're gonna have to stay out of their towns for a little over a year.
Speaker 2:They were kind of quoting it about eighteen months that they could return back home. So that is, that's crazy. And that's a long time to be away from your home. But I just hope that they're in good situations and they're being looked after and they're with friends, family. I know with family, especially in Alaska, you have, we have family spread all across the state.
Speaker 2:So hopefully they have friends or someone that could house them and just get them going and get them safe and comfortable before they could return home. Another thing I was looking at is, I know that we had these folks come on Capitol chat this morning. The Douglas fourth of July committee is doing their ghost walk, and that seems like a lot of fun. So a lot of events to be had, a lot of fun for this Halloween season. And yeah, just go to our website.
Speaker 2:You could check out that article, or you could go check out the episode on your favorite streaming platform. As always, Problem Corner is recorded, and I do try my best to keep those updated. So if you ever miss an episode, a segment, definitely just swing on over to kynyradio.com, or you could go to your favorite streaming platform, type in Problem Corner, and most of the episodes will be up there. If you wanna catch up on some of our September episodes and our October episodes, definitely check those out. Phone lines are open, folks.
Speaker 2:Whatever you guys wanna call in about, get off your chest, say, sell, definitely give me a call. (907) 586-1800, or you can shoot me an email over at k I n y radio dot com. Just click on that contact us tab. And it doesn't matter if you do contact us or problem corner. It all ends up in the same place, and I'll see it here on my email.

Speaker 2:And welcome back to problem corner here on KINY. I'm Jess Miller hanging out y'all from the Gobel Tramp studio. And it is Wednesday, October 22. I forgot what day it is. That's already Wow.
Speaker 2:October has also been flying by. I just feel like this fall, like it was just August not that long ago. Now we're already on October and then Thanksgiving is around the corner. But as we are creeping towards November, I totally forgot, it is a letter of gratitude time. So celebrate Doctor.
Speaker 2:Walter Sobolev's legacy with a letter of gratitude that happens every year during the month of November. And you could swing by the Douglas City Museum. They'll give you free note cards, US postage, and insert honoring the late Doctor. Walter Sobelof to individuals interested in writing letters of encouragement and gratitude. Speaker 2:And that's going to be happening all month long for November. Looking at some Halloween events across town, I saw this on Community Collective, and it was very neatly compiled. We got the Treadwell Arena, the Halloween skate going on the twenty fourth, so that's happening Friday. And free. That's happening from 7PM to 08:30PM.
Speaker 2:So swing on over to Treadball Arena for the Halloween skate. Totally free to join in on that. And then we also have the ghost walk, which I mentioned earlier, the zombie walk, all age walks, and then concert and contest, which is 21 years older and up. And we do got a call. Let's jump right to it.
Speaker 2:Hi, welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 13:Hello. Good morning. I would like to wish my son, Bry Allen Bradley, a happy thirteenth birthday and Kate here.
Speaker 2:Awesome. Big happy birthday. Big 14. Or you said '14, right?
Speaker 13:'13. '13. Yeah.
Speaker 2:'13. He's officially a teenager now.
Speaker 4:How does
Speaker 2:that make you feel?
Speaker 13:Pretty sad about it, but, know, he's growing into such a great young man. So I'm pretty proud.
Speaker 2:Love to hear that. And is there something that Bri is really into, like a hobby or something like that?
Speaker 13:He's really into basketball these days.
Speaker 2:Awesome.
Speaker 13:And he ran cross country. He's got a lot of family and friends around Southeast. So I thought I'd wish him a happy birthday online.
Speaker 2:Oh, great. Well, I'll shout out a couple more birthday shout outs for Bri here on the program and I hope he has a great birthday.
Speaker 14:Wonderful. Thank you so much.
Speaker 2:No problem. Thanks for the call.
Speaker 13:Thank you.
Speaker 2:All right. Bye bye. Happy birthday, Brybig13. You're officially a teenager now. So hope you have a great day.
Speaker 2:Go shoot some hoops with your buddies. Go, if you know Bry Bradley, definitely shoot him a message or just wish him happy birthday when you see him. Yesterday, I got a good amount of calls, so I might go back and kind of echo out some of the calls that we had yesterday for stuff being sold. So we had our gentleman over in Haines, Mikey, who is offering house sitting and dog sitting services over in Haines. He does need a good heads up as far as what your dates are and when you're planning to leave.
