Hello, and welcome to Fragraphilia. This is Jeff.
Jane:This is Jane.
Jeff:And, we are back with another rousing episode. We have a lot of, new perfumes to talk about, but to no one's surprise that listens regular, we are in another round of daycare sickness. Came out of nowhere.
Jane:Not too bad this time. We are we are unaffected, just our work schedules.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:Which is why we're drinking Negronis right now.
Jeff:Exactly. Good old good old Negronis. The weather calls for it. We've, we've had a good little cocktail run lately as well.
Jane:Yeah. I've been making a drink called Love and Murder.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:Look it up. It's a Campari Chartreuse cocktail.
Jeff:We're very excited because we had a local liquor store actually have some chartreuse available for a change, which is always tough to find, and so we immediately made a special trip to get it. Only two bottles left, but we grabbed one of them, and it's been a few years. It was like around the pandemic, we had your dad had stocked up on chartreuse bottles among many others and so that was our only like connection went for
Jane:full prepper for the pandemic.
Jeff:Yes. And, but chartreuse is, I've always loved it. You've always loved it. We've made a lot of last words in our time and other drinks with chartreuse. So it was nice to kind of I would say it's probably been three years since I've had any chartreuse.
Jane:And we've also still been making the jasmine cocktail that I gave the recipe for on our last episode. I still haven't come up with a name for it.
Jeff:No. But, Lisa, shout out, made it, and she loved it and did a little twist on it.
Jane:I I was so honored when I heard that.
Jeff:Yes. So thank you for doing that. What else has been going on? We have spring break next week, so we're squeezing this episode in before it is
Jane:It's a break for Henry, not for mommy and daddy.
Jeff:Yeah. It'll be for parents out there with toddlers or who have had toddlers. We're gonna have to figure out what to do with them all week. We have some plans. Might go to the aquarium, might do some fun stuff, I mean, we will do some fun stuff.
Jeff:So other than that, perfume wise, I mean, we've been trying out a lot of things and wearing a lot of things, but I have a little bone to pick real quick. And Tracy with Invisible Stories had, shared a little story the other day about we should bring back shaming for, like, these kind of full on AI video advertisements. I can't even remember what the brand was. It's a brand I've seen around, but, the one that always stuck out to me, I hate to pick on them because of our long history of of loving their perfumes, it was like, D. S.
Jeff:Endurga was doing it for a while. It's just kinda like, I I feel like brands, especially brands with an artistic sense and, you know, we should know better. Making some cheesy little videos to
Jane:It's not worth it. Yeah. And it makes your brand look terrible.
Jeff:It does. The the art's terrible. You know, I don't wanna get into the larger AI debates, but that is seeing that, it was a note that I had put on our about a week ago. I said, I wanna talk about this to some extent or at least make some mention, and then seeing her talk about it, and I shared it on Instagram, her story about it. But it is just
Jane:Well, can I say that today? I was looking up the brand Senseum, which has just recently started being carried on Lucky Scent. You may know their bottles because they look like big pink penis heads. They're very recognizable. And you purchased a couple of samples.
Jeff:For that very reason because I was like, I can't wait to try these because I know that Jane's gonna take a look at the bottle, and she looks one of these up, and she's gonna be like, that's a weird bottle cap.
Jane:I kinda love it.
Jeff:I do too.
Jane:I I do like the bottles, but the scents are absolutely terrible. I found the two that you got, both very offensive. There's one kind of like bubblegummy rose one, and then there's like kind of a bubblegummy musky one. They are so synthetic. And I was kind of trying to figure out this brand's whole deal, and I went to their Instagram page, which had terrible, terrible generative AI stuff.
Jane:That was so weird. And, honestly, I don't I don't it wasn't even like a brand strategy. It was so poorly done. And just kind of the way that their Instagram page was put together, I assume that it must be the founder of this brand. It seemed almost like a one person project and very questionable, tasteless AI.
