Full show transcript:
We're back and it's another week of shows. Today is show number where are we at?
Do you have any idea? No, I'm not. I don't keep track. You don't keep track. I don't. Why? Because I wait you do.
This is episode 544.
Look at that. Look at us. Isn't that crazy? Um, okay. We attended a street party um over the weekend where we had to dress in 90s attire. And we talk a little bit about that in the show coming up, but what didn't get mentioned was that I borrowed my daughter's Doc Martins. I never had Doc Martins in the 90s because my parents never bought them for me because they were too expensive.
That's weird, because if you would have spent a little less on Canadian waters, you probably could have had some.
I bought those with my own babysitting money.
You should have saved up your money to buy. Doc Martens.
You're right. I should have, but I didn't. Um anyway, so my daughter just kept telling me you have to wear tall socks, Mom. You have to wear tall socks. And I think she said that because she knew I would get blistered, but she also knew that I don't typically wear tall socks. I wear ankle socks. Right. So as I was getting ready, not a tall sock in my inventory. Well, I do have tall socks, but they're like wool ones that are wearing.
They're merino wool. Yeah, they're not like heavy wool. No, but I have both. Okay. But you wore the merinos, and those are nice.
No, I didn't end up wearing those. You didn't?
No. I thought you had the ones with the flowers on them.
Yeah, those are not.
They're merino wool. No. They're smart wool socks.
No, they're not. I didn't wear those. Those are just designer socks. Like just like designers, not designer.
Woo geez.
No, that's not. That's not it. They're just like they had flowers on them, and they said something silly. They were not anything.
Oh, I thought they were I thought they were like uh like smart wools.
No, they were just something silly I bought at like attic salt. Oh, okay. Years and years and years ago.
I don't even think we have one of those anymore. No. Okay. Well, anyway. All right.
I had to dig them from the very, very bottom of my soccer.
I have like a whole basket of socks. You could have borrowed some.
I have to now you
say You know I have silly socks. I have a b a bushel of a many bushels. I have a whole cardboard box full. Well, now you say. You didn't ask.
I did. You were in the room and I said I don't even have a tall sock.
Hey, do you have any I could borrow? You just said I don't have any, and you were just kept. And then you walked away. Yeah. Cool. Thanks for your help. You're welcome. I wore tall socks as well. You couldn't tell because I was wearing pants.
I know. You couldn't tell that I was wearing tall socks. But she was right. I would have gotten blistered if I hadn't worn them. So keep a pair of tall socks on hand. Just in the world. In your inventory.
Hey, here is today's show. Good Hey, good morning. Hi.
Did you have a rough night of sleep? Yeah. Okay. Because you walked out. I was putting on my shoes. Yeah. You walked out, and you go, you looked kind of confused. I don't. You kind of stumbled out. And then you go, what day is it? Yep.
And you said Monday. And I went, nope.
You said I don't want it to be Monday. I don't. I said, well, here it is.
Not only here it is, but also get dressed. You gotta go to work. And it's early, and it's still dark outside.
And it's getting real chilly in the mornings.
And Orion, the constellation returned. And so for the first time I got to say, well, welcome back, Orion. Oh, I want to see it. We gotta look up early in the morning. I we can go out there and still see it. The sun's not all the way up yet.
Okay. But the Orion constellation is a winter constellation for where we live, and it was back this morning. Today isn't today the first day of fall.
Officially, yes. Is it September 21st? First day of fall. It's tomorrow. Why is it the 22nd? It's never been the 22nd. I don't know. Because it's like March 21st and September 21st. Like those are the spring and summer.
Also, today is the 21st of September. Yes. Do you remember?
Oh, is that right? You got all day to use that. So you use it wisely. The 21st day of September. Night. Night? Uh-huh. Just tonight. Do you remember? Yeah.
I don't. It'll be September. Anyway. Is that right? That's uh that's a thing. That's happening. But you can only use it today. So use it up.
And then today is your last day of summer. Are you sure? Josh, I just looked it up. Whoa. It arrives. Here's what's funny. It arrives at 6.04 PM mountain time with the astronomical Autumn Equinix. Mm-hmm. Autumn. Do you say autumn or autumn? I say autumn equinox. You don't say autumn.
And I also don't say equinix.
Whoa. Don't be rude. I had a little I had a little bit of a fluff.
I didn't want it to be Monday. Okay, but do you say autumn? No. Okay. Whoa. I say autumn.
Go back to bed. Please. May I? You can't. That sounds awesome. Golly. Well. It was a short weekend. I know. I had to work a lot. Yeah, I know. Me too.
I only got I didn't even get to go to look at the mountains. We were supposed to do that.
I know. And guess what else? What else? We don't have any other days to do that, and then it's gonna be over again.
The leaves are gonna have to go on a weeknight.
I don't know if we'll be able to. We're just gonna have to. Okay. It's the way it's gonna go. All right. I will do my best. We were gonna go take some family pictures and the day just didn't happen.
Didn't the one weekend day. Yeah, I know. Yeah.
Well, because you can't pry football out of your son's.
He didn't want to go take pictures anyway. No, he never does. He was like, I'm not doing that. Anyway. Superimpose. Hey. Hey. Hi. Hi. Good morning. This is a guy called uh Pete Gall.
Okay. And he is from Frankfort, Kentucky. And he just pulled off a pretty incredible feat of endurance and charity. He ran 450 miles across Kentucky in 19 days while raising money for a group called the And Still Foundation. He averaged nearly a marathon every day while he was braving extreme heat. He dealt with swollen Achilles.
