Full show transcript:

Our daughter is like really good at making toll house cookies. Yeah. She's like too good at it. They're delicious. They are delicious. And they're warm and they're soft and they are delicious. And I can't stay out of them. And there might be one left on the plate, and I want it. Right now.

If it's there.

Literally. We were getting ready to talk on a break a couple of minutes ago. And uh as we were getting ready to wrap up the show, and I kind of got a whiff of chocolate chip cookie, and I was like, I want that cookie.

You should have eaten it for breakfast. I I should not have.

I've eaten too many of them. I know. I probably had four yesterday.

You offered me one yesterday, and I go, No, I've already had two.

I know. I had four. She's gotta stop.

I know. And then she she had taken some to school for some of her friends, and she goes, There were too many, I'm gonna bring them home. And I went, no. I can't say no to those. Stop making cookies.

Yeah, make brownies instead. Stop making cookies. Make cinnamon rolls.

I had a delicious cinnamon roll over the weekend. Yeah. I need more of that cinnamon. I'll tell you.

I I've had a lot of cinnamon roll in my day. And it was good. It certainly was. I don't think it's my favorite one. It is my favorite one. I thought the bread was too bready.

I disagree wholeheartedly.

I it was kind of a starchyish bread. And I it was not my favorite flavor. This agree. And it was a little dry.

Veheminently disagree.

I like a wetter cinnamon roll.

Well, I like it. I'm gonna go get more. Are you? Yep.

I kind of want to try like cinnamon rolls from different places. Yes. So if you want to spearhead that, uh we gotta get a whole bunch of them. Cinnamon roll club? No, it doesn't need to be a club. Yeah.

No. I'll be president. Okay. I'm gonna write it down. What should we call it? Cine club? No. Yeah. Cine. Cine roll club. It doesn't need to be a club. Yes, it does. I didn't want it to be a club. Too bad.

Um I just want to have a variety of different cinnamon rolls from different bakeries so that I can try them and decide which one I like best. Okay.

That's what I mean. We've got Mrs. Powell's, we got Geraldine's. Yeah. We have Great Harvest. Right.

Um, Those I think were the three big ones. I don't think we need to bring grocery store cinnamon rolls into it, but we could. Let's see. Because every grocery store bakery has a a cinnamon roll. Okay. But they're not gonna be as fresh as the ones from the bakeries. Carstens. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Yes, now we're at four. Okay.

Uh who else? There's the Guardian bake shop.

I don't know what that is, but I do it.

Elevate's Bake Shop. Okay. I'm writing all these down.

Now we're up to five, six. Uh six. Six cinnamon rolls. Meg pies? Awesome. Seven. Yep. Somebody I know Meg Pies does. Oh, there you go. There's there's now eight. I know uh some of these folks bring their stuff to farmers market, but there's probably some independents that have a cinnamon roll down there. We might have to do this on a Saturday when we can get them at the market. Okay.

That's fine with me. I am not sure. But that's already seven or eight, just without trying really hard.

We gotta cut this off at some point. Yeah, I'm still going. Because if we get ten and we rate them one through ten, we're gonna have one bite of each. That's fine. And that's a lot of cinnamon rolls.

That's well, here's what we do. You just do it a weekend. So we go out for like a cinnamon roll on the weekend. I want all ten at once. No, you can't. That's how I rate. I know you do, but you don't necessarily have to rate. You can just take notes. Take notes and say this one was too bready. You can't. We can't eat that many cinnamon rolls at one time.

We can so here's what we do then. Okay. We cut it in half. Let's say there's ten. We're gonna cut in half to five. We'll have round one, and we'll have a winner of round one, and then the other five another time, and we'll do that as round two. I think just one at a time. Now who's the president? You self-nominated. I want to have them all at once.

Cine Roll Club. Here we go. Who wants to do it?

It shouldn't have been a club. It just should have been try cinnamon rolls all at one time.

No, it's too many cinnamon rolls.

What do you cut off of those? Because here's the thing you do. You write a list on a little scratch paper, and then after you're done writing a list, you pull out the biggest scissors that were ever made.

like you're trying to do a ribbon cutting for the grand opening of a business, and you cut a piece off every time. What is it? What are you doing? What OCD are you feeding?

This is just scratch paper. Yeah. And it's been haphazardly cut. Yeah. And so see how it's like wonky. Yeah. I cut off that so it's a little bit more straight. Because I don't like that it's haphazard. Well, it's still haphazard. This is not the one I use. No, I'm looking at the other one. Yeah, it's better though.

It's still not straight.

It's not. That's because I have the biggest scissors in history.

I know they are. Line them up straight. Okay. There you go. And give her a cut. It's like you cut the whole paper in one. They are huge scissors. I know. I why are they so big?

These were just here. I don't know.

What were they? Who in radio was like, I need four foot long scissors. I don't know. They're insane.

These are the only pair of scissors I have here.

You can cut an eight and a half by eleven. The eleven way. It's crazy. Well, anyway.

City Roll Club. Who wants to be a part? Raise your hand.

I don't. I just want to eat cinnamon rolls. Why is it got to be a club with a president and all these like one at a time rules? I just want 10 cinnamon rolls in front of me. You know what else? What?

I'll blind taste test them. That's more important than that. That I need them to be numbered one through ten. You could do that. So that I don't know whose is whose.

Okay. Yeah. All right. You could do that. There's more. I'm still going. The Google has told me there's a lot of cinnamon roll shops here. I'm stoked about Cine Roll Club.

So 12, and we do six at a time. No.

And then guess what else? What else? This doesn't even include like um homemade cinnamon rolls. I know. From our own house. I know.

So I don't really want to do like Pillsbury.

No, not those. Homemade. I'm talking homemade. Yeah. Okay. I got this. All right. Here's today's show. How are you? Fine. How are you? How was your drive? Fine. It was rainy. Your drive? It was rainy. It was rainy. It sure was. I had to defrost.