Jane:So you can write Sensium off. That's a that's a skip from Fragrapilia. I'm just going to say.
Jeff:Well, yeah. And I get it. It's tough. In today's churn and burn, you have to and literally burn with these. But you you have to constantly putting out content to keep your algorithm rolling and your likes and engagement and everything like that.
Jeff:I understand. I don't wanna pick on anybody too bad, but it is just kind of I think there's there are brands, and and I think that I, again, bring up Diaz and Durga because they've done it a couple times over the last few months. It's like, already have great brand marketing. You already have, like, a look and a vibe and a history, and I just think it's like, it's it's not cute. It's not funny.
Jeff:It just I don't know. It's always
Jane:funny. Honestly, it's enough to turn me off as a customer for life pretty instantaneously.
Jeff:Yeah. Because you you don't need it. You already have so much your your goods are enough. Just share that. You don't have to do something.
Jane:I like when founders just talk video form. Yeah. You know, just do that. That's better.
Jeff:Yes. So we'll see how that keeps going and and hopefully, our wish is shared by Tracy, who is always a a north star for me at least, you know. Let's bring the shame back.
Jane:Absolutely. Let's do it.
Jeff:I haven't read all the comments since I shared her story, but we had a flood of them of people like, yeah, this is terrible and all this kind of stuff. So it was kinda that's funny. But on to bigger and brighter things because I'm really excited. We received our discovery kit from El Morocco, our good friends with Flower Shop Perfumes, who are are just packaging maestros between the Cirque du Soleil, the portals with, what's her name?
Jane:Melanie Martinez.
Jeff:Melanie Martinez. Sorry. Just like, you knew that the packaging was gonna be spot on, and plus, you know, I talked to Isaac here and there and and quite a bit, he and and And
Jane:they were guns for hire on those, and El Morocco is their own personal passion project many years in the making.
Jeff:Many years in the making. Gosh. I I remember he first told me about the idea that we have so we were, man, it was like three years ago at least. And to see it all come to fruition, the newsletters, the the graphics, the packaging, it's all just so the Discovery set comes in a classic kind of cigarette case.
Jane:And it's heavy.
Jeff:It's heavy.
Jane:It's incredibly well made.
Jeff:I was really shocked that I knew it would be well made, but it's like the weight even is like, oh, yeah. This is really, really well done. It's like a cigarette case. It opens up. It has little individual slots for the little perfume vials.
Jeff:There's five of them. They've had just great perfumers from Jan Vazner, Celine Burrell, and of course, Rodrigo, Fragraphilia favorite. And I haven't had as much time to spend with them as I would like, but I know that the standout for me offhand is Highball Felucius B, which the there. You probably heard. Hopefully, you heard that because that was me just accidentally closing the cigarette case travel set container.
Jane:Do we wanna do a a quick on air sampling of all four? Five?
Jeff:I think yeah. I think at least, I wanna I will, certainly spray Highball for Lucius B right now, which is the highlight notes are peach, leather, and oak moss, and this is the Rodrigo Flores Rue sample. And it is I've worn this one a couple times, just kind of like out and about, and it's just it's really, really nice. There's a sweetness to it. There's a fruitiness to it.
Jeff:Obviously, with the peach, there is this kind of suede accord that gives it this nice softness. You get that kind of classic old school perfumery with the oak moss. There's a little bit of it that reminds me kind of a musk ravageur by Frederic Mall, and I don't know exactly what that is. It's just kind of around there. It's just something that kinda resembles that to me.
Jeff:But it's, a tribute to the American writer and railroad historian, Lucius Beebe.
Jane:That's actually so delicious.
Jeff:It is. It's really, really well done.
Jane:So I guess it's the peach that's making it very yummy. Yeah. You know, when especially Rodrigo, when he gets peach and leather together.
Jeff:Yeah.
Jane:As we know from some of his compositions for Arquist. Yeah. That's gorgeous.