Speaker 2:And he does need a ride to and from your property. He has been dealing with chemotherapy. So he does need some extra clothes as well. So if you're willing to help Mikey out, he needs size thirty pants and XL shirts. If you need the house sitting dog sitting services or if you got some clothes that you're willing to donate to him, give him a call at (907) 500-2611.
Speaker 2:And then we had the gentleman with 2 silver dollars from 1920. If you're a heavy coin collector or you know the price for those, give them a call at (907) 957-3341. Then we have the lady with the gel nail polish. Pretty brand new with the heating lamp or the solidifying lamp. I don't really know the exact terminology for that.
Speaker 2:Also, nail file asking $30 for that. If you're interested in the nail supplies, give them a call at (907) 209-0034. And I do got another call. Let's jump right to it. Hi.
Speaker 2:Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 15:Good morning. Had an antique oak large oak desk for sale. It's probably over a 100 years old. It's been completely refurbished, and it looks like brand new almost. It measures three by five feet.
Speaker 15:The drawers are very, very deep. They're over two feet deep. It has a file drawer that'll accommodate regular and legal files. And included with it is a antique oak captain's chair that came from the customs office in Sitka. And this desk, I was told, was Zach Gordon's desk when he was using it.
Speaker 16:Oh, wow.
Speaker 15:Yeah. I mean, it's really a treasure. It's probably last another hundred years if you take any decent care of it. And it is priced on eBay, the exact same desk at over $1,700. And I am just asking $350 for the whole package.
Speaker 2:Awesome. That includes an old captain chair and refurbished desk itself. So the chair and And
Speaker 15:and there's also two there's an in out antique oak box, you know, when you used to put the papers on the desk in a little box to go in and out.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 15:And and that also will go with the desk. And my number is 780-6664. 666. I cannot move it myself, but I do have a truck. So if somebody needs to transport it, we can use my truck to move it.
Speaker 2:Alrighty. I will shout that out over to Airwaves and see if we could get that desk off your hands.
Speaker 15:Alright. Thank you very much.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Thanks for the call. That seems quite to find an antique oak desk, supposedly Zach Gordon's desk, which is pretty awesome. It's refurbished three by five lane or in size, deep drawers, file drawers, got a oak captain chair that comes with it as well as an oak box asking $350 for that. If you're interested in that, give them a call at (907) 780-6664.
Speaker 2:And we got another call. Let's jump to it. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 14:Hi. Good morning.
Speaker 2:Good morning.
Speaker 13:I'm the one that had the gel polish Yeah.
Speaker 16:Right. Mhmm.
Speaker 13:I sold it.
Speaker 2:You sold it? Oh, okay. Good deal.
Speaker 13:Yeah. She came immediately after work, so that's great.
Speaker 2:Awesome.
Speaker 14:I'm waiting to hear for her.
Speaker 13:I added some more stuff to it. But, anyways, I have a queen-size, mattress for sale. I also have a microwave. Everything that we didn't sell at our garage sale, I still have, and we just really need to get rid of it. And it would be an indoor garage sale at any time until Thursday.
Speaker 13:Okay. Anytime. Because we both have to go back to work.
Speaker 2:Till Thursday. Okay. So queen mattress, microwave, and some extra items that you weren't able to get rid of during your garage sales.
Speaker 13:We also have dressers. We have shelving. We have we have household goods, and we are very negotiable.
Speaker 2:Awesome. Good to hear. So
Speaker 13:And I might have
Speaker 14:some fry bread for them when they come by.
Speaker 2:Perfect. Alrighty. Remind me your number again. Should I should
Speaker 13:have your 9 number 0907. 209.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 13:My wife forgot it.
Speaker 14:(907) 209-0034.
Speaker 2:0034. Perfect. I got that written down, and I'll see if we could get those items off your hands.
Speaker 14:Okay. Thank you so much.
Speaker 2:No problem. Always good to hear from
Speaker 13:you. Thanks.
Speaker 2:Alrighty. You have a good one. Alrighty. So queen mattress, microwave, dresser, a lot of household goods, extra items. They need it gone till or they need it gone, and then they go back to work on Thursday.
Speaker 2:So you have today, maybe a little bit tomorrow to get some of that stuff. They're pretty flexible on the price. The number to call, (907) 209-0034. Queen No new emails yet so far. So I'll go back in our stuff that we've gotten a call for.
