From Feature Story News in London, I'm Simon Gaitan. A cargo ship has reportedly been struck in the Strait of Hormuz amid contradicting claims on the status of US-Iran talks. US President Trump claimed talks would begin with Iran, but Tehran has denied it is in negotiations with the US. Jagruti Dave reports from Washington.

Many analysts looking at the pattern of this war will say it's Groundhog Day. We've seen the threats of serious military escalation followed by a pause, a demand for a deal, and then the resumption of strikes over something like the Strait of Hormuz. And so there are patterns of similarities, but there are some differences as well. This time Iran's saying it's not in talks with the US despite Donald Trump's claim that Iran is begging for negotiations. Another difference is that we know from the Saudi Arabian press agency that the Saudi crown prince talked to President Trump. And there's clear concerns from the Gulf about regional security if there's an escalation. So it seems that there is more regional pressure at play here with the threat of Iran hitting Gulf energy infrastructure in retaliation to US strikes. So there's clearly a growing move to try to bring diplomacy back on track. But both sides are very much doubling down on their positions publicly. So there's every chance we could see the same cycle repeated again, but with more serious repercussions regionally and for the global Overnight attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russia's 2 biggest cities killed 6 people and injured at least 10.

Russia claims it has hit critical infrastructure in Ukraine. Daria Bundochuk reports more from Moscow.

5 were killed and 6 more injured in Tuesday's attack by Ukrainian drones on Moscow's outskirts. The region's governor, Andrei Vorobyov, said a warehouse caught fire. Another consumer goods warehouse was attacked near Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, with one civilian reportedly killed. At least 320 Ukrainian drones were shot down over Russian regions overnight. Meanwhile, Russia's military command reported it had hit 7 dry cargo ships in the Ukrainian ports of Mykolaiv and Odessa in the Black Sea overnight.

EU interior ministers are meeting on Tuesday to discuss the Ceuta migrant crisis after calls for stronger border security. Ross Cullen reports.

EU interior ministers are meeting via video link on Tuesday to address the ongoing ramifications of the surge of some 60,000 people into the Spanish semi-enclave of Ceuta. Last week, Spain says almost all of the migrants who arrived have returned, though several thousand remain hoping to secure a route to legal jobs in Spain. The rush on the border of an EU territory has worried many European leaders. Several governments called for Spain to be suspended from the Schengen passport-free travel area, and 22 EU countries signed a letter attacking Madrid's migration policies. The Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Álvarez stressed that it was Madrid itself that requested this week's talks because it wants to, quote, remind all EU member states that without solidarity there is no Europe.

Dr. Sajan Goyal, International Security Director for the London-based Asia-Pacific Foundation, says there are lots of caveats that could still undermine the disarmament plan.

The parties appear to have accepted a framework under which Hamas and other factions would gradually place weapons and, and military infrastructure under Palestinian control, and then eventually surrender governance and security functions to a technocratic authority. In return, Israel is then meant to military operations and increase and allow aid to flow into Gaza over stages. But they still disagree over who moves first, what constitutes complete disarmament, and whether weapons are stored inside Gaza or removed altogether. So, as you mentioned about caveats, there are a lot of them.

Hard-right members of Prime Minister Netanyahu's government are openly hostile to the arrangement. Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has baseball fans doing a double take after joking on a podcast that he doesn't believe Babe Ruth ever actually existed.