He had to dodge hay trucks and narrow country roads. He was motivated to tackle the challenge each day because he was raising money for the Ann Still Foundation, a charity that supports local kids through mentorship and fitness programs. He said, I just felt like people were kind of counting on me, whether they were or not. That's just how I took it. And it kind of gave me uh and he said uh it was he said that's how I took it to kind of give myself a little bit of a mental edge when I was out.
So when he was uh not feeling it, he's like, nah, man, people are counting on me. I gotta do this thing. I gotta get out and finish this. So pretty big deal. 450 miles in 19 days. That's pretty incredible. That is incredible. Well done, buddy. Yeah. Pete Gall running across Kentucky. Gall dang, dude. Good job. Is this G-A-L-L. And it's good news.
Do we want to talk about football now? Or I mean we can. What should we do?
Yesterday was full of it. Uh it was an action-packed day. Your team, you got to watch have a nice little victory. You are starting the season, two and oh.
Two and oh, and as one of the uh broadcasters say, the teams that have a winning record these first couple of weeks, didn't typically make it to the playoffs.
Okay, well, here's the other thing that all of the uh they're not called pundits, but it's a funny word to use. All of them, guess what else they say? What'd they say? All of them chose Chicago to beat your team. They sure did. Every single one of them. They sure did, and they all were wrong, they were totally wrong.
Now, do you think they would have been wrong had the quarterback of the bears not been?
Caleb Williams hadn't been injured, possibly, possibly, but situations being what they are.
Yeah, we held our own. Get out of here. My defense was killing it. You crazy.
My defense, listen to you.
Now, here's what the Vikings have the best celllies celebrations, touchdown celebrates.
Touchdown celebrations, yeah.
It that was all responsible a couple of seasons ago. That was all because of Cam Bynum. Sure. He was the one that was kind of in charge of the touchdown celllies, and they did uh parent trap. Oh, they did some great ones, so many good ones. And then he left and is now playing for the Colts. So I lost my dance coordinator for my team.
It seems like they did okay last night.
They did awesome last night because they did a hot dog celly.
That's right. And I have the hot dog music on demand. And they did this dance in the end zone. It was awesome. And it was fantastic.
That's actually my favorite part about football. Is the celebration celebrations?
Yeah, it's a good part to like. That is for sure. Uh and uh, and so that I guess like what else happened? The Bengals won. I mean, what where do you what else do you want to talk about?
Oh, I was just gonna say they do like a top ten or a top five touchdown. Yeah, and then they do every touchdown.
Yeah, if you're watching Red Zone, uh, which is what we typically watch, yeah. We watch Red Zone on Sunday, because then we can watch all the games at once. Yeah. I wish they would show the celllies because I really love the touchdown celebrations. It's my favorite part of
what's send an email over to Red Zone and say I want to see those celebrations. Um Is that you typing that email right now. Yes. Okay. Uh Bengals beat the Texans, which was a big deal for our son 20 to 6. That was a a really like we were watching the game, watching the game, watching it, and then they quit showing it because the Bengals had so much control of it. We never even saw anything after all the big plays.
We did not watch the Saturday Sunday night game. Because gross. Yeah, I don't care.
Uh Ravens lost, which you were upset about to the Saints. Um I don't know, what else happened?
The Raiders won. We like the Raiders.
We got to watch cousins and Ashton Janty. We got to watch the Patriots, uh, destroy the Steelers and also quite physically destroyed Aaron Rodgers. Dude. That he people are saying he will probably quit. Like people are like, he's probably just gonna leave.
His back bent and high.
That was crazy. That was crazy.
Your body's not supposed to do that.
Yeah, they lost to the Patriots 20 to 3. Uh, we did get to see Kirk Cousins and Ashton James.
But I said, Yeah, I love them. That's my new favorite duo. Is it? Yes.
Yeah, they're fun to watch, and they won 26 to 14. Uh, the Broncos won, which is a big deal.
Let me tell you, I watched a video. Uh Kirk Cousins is why I'm in football. Why I'm into it. Yeah. And he had a video of TikTok where he said that he is the only one in a group chat. He tries to text all of the dudes, and nobody responds.
Some will reply with emojis, but they never text back. And he feels very sad about it.
Porker cousins. I know. Somebody give him a text back.
Or don't just keep the keep the gag going. Uh Broncos won and uh also the Seahawks won. 31 to 7 over the Cardinals.
So look at the sports report. Yeah. Sports report.
Yeah, well, you wanted to talk about it, so I guess we will. You had an emotional day, though, because you were kind of ups and downs about your team, and then uh, you know, things were going a little sideways, and you were like, this is crazy. And then what's his name? Caleb Williams is his name.
Yeah. Quarterback of the of the uh Bears. He got hurt, and then that whole game went your direction. Dude, I'm number one in my division. Yeah. Look at you. Two weeks in.
Me and KOC, man. We're ruling that team.
Oh, is that right? You and Coach. All right. Well, there's Chantel's football thing.
I saw I saw a video the other day that said I asked my husband why he never seems to worry about anything. Which is it's pretty standard for our relationship. You always have to do a relax. Yeah, chill out. Chill out. Take it easy. Chin up.
Why are you so worried? Like, what is going on? Yeah.
And you said, what would be your response if I said, why don't you ever worry?
Well, what I saw was one of the greatest responses ever. Do you remember what it said? Yeah. I don't make up fake scenarios that don't ever happen, so I don't have to worry about all this stuff.
But if you don't worst case scenario something, how do you know how it's gonna turn out? No, you know? No. No. That's a waste of energy. I just there are people in the world who have loads of anxiety. I.e. me.