Speaker 2:So first call, we had our good buddy calling in with his comics. He's also had Chicago Bulls merch. He's got a good amount of comics. He's asking, I think he was, like, estimating around 500 to get a bunch of those comics. Again, the number to call is (907) 419-5262.
Speaker 2:And then big old happy birthday to Bry Bradley turning 13 today over in Cake. And we got another call. Let's jump right to it. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner.
Speaker 2:You're live and on the air.
Speaker 17:Yeah. I was just calling to check if anybody had any information on what it became of that petition to try
Speaker 16:and restore the dividend to what it was before. And I'll listen on the
Speaker 17:radio if anybody's got any information on that. Have a great day.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Appreciate that. I'll look into that as well. Alright. So I was looking for information about petition on the PFD price changes or, like, try to get it back to the original amount.
Speaker 2:So if you have a little more information before I get researched and give me a call at (907) 586-1800. Alright. Where would I leave off? Oh, yes. We had that antique oak desk refurbished three by five, deep drawers, has an oak captain chair asking $350.
Speaker 2:Does have a truck to help you haul it, or if you got your own rig, that's even better. You could give them a call at (907) 780-6664. And then we had our good friend Rhonda calling in with queen mattress, microwave, dresser, household goods. (907) 209-0034. But, yeah, I did not have any information on a petition for the PFD.
Speaker 2:Maybe I could do some research here, but yeah, give me a call if you could beat me to it and we'll talk about it here on the airwaves. Another thing we're kind of talking about within News of the North was obviously, don't want to go too deep into it, but with the government shutdown, it is affecting some of our workers here in Alaska. And yeah, it's tough. You could kinda read the article over on News of the North. Just go to kinyradio.com, and you could read that article and see a little bit more on how it could be affecting us.
Speaker 2:But we do have another call. Let's jump right to it. Hi. Welcome to problem corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 18:Oh, good morning.
Speaker 2:Good morning. How are you doing?
Speaker 18:I would I would just like to say for bringing problem corner back.
Speaker 4:Oh, I
Speaker 2:appreciate that.
Speaker 18:It's kinda nice hearing buy, sell and trade things all through the program. Before we'd have a lot of conversations on there and it'd go on for like fifteen, twenty minutes, somebody talked for ten, twenty minutes. But it's kinda nice listening to it now. So Oh,
Speaker 2:good deal. I'm glad to hear that. Yeah.
Speaker 18:This is from Wassup.
Speaker 2:Wassup, all the I haven't heard from
Speaker 3:you in
Speaker 5:a while. Okay.
Speaker 18:Thank you.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Thanks for calling. I always appreciate those comments. Yeah. It's always fun to Yeah.
Speaker 2:When I'm When I was asked to jump into the problem corner world, I was very I wasn't worried, but I was definitely nervous just because of the legacy of this program and how much is important to our community and outlining communities. And I love hearing folks when they call in from Cake and Goon, Hanes. I love to hear from you. I've only had that call from Mikey up in Haines. I think that was the only call from Haines I've had in a while.
Speaker 2:So I'd love to hear from other outlying communities, Angoon, Huna, CAKE, Haines, Skagway. Maybe I was kind of talking with our boss man, and maybe I could try to bring on some, like have like a quick, short update from each kind of community, whether it be the mayor or someone, a city official or town official, and just kind of give me an update on stuff that could be going on in those different communities, like issues that they are facing and how maybe Juneau could help or just bring more awareness to issues in those communities. I know we had a caller the other day or last week about Anne Goone and how she was helping homelessness out in that community and just showing compassion, just pretty much pushing compassion and now reaching that hand. And that's a huge thing that we've always kind of hammered here on Problem Corners, like help those folks that need the help and whether or not they're asking for it, if you can visibly see that they are struggling, just try it, just outreach that hand, see if they need some help and go take small steps before you try to lunge into the life and truly flip it upside down.
Speaker 2:But we do have another call. Let's jump right to it. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 16:Yes. I'm also affected by this government shutdown mainly because I'm on disability. Mhmm. And my disability is being cut. I'm getting less than half of what I used to get, because, my pay is is trying to conserve it because you just don't know how long this government shutdown is going to last.
Speaker 16:Right. And I before the government shutdown, I heard that the buses were gonna be stopped selling bus tokens. And I thought, I'm gonna get a souvenir, you know, have it as a bygone era, and I'll probably pass it down to my grandnieces or grandnephews. But I just can't afford to keep I need to sell them. Mhmm.