During an appearance on the Kristen Cavallari podcast, Crow-Armstrong was asked for an unpopular opinion and delivered a tongue-in-cheek answer saying Babe Ruth never existed. He says that he got the idea after hearing Mariners pitcher Tyler setup, uh, jokingly go down an internet rabbit hole, uh, where questioning Ruth's existence— Crowe-Armstrong laughed that since baseball has evolved so much, people might as well, um, take the, the conspiracy one step further. Most fans took the, uh, the comment as an obvious satire, but some didn't, of course. But they quickly spread online because, well, it's the internet. And of course, Babe Ruth's life and career are among the most Thoroughly documented in sports history, and there is no mystery. So here's what Pete had to say. Okay, so I hope you're sitting. President Trump publicly criticized Jeanine Pirro, the former Fox News host, serving as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, after she moved to dismiss the felony vandalism case involving Lincoln Memorial reflection pool. Pirro asked The court to drop the charges against David Hearn, a former Olympian, after the Department of Interior provided new information indicating that the pool's damage was caused by a faulty installation, not vandalism. Her filing said the government would not have sought an indictment had that information been disclosed earlier, noting that the project had been a rush to meet the 250th American celebration. Trump rejected that conclusion, saying that He, uh, remained convinced that the pole had been vandalized. Speaking to reporters, he said that, uh, he's really disappointed in her, claiming that, uh, the, the folded like an umbrella and suggesting that she backed down under the pressure from the judge. He also maintained the surveillance footage showed the evidence of the vandalism, despite previous, previous reporting that, uh, the footage does not clearly support the claim. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum also continued to argue that vandals were responsible for the damage. Separately, CNN reported that Trump was considering removing Pirro from her position. It looked beautiful, and then they cut it and they vandalized, and we weren't necessarily thrilled with the contractor. The judge was extremely unfriendly to Jeanine, and frankly, I think she choked. Because the judge was really vicious. Instead of going after the people that did it, the judge went after her. Really disappointed with Jeanine Pirro. She, uh, she folded like an umbrella.

So there you go. Folded like an umbrella was the discussion. I mean, there are some things to talk about. So there you go. Okay, so let's continue talking about some other things that are going on. Apparently we're Kind of sports-focused today. Former NFL player Josh Hotcake has accepted Jake Paul's $1 million challenge after boxer claimed that he could make an NFL roster with little— that he could make an NFL roster with little difficulty. The controversy began when Paul said that there's a lot of super mediocrity in the NFL, arguing that many players aren't great athletes. He claimed that his hands are better, faster, and stronger than many NFL players, and he believed that he could earn the roster spot after practicing routes. Paul also said that he had spoken with a couple of NFL teams and coaches who were interested in giving him a chance. After drawing criticism for those comments, Paul doubled down by offering up $1 million to any NFL player willing to face him in a head-to-head challenge. The football player would try to outbox Paul while Paul would run football routes against them. With the internet deciding the winner, former San Francisco 49ers player Josh Hodges Um, has now publicly accepted the challenge, setting the stage for a potential showdown. So I don't know if you remember this interview because we briefly spoke about this, but when Jake Paul referenced this, there was a reference piece that he said that he had just started thinking about this a few minutes ago before the interview. So I don't know how, if they just moved that quick, that they were able to reach out to a couple of NFL teams, uh, before everything, um, would be able to occur. But I mean, that would be the quickest thing. That'd be like me turning on this microphone and saying, oh yeah, before I turn— before I turn this on, I called a couple NFL teams. I've never played football in my life, uh, but— and they're willing to take me on. More sarcasm than a Mortal Kombat beatdown. Rated R safety show. So there you go, a lot of stuff going on real quick. Let's go ahead and jump back into some other news. President Trump accused Iran leaders being, um, unbelievable— unbelievably Uh, duplicitous. Yeah, that's what it says. After Iranian officials denied that they were negotiating a peace agreement with the United States, Trump comments came after the Iranian foreign minister spokesperson said that Iran was not holding talks with the U.S., insisting that its decisions were only with Oman. Trump disputed that account, claiming that Iran had requested a meeting and that negotiations were ongoing with additional talks planned. The president also rejected Iranian claims about controlling the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that the United States effectively controls access to the strategic waterway. Uh, he said no shipments would pass unless the deal was reached with Iran to agree with, uh, they called a total surrender. Yeah, a total surrender. So there you go, some things to talk about right there. So what an interesting time is, uh, definitely what it sounds like. What do you think about this whole thing? I mean, it definitely gets interesting. I mean, let's not lie here. in regards of what the hell's going on. Because if you said that you were not disappointed in regards to the amount of information that comes about, it kind of gets interesting. 'Cause it's like one week this is going on, the next week that's going on. And listen, I don't know if it's one of those things that there, it's like a yes/no conversation where you go, okay, we agree to do this. And then it's like, no, we don't.