Uh, not because of ice, but just because of overall condensation.

Yeah, I had to do that as well. That's a thing that happens.

Um A 54-year-old chimpanzee in Louisiana named Pierre is seeing the world again after a successful cataract surgery. Aww. Isn't that exciting? Yes. Pierre had gone completely blind, forcing his devoted care team to train him using sound cues and positive reinforcement so that he could learn how to function in camp captivity at camp, uh, excuse me, chimp Haven is where he was living. That's where he lives. You said a chimpanzee? That's right. He's 54. Aww.

Yeah. The care team uh brought in a top veterinary eye surgery, uh, eye surgeon, and the procedure was an insanely huge success. Within hours, Pierre was visually recognizing his favorite human caregivers. Within days, he was back to hanging out with his best chimp buddy Jill. So Jill and Pierre are pals again. Hey, best chimp buddy. I know. The uh staff at Chimp Haven who have known Pierre for over 25 years say that watching him look back at them for the first time in years was an unforgettable moment, and they are thrilled that he continues to reconnect with people, chimpanzees, and activities familiar to him. Hmm. That's so nice.

It's incredible. It's probably really difficult to know if that is a successful surgery. Uh without being able to get that feedback. To talk to feedback. Yeah. To go, okay, let's go ahead and do your eye test now and go, look at that. Yes, they just would have to know that the surgery is going to work.

If he's waving at some of his favorite caretakers and his favorite champ brands. No, I know that that's a good indication. Absolutely.

But I would assume that, like, for humans, when you go in to do your eye exam and they go, Oh, you we need to fix this vision. They have some sort of baseline based on the communication. I don't know if you can do that without uh without some sort of input.

Maybe you can. I mean, clearly they did. Anyway. Good job. But that was cool. Yeah. Exciting, good news to start the day.

news. And also, it was kind of rainy. So we got that going for us. But good morning. How long is your lunch break? Uh, 30 minutes. That's not very long.

No, it's not. And I typically just eat at my desk. So it's not necessarily a break.

So you work through lunch. Yeah. I do that most often. Uh, or I might run grab something, but I never take the hour. You get an hour. Yeah. Lucky. I'm surprised you don't. Well, I don't. I mean, that's just interesting to me. Yeah. In an eight hour day, you would get an hour long lunch.

Uh, there is a company uh that has gone viral online. Uh, the uh owner there, the business owner says he doesn't care how long employees take for lunch. He's like, uh take take whatever time you want. However, there is a caveat. You can take as long a lunch as you want so long as your work is done, customers are taken care of, and no one is leaving extra work for their teammates. Uh that's nice. So there's a little bit of criteria in there, but as long as those needs are met for the company and whatever, cool. Go take a lunch.

I would rather if you have an eight hour day with an hour long lunch. I would rather work through my hour long lunch and leave early.

Well, isn't that the thing where they they reel it back? You're actually at work eight hours. Right. That's what I mean. Yeah. You'd rather leave an hour early. Yeah. Yeah.

I think that'd be great. But I think the only way you could do that is to come in later because if a business has to close at a certain time. Yeah. Then you'd have to just be there till it closes.

Right. But an hour later coming in, sure. Uh he said some employees occasionally take lunch breaks that last up to two hours, whether that's to spend time with a visiting family member or just to recharge after a rough morning. His view is that most workers naturally make up the time by working through lunch on another day.

Yeah. Staying late when needed, or pitching in elsewhere. He also said the companies are often quick to track every little minute that an employee spends on a break while ignoring the extra time that they give back through skip lunches, after hours emails, staying late to finish project projects. And this guy being a good business owner is like it's not fair.

I worked at a place like that once. Yeah. Yeah. I don't work there anymore because they monitored every time.

You might I I was confused. I thought we worked somewhere that was cool. No, they were terrible.

They were really bad about nope. If you're going to the doctor, you better make sure you track that 15 minutes. Even if it was like a quick, I just need to run get my prescription or something. They're like, make sure you track that. But boy, oh boy. You better answer that email after hours. Yeah, I think that's I left that company.

I think that's really super good. Uh a lot of a lot of people online are having mixed opinions, but mostly people are like, yes, this is the way it should be. I also agree. Yeah.

Because guess what? We're adults. We're capable of managing what needs to be done. Trust your team. Yeah. Be responsible. You know? I that's what I'm saying. Yeah, me too. I like that.

We gotta have more places that are run like that, because that's uh that's a good place to be.

I should uh it was recommended to me that I take a walk, like a 10-minute walk after I eat lunch. And so I've been meaning to go do that, but I haven't yet. It's a good idea. I know. I think it sounds like solid advice. Yeah.

Is that part of your workout plan? Yes. It's a good idea. I know. Had a little walk last night. It was nice. It was. I like getting the blood sugars back to normal. That's nice. Anyway, uh enjoy your 30-minute lunch today.

Thanks. Enjoy your hour long lunch.

I never take it. I I'll go like grab food and then I come back and I eat in the parking lot in my car, and then I go, okay, there was my lunch. And I'm back in like 15 minutes.

I know. If I had an hour long lunch, I would probably take a half an hour to eat and then a half an hour to take just a quick siesta. I should be taking siesta. Dude, I'm telling you.

I had my head my truck pillow for a while.

Exactly what I'd be doing. I need to put that back in the truck. Doesn't that sound nice? Yeah. Quick little quick little nap. Get back to it. I think that sounds awesome. I like a siesta. I could use a siesta ride. Right now? Yes. I made dinner three nights in a row. I noticed that. And uh I'm done.