Speaker 16:I don't know who can offer me the best price, but I have 21 bus tokens. They're bound to become collector's items now that they're they're just continuing printing the Mussocon family. So I'm hoping to get the best price I could I can get because I can't survive on this less than half of my disability.
Speaker 2:Right. And I'm and I'm very sorry that's affecting as far as the your disability as checks are coming in. And, yeah, I really hope that there's some sort of decision made and this gets ironed out as soon as possible just so you're not stressing as tough because obviously you're not the only one affected with that. Other folks that use disability are getting affected by it. Yeah.
Speaker 2:So
Speaker 16:Yeah. Also, it's really pretty painful. It's that my grand nephew had a job here. It was like his dream job, but they weren't paying him enough money to to rent an apartment apartment so sky high. Mhmm.
Speaker 16:So he ended up losing his job because he refused to live at the Glory Hall, because, unfortunately, there's a lot of thieves there. You really can't have anything nice there Right. Without somebody stealing it. But as soon as he set it down sometimes. So he was living outdoors, and he's moving back to North Carolina.
Speaker 16:And I'm pretty distraught because I'm elderly. I'm disabled, and I I always count on my grand nephew to get me out of the apartment, take me out on a walk
Speaker 2:Mhmm.
Speaker 16:You know, get me somewhere to seize my eyes and ears. I have cataracts, and I lost a lot of my hearing because I used to work seafood processing, they didn't have the kind of regulations they have now where you have to wear ear hearing
Speaker 2:protection Okay.
Speaker 16:When I was young going to college. So I don't know if anybody's ever worked around the iron chimps, but those things are so loud that they I lost a lot of my hearing, so I can barely see. I have arthritis. And so I really depended on my grand nephew getting me out of the house and keeping me safe, making sure I don't get run over by these crazy drivers. Mhmm.
Speaker 16:And, anyhow, his name is Robert Jared, j a r e d, Lewis, l e w I s. And he's gonna be end of going back to North Carolina with barely a penny to his name because yeah. So I hope if anybody out there, I need to start a GoFundMe account for him because it's gonna be terrible for him to go back to his hometown.
Speaker 2:Yeah. It's definitely tough.
Speaker 16:Carolinas without a single penny, but his name is Robert Jared Lewis. His his bank is Global USA.
Speaker 2:Mhmm.
Speaker 16:And, god, I'm sorry. I'm getting all choked up.
Speaker 2:I know. I'm I'm sorry to hear that, mister. Folks that might be able to help you out or even I know you're trying to see if we could get some money off those bus tokens, but maybe someone that's willing to help you set up that GoFundMe or get in like try to help your nephew out. What's a good phone number for you?
Speaker 16:Grand nephew.
Speaker 2:Grand nephew.
Speaker 16:907 Mhmm. 500 7369.
Speaker 2:736 My
Speaker 16:grand nephew's phone number is 907 Okay. 419-2755.
Speaker 2:2755. Alrighty. Well, mister, I got another call coming in, but I'll shout that
Speaker 16:My phone number is a message phone.
Speaker 2:Okay, it gets text messages, it doesn't call? Okay.
Speaker 16:You have to ask the people at the front desk, clerks to write down your phone number, your name and phone number.
Speaker 2:Perfect. Alrighty. Will get that out on the airways. I appreciate your call.
Speaker 16:Thank you.
Speaker 2:Thank you.
Speaker 16:21
Speaker 2:21 I got that written down.
Speaker 16:Okay.
Speaker 2:Alrighty, mister. You have a good rest of your Wednesday and I hope you're doing all right.
Speaker 16:All right.
Speaker 2:Okay. Bye bye. And we'll get to that next call. Oh, I lost the call. Give me a callback.
Speaker 2:I'll get you on the program. All right. I did get a couple emails. Yeah. So if you're trying to get in charge get in contact with our leadership, you could get call our main line, (907) 586-3630, and we get you in contact with them.
Speaker 2:And then, alright, we got another call. Was about to read that email, but let's get to this call. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 4:Yes. Good morning, and thank you for your program.
Speaker 2:Thank you for calling in.
Speaker 4:I have a question about parking spaces.
Speaker 2:Parking spaces. Is there a general location?