Uh, Michigan health officials have reportedly, uh, that the first 2 deaths linked to the nationwide outbreak, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, both individuals had serious underlying health conditions, and officials believe that the infection and resulting dehydration may have contributed to their death. No additional details about the, um, the patients were released. The outbreak has become the largest on the record of the United States, with the CDC investigating more than 18,000 confirmed suspected cases across 45 states. Michigan has been hit especially hard, according to more than 11,000 infections. So this particular, uh, disease that's going around is a parasite typically spread through contaminated food or water that can cause severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration. While most healthy people recover, The illness can be dangerous for older adults and those with weakened immune systems or those with serious health conditions. So a lot of stuff going on right there as we are talking. So what do you think about this? Um, so a lot of stuff, um, going on inside of the multiverse. So there you go, there you go. The latest Marvel adventure debuted with an impressive $355 million in North American ticket sales and has already earned another $23 million in IMAX screening in China, Japan, and South Korea. So South Korea. Uh, Tom Holland returns to Peter as Peter Parker, Zendaya is back as MJ, and Jacob Batalon, uh, is returning as Ned. So there you go, some stuff to think about. So yeah, a lot of people will be, um, kind of excited about that is what I would imagine, um, in regards to seeing it in IMAX. Now the question is going to become now, because let's just be realistic, people are going to be out there, is it the 70mm version? Because that's what Odyssey was filmed on, just in case if For those not playing along at home, and that's perfectly fine. Okay, so let's continue, uh, let's continue talking real quick. So you are aware that when we talk about some stuff, there's a lot of things that are changing inside of our world. And I'm talking about from the standpoint that things are changing because of technology and how, um, things are going and things are moving and all this kind of fun stuff. And, you know, we talk about this industry, the safety industry, but sometimes I talk a little bit about some radio stuff because that's kind of what we're doing here. So take a listen to this. Southern California classic rock station KCAL-FM 96.7 has laid off their entire on-air staff as they transition to a largely automated music-only format. The cuts announced on July 31st affected all the station personalities, including host morning host Patricia— or Patrick Chish, excuse me— midday host Nikki Preston, longtime afternoon host Darryl Neuzil, uh, evening host program director John DeSantis, as well as part-time and weekend staff. DeSantis said that the station owners had moved to a humanless format, calling the decision shocking. Owners of Anaheim Broadcasting said that the overhaul is intended to focus on classic rock music while providing more consistent listening experience, a broader appeal to audience and advertisers. Former station manager Jeffrey Park, who retired shortly before the changes, said that he was surprised but noted the move reflects the broader trend in the radio industry, which has struggled financially since the pandemic. Among those, uh, who, uh, that let go was Darryl Nazo, whose 42-year career at KCAL began, uh, when he was 20 years old. And in a new farewell message, he thanked listeners for sharing decades of life some milestones with him and said that he planned to take, um, time off and beginning the next chapter of his career. So there you go. So let me talk about this real quick for just a moment because I think this is important to have, uh, this conversation. Radio is a very interesting medium because, as you are aware, and we have the discussion, I am not a big fan of video. And I'm talking about video with radio, but that's just kind of where Where this is going, and it has been for years. And this is something that we fought, uh, for a period of time before we decided to go into the video format with a radio station. But I'm bringing this up this morning because this is where technology is going. And listen, right now, depending on how you're taking a listen to this or a view of this or however you're doing it, you have access to thousands and millions of thousands and thousands and possibly millions and millions of songs.