Jeff:There's jasmine, and cardamom seems to be so prevalent in perfume as it always has and and right now, especially. But I always love when cardamom is really used for its powderiness. There's like a powdery Yes.
Jane:I know exactly what you mean. There is a perfume I'm talking about later on the show that has a powdery cardamom note.
Jeff:That really comes through to me on this one, where it's just like it's really you get the spicy aromatic nature of cardamom, but it's done to really enforce kind of the suede softness and the powderiness
Jane:of So I have a request. I actually think that the one I have not gotten around to smelling, the only one left is Gala. Can you spray that for me?
Jeff:I will.
Jane:This is main notes are Moroccan orange blossom, saffron, and honey. And the El Morocco club actually had a fragrance called Gala, but its formula was lost to time. And it says here that this was named for Salvador Dali's mythologized wife who moved in his circle. So let's check that out.
Jeff:A lot of, like, orange blossom and honey. To me, that's what stands out. The
Jane:This the actually hero notes feels incredibly modern.
Jeff:Yeah. So, the the hero notes are Moroccan orange blossom, saffron, and honey. This is Laurent Le Grenac and Celine Burrell.
Jane:Oh my gosh. Okay. We're going to have a hard time deciding which full bottle we go with. Yeah. Alright.
Jane:Stay tuned on that.
Jeff:Yeah. That one's, you know, it starts off really sweet, but then the honey kinda gives it this kind of warmth, earthy kind of sexiness to it.
Jane:Yeah. Very sexy. The only, like, Dali woman I know is a mandalier. Do you remember I used to play her records all the time when I was DJing in single one?
Jeff:The one
Jane:The Mandalier fragrance. Please, somebody.
Jeff:I've been wanting to try.
Jane:That is so good. Okay. Pretty obsessed with that. I also I enjoyed one five four. This, think, is more more masculine.
Jane:I kind of thought one five four would be a, just an instant hit for you. How did you feel about that?
Jeff:I I like it. I think the one again, the highball one is my favorite, and it just I kind of it was an instant love for me. I'm spraying one five four right now. We'll get a real time.
Jane:And I know there's some people who absolutely love mint perfumes, and there is Lulu's back in town, which is heavy, heavy on mint and tea leaves, so check that out if if you're a mint person. I know that can be kind of hard to find in perfumes.
Jeff:Actually, I do kind of really like this one by four because it's
Jane:I thought yeah.
Jeff:Thought you would. More interesting there there's some ambery vanillic kind of notes to it that may be a little bit more vanilla than I would pretend particularly like, but it has this kind of, like, smokiness to it, and I kinda like the cocoa and brown sugar. I can totally tell that from the bit. But it stays a little like the olivinum, the cipriol, it gives it that kind of dry incense y feel to it that, yeah, that's all that's to me is like you put that on
Jane:And again, interesting, there are many synthetic molecules called out, proprietary molecules called out in the list of notes on these. That's always interesting to me. I think that we need to, like, plan a film noirathon, like a film noir week, and we we wear one fragrance every movie that we watch to get in the headspace. Does that sound good?
Jeff:Yeah. That sounds great. Cocktails, movies.
Jane:Okay. Wait. This is this is one five four?
Jeff:That's one five four?
Jane:Yeah. That's really good.
Jeff:Yeah. That's really good.
Jane:Okay. This is really hard. I think we still need time to digest and wear these.
Jeff:I do wanna do one
Jane:I thought that the the highball for Lucius, but I thought the Rodrigo would be the runaway hit for me, but it's I don't know. I I think why 154 and Gala because I'm such a honey person, an orange blossom person.
Jeff:I will say this. The one that intrigued me the most was probably two cigarettes in the dark, and that is the Jan Vazner.
Jane:That was actually the one that I didn't connect with the most.
Jeff:It's cypress, kade, and vetiver. So it's gonna be kind of smoky, rooty, earthy, and I'm getting that now, and it feels very leathery to me.
Jane:Jan does that.