Speaker 4:Evidently evidently, my observation is all of the parking spaces around Juneau are designed for the compact cars only. And how I know that is when I go park anywhere with my f one fifty Ford pickup Mhmm. I have barely enough room to get into a parking spot, and that's evident by looking at the side of my pickup. It gets sideswiped by any other car parked on either the left side or right side of me.
Speaker 2:Oh, wow.
Speaker 4:Is there a reason why the city decided to go with the smaller parking spaces?
Speaker 2:I wish I had an answer for that. I I kinda noticed that as well that, like, certain air like, certain stores or certain parking lots, yeah, they're they're pretty slim and they're pretty like, even, like and if you're in a small sedan, sometimes it feels pretty snug and I can't Okay.
Speaker 4:Can I ask a different question then too?
Speaker 2:Go for it.
Speaker 4:I have a f one fifty pickup.
Speaker 2:Mhmm.
Speaker 4:And I have a handicap sticker hanging on my mirror. But when I go to let's I'll use Fred Buyers as an example. Almost any place that has a handicapped parking spot is another car without a handicapped sticker. Who enforces the handicap parking
Speaker 16:spots?
Speaker 2:It's it's not necessarily on the store for any handicap spots, but those are marked specifically for people folks that use handicap. And if they don't have the markings that they are handicap, then you can report those and possibly get those cards towed towed.
Speaker 4:At almost any place you look in Juneau where you see handicapped designated handicapped parking spots. You have other people without the handicapped sticker parked there. I'll go to the post office. I'll go to the clinics. I'll go to the hospital.
Speaker 4:I'll go to Fred Myers as I stated, but you'll see other cars without the handicap parking spot. I doubt that anyone
Speaker 2:Go ahead.
Speaker 4:Will verify that, yes. Can the police have any jurisdiction in that matter?
Speaker 2:Yes. They can. But, like, sometimes it's good to check with the stores like, hey, I was trying to park in this handicap spot, like go to customer service. I was trying to park in this handicap spot on this part of the parking lot, except I see this one car is parked here without the legal markings that
Speaker 4:This goes on anywhere. Look around.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 4:Look around when you when you go there. When you go even in your area, your what? K I n y? Mhmm. Do you have handicapped parking?
Speaker 2:We do not, but we have slots, like, right in front that are usually generally open. Like, we don't have designated handicap spots, but we will always make accommodations for those folks.
Speaker 4:Okay. I just thought I'd bring those subjects up. No. I appreciate you
Speaker 2:bringing that My
Speaker 4:pickup is getting all marked up from the narrow parking slots as I first started. And when I go to Fred Myers or to Safeway and I see a handicap, many handicapped, all taken by people who are not handicapped, then should I bring it all you safely? I said, like, should I go in and say, okay. Look. I had to walk quite a ways because the handicapped are taken up by people who are not handicapped.
Speaker 4:Is it my responsibility then to bring it up to the store?
Speaker 2:That's a good first step probably is bring it up to the store, but also you could ask them. It's like, hey, is is this something we could bring bring JPD in? And just make sure, like, people are respecting that for folks that have the actual visible handicap markings compared to
Speaker 4:You used the word, but very few people know. No. Did you just use the word respect?
Speaker 16:Mhmm.
Speaker 4:How many people know that word?
Speaker 2:Yeah. That's a that's a good that's a good question. I think a lot of folks kinda let that slip from their brains as far as courteous being courteous and respectful with especially with elders, disability folks. And so, yeah, I know sometimes we always get those bad apples. Like, I'm just gonna be in the store for five minutes and they park in a handicapped spot, but still at the same time, that's not okay.
Speaker 2:So, yeah, bring
Speaker 4:up That brings up another brings up another question.
Speaker 5:Mhmm.
Speaker 4:I'm getting ready to go into a handicapped slot. Yeah. And I decide I'm gonna swing in another car or a small car zips right in in front of me and takes it when they see me trying to jockey around to get myself into that slot, and another car zips right in. I said, now wait a minute. I was just getting ready to go in there.
Speaker 2:Oh, yes. I've I haven't have not personally faced that, but I have seen that happen before. And it is, yeah, that's Okay. So
Speaker 4:those are those issues that that that were on the on my mind. I thought I would bring them up.
Speaker 2:No. I appreciate you bringing them up.
Speaker 5:Do have
Speaker 2:another question. Yeah. Yeah. Go ahead. Sorry.