So it puts radio in kind of a weird spot because unless you have a really heavy local appeal when it comes to radio, it's very difficult to follow along unless you're just one of those people that have it playing in the background or whatever plays, plays. But that's just not— doesn't seem to be the normal pattern anymore. I remember talking to someone in my family and she was referencing to me and she goes, Does radio— I didn't even realize that people still listened to radio. That was the first thing that they said. And then they were like, my kids do not listen to radio because of the Spotifys of the world, the Pandoras, the Apple Music, YouTube Music, and so on. And I get it. I mean, I get it. Give me convenience or give me death. I remember the olden days. And I mean, listen, not trying to sound like a super old person here, but let's just be realistic for a moment where you would sit around and wait for a song. that you would want to listen to back, uh, back many, many, many moons ago, as opposed to you just being able to pick the song you wanted to listen to and go, we're listening to it now. So it gets pretty interesting as we move forward. So I don't know, it'll be interesting to see, um, what happens with some of the other major stations with, uh, some of those things, uh, taking place. So there you go. Okay, take a listen to this real quick. Idaho record breaker David Rush teamed up with his wife Jennifer and sons Jeremy and Peter, uh, to set the Guinness World Record, the fastest time for a team of 4 to clear a game of Hungry Hip— Hungry Hungry Hippos. Yep. The quality of the family, uh, or yeah, the qual— to qualify, the family had to use an unmodified licensed game flat table, uh, keep their hands flat on the start to operate the hippos using only one finger throughout the attempt. Any dropped ball or finger swapping would have invalidated the run. The Rush family completed the game in 3.75 seconds, beating the previous record at 4.833 seconds. The achievement, completed in November of 2025, has now been officially certified by Guinness World Records. The milestone also marked David Rush's 200th currently held, uh, Guinness record title, making him the 3rd person in history to hold 200 active Guinness records at the same time. That's a lot of records, man. Let's just be realistic. So there you go. So I don't know, what do you think about when it comes to this whole thing? I mean, would you care about records like that or no? So I don't know, it just gets kind of strange. So take a listen to this because I want to talk about it. A 2007 panorama taken by— a 2007 panorama taken by NASA Spirit Rover has resurfaced online after some viewers claimed to appear to show a human-like figure walking across the Martian landscape. The shape nestled among the rocks seems to, um, have outstretched arms and one leg forward, uh, prompting, uh, speculation that it could have been a Persian statue or evidence of past lives on Mars. Uh, most observers, however, say the figure is simply a rock formation made to look like a human by lighting and shadows. The Planetary Society plans to— that the Alhambra is, well, one of those things that are just sitting there. The brain's tendency to recognize familiar patterns such as faces, human forms, and random objects. The renewed interest follows another, uh, recent claim by UFO researcher Scott C. Waring, uh, that they argued the photos NASA's Curiosity rover showed an unexploded alien missile left behind of ancient Martian civilization. Waring offered no evidence to claim that suggests that the government would seek recovery of such technology if it existed. NASA has consistently said that it found no evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars and maintains the unusual-looking objects photographed by its rovers occurring rock formations shaped by billions of years of volcanic activity, impacts, and wind erosion. So what do you think here? A lot of stuff to think about. 'Cause, you know, as we think, we kind of go, oh, well, maybe it's just all made up anyways. Who the hell knows? Uh, let's see. We are during our main story, and I want to talk about this real quick. Because I think, not therefore I am, we need to talk about some things that are going on inside of the industry. And I want to bring this up today and I want to kind of go down a weird path, if you may, um, give me such permission to do so for the next few moments, because I think it's always important to have discussions about, um, Different things. And sometimes we have to think about some of the things that occur inside of the workplace. And we have to think about some of these things that especially that happen inside of the world of what we do. And some of the stuff that we do is kind of odd sometimes. I mean, as we've talked about for years at this point, and we've referenced it a few weeks ago, uh, good old Sam Goodman from the Hop Nerd.