Jeff:Feels very It feels hard. It feels very when I managed this cigar pipe tobacco shop for so many years, it smells like a leather pipe tobacco pouch.
Jane:Yes.
Jeff:And I love that.
Jane:Yeah. It has a I
Jeff:love it.
Jane:It has a real peapaw vibe that
Jeff:I'm into. Yeah. It has a it has a peapaw vibe where it's just like
Jane:Actually, wait. I was like, oh, I don't really like this one, but now smelling it.
Jeff:Yeah. And
Jane:Okay. Yeah. We're gonna have to be spending some time with these. Yeah. You you should definitely get the sample set.
Jane:It's stunning. You will love the cigarette case. I think I could actually fit real cigarettes in there too. I'll have to I'll have to check.
Jeff:I think it's a little small for that. We'd have to go non filter, which would, I guess, you know, really be the El Morocco way. Anyway, so get your get your Lucky Strikes or your your Camel non filters and fit them in there. It's, you know, it's got this, like, little printed imprint with the address of the El Morocco club, which, of course, we should probably set this up at the top. It was the it club for so many for decades.
Jeff:It's referenced in so many classic Hollywood movies, and it's just I don't know. I I'm really excited for them. I'm really excited to to own a couple bottles of these. I have not seen what the full bottles look like, so I'm pretty pumped to see that. I've only seen this.
Jane:Can I, do something that we will have to, rise to the occasion and follow through on?
Jeff:What's that?
Jane:Let's make an itinerary of five movies to pair with each fragrance when we do this. Okay?
Jeff:Yeah. Okay. Then yeah. I would love to do that.
Jane:Alright. Sounds good.
Jeff:Okay.
Jane:Okay. So we also want to talk about a very nice gift that we received last week, which was Right of Ways. I don't know if you're familiar with this perfume brand. I wasn't until they passed it along, but, Waterfall is their newest release, and we were so lucky to receive a bottle, and I'm pretty, pretty in love with this.
Jeff:By way of Dry Down Diaries, who reached out to us and she was kind enough to throw us in the hat for that and I gotta say, I like they sent us full bottle of waterfall, and they sent us samples of their two other perfumes, Rising Sun and Outer Realm, and it was like hit after hit for me. It was like really so good.
Jane:Yeah. I was I was, spraying the full bottle of waterfall right away. I was like, damn, that's amazing. It's like a very earthy tuberose kind of transparent. It has some ambrette in it.
Jane:Instant love. I've actually been wearing that a lot. It's perfect for muggy Texas summers, but the one that really blew me away was the little sample of rising sun that it came with.
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:And I instantly was like, I need a full bottle of this because it has a lot of orange and tobacco, which always like that's kind of a winning combination for me. But it it's very soft, and it has that powdery cardamom that we were talking about. And a lot of sandalwood. So it's just very cozy. But some of those notes like the tobacco and the sandalwood, they sound like they would be really heavy.
Jane:I don't know how this composition does it. It feels like a a light mist on you. Like, it's very transparent and airy and emotional. I am super into this line. So I am I am going to be purchasing a bottle of rising sun sometime in the future.
Jeff:And I like that a lot, but outer realm was more of what hit me because it's, you know, it's citron, it's Jupiter, juniper leaves, there's incense, thaffron, there's pepper and cedar. It's all those things that I kinda love. It's a little bit drier. It's a little bit earthier. It's it's it seems like, you know, if that if rising sun is the one, this is kind of like dusk.
Jeff:It that's the way it feels to me, like, that that kind of just like pinkish dusk.
Jane:Yeah. Whatever is going on there, they have a very clear vision of what they're doing, and, I love the kind of through line on these perfumes where they're all, like, very transparent, very delicately composed. But, yeah, waterfall is one we're gonna be bumping all summer long. Always stop. I mean, sometimes I smell so many white florals.
Jane:I'm like, okay. I've smelled them all. But this one has that kind of like touch of almost, like, salty groundedness that, makes it very wearable.