Speaker 4:Will be done, but still some I think something should be done.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Definitely. I think going those first two steps that we kinda chatted about, bring it up to the store. If the store doesn't do anything, I guess he could bring it up to JPD about that.
Speaker 4:Bring it up to who?
Speaker 2:JPD, the with our police officers.
Speaker 4:Okay. Thank you very much, sir, and I appreciate your program. Have a good day.
Speaker 2:Thank you so much for the call. Bye. Alright. Bye bye. Yes.
Speaker 2:That is definitely a tough situation. And, yeah, I think that's the best course of action, bring it up to the store and go from there. But let's take these other calls. We have a few more minutes left of the program. Hi.
Speaker 2:Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 5:In regards to the the gentleman that just had called you, the gentleman sitting there is a hefty fine. If you park in handicap and you don't have a sticker, they're going to fine you. This is the police department.
Speaker 4:Mhmm.
Speaker 5:I got the $5,300.
Speaker 2:Yeah. That Us park there.
Speaker 5:So so it's really serious for these people that aren't handicapped and don't have a sticker or don't have a a little, you know, card hanging from there, here in the mirror. But, on on another note, sir, regarding, the individuals that that are struggling with the, government shutdown Mhmm. And hardship, I was just at Global Credit Union, and they said the gentleman that helped me behind the counter said that they have a program right now set up to help individuals that are struggling with hardship. Oh, wow. So I don't know if there's loans or among well, he said loans that I see that could be that could other things that that they're offering communities here in Genome and throughout our country.
Speaker 5:So if somebody is struggling, call them their 800 number or just go into their branch.
Speaker 2:That's a good suggestion.
Speaker 5:Across the state from Fred because people aren't aware of where their new location is, across the highway from Fred Meyer. Well,
Speaker 2:I appreciate you bringing that up and suggesting that. I'm just having a little trouble hearing you clearly. It sounds like you're a little muffled on my end, but I was able to get most of the information from you. So that's that's a great suggestion for that earlier caller that's dealing with the disability affecting with the government shutdown. So, yeah, I appreciate that suggestion.
Speaker 5:Oh, absolutely. And thank you for your program, sir.
Speaker 2:Yeah, thank you so much for calling.
Speaker 5:You're welcome. I really enjoy it. Bye bye now.
Speaker 2:You have a good one.
Speaker 5:You too. Thank you. Bye.
Speaker 2:Bye bye. Yeah, that's a great suggestion. I didn't know that they were, Global Credit Union was offering those kind of, that kind of help. So gentlemen, if you're still listening, that's a good try. I know you're saying that your grand nephew uses that bank.
Speaker 2:So maybe you go reach out and see how they could help. And we do got another call. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 13:Hi. Hello there. Yeah. I still have those movies for 200
Speaker 2:Mhmm.
Speaker 13:Skills. And they can call me at 907 505179.
Speaker 2:5179.
Speaker 18:Alright. And
Speaker 13:Yeah. You can't beat that for two two hundred movies for 200. I mean, you won't be able to get movies like those.
Speaker 5:So
Speaker 2:Yeah. I'm sure there's
Speaker 13:some hidden
Speaker 2:gems in there too. I'm sure there's some pretty good hidden gems within your movie collection too that folks may not be able to see find anymore.
Speaker 13:Oh, yeah. Movies that we have, I don't think anybody would get one anything like those at Pawnshop. So
Speaker 2:That's great.
Speaker 13:They can call anytime.
Speaker 2:Alrighty. I will shout that out a couple more times before I wrap up the program.
Speaker 13:Alrighty. Thank you, sir.
Speaker 2:Yep. Thanks for the call.
Speaker 13:Bye.
Speaker 2:Alright. Have a good one. Yep. That is quite the deal. You might be able to find some hidden gems within their movie collections.
Speaker 2:200 movies asking $200 If you're interested, give them a call at 907505179. And then going back with our earlier calls, we had the first call with the comic books, the Chicago Bulls merch. He's asking I think he had a lot of comic books Looking around $500 for the I think he was saying the £20 worth of comic books. If you're interested in any of those, give him a call at (907) 419-5262. Big happy birthday shout out to Bri Bradley and Cake.
Speaker 2:Big happy thirteenth birthday from Problem Corner and family. Then we had the antique oak desk. That was possibly Zach Gordon's desk. That's pretty cool. It's over a 100 years old, and you could probably live a 100 a hundred plus more years.