Yeah. And then there are people who just like sail through life. They're like, easy if life is easy breezy.
Not that life is easy breezy, but you just take the worry when there's something to be worried about. Yeah, try that. Oh, I don't even know how. I don't even know how you'd get started doing that.
Stop doing what you're doing. And it will naturally be the thing that's left over. You know, I don't start doing anything. I just don't do the other thing. Yes, see. What do you mean? Yeah, exactly.
You don't start doing what? Say that again.
You said how I wouldn't even know how to start doing that. There's nothing to start. There's only the thing you're doing that needs to stop. Okay.
So just stop doing that. And what will be left is not that. Okay. I got what you're saying. Yeah. Easy. Breezy. I'll just jump on in on that. Sure thing. It It's it is the right answer, though. We did. Don't make up fake scenarios and overthink things and rethink things and rehash them and run them 600 different ways in your head. That's just chaos, man.
I do do that. I do do that.
Because over here, I'm not doing that. And then you're like, what are you thinking about? And I'm like, literally nothing.
I know. And our kids have anxiety. And I'm like, why didn't you just pay attention more to your dad? He's chilled. Look at him. Look over at him. And they look at you and they're like, I don't know how to be like that. I'm like, he's got no stress. I'm you have stress. I have plenty of stress.
But it's not made up scenarios in my head. I'm not stressed about that.
What's the thing I read? I said there was something that said, I usually can tell when someone's mad at me when I make up a fake scenario in my head. Right. And pretend that they're mad at me. Yeah. And then I go, those people are mad at me. Cool.
That's good use of your time. It's healthy, right? I'm sure it is. That's totally up. Keep that up. No way, man. You gotta, you gotta chill. Chill down, as the kids say. Chill down. Yeah.
When we went skydiving, you're constantly telling me to chill down. But when we went skydiving, indoor skydiving. Yes.
Let's be clear. We weren't doing the whole adrenaline rush of jumping out of an airplane. Not that it wasn't its own adrenaline rush, but go ahead.
Um they had to give you hand signals because it's too loud for them to talk to you in there. And one of them was uh hang loose.
And it's like a you gotta relax your body. So yeah, we still do that.
You said, Yeah, we're gonna take that into our daily life, and I'm gonna.
Because then I can do it when you're in the middle of something and I can tell you're having a moment. I can throw you the hang loose, and you can go, like, oh yeah, relax my body.
Yeah, I like it. I like that you decided to bring that on with us. Because you use it quite often, and I go, Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Thanks, babe.
Yeah, I don't know if you do, but I try. I hang loose a lot. You do hang loose a lot. Oh, yo, yo, yo, hey, over here. I go, Oh, okay, okay. No, you don't you look at me with like dark eyes and then you turn away. I don't want to I'm busy being crazy right now.
I want to fret and frown. You Don't tell me what to do. I've gotten better. At what? Relaxing and not worrying it so much. What language was that?
I misunderstood. I think you were speaking a different language. Did you say you've gotten better at it? Yeah. Okay. You've gotten better at worrying about things and making up scenarios, maybe. No, Josh. I've gotten better. Okay. If you say so. We'll go with that. Okay. In the meantime. Relax. Chill. Be cool. I am cool. I am relaxed.
Calm. Just look at me. Uh-huh. Very zen. Yeah. Nice.
I haven't posted a video that is one of the greatest videos. I'm going to remake it. Uh, and that's why I haven't posted it yet. Um, but you've got a you've got a talent, and everyone needs to see it. Yeah.
You're so rude.
You're the one that said I could post it.
I did. Cause I am not above making a fool of myself. That's what I do on the daily.
And uh essentially, I thought it was funny. There's there's a viral video trend that's been going around for a little while. It's been around for I mean, I've seen it for months, but uh it came up spontaneously, and I went, no, no, no. I'm recording this and I'm turning this into a video. But the the trend is you get someone to say a noise, and it could be what's what sound does uh uh this make. And I've seen people do it with like a jackhammer. What's the sound a jackhammer makes? And then they'll take whatever the sound is that someone says, and they dub that over a video of a jackhammer, and it's hilarious. Yeah, and it like I've seen it where like in an auto shop, they'll say, like, what uh what sound does the pneumatic tire wrench make? Uh, and then they'll make the noise, and then they dub that over. So there's one, it's a dinosaur, it's uh it's a Jurassic Park T Rex, and the question is what sound does a T Rex make?
And you made a noise that our son says was the best T Rex noise he's ever heard. And he wasn't he was not being sarcastic. No, he wasn't yanking a chain, he was being for real. He said, That is very good, and that is the best one I've ever heard. And you were like, Really?
And he goes, Yeah, I haven't heard anybody else come even close to making that good of a sound. And then he, my son was totally on my side, which God bless him.
Appreciate him, because I said, You make a noise, Josh, you make a T Rex noise. I couldn't. I can't. I can't. And then he said, You always do that, Dad.
You always make mom do all kinds of stuff, and then you never do any of it yourself. And I said, Thanks, buddy. Yeah, he was on my side. What? You always do that.
When I never I would never ask you to do something I wouldn't do myself.
And what a lie. You're such a liar. You're a liar. Uh-uh. Anyway, I made a T-Rex noise.
You did. And I've got it, and I'm gonna make the video. I I didn't like the edit because the video of the T-Rex is uh is not full frame and it's bugging me. And so I just want to crop the video so that it's full frame. And then I'll be happy with it. So here's what I also said. What else?
No one actually really knows what a T Rex sounded like. So that could be the closest to the noise. I mean, they've pushed wind through diaphragms. Sure. You know what they do.