You're you're done making dinner. That's it's too much. Yeah. It's too much dinners in a row. Uh, what'd you make Sunday? I made the uh the pad tie. Yeah. Or not pad Thai, the Pad Say you. Yeah, yeah. Thai food on Sunday, toastadas last uh Monday. Oh, yeah. And then last night, lasagna soup. Look at me.

A little Thai food, a little Latin flavor, and then some Italian.

I you're all over the map.

So it must be trying to give my time. I've got the sliders that I need to make. So I think I'm probably making sliders tonight. Yeah, I think tag you're it. Yeah.

I mean, I make lots of meals. So uh, you know, that's cool. Um I'm into like sitting down in the in the chair and and chatting with you while you're cooking. That's the we did a little roll reversal. I'm sorry.

When you mean chatting. Yeah.

No, I was playing on my phone.

No, yeah, you weren't doing any chatting.

No, but you had your music going. I was there. Because no one was talking to me. Yeah.

I was cooking dinner all by myself. I tried to dance with the dog.

Yeah. She wasn't having it.

Sometimes she likes it. Sometimes she'll wagger tail and she'll walk over. Sometimes she looks at me like I don't like that. I don't like that move. I really was using, I took a video because I was throwing out my best dance moves with the dog. Oh. And she was very unimpressed. I took a video.

And I went of your dance moves or of the dog's unimpressed face.

Of the dog face. Unimpressed face. While you were dancing. That's I mean, she could not have cared. She was just like, I mean, she's look at her. I'm showing you this video.

She's like blinking a little bit.

She's fallen asleep.

Yeah, she's like, you're hypnotizing me. Oh, there goes her tail. When you got you must have said her name or something. But yeah, she really doesn't No, she doesn't care. bother at all.

Uh throwing out my best dance moves.

And she's like, what are you doing? Yeah.

I told you, I'm trying to work on a circus act with her. That's right.

You ask her all the time if she wants to juggle or dance. Jump through rings.

I was like, maybe if you danced with me, she just looks at me

like maybe she needs a little tutu.

That actually might be if you made her a little tool tutu, she might be like now I'm in it. That just goes right around her little waist, and then you could stand her up with and then she'd be perfect.

She might just hate that enough that she'd be like, Nope, I really hate this now. You thought I hated this before. I hate it. No.

A little elastic around her. She will love it. I've seen her the way she is when you put her harness on to take her for a walk. She she walks totally normal. She doesn't uh we call it low rider because her back half sinks way down and she looks uh she looks crazy. Yeah, it's like she forgets how to walk. Yeah. And all she has on is a harness, and that's too much. So yeah, a little elastic tool uh tutu might just send her over the over the edge.

Um okay, so I've done three dinners in a row. Yeah. It's your turn. No, I gathered. Okay. I'm on it. I don't even like to cook, but I've done it three times in a row.

And you've done great.

Great meals. Really good meals. I don't mind cooking if there's nobody in my way. I actually don't mind it. If I can turn on my music and I don't have to prepare it at a certain time. Yeah. So you take that stress out of it, and I have my kitchen clean and there's nobody bugging me. I actually don't mind.

Now something happened where you said, hey, can you put away the dishes? Uh, and you were still kind of doing some cooking, and then you said, never mind. I did not want you to do that.

No, because you were all up in my way. I didn't care for that at all.

All the stuff had to go in the cupboards you were standing by. And I went, okay, no, no, no, no.

Now you're in my way, and now I'm annoyed.

So I just hurried and did it as fast as I could and got out of the way. Now move. Now get out. Yeah, never mind. You said. No, no, never mind. I didn't want that. Go sit down. Okay.

Last night. Oh, go ahead. No, you go. I was gonna say last night you asked me a question and I finally have an answer, but what were you gonna say?

Oh, I was just gonna say last night I was listening to Hamilton. Yeah. In the kitchen while I was cooking dinner. Yep. And I asked you.

If you had to be any character or could be any character in the musical, who would you be?

And you had to think about it. Like you don't already know.

I yeah, I know. I know now. I can't even believe it. Okay. Peggy. Be so for real right now. And Peggy. Uh I think Is that what you pick? No, that's not what I picked.

Okay, what do you pick? Uh I think Jonathan, it's groff, right? King George? Yeah, I think he did such a uh great job as King George that I I I would not ever do the part justice, but I think that's my favorite part. Okay. I love the sarcastic jokey attitude, the the poutiness of it, the the whole character's fantastic. Okay, good pick. I think King George is who I would pick.

Good pick, Josh. Yeah. I picked You said Burr. Well, yeah. If I was in that vocal range, I'd pick Burr, because his part.

You didn't say who vocal range. Oh, you have to. Oh, then definitely Peggy.

I picked a boy and a girl. Yeah. Part. So then I would probably pick um if I was playing the woman, an actress. I it's it's a tough one for you.

You want to be Angelica, right? Kind of. But I have to do it. You want to be Angelica Skyler.

I want to be uh Eliza too. Yeah. And Peggy. She's got bur that song Burn that she sings. It's a good one. But Angelica, she's so good. I know. Um I can't believe whenever I hear uh a song, I know exactly what part I want to play in that song. Whether it's a musical or just uh

Yeah, because you also said I want to be the drummer in this song. Yeah. Yeah.

I know exactly what part I want to play in every song. I don't do that. I can't even believe you.

I just enjoy listening. I don't put myself in there.

Because when I'm in the car and I hear those songs, I am that person. I embody that person, whether it's the drummer or the singer or the most of the time it's checks out.

I've seen that in action. I have seen you be like I am super good. And I'm playing the guitar. In every song. No, I'm saying you. Like that's what you like all of a sudden you're like Yeah, it changes. Yeah, you'll play different parts of the song, the same song. Yeah. Yeah. So you are the band.

Sometimes the guitar is my steering wheel, and so then I'll strum the steering. Is that right? Yeah.

I don't know if I've seen that, but that makes sense.

