Nou, Hassan staat bij een kleine bakkerij. Het is vroeg. De straat is nat. Het licht is grijs. Hassan heeft een broodje in zijn hand. Hij ruikt zoet. Er is ook een geur van koffie. Hij kijkt naar de ruit. Hij ziet zijn eigen gezicht. Hij denkt aan zijn werk. Hij wil een normale dag. Hij wil ook stil in zijn hoofd zijn. Maar zijn telefoon trilt. Nog een keer. En nog een keer. Hassan zucht. Hij zegt zacht: “Wat is dit nou weer?”

Hij pakt zijn telefoon. Hij ziet NOS. Hij leest de titel. Brand bij synagoge Rotterdam. Politie denkt aan brandstichting. Hassan slikt. Zijn hand wordt koud. Hij kijkt naar de bakker. De bakker ziet hem kijken. De bakker zegt: “Gaat het?” Hassan zegt: “Ik zie nieuws. Brand. In Rotterdam.” De bakker zegt: “Da’s ook wat.” Een vrouw achter Hassan hoort het. Zij zegt: “Brandstichting?” Hassan knikt. Hij zegt: “Ja. Dat zegt de politie.”

De bakker zet het geluid aan. Een radio staat op de plank. Het nieuws komt ook daar. Hassan hoort een stem. Hij hoort: “synagoge” en “brand.” Hij hoort ook: “politie” en “onderzoek.” Hassan voelt druk in zijn borst. Hij kijkt naar buiten. Een bus gaat langs. Mensen lopen snel. Niemand kijkt naar elkaar.

Dan gaat de deur open. Een man met een geel vest komt binnen. Hij zegt: “Ik kom voor brood.” Hij kijkt naar de radio. Hij zegt: “Hé. Wat is dit?” De vrouw zegt: “Brand bij synagoge.” De man zegt: “Kom op zeg.” Hij tikt met zijn vingers op de toonbank. Tik tik tik. Hassan hoort dat tikken. Het gaat in zijn hoofd.

Hassan zegt: “Ik ken mensen in Rotterdam.” De bakker zegt: “Bel ze.” Hassan belt. Hij wacht. Het gaat over. Een vriend neemt op. Hassan zegt: “Hé. Jij oké?” De vriend zegt: “Ja. Ik ben oké. Ik hoor ook nieuws.” Hassan zegt: “Ik schrik.” De vriend zegt: “Ik ook. Ik ben boos.” Hassan zegt: “Ik ook.”

Hassan stopt zijn telefoon weg. Hij betaalt. Hij loopt naar buiten. De straat is nog nat. Hassan kijkt naar mensen. Hij zegt tegen een vrouw die hij kent: “Ik hoor naar nieuws. Brand bij synagoge.” Zij kijkt hem aan. Zij zegt: “Dat is erg.” Hassan knikt. Hij zegt: “Ja. Dat is erg.”

Hij loopt door. Hij ziet een prullenbak. Hij ziet een klein kaartje op de grond. Op het kaartje staat: “Samen.” Hassan pakt het kaartje op. Hij doet het in zijn jas. Hij ademt diep. Hij zegt zacht: “Samen. Ja.” En hij loopt verder. Lekker bezig, Hassan. 💪🌷