Tell me more about what they do because you seem to know a lot about it. Don't Google it. Just tell me what you already know. Because you know stuff, apparently. Tell me.
No, I've told you everything you need to know.
You you started traveling down a road that I knew nothing about. You knew nothing about, and Beck and I had a whole conversation about it because uh because that's a thing scientists have done. Uh they've done that with like King Tut.
They've done that with saber tooth tigers, they've done that with several uh different like Neanderthal men, they've done uh different kinds of uh research on what happens if you push air through a diaphragm. Yeah, can you get the noise back? And so that's what that is, but you knew all about it.
But that's not even an actuality noise. We just are that's a guess. So the noise that I made for a T Rex might be spot on. It just might be.
Well, I'll post the video uh in a little while, and uh everyone can enjoy you making the sound of a T Rex.
Now, to be clear too, I'm wearing a white shirt, and today no, yesterday in the video.
Oh, you're gonna apologize for the dirty dog paws?
Yeah, because my dog had gone outside and then had muddy paws and then jumped on me. So I have a dirty shirt, but it's because of my dog.
I like how and you'll see it in the video, but after you do the noise, you immediately then decide it's time to exit the house. Because I was embarrassed. Yeah, like I'm out of here. And to run away. Yeah. Anyway, you'll see it.
I'll post the video. It's a good time. And good job making a T-Rex noise. You did great. Thank you. Would you like to do it now? No, would you? No, I'd like to hear yours.
Because you don't do anything. Three, two, one go.
Nope. Oh, I thought you were gonna do it. I was so excited.
We went to the 90s street party over the weekend. Yes. We got all dressed up in our 90s gear, which wasn't hard to do because I own a lot of 90s.
We own a lot of 90s gear. And because the 90s are back in a big way as far as fashions, it wasn't difficult to find something that could work.
I saw a uh a post that said, you know why men don't like Facebook memories is because every time they come up, it shows them 20 years ago wearing the same shirt. I went, yeah. Yep. Not a lot changes in my world. That's awesome. Yeah. Okay.
Now you had your ears gauged. Is that what the right word is?
Yeah, so well, I mean, yeah, that's what I had done in the early 2000s.
Oh, so that wasn't even a 90s thing.
I didn't have it done in high school, no. I had it done after I was out of high school, and very cool. It was very cool. Yeah.
They're little though, right?
Yeah, I didn't have them. Like, you know, you'll see people with like you could put your whole thumb or your whole hand through their earlobes. I didn't have that. No.
What made you decide to do that? To gauge them?
Well, at the time, I was uh a DJ on K-Bear, and it kind of was a thing. I needed to have done. You needed to be metal. I needed to be very cool. And so that was kind of originally, it was just part of like the thing. It was uh I was uh and we took them out.
You didn't even have them when I met you.
When you get your ears pierced, if you go and just do a piercing and they use like the gun and they pierce your ears. Uh and they tell you if you take these out, the holes are gonna heal shut. It's different when you do gauges because they actually take out a an actual piece of tissue from your ear, uh huh, and it heals completely differently because the there's missing tissue, so it isn't uh it isn't just pushing a hole through that can then close up. Uh and and so I haven't worn them for a lot of years, and I was like, I don't even know if they'd be able to go back in, but it'd be kind of fun if I could figure out if they could. And so I used the smallest ones that I have, uh, which are a 10 gauge, not very big, and uh they worked.
And now you have your gauges in, which is crazy because when I met you, you were like a skater boy, like that's kind of how you dressed. You dress like a skater dude. And you did a little bit of inline skating.
I did inline, I had a skateboard, like yeah, those were the
things as you've gotten older, you've become more of a backpacker fisherman outdoors.
That is absolutely and that's more aligned with your style these days. Yeah, but over the weekend, you had that skater boy vibe back. Yeah, I was kind of digging it, Josh. Oh, is that right? Yeah. Okay. I because that's the this is the look you had when I first met you. Yeah. I was crazy was transported to a to a younger time.
Wow. I still have a lot of white in my beard. Uh yeah, it's okay. So I was like old skater.
What did I know that we tried to keep it a secret to see if Emery would notice?
She noticed. Uh, and when I mean when she looked at me pretty quickly, she went, What is that? She was very uh like whoa. And she likes them, she thinks they're cool. She's like, You they're cool. They are cool. So I've kept them in because I don't know. I don't know. Eventually I'll probably take them back out.
But well, no, but I want to see how long it takes for people to notice around. You gotta wear them to scouts and see how many of them are.
Oh, they're gonna go, are your ears pierced? They have been for 25 years or so.
Like how cool I am, guys. Um, what else happened at the street party? Lots of good music.
Yeah, great music. Uh we were in charge of kind of handing things out, so I was handing stuff out. Uh our sister station, Z103 had uh had handed out pog slammers, uh, which were really cool. And we found out that younger people don't know what pogs are, which is to be expected. But if we found the sweet spot with who we were handing them to, people went crazy and they went, they went, What is it? And then when they when their brain remembered that they knew what pogs and what a pog slammer was, they went, No way!
And they were super excited. Yeah, you had to find because we we would we would approach people and say, Hey, do you guys want some pogs? And they'd say, What are pogs?
Yeah, you want a pog slammer? I might say, What year were you born? I was born in 1994. I'm like, look it up. Yeah, these were huge when you were born.
Here have one. It's a magnet, you can put it on your fridge if you want.
But if you found people who were our age in the 90s, they would be like, Oh, sick, dude. I haven't heard about pogs for years. That's what they said, huh? For years. For years.