Um, had used this terminology for some period of time that he called safety fix-it. And when he would bring this up, it was always brought up from the standpoint that safety was expected to fix everything. And it really resonated with a lot of people, um, when he brought that up. And I still think that it's a genius thing, the concept that he came up with when talking about that. In regards of how safety is expecting to fix everything that's out there. Now, here's the other portion that I would like to think about real quick. And I want you to think about these 2 words today as we are hanging out, justice and vengeance, justice and vengeance. And I want to talk about them because they differ primarily because justice is impartial. And rule-bound, where vengeance is personal and emotional. While both deal with addressing a wrong, they operate through entirely different motivations, processes, and societal outcomes. So let's talk about this. Let's talk about some of the core differences here for just a moment. The nature of the actor. Justice administration by the objective of the neutral third party, like a judge, jury, or legal system who has no personal Tied to the harm, where vengeance is carried out directly by the person who was hurt of their close allies and making it deeply subjective and personal. And I want you to think about that for a moment. So justice is administered by an objective and neutral third party, where vengeance— It's carried out directly by a person who was hurt or their close allies, making it deeply subjective. Now, I bring this up today cuz you're probably sitting there going, why in the fuck are you bringing up justice and vengeance? Because sometimes when we are at our lovely workplaces, there is a discussion for those 2 words.

And the reason why I bring up Sam Goodman's theory of safety fix-it is because we sometimes, when we are doing stuff inside of the organization where it is safety fix-it, as he has claimed it to be, and things need to progress and things need to be looked at. There is something that happens sometimes that we are looking to punish some of the employees, but using our quote unquote safety system, not using directly what needs to be done in regards of if you have a safety issue, the issues related to safety, it is not a way to paperwork someone out. Of your system. So the question there starts to become the following: is justice what we're doing, or is it vengeance that we're carrying out? Because here's the funny part: when you start thinking about the emotional states of these things, justice is driven by rationale, thought, preset rules, evidence, and standard of fairness. Where when you start looking at some of this stuff, And you're told to go, hey, we need to get this person out of here. We need to take a look at what's going on. Sometimes it becomes more of a vengeance thing, and the emotional state there is slightly different. It is driven by intense personal feelings like anger, hate, grief, and desire to see someone, um, that had offended the system to suffer. And I know it sounds really weird, but think about it for a moment. And if you think about it, what are the goals to both of these things? Where goals of justice aims to keep the public order, protect the community, and stop the future harm, vengeance isn't that way. Aims to give temporary emotional relief to the victim by striking back, or often risking wider social chaos. So think about this for a moment. When someone is using the safety system to move forward with things and they're saying, let's look at some of this paperwork, let's go ahead and move forward with some of these other things, are they doing it from a standpoint of doing it as a form of justice?

Because this is how the system has been designed to work, or are they doing it more along the lines of vengeance? Because I have to tell you, the more and more I look across some of these systems and the more and more I look at how we do some of the training, it seems that when we are going to go back and look at what has been done to that point, it seems more like vengeance. than what it does like justice. So if you think about these 2 words today and you give them consideration and you give them some thought process in regards of your day, does your system inside of your workplace, does it look at things through the eyes of justice or does it look at it through the eyes of vengeance? Because making that determination will play a huge factor. And I'm not talking I'm talking a huge factor on how the system will work inside of your workplace. Those 2 words, close in meaning, but man, do they really mean something entirely different when it's all said and done.

The comments came after the companies reported a combined $26.5 billion in second-quarter profits, with Chevron earnings reportedly rising more than 400% over the same period last year and Exxon more than doubling. Speaking to reporters, Trump said that the companies were making too much money because of the shortages, adding although that they strongly support free enterprise, he did not approve of such a withdrawal of such a withdrawal— withhold products or office. Nearly 65,000 people were evacuated in Spokane, Washington yesterday as fast-moving wildfires continue to spread across the region. Since Saturday, the fires have destroyed more than 700 homes, contributing to what officials describe as Pacific Northwest's worst wildlife— uh, wildfire, excuse me— seasons in more than 30 years. In Washington State alone, the wildfires have burned more than 250,000 acres, forcing widespread evacuation and causing extensive damage. So there you go. In some other news, TKO Group has revealed that the UFC lost about $30 million in hosting the UFC Freedom 250 on the White House lawn. The event held in June reportedly cost nearly $60 million to produce. Sponsors helped offset half of those prices, but the promotion still ended up with a significant financial loss.