Or my the gear shift. Yeah. Is your guitar? Yeah. I think I've seen that. And I go, no, no, no.

What song is it that goes? Oh, so many. Yeah. That's true. That is true. No, I don't do the insertion thing where I'm like, I'm now in this band in my head. I think I uh like I'll sing along sometimes, or I'll, you know, drum on the steering wheel or whatever. Uh but I d I don't do it in a way that says like if you need me to fill in, I got you. I don't know.

I could in a second. Yeah. Name the song in the band. I'll fill in. Tell me.

A Deaf Leopard one. I know you'd do it. See? Do it in a second. I know you would. You'd be like, I am Deaf Leopard. I am Joe Elliott. Right. Yeah.

You need me to fill in, Joe? I got you. Yeah, I'm there.

And he's like, you know some of the words. Rock of Ages. Yeah, see? That's not even Oh, cool guitar.

I told you. I could do it. I can do it all.

and He made a face. You were very much all of a sudden on stage with the lights on and the pyro going on. I know. You were like, this is it.

I've practiced my whole life for this moment. Yeah, Van Halen. Uh, no.

You're not gonna fill in for Van Halen.

No, but I will fill in for Van Hagar. Because I like Sammy Hagar better than I like. What's his name? David Lee Roth. Diamond Dave. Yeah, I'm okay. I know I'm gonna get a lot of flack for that because people Van Hay, huge Van Halen diehards are like, no, it's David Lee Roth forever. No. Forever. Sammy Garris better. You know it. You know it's true. Just admit it. Might as well. also am I'm not like a super Van Halen super fan. Yeah.

Well, but you said any band, name the song, name the name of the place. I'm filling in. So I was just naming bands that uh the cars. Oh, yeah. I'm staying in that sort of 80s realm for you. I could be Rico Casic. I feel like I'm there. I got you the cars. The cars. I got you the cars.

That's the name of their band. Yeah. Is it or is it just cars? Good question. Mm-hmm. Let's look it up. Look it up.

Is the official Oh you're you really went for it. You know what I would have typed? The cars band.

No, you had to look official. It is the cars. Yeah. Okay. See? I can fill in, but you cannot. Hey, settle down.

I don't know that I want to fill in, but

song would you fill in for the cars? Lately I've been jiving on that. Um Now I can't think of the song. Oh, man.

You might think is probably a good one.

Oh, that's so good. That's such a good one. Yeah, I think that's uh

that's a good one to want to fill in on. Or magic.

Uh, let's listen to some cars. You got some you need some? Okay. I love the cars.

It sounds weird saying the cars.

What's the one that I've been listening to a lot lately? I don't know. Let me look it up. How much time we got to talk about this?

I mean, all day. We got nowhere to be. Just wait for you to look stuff up on your phone. It's fine.

This is what our show is. Just looking things up in real life. Look it up. Since you're gone. Ah, good. Since you're gone. Yeah.

And then And then you dance. Do you know all the words? Or just the Since You're Gone part.

I just know the chorus of that song.

And it's just the since you're gone part. Uh-huh. You just know three.

words. I can't help it. All right. All right. Let's go listen to the city.

Any band, anytime, any place. I got you.

Name that was two you gave me. What's a third one? Three. Who was the third one?

I gave you Def Leopard, Van Halen, and the car.

And the cars, yeah. I could fill in all four of those. Beach Boys. Oh, no. No, thank you. No? I'll pass on that one.

All right. Keith Aben. Do some country. Yeah, I could do some Keith Ebbon. Yeah. Rascal Flats. No. Just their cover of uh of Life as a Highway from the Cars movie.

No. It's gotta be stuff I actually know. Stuff I actually listen to. And I do not have Rascal Flats on any of my playlists. Sorry, Rascal Flats fans.

Well, I'm gonna play uh a good Canadian Brian Adams song here in a second. Could you fill in for Brian Adams?

Yeah, dude. Yeah, yeah, I could. All right. Sing along.

You know how when you're looking at something online and then uh you click away and then it disappears forever. Oh no. That's what just happened. That's what just happened to me.

Okay. I don't know how to ever get it back because it's just gone forever. But uh what I saw, I wanted to talk about, and it was really cool. And uh now I just don't have the pictures to further explain. But uh, there's a school spirit day going on at this school. Can't even tell you if it's around here, can't tell you what school it is.

But it was a middle school, and uh one of their spirit days was fake injury day. I love it. And I like that because people have been been getting a little bit more creative uh with them. Like it used to just be like pajamas. Day. Yeah, exactly. Right. And then it was dressed like Adam Sandler Day.

Yeah, they got a couple of years ago, they were like, let's do something totally different. Yeah, which was essentially pajama day. Which was just basketball shorts.

Basketball shorts and a button-up Hawaiian shirt. Uh yeah.

So dressed like your twin day.

Oh, yeah, twin day is a good one. Twin day is unless you don't have a friend.

Oh, I know. Don't do that. That's sad.

And maybe that's why they got rid of twin day.

Yeah, they should get rid of twin day. They always had like a sports day. Yeah.

Yeah, jersey. Like uh, you always were asking, because you worked in a high school for a while and you were like, Do you have a jersey I can wear? That was before I watched football. That's right. Now you have your own jerseys. You do.

I don't have I have one jersey. Yeah. Of Kirk Cousins. Yeah. When he was on the Vikings. He's not on the Vikings anymore. And that jersey is too small. Try it on. I did the other day. You did?

Yeah, it was too small. Where was I? I don't know. You didn't call me in? No, no, I'm rude. I should call me in. Yeah, I I purposely did not.

Well, that was mean. I would like to have seen that. Yeah, I bet you would have. So anyway, uh this fake injury day. A lot of kids were like bandaged up. A couple of them did like big head wounds. Some of them didn't make up to look like they had black eyes.