I haven't heard about bogs for years. No, it was cool. It was uh it was a cool event. Yeah. And lots of great music, lots of people, good crowd. Yeah, it was awesome. You we had a corn dog. That was a thing that happened.
I also had a fake nose ring.
That was very, very cool.
of you. Which, Yeah, I wore it yesterday too, just kind of around because I am trying to decide if I want an actual nose ring.
And you and our daughter were like, I think we want to do that. What's funny is we did a video down there and you said it's it's fake, don't stress. I know, I don't know why I said that. Who are you telling to not stress?
I don't know. Nobody cares. I don't know why I said it's your face. Sometimes I say dumb stuff. And that was a dumb stuff. I just I was just asking
who who the don't stress was for. Maybe you don't stress.
No, I don't know. Maybe it was my mom that was like, did she get a nose ring?
You're right. Your mom does watch the videos. You're right. She she would be the one that that was a video for your mom. Don't stress, mom. Chill down. mom.
It's not real. Calm down, but it might be real because I'm thinking about it. Yeah. My only problem is my nose runs a lot, and so I don't want it to get like it'll get runny. I know. See, I don't know about it. But I do want one. I looked cool with one.
Oh, did you? Didn't I? I think the little uh sparkly little sparkly gem on there would be kind of cute. I think so too. Yeah. I'm thinking I know it is. Okay, as long as you know. That's the big deal.
I can handle pain and when they and when they do that piercing, it's not a gun thing. It's it's the needle. And they're gonna go through there, and then you're gonna have that needle sticking through your nose until they push the ring through. it. Gross. I'm thinking about it. I'm still thinking about it, Josh. All right. Well, you keep thinking about it. I am.
I'll be over here. Actually, pierced. Ooh, so cool.
Right. In my earlobes. Like a like a cool guy from the I was born in the 80s, but 90s, early 2000s, skater boy. That was me. Nice to meet you. I still have my receipt.
Which your sister was on the like, she's like, what? Because I I took out my rollerblades, took them out of the bag, and down at the bottom I have the original manual that came with them, and I have the receipt tucked in there. Of course I do.
For your rollerblade. Of course I do. Take them back.
From when I bought them in 1996. I should. I should take the receipt in.
Because the place is still open. And I should go, hey, I bought these like 30 years ago. They don't fit anymore. They still are in good shape. Can I return them? You guys do uh like a buyback? Money back guarantee. Yeah. Dollar for dollar.
Okay. I follow a couple of influencers whose kids have just left for college. And I'm not even kidding you when I tell you that when they sent their kids off to college and they did like a dorm room reveal. It was insane the amount of money that they spent on these dorm rooms.
Now let's let's go back to your college. I had an apartment when I was in school. I didn't have uh a dorm.
But you did you take just stuff that you had? Did you do like extra shopping?
Yeah, for a few things, but not not many, because like I needed some some dishes and a few things. But like we got like the little U-Haul trailer, the small little one. Okay.
And I had my futon, which was my bed. Okay. Uh, because you know, forget about your back, dude.
Who cares? Sleep on a futon. Uh and so I took my futon, I took my entertainment center, um, the one that I had when we met. Uh we went to an electronic store and bought like a computer for me for school and a few different things, and then uh picked up like a laundry basket and some dishes and some stuff like that. Some basics, right? Yeah, the basics.
Like they these people have bought all kinds of like decorations and shelving and fancy lights and brand new bedding. And I'm like, dude, I might have got some new bedding. I took the bedding from my I think I actually got bedding as a graduation gift. Okay. So I think I probably took that.
You're gonna need sheets where you're going. I think that's what I did. All you're gonna have is a mattress on some cinder blocks. Did you do the cinder block thing? No, my roommate did. Yeah.
And she had double cinder blocks. So that was real tall. Huge. Yeah. She had to like jump up there every day. I'm like, that's too much work.
I I could get into like the single cinder block thing to get you a little bit of height so you could store some stuff under there. Yeah. A lot of people are doing that. Big commitment. Double.
People are doing that anymore because now it's all this fancy stuff.
Well, the dorms have certainly changed.
Dorm rooms I've seen. I'm like, you guys are spoiled. Right. I was real basically.
You brought a small TV that had a VCR built into it. You had a mini fridge. Yes. You had a do you have a hot pot, or did you have a microwave? Oh, you had oh.
No, I didn't. Did I? No, I think I used the one. There was a community one. I think I used that one.
Community microwave.
My roommate might have had a microwave. I can't remember. No, I think it was hers because she microwaved pork rinds in it once. Gross. The entire dorm room floor. It was like, who did that?
I'm like that was real bad.
It was really bad. That's bad. Don't do that.
And also, why are we doing influencing on dorm rooms? Like, can we just let kids be kids?
Holy moly. What are we doing? I'm not even kidding. I unfollowed some people because I was like, this is ridiculous, and I don't need to see this. Right. Unfollowed. I had some real basic dorm room stuff. Like I just moved with what I had. But these it was crazy.
It was crazy the amount of stuff they sent with their kids, all this brand new stuff. And I went, eh. you guys are too rich for my blood. I don't this make me feel bad. I'm leaving. What is this?
A Magnolia dorm room? What are we doing? Candles. Magnolia? Yeah. Like Chip and Joanna? Yes. Oh, okay. Yeah. You walk in, it looks like a better homes and gardens in here. You're like, this is a college room. What are you doing?
We had even when I was in college, we didn't even have cell phones. We had a I know, we old. We had a phone on the wall. Wow. If you missed a phone call from your mom, sorry, Charlie. You didn't have an answering machine. No. Oh. No, I didn't. No, I didn't. Bummer. Oh shoot, mom, sorry, missed you.