Speaker 2:Refurbished, three by five. It's got deep drawers, file drawer. This comes with an Oak Captain chair asking $3.50 for that, and you could call them at (907) 780-6664. Then we had the queen mattress and all the different household goods. They need it gone by Thursday, so give them a call at (907) 209-0034, and we'll take this next call.
Speaker 2:Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air. Oh.
Speaker 4:Happy Hump Day from Utah. How are you doing?
Speaker 2:We're doing good. How's it going in Utah?
Speaker 4:It's just so warm.
Speaker 3:Hey. I just wanna mention baseball real quick, if I may.
Speaker 2:Go for it.
Speaker 4:Now my Chicago Cubs was put up
Speaker 3:fairly early by the Brewers and Brewers were put up on the Dawkins. Now I thought for sure Seattle was gonna take that a ACL, you know, the the American League Jack Championship Series.
Speaker 13:Mhmm.
Speaker 3:I was I was so bummed that they did not do it. So
Speaker 2:I know they're
Speaker 4:probably get put on put out and sent to, hold
Speaker 16:for
Speaker 3:a West Coast team. So I'm the
Speaker 4:first to say go LA Dodgers.
Speaker 2:We're switching up teams now.
Speaker 4:Well, my companies are out.
Speaker 2:So Yeah.
Speaker 3:In Seattle. I would've went to Seattle. Oh, well.
Speaker 2:Yep. It is a bummer about the Mariners.
Speaker 4:Thanks for listening.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Thanks for calling.
Speaker 3:Bye bye now.
Speaker 4:Alright.
Speaker 2:Wow. Calling from Utah. I appreciate the listenership. And it is 11:58. I have time to squeak in this one last call.
Speaker 2:Let's go for it. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 14:Good morning.
Speaker 2:Good morning.
Speaker 14:I was the one that called last week about the homelessness.
Speaker 5:And
Speaker 14:I know that the guy that got on right after I did before your program ended made a comment about enabling
Speaker 3:them.
Speaker 2:Mhmm.
Speaker 14:And the kid that I brought home, well, what if he went over there and this you know, I didn't enable anything.
Speaker 13:I brought faith to him.
Speaker 4:Right.
Speaker 14:You know, it's maybe stopping by them, you know, and praying with them daily. You know, it's not And if you know the situation, it's like any other job or anywhere you go. Put your stuff away. You know, make sure that but don't give up. I'm I'm I'm stressing this one because I have one out there in the world.
Speaker 14:You know? I have one of my own out there. Mhmm. And buried, like, 11 of them last year. You know?
Speaker 14:So I don't want people to get discouraged from me because, like, a lot of them I know there's bad eggs everywhere, you know, everywhere you go. But it just it it's the reason why I mean, there there's so many is, like, there's not like, I when I was over there, and like I said, I was homeless for a year, and I'd pray with them. You know, I was brought up that way because not everybody goes out homeless. Not everybody goes out a drug addict.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 14:Not everybody wants to stay there. And it's easier to say, well, if you this, You know what? I'm gonna, you know, I'm gonna challenge you. You know, I want you to just go with the clothes on your back and spend one night out on the road without calling family, without that's the way that it makes you feel. I don't know why.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 14:But that's the mentality that you get because so many you screw people over in your dark. Mhmm. You know what I mean? Like, you were in your dark, you you messed up. Of course,
Speaker 5:you did.
Speaker 14:Yeah. But you don't give up on them. You I mean, like, you don't have to sit there and dish out money if you don't wanna enable it, you know, like, bring a little faith to them.
Speaker 2:Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 14:You know? Mean, and pray
Speaker 2:with them.
Speaker 5:That's what it is.
Speaker 2:I'm sorry to cut you off, but we actually just hit our time limit. I was trying to squeak in last call. I'd love to talk more with you, definitely you could call us back early in the program for a little more lengthier conversation.
Speaker 13:Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 14:Just encourage them, everybody you know, mean, don't give up on your loved ones. Don't give up on them. They want out. They do, I guarantee it.
Speaker 2:Yeah. And I appreciate you echoing that. So yeah, we'll bring that up and feel free to call me back either tomorrow or call in on Friday with Nana Brooks.
Speaker 14:Absolutely. All right, have a
Speaker 4:good day.
Speaker 2:You as well. Thanks for the call. Okay. All right, bye bye. Yeah, I actually just brought up our conversation that we had on the program not that long ago, and I'm glad that you called back, but yes, we are out of time.