Massive head wound hair. Yeah, there was uh a lot of crutches, a lot of like uh like, oh, I did sprain my ankle or you know, have a leg injury, so a lot of the plastic boots people were wearing. Couple of kids had walkers, uh like old people walkers. Uh there was there was quite a bit of different uh different things. One kid got real creative, uh, had some bandage around his arm and then had a plastic knife from the cafeteria. It looked like he'd been stabbed through his arm with it. Uh there were some interesting ones. Be careful if you do that.

Sports day. Like you can't or not sports day, but that spirit day.

Yeah, fake injury day.

Don't bring a real weapon.

Well, no, it was a plastic knife from the cafeteria. Careful, be careful. Yeah, you can't. There's a zero tolerance for that stuff.

Um what was I gonna say? Oh, I saw, I don't know if this was necessarily a spirit day or not, but I saw some school somewhere had like a bring a backpack that's not your backpack.

Anything but a backpack. Yeah, those are fun. I like that too. I think Rigby does one where it's like drive your tractor to school day.

Yeah. Like okay. it's a big day.

Everybody shows up in their combines.

Dad, can I take the combine to school? No, it's too expensive.

Are you kidding me? You're gonna try you're you better leave early because it's gonna be slow going.

I would not be able to drive my combine to school. No? No, I didn't have one. Well, that makes sense.

So you didn't have a big field, you just had a little city lot for your house. You imagine you pull up a combine just to harvest like of a garden in the backyard. You're like, all right, that's done. That was quick. Didn't even fill the hopper. Look at you. No one Oh, I play farming simulator.

I know, and we watch Clarkson's Farm. Yeah. And that too. Also, implements.

Do you need implements for your tractor?

I have never I told you this when you were playing this not too long ago. I said I've never been more attracted to you than when you're playing farming simulator. Yeah.

You want to hear about the uh couple of years I spent moving pipe.

Actually, yes. That yes. You want to hear about it? Yeah, because people get ripped from the city.

Or do you just want me to go do it? Yeah, that settle down.

I get hung up in a lot of these supposed to's.

Give me an example because I feel like I've heard you say, like, well, this is supposed to do this.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

This is it's supposed to be this way.

An example was we had had a little bit of a later afternoon. And so we didn't, by the time I cooked dinner and made dinner and we were eating, it was a little bit after eight. And I feel like yeah. Yeah. I feel like that was a little bit late to eat dinner, and I was like, oh, we're eating dinner so late. But then I was like, but this is what our day was today. And so then it was like, you're supposed to eat dinner like six or seven, and this is too late to be eating dinner. And then I just get hung up on these, like, you're supposed to do this, you're supposed to do that. That's an interesting thing. I know.

I don't do that. But I but I'm that's very interesting.

I sometimes tell you in passing, like, I don't like to cook, but I feel like I'm supposed to

because Ah, yes, because it's a like a stereotypical thing.

Like a society, a societal thing says that well, the woman is supposed to do all the cooking, but I don't like it. And you do. Right.

And so I've times they are a change.

I'm trying to get out of my supposed to's. I see. Or the way that like I was brought up. Yeah.

Well, and it was a different time. Yeah. I mean, that's that's ultimately the thing. Like, you know, and not that we're like super super old, but for a lot of time, you might have only had one working parent, and you might have had one stay at home, and that was typically the the mom was a stay-at-home mom, and dad went to work. And then that was just the way things were for a lot of people. And I think over time that changed, and it became like a requirement that you had to have two working incomes to support a household. And I I don't think that the supposed to's of our upbringing and our parents' upbringing are the same as the way things work together.

Well, and it doesn't matter, even if it was it doesn't matter.

Sure, you can do your own thing for sure. Yeah. Your life the way you want to. Yeah. I mean, nobody's babysitting you. You gotta you gotta make it work. You got bills to pay.

Yeah, dinner at eight. That's what time you eat dinner. It's not a big deal. Right.

And you ate dinner.

So when I that's a win. And you like to cook. And I don't like it.

So just I do enjoy it. I like the process of it. I like trying new recipes. I like figuring things out. I like challenging myself in the kitchen. Uh, I like to uh you were talking about being in the band and where where do you fit in? I do have like when I am uh in the process, I do like to figure out like could I hack it as a chef? Would I would I be able to do the food prep required to make multiple meals? Like that's a hard thing. That's a very big challenge.

Do you do that?

I think about it, yeah, because I think it like culinary was something I wanted to study and do, and I just didn't. But like even like learning new kitchen techniques on how to uh how to cut an onion.

Like how like there's a lot of ways to cut an onion, and some people feel like their way is more efficient or better, or is more of a standard for the industry, and I'm like, hey man, if I get a diced onion and it works for me, and yeah, then who cares, right? Get out of your supposed to's. Yeah. So I get stuck in a little bit of that, but most of my stuff is the same thing I do with anything. I get stuck in like technique, I get stuck in like research and knowledge. And then I end up like learning too much about it and never doing the thing to practice. Yeah, you do that. I do that with everything. I go like if I learn about it, I'll be a master of it.

But you've actually got to turn around and do the thing. And I think I that's the thing I get stuck on. I'll research and research and research and research till I'm like, I know everything I could possibly read or learn about this thing. And then I go like, okay, now I'm bored with it. And then I don't ever do it. That's that's hard. So you get stuck in supposed to's. I get stuck in like info dump.

Well, so I looked it up. It was like, well, how do you get out of these supposed to's? Um, and then you have to, it says that you should ask yourself who actually made the rule. Is it a rule you made yourself?

Is it something that your parents gave you? Is it a society expectation? And then ask what would happen if you didn't do the thing you're supposed to do. Right. No one's going to gonna die if we ate dinner at eight o'clock.

Everybody ate dinner.