Yeah. Oh, I was studying. I was very, very stuck in the library doing research.
It was really easy to move out though when you don't have anything. True story. I didn't even need a U-Haul. It was just uh throw it in the back of my car.
I'm trying to remember if we did the U-Haul thing to move me back. We had to have done something like that. Some kind of enclosed trailer. I do not remember moving back. That's weird. That is weird. Maybe I never did. Figment. Yeah.
You're a figment of imagination. Yeah.
I'm sure I moved back at some point. I just don't remember.
If you're moving it into an apartment, though, that's different because you do need all of that stuff. You need like cookware and you need to.
Yeah, I like I took a chair. Like I had an old recliner that I took.
I moved to the doors.
dorms. And I moved that back with me.
There was a bed in there and a chair, and I had a meal plan, so I wasn't doing any cooking. But these kids that I've seen on Instagram are just moving into a dorm room. And their dorm rooms are insane. I mean, I lived in asbestos. No, you lived in concrete.
No, that lead paint, yes, but not asbestos.
Oh, for sure, asbestos. Oh, for sure.
And it's all good unless you disturb it. Don't eat it. You'll be fine.
Emory wanted to run some errands yesterday, and she hates when you're the driver of the errands because I'm all business. You are all business. You go to your one stop and you go, here's our stop. Next.
Well, she had a couple of spots you wanted to go. And I said, Yeah, let's go there and let's go to the other spot uh spot you need. But also uh when we're done at that spot, I need to go to one more spot because I need some body wash. And I thought I wanted some of this fancy body wash that I like, and then they wanted to charge me $30 for like an 18-ounce bottle, and I said, uh no, thank you. I won't be buying that. And so I didn't. So now I smell bad. Oh no. I don't smell bad. I just I'm out of that body.
I know, and I really like that body wash. different body wash, and it's not It's not as nice. Oh, that body wash is good.
But I'm not spending $30 on a uh literally on a thing that I bubble up and it makes me smell nice, and I rinse it off down the drain. I'm not spending $30 on that. Forget it.
Okay, so but then usually if I'm the one that's driving, I'm like, hey, do you want to let's go get a treat? Because it's you know, we're running errands. We deserve a treat for running errands. You no treat involved.
You just want to do that. We got done and I said, are we just running home then? And you were like, yeah. And then our daughter was like, oh, uh it'd be cool if we went before went to the last stop. She said that she wanted to drive through and get a beverage. And I said, I don't want one. You didn't have to get one. But I also don't want to do the ordering. I hate it. So I'm not because she makes me say ridiculous words.
Triple berry bubba blast. Buttery.
Boba. It's not buttery. You already said boba. It's triple berry.
I was trying to think of other words that started with me.
It's just crazy, and I don't like saying all that stuff. And so no.
that's the only reason. You don't do it. No, I didn't want a tree. Oh, okay.
And I don't like ordering. I don't like going through drive-throughs with other people. Like if it's just me and I know exactly what I want, and I go up I'm getting that thing, and they go, cool, we'll see you at the window. And I go, Yep, here I come. And then I drive around to the window, and then it's over. And that's fine. But when the whole family's in there and it's like, what do you want? And then they go, okay, anything else? And I go, Yep.
Why is that such a big deal for you? I know you hate it. I know you do.
I w I would like everyone to be able to order their own thing. That would make me happy. I hate like you said the thing, now I have to repeat the thing. You said the thing.
Okay, so you hate being in the middle of it. I hate it. If I don't mind going through the drive-thru, if I could order my thing and everybody else could say what they want, fine. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm annoyed by having to repeat everybody's order. Drives me crazy.
And then they say, Do you want lettuce on that? And you have to go, do you want let us on that? Oh You just you just don't like being the middle of it. I hate it. I don't like doing the ordering. All right. Well, we went home from our errands and we got no treat. And we were both really, really sad.
Not immediately. You remembered immediately, and you went, Oh, now you're gonna have to deal with her because you didn't go get a treat. And it was probably a good 30 minutes before she went, hey, I thought I was getting a treat. No, she remembered. She didn't say anything right away.
She kept it inside for a minute and was like, we didn't get a treat. I wanted one. We didn't get one.
That's what happens when you run errands with dad.
Yeah, that's when dad drives. You get no treat. You want me to drive? Well, always get a treat. Because you deserve it. You deserve a snack for running errands.
We're gonna have dinner soon. What do you mean?
No, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. You're running errands.
We're about to have a meal. It doesn't matter. It matters. You deserve a treat. I don't. I do. For what?
Running errands. We watched a video yesterday. It is the Pittsburgh Parallel Parking Championship. And you just PPPA. You think I'd be good at this. I think you would be good at this.
There are three categories, two blinkers, one champion. Okay. That's their motto. There are three challenges. You get one shot, which is the closest to the curb, one attempt, no corrections, a textbook parallel park scored on distance to the curb.
I see that. Then there's tight squeeze, which is the fewest moves. You get 12 inches of clearance.
You can park within six inches of the curb and as few moves as possible. Okay. And then under duress, which is the fastest time. Nice.
You can park under active pressure from distractions and barriers as fast as you can. Interesting. You think you could do it? Yeah. You do? All of them? You could compete in all three challenges. Well, you have to. I don't know if you have to. You do. Okay.
It's the top three uh advanced to the final. Uh and then you get one attempt where the judges score each attempt on a 10-point scale, which is your competent com say that word. Competency. Thanks. Speed, closeness to curb, and flair. Oh, flare. Hey. Hey.
Whoa, what's up?
Parallel park. Meow meam yum meow.
Yeah, the highest score is named Best Parallel Parker in Pitts in Philadelphia.
Yeah, in Philadelphia. Uh, it's cool. They have only 15 participants that are selected to compete. So I don't know how you qualify to be one of those 15, but that sounds like a cool thing.
No backup cameras are parking assistance.
That's right. Systems are in the world. You have to take that out. Because that's what makes it really difficult. To not have the camera. You have to be good at parking. You are.
I would say that you are good at parallel parking. I am not. And I get stressed out, and I would rather park three miles away than park right in front, parallel park.
And I have a small car. I just hate it. Well, one, I hate doing it because I think it's hard. Two, I hate that people most of the time are waiting for you to park. And so then people are watching you. No way. I won't do it. I'll park three miles away. Why are you quiet?
I'm trying to find uh when we were in New York and New Jersey, a bunch of the cars had these like extra bumpers on them. So it was like an attachment. This it's like a bumper guard, um, is what it is. And uh it's like an extra rubber piece that you would put on your car.
Okay. Because people parallel park and and we'll scratch up your car. And in New York and New Jersey, you people are just like, I don't care.
Like it was a tight squeeze, and I scraped your bumper, but get over it. Yeah. And so people will put on these bumper uh guards.
Um, and so I was trying to find those because I was trying to figure out what what it was called. Okay, but it's a bumper guard. And uh anyway, I I think like uh anyone who is trying to practice bumper blocker.
Yes, that's what it is. Uh anyone who's trying to practice should get a one of these so that they can practice with a little less anxiety. Yeah, I actually like that. You know what I mean? Like uh like if you're gonna train, you want to be able to do it and be like, make be able to make some mistakes, and that's a way to do it. Bumper blocker.
I do want to practice because I do want to learn how to do it.
And you actually sign a little card's so easy.
I know, I know it is. You taught my friend how to parallel park.
You just have to start with the right you have to have the right starting position. The video you showed me. Oh, this guy doesn't have the right starting position. He pulled forward too far, and sure enough, he had to adjust, he had to do extra moves because he was at the wrong angle. Yeah, he was. He was all he came in too sharp because he started too far forward.
I think that was last year because the one this year hasn't started yet. It's on October 3rd. But he got that guy that we watched, got an eight. And I didn't think it deserved an eight. I would have given it a six.
What do you think a six looks like if that was an eight? It's got to be way bad. All right. It was an eight.
Let's go practice parallel parking, because I do want to learn. Okay. I just don't know if I it isn't hard.
Like it's just angles. It really is. And if you start at the right spot and you turn your wheel the right way, you're gonna be fine.
It's just angles. It is. That's everything my math teacher always said.
Oh, it's not hard. It's just angles. That's what my drummer teach teacher said. And I said, Oh, it's just ankles.
You ever play billiards? It's just angles. It's a game of angles. Anyway. I'll teach you. All right, let's go practice. Okay. And then we can do the championship. Great. Why in the world would uh Facebook want me to like the algorithm thing never makes sense to me. It goes from here's a here's my here's my scroll. Ready?
Okay. Uh the I-84 off ramp in Jerome is expected to open next week. Have you seen this thing?
No. Uh it's a crazy thing. I don't know what kind of traffic thing this is.
They've made a giant like bowl. If you haven't seen it, that's in my algorithm. Okay. Then I get a thing that says, hey, you need sequence, you can get sequins. And I know why I'm getting that. And that's because uh sequins?
Yeah, yeah. It's it's an ad that someone has put together. A local business has said, hey, you want you say yes to sequins because they got some sequin clothing and they want the trend to sell. But why do you need sequines? Because I follow them. Oh. But then as I keep scrolling, I get like tons of Vikings football stuff.
It's the hot dog dance over and over and over and over and over. And then I get uh ads for like some of the weirdest stuff, like airplanes. Who's who's buying airplanes?
You were getting a bunch of train stuff. Are you still getting train stuff?
No, I'm so glad I'm not gonna don't even say the word.
Josh. loves trains.
I don't cover up my phone. No, I have that ad setting turned off. Uh, which is good. And then tons of people taking fall photos. Uh that's what we were talking about. Of the foliage, and it is like it's amazing. Like we just have to go.
I know, Josh. I wanted to go this last weekend. I just don't know when we're gonna be able to again. I don't know. I'm not seeing any family.
I didn't see family, I saw fall photos. Oh pictures of foliage, not of people. Because I don't follow like a lot of people.
I know it's gonna be too late, though. We've got to get there.
We just have to go. I'm telling you, it's a weeknight thing. I know, but when's everybody working? Our son gets off at six. He doesn't even want to go.
We can't do family photos without a part of our family. It's photoshopped to me.
He's gonna have to get off work early or something. I don't know what's gonna happen.
But we've got to, because we miss it every year. Yeah, I know.
There's some actual cool uh Vikings gear that I've I'm getting pitched as well, and then some stuff about horses, and then it's so weird. It's like upgrade your internet and look at my pumpkins and more fall foliage and football. Like it's just over and over and over. It's the same thing as I scroll. It's because it's listening.
I know it's listening, it's so weird. And you know what else is exciting, and I I forgot about this. Uh my my fly fishing speaking series is firing back up, and so I'm real excited because the next one's coming up here real soon, and I'm uh I'm stoked. I put it on the calendar just why did you invite me to that? And I said, Well, you can come if you want, but I put it on the other calendar so everyone in the family knows I'll be at the uh fly fishing meeting. Okay, so if you're wondering where I'm at, now you know. That's where you'll be. Yeah. Yep. So the algorithms are wonky today.