We're supposed to eat dinner at six, not eight. No. Ah, chill out.

We were supposed to eat dinner and we did. And we did. So there you go. That's the win. This is terrifying.

Listen to this. There was a woman who she's from New York, and she um stepped outside in her own backyard and fell into an eight foot deep sinkhole. Whoa. Sinkholes are so scary to me, dude. Eight foot deep. Yeah.

So here's here's uh to me in my mind. I I think there are like crazy instances where the crust of the earth just has had enough. Yeah. And you see those like giant ones in uh, you know, I don't know, like South America. I've seen it swallow cars. Yeah, like boom, big giant sinkhole, and they're like way deep. Scary. An eight foot deep one. I feel like there's probably a water leak. Yeah. That eroded the earth underneath, and then when she stepped out, it opened up because there was uh her body was enough weight to it was push through.

It was deep, but it was kind of narrow. Okay, and so she got a little bit trapped in there and she was struggling to be breathe. Luckily, she was screaming for help and her neighbors hurt her, so they ran over, found out where she was, and then called 911.

Um I'm not laughing about the situation, but the the picture of the sinkhole. Have you seen it? No. So it's it's it's not big. I mean, like, I get it's deep. Like it's eight feet deep. That's a big deal.

Uh it was also her birthday. Yes. Uh, but the picture has this like it's just grass, and then there's like this hole. Oh, yeah. And then her crocs are laying there, like abandoned. That's It's so scary.

Um so she thinks it was an old well. Yeah. And then that didn't see that one. That's how that joke goes.

Yeah, I agree. There had to have been something there.

And the old stone of the well was crumbling beneath her. Right. Holy, so scary. I don't know. Sinkholes scare the living daylights out of me. Do they? Oh, yeah.

You just do the ground opening up to swallow you is a frightening thought.

Have you seen videos of sinkholes? Yes. It's terrifying.

Yeah, some of these, you know, really big ones are crazy. But most of the time it's because there's been erosion under the surface, whether that's water or some sort of tectonic event um has happened that is has caused an unrest and there creates a cavity underneath the surface, and enough weight gets on top of it that the crust just crumbles, or the road or whatever uh, you know, the surface is just disappears into the hole.

I'm watching the video, and because she has a camera on her backyard, and so the the her house camera captured everything. But her dog keeps going over to the place where she's trapped, and he's like, hey. I don't know how to help you.

She was eight feet down. So did she go all the way in? I think so. I think so. I mean, I'm not eight feet tall, so I'm gonna be like in this hole. I know that's what I'm saying. Listen, if you if you ever can't find me, check for holes. Sinkholes?

Yeah. Like I might be in a sinkhole. You just never know. That's what I'm saying And and that's a scary place to be. So I'm just saying, if like you're like, I know he went out back, but I haven't seen him in a while, and his car's here. Maybe try calling. Try to call me. Yeah, if you have your phone. Yeah, first, but then like if I don't answer, check for holes. Okay.

That's where I'll first go. Also, the dog, I'm like, hey, haven't you seen Lassie?

Yeah, aren't you supposed to do something? Timmy's in the well. Yeah.

Do something. So scary.

Help your human. Scary scary.

We talk a lot about football on this show, but what we haven't talked about is some of the local ties to the NFL.

We've talked about Ashton Genty. Yes. Uh, who was a running back at BSU. Uh, and we got to see him uh play, which was uh really super cool because he is a beast.

We saw him break some records, which was really cool at the game that we were at in Boise. Yeah, on the blue. A couple of years ago.

Yep. And then we watched him get drafted. Uh not this year, but last year he got drafted uh to the uh the Raiders in Las Vegas. So that's pretty fun to see. Kellen Moore. Also from BSU. Now the coach of the New Orleans Saints. Correct. And they won. So he has his first NFL win.

I get all of my football stats from Beck because he is the he is the football stat king. Yeah. And he is like, yeah, Kellen Moore is a really, really good coach. So here we go. And then that's pretty cool. And then Kenyan Sadiq, who went to Skyline High School.

That is correct.

Same high school I went to. A tight end for the New York Jets who is doing really, really well. Yeah.

He has uh his stats so far this season, five receptions, 38 yards. Uh so he's averaging 7.6 yards per carry, which is pretty good. No TDs yet. We gotta we gotta get a Sadiq touchdown.

I thought he did have a TD.

Not yet. We gotta see that happen. I'm looking at his stats right here. Yes. Okay. Zero touchdowns so far.

So he grew up in McCammon. Okay. And then transferred to Skyline his sophomore year. Okay. is Which is very cool. And then he went to Oregon for college and then got drafted to the Jets.

Look at You guys. You guys, there's so much local football when you're watching football. You guys. You guys. You guys.

So between the what? The Raiders, the Saints, and the Jets.

Yeah, I mean, that's just that easy. You got three people. And I'm sure there's more.

I'm sure there's more. Those are just the ones that we know of. Anytime we're watching something, I go, tell me about that player. Or tell me about that coach. And Beck will be like, oh, this guy was from he just casually mentions it. Oh, that guy went to Boise State. And I go, what?

Well, every time they show uh the the coach, he goes, Oh, Boise State legend. Mylan Moore. Every time. Boise State legend.

Okay. I actually like him. I don't know much about him, but what I have seen of him, I like. I didn't think I would be a Saints fan, but I'm slowly.

Oh, here you go. You love the I like the stories. I like nice people. Yeah. I like nice people in sports. Like you watch people like they do a nice charity thing.

You're like, oh, I have to like them now. Well, yeah. Oh. Who was it that you were looking at the other day and and you were like, who what's their wife?

And you pulled her up and you're like, they're a nice couple. Oh, it was uh Kittle, uh not Kittle, it was uh Van Ginkel. Yeah, Van Ginkel. Yeah, you were looking at Van Ginkle, who's on the Vikings. He's he's one of your guys. Yeah. And you were like, I like Van Ginkel now.