It's just no, it's not because all colors and then weird ads.
All of it makes sense though, because we were talking about all of that stuff. Did you find any cool Viking gear? Because I need some.
There's there was a cool uh shirt. Yeah. It was all black, and the logo was just white on it. It looked cool. The one I really want is let's skull crazy. Right, which is a prints reference because he's from Minneapolis. Right.
And skull, and also skull Viking. No, I get it. I just wanted to explain it to you. Oh, that's what I really want. You want you want it so that you can explain the joke to everybody? No. Well, kinda. See, it's funny because Prince Prince.
Right. It was from Minneapolis.
And that's in Minnesota. And this is the Minnesota Vikings and Skull Vikings. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What does skull mean? I don't know. I mean, it's up to everybody. What's it mean to you? I don't know. The word comes from the old Norse were Norse were uh word. Uh literally literally translates to bowl.
I just looked it up. Mine says cheers or good health in Scandinavian.
It literally translates to the word bowl, which referred to a communal drinking uh bowls filled with ale or mead. So it is a cheers. It is a toast. It is similar to cheers, but it translates to bowl. School. Bowl. I'm gonna yell bowl from now on. Just because I know it'll annoy you that I'm yelling bowls. I'll just ignore you. Bull Vikings bowl.
That's B O W L, right? That is correct. Not B-U-L-L.
That's right. Okay. B-O-W-L bowl. Yeah, every time. I might I might just make a sticker for the back of your car that says bowl Vikings. Stupid. No. All Bull Vikings every time they hit the drum. Bull. Bull. Bull. I'm just gonna ignore you. You are? Yeah, dumb. I'll I'll say bowl louder. Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather be able to climb a tree like a squirrel or dig burrows like a mole?
Would I rather climb a tree like a squirrel or dig holes like a mole? Uh climb the trees. Me too. Yeah. No, I don't need to be down in the dirt. It's dirty, and you have to like you don't have eyeballs. You just dodge bugs. I don't think they do. They just dig on through. Okay. You're still gonna have to dodge them. Nope. They'll move out of the way.
I it would be kind of cool though to dig in the ground. You can't see. No, I understand. I understand. You don't even have eyes. Yeah, I know, but you'll adapt really quick. I'd rather climb the trees. Me too, actually. I was just trying to present. Like, don't moles are cool. They're life is cool. I think. I don't know. Never been a mole. don't know. Okay, I guess that was an easy one. I just, I mean, that'd be fun
climbing up in the trees and uh eating the peanuts. I like peanuts. I like sunflower seeds. So I'm going to do it.
We had a commotion with a squirrel yesterday. He was stuck between he
was stuck on a fence between two sets of dogs. That's what was happening. Yeah. And I'm not talking feet. I'm talking canine dogs.
And he was yelling. He was very mad at those dogs.
Very upset. For a long time he had a lot to say. Don't go in the backyard, dude. That's the moral of the story. And that there is would you rather this or that? I guess. Squirrels in trees.
It's a pretty easy one today, I suppose.
Squirrels hanging out in the trees. Okay, pretty easy. Good job. We've been doing this show for uh like four years together, you and I. And one of my favorite days or weeks that we get to talk about is fat bear week. Is it back? It is. This week is Fat Bear Week.
Uh, this is in the Katmai National Park and Reserve in Alaska, and there is uh a bunch of bears that meet up and they just eat food. I love it. Yeah. Uh they get ready uh for hibernation, and so a bunch of salmon are trying to spawn and swim upstream, and all these bears show up. Uh so fat bear week officially kicks off tomorrow and runs through September 29th, and you can log on uh to fatbearweek.org and you can vote for your favorite fat bear, uh, which is exciting. There's pictures of all these bears. Uh the adult male male bears gain hundreds of pounds over the summer, bulking up from 700 pounds to over 1200 pounds. They get real hefty.
I love it. So that they can survive hibernation. Uh the defending champion is Bear 32. His name is Chunk. He had a great summer. Sure to have plenty of heavy competition in the days to come as the votes pour in for uh fat Bear Week.
Dude, they have a side-by-side picture of Chunk. Yeah. From June to September 14th. June 28th to September 14th. And even in that small amount of time, Chunk has gotten chunk. Yeah.
So there's uh on YouTube a live uh view of the bears. Uh they're still in dark sky. Uh, which I think is interesting. So this is an infrared camera. Um that shows the this this bear kind of chilling on a rock.
Okay. Waiting for the fish to swim up. But uh, there's some some big bears. If you want to see this, the the uh uh live Brooks Falls camera on YouTube.
You can watch you watch the bears right now. Where do you see that? Uh well I'm watching it right now. I know, but where do I find it? Oh, on YouTube.
Just give me, tell me how to find that on YouTube. What's what do we look?
Live Brooks Falls on YouTube. That's literally what I said. I don't know how you missed it when I said it, but uh that's all right. Yeah, so I'm just watching that big bear sit on a rock.
We're gonna watch. We go from watching the Eagle Nest to the Bears. Sure. I love it. Fat Bear Week. Oh, Joshua, they have a live sea otter cam in Monterey Bay. Oh. Wow. Cool. I'm excited about that.
Well, you can watch all kind of live animals on uh on YouTube.
Dude, who is this bear right here? Do we know this one that we're watching on this live cam? No, look at his nails, though. I know, dude. Aren't his claws crazy? Dude, he's a he is a hefty boy.
Just watching him sit on a rock with his big old claws in the water waiting for fish. Pretty cool. It is pretty cool. Happy Fat Bear Week. That's gonna wrap up the show for today.