Well, I did like Van Ginkel before, but then you have to look at their family. I was like, is he married? What do his kids look like? What is his what is his wife look like?

What do they do? And I like when the families look like a normal sometimes. these sports wives are like Over the top, yeah, done up, and you're like, I can't get behind that. But Van Ginkle looks like everyday people, and then like that.

Someone should write a song about everyday people. That could that'd be a hit. I'll bet you.

Uh that's a good rhythm. You should sell that to somebody. Do you want to go on a little bit of a rant? A little bit of uh a little bit of a rage rant. Potentially, potentially. I don't know.

Well, let me just tell you what the type of show we do.

I understand. And I'm not trying to be cranky, but I do want to talk about spatial awareness. And when you are in a social setting or a public setting, the grocery store, uh, especially the grocery store. Um, but I would say also like just out in public in general, you should be aware that there are other people that exist in the planet. Uh huh. Uh on the planet.

And so if you need to tell this to my mom.

If you freeze in a doorway, or you hog the entire sidewalk, or you plant yourself in front of an exit, or you go out the in and in the out at some stores, like it's clearly labeled at the top of the door, which way is in and out. Like just read. It sounds like you have a rant.

I have a little bit of a rant. Um don't block the whole aisle with your conversation in your shopping carts. Uh just get out the way. Go stand somewhere else. My mom isn't in the path.

My mom is very guilty of standing in the way of other people. Like it's just spatial awareness. I went with her not too long ago. We went to uh a theater. Yeah like a live theater.

Yeah. And there was a lot of people coming and going. Everyone was trying to get and she would she would get off the elevator and just stop right outside the elevator and be like, You gotta move walking.

What are you doing? If you need to stop, then go to the side and stop. And then I told her that, and she'd go, oh, oh. And then it would happen again.

You gotta get her one of those leash backpacks.

Yeah, I do too. And then we'd walk out of the door and she'd stop again. I'd be like, you can't stop. Right. You gotta move to the side and then stop. Why are you stopping right here?

I mean, I feel like we all learned about this in high school and middle school. Trying to navigate the population of the hallway. If you stop, you're gonna get run over. Move on the way. You gotta.

Here's what you need to do. These people that don't have a lot of spatial awareness and they get in the way. Take them to a busy city like New York, where people are going, going, going. Right. You gotta move. And they will run you over.

They'll just yell at you, too. They'll be like, move. And you're like, I'm I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Like you don't stop in the path. Anyway. That is uh that that's just my rant. I just want people to have a little bit more spatial awareness of you know, and consideration of other people in in existence. That's all. You know? I or we'd give everybody a bike bell

and more of a big thing. I'm also guilty of this too, because the other day I was at the store and I needed to look up something, and I didn't think I was in the way, and I had just stopped and I was looking at my phone, and then there was an excuse me behind me, and I went, I'm really sorry. So I'm also guilty of that on occasion.

What about if someone does that? You turn around and go, no. Oh no. Just for the confrontation. Just to just to see what it's like. I hate confrontation. What would happen if somebody was like, oh, excuse me, and you're like, no. What? No. What would you do if you're on that side of it? Where you were like, oh, sorry, excuse me. And they just looked at you and said, No. What would you do? I would just go away.

I would pick a different path. I would say, okay, see you later. Right. Okay, I can't. That's too stressful. Don't let the aggressor win. No, I can't. I will go, yes. Excuse me. Again. And then run my card into them.

That's a that's an option. Not a good option. Also, put your cart back. That's a big thing for me, too.

One rant at a time, Josh. One rant at a time. All right. Can't do that right now. That's not what our show is about. Okay. Take it down. We provide lightheartedness. Lightheartedness. Yeah. No one rant. Okay. Per day. All right. Today was spatial awareness. Tomorrow. Put away your shopping cart.

Would you rather this or that?

Would you rather wear the same outfit every day or eat the same meal every day?

Uh outfit. I can do laundry, but I like variety in my food.

I I was gonna pick the same thing. Yeah. You better make it a good outfit. Well. You better make it something that you look good in, something that you feel good in, and something that can work for every type of event. That's a good point. Going to a wedding? Going to a funeral.

Well, listen, going to work. The people around me are gonna have questions that if they if I if I'm getting invited to a wedding, they already know I'm a one outfit guy. They they can't know. How can they not know? Every time they see me, I'm in the same outfit. They're gonna have questions.

Yeah, they're gonna have questions, but you can't answer.

They're gonna say, is that the same thing? You only own one outfit. And you say, Yep. Yeah, that's it. They'll know. They'll know I'm a one outfit guy. My problem is if it's shorts, that's not gonna be great in the winter. Yeah. If it's pants, it's not gonna be great in the summer. Yeah. Or for swimming or for hiking. Swimming. I know. I got one outfit.

Yeah, one outfit. You better make it very, very versatile.

Zip off pants. I'm doing that. Cool.

That's gonna look good at a wedding. Zip off pants.

It's what I it's what I'm gonna go with.

Hey Josh, we need to uh have a meeting with the owner of the company.

Perfect. Let me put on my pant legs. I'll be right down. As soon as I put on my pant legs. Now, shirt. I need zip off sleeves. I'm going Gonna have to work on that. You're gonna have to get crafty.

Yeah. I need z I need uh zip off lapels for formals. I need zip off sleeves for casuals and more important things. I need uh, you know what I could do is I could have just a t-shirt, right? That then had uh zip on sleeves or some sort of attachable sleeves, but then also had like Velcro or magnets or something. So when I want it to look like a button up, I slap buttons on and boom, I got a line of buttons. Cool. Yes. One outfit, zip on pants, uh, zip pant legs, uh, and then a customizable magnetic shirt that I can accessorize like a paper doll.

It's gonna look great. I can't wait to see it.

Formal, boom, magnetic lapels, buttons, clip on tie. So I have a storage tote of my shirt accessories.

Okay, but then don't forget about the shoes.

Yeah, right. No, I'm wearing whatever's comfortable. Just sneakers. It's gonna be these trail runners. Yeah. But magnetic shoe covers.

You go through an awful lot of magnets here.

You're paper dolling my outfit. I get one base layer and I paper doll everything and my zip on legs. That's it. I solved it. I win. I'm a fixer. One outfit. Congratulations. And a variety of different foods.

Carry your Tupperware with you. What'd you pick?

That would I said you're gonna paper doll?

No, I'm not gonna paper doll. I'm just gonna wear the same outfit. What is it? I don't know yet. I don't know yet. Maybe a dress. Like a casual dress with like a sweater. Good luck. I know my legs are gonna be cold, but that's all I got. You're gonna swim in that? Yes. Like old times. I'm gonna have to.

Like the old timey 1920s swimsuits. That was a look. I need to get some of that. Do you? Yeah, I like that like one piece jumper. That's a hot look. The like faded stripes in it. That's nice. It doesn't even seem like that was real.

And baggy in all the wrong parts. Yeah, it's just terrible.

But I'm in the ocean, so deal with it.

I did a workout the other day, Monday.

Yeah, your basement solo workout in jeans. And I targeted legs and booty. Okay.

And ever since then, my thighs. Yeah. They got targeted. Or on fired, bro.

But I was telling you that I don't know your workout plan, so I don't know what it says. But for me, if I go and do a workout, let's say I do arms, and I'm like, man, my arms are so dead, like I can't even lift up a pencil.

Okay. Going and working out the next day and hitting those muscles again is going to help build that strength. Third day, hitting those muscles, it's gonna go like this is the worst day ever. But then I go, okay, I'm building the muscle, like I'm I know what I'm doing.

That's what I'm like. My idea is to get a little more muscle. I'm trying to get a little more strength. So I'm doing a little bit of strength training.

So I I try to do it uh, you know, like multiple days in a row to to really tell that muscle I'm in charge.

Well, that's not what my you took a rest day for your legs, and you went on a walk, but you didn't do like a workout yesterday. But you had to do a 30-minute walk. Right?

Uh-huh. So day one, workout, day two, 30-minute walk. Now you're day three, and you're still dealing with the pain. Yeah. And you're walking around here, you stand up out of your chair and you go, oh, it hurts.

It hurts more to sit down.

So I said, do some stretches. You gotta stretch those muscles. Because what you're doing when you're when you're working out is you're actually damaging that muscle so that it can recover and rebuild more bigger muscles, stronger ones is uh the goal. So over time, you you break it, repair it, break it, repair it over and over and over. That's what hurts. But you gotta stretch it because that repair

process makes everything makes everything tight this morning. I was gonna put some icy hot on it.

That's an old person thing to say.

It doesn't even matter. I don't even care. Okay. I forgot my icy hot. I did some stretches just a little bit ago, and I it felt better. It feels better. Stretching really does help.

You gotta do it. You gotta stretch. You should be stretching every day.

I know, and I try to. I just forget sometimes. I forget all the time. You do. And we have yoga mats in here when we can stretch. And we have an we have a stretching app. Right. I did some child pose. Felt good. Nice. I did some lunging.

It was like a ball lean thing. You had to do. No, I didn't do that one. You did right here on the counter.

I just use that for balance. Oh.

It looked like a wall lean. Not a wall sit, but a wall lean. Yeah. Yeah. No, I didn't do that. Like to stretch your calves and stuff. Oh, yeah. That was yesterday.

I did a stretching on my legs yesterday. Oh. Uh, let me find out. Do you care what it is? Should I find out? Whatever you want to share. I'm here for you.

So if that's something you want to share, cool.

I don't remember what it was. It doesn't matter. Hold on, I can find it. Okay. It was uh nope, not that. Oh, it doesn't matter. All right. Anyway, it just worked. Stretching works. Stretching really does help.

It it certainly does. It's why you've been doing it since you did the presidential fitness. Ew. Ew. V sit and reach. Gross. Yeah.

Find a partner. We're gonna do some sit-ups. Ugh. Hold my feet. And don't giggle. Oh, also. Keep it down. Don't giggle. It's don't do something else.

Right. That would make somebody else giggle. Don't do it.

Oh, and then after we're gonna do sit-ups, we're also gonna run the bleachers. Yes. Get out of here. Whose idea was it to do that? Then here's your certificate. I never got a certificate. You didn't? No. I'm cheated.

That was the whole point. The presidential fitness award was a certificate.

Clearly, I wasn't in the running for that. Because I knew nothing about that. Did everybody get one? Yes. I didn't know.

You got you got like a patch. No. And a certificate. No. Yes. I did not. The the presidential fitness award was the physical paper signed by the president and the little patch that says presidential physical fitness award.

No. I did not ever get that. No kidding. No, never. Yeah, I had the yellow one.

The one that says participant. I didn't get that. Mm-hmm. No. No, I never did. Maybe I had the red one. National Physical Fitness Award. It might have been.

So it would have been, let's see. Who was president in the 1990s? You would have done it. It would have been Clinton.

Or and Bush, probably. Bush. Yeah. Bush senior. Yeah. Huh.

I never I never got that. I never got an award. I ran those bleachers. I did those sit-ups. I didn't get any kind of award. I don't even think I got a high five. No kidding. I am cheated. Well, I wonder.

I don't think I still have it.

I did all that, but nothing. I'm sorry to hear that. It's fine. We gotta end the show. Okay. You're bummed out. Sorry.

Have a great rest of your day. We'll see you back here tomorrow. Bye. Bye.