Jeff:Yeah. I'll I'll add this. Also, just because we're so grateful to to receive the gift, and that can sometimes be, you know
Jane:We don't do many gifted things.
Jeff:Know many gifted things, and we're also, you know, kinda haters. And, you know, we we we talk a lot of noise on here, and so sometimes we're a little nervous, especially with, like, newer kind of really
Jane:We're always we're always reluctant to to accept gifts because we are haters.
Jeff:But waterfall, I will say, even though I I would I I want to get out of realm for me, waterfall was such a nice surprise because if there's something I really don't like per se, or certainly don't gravitate, but certainly also gets pushed a lot this time of year is kind of those beachy florals where they're they're bringing in the jasmines or the tuberos, but they're also giving that kind of, like, coconut and suntan lotion and salty beachy vibes. And I feel like when those combinations get shoved into modern perfumery, the coconut and the suntan lotion and that's and the salty beach air ends up, overpowering the florals, and this does kind of the opposite.
Jane:And it's not beachy. It's more like river water.
Jeff:Yeah. Yeah. It's more like Yeah. More
Jane:Not resort y.
Jeff:More like a jungle you come across the jungle waterfall and it's got the little pond that you can kind of, like, cool off in because it's still very floral, a little green. There is kind of that kind of dewy airness to it, but it stays in the white florals, and I just think it's
Jane:so gorgeous. With your skin and your sweat. And I've been sweating so much. I've been painting really big paintings, and my studio is not very well air conditioned. So it's been it's been nice for my my sweaty days.
Jeff:Yeah. So I I I don't know. I've just been impressed with all three of them. I did not anticipate. I've been seeing their bottles around and and just seeing people talk about them, but I was really, really so it's just seeing, like, El Morocco right away and, Lepaque and all that stuff.
Jeff:It gives me kind of an excitement about, some some newer brands and some newer releases that it's just kind of like, hey. We're in a good little zone right now.
Jane:We are. Yeah. Speaking of yeah.
Jeff:You go on this one.
Jane:Okay. So I have been really wanting to try source perfumes, and I think it used to be called source celery when it first started, and I remember watching her when she was starting out on TikTok, and she's kind of exploded, And I think she runs her business out of, like, this kind of old house and she has, like, some young girls working there. It's an all woman team. It has, like just watching her content, it's like watching practical magic in real life, and then all of her perfumes are very, like, witchy themed. And I think she ships from Canada, and I just never got around to ordering samples.
Jane:And I think even, like, early in the beginning, she was more gourmand oriented.
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:And now she's stocked at Lucky Scent. She's expanded her range a lot, and you ordered a couple of samples from her.
Jeff:Which has been hard because she she has quite a few perfumes. Mhmm.
Jane:And a lot of them are sold out. She is so
Jeff:popular that she's always
Jane:sold out. That's another problem I encountered. But we tried vampire husband.
Jeff:Love.
Jane:Kinda, yeah, kind of instant love for us there. The notes sound like really intense, dark patchouli, absinthe, graveyard dirt, petrichor, cigarette, tobacco, blood, vetiver, oak moss, but, like, it doesn't come off that way on the skin. It's just a really nice patchouli fragrance to me.
Jeff:Yeah. It smells like an old school patchouli patchouli perfume.
Jane:Tobacco, it's really good.
Jeff:Could be from the eighties. Could it just it just Yeah. Again, like I was really
Jane:great great peapaw vibes. Yeah. So we both love that. What did you say? You're like, I can't remember what you said to me about Vampire Husband last night.
Jane:You were wearing it, and you said something really funny about it.
Jeff:Yeah. I I can't remember.
Jane:But also you got Witchery
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:Which is like a kind of green blackberry scent with a lot of galvanum and oakmoss and more petrichor notes, and that was really good too. So I'm excited to try more. I think you got one more. You got Yeah. Into the Veil or Through the Veil.
Jeff:Something something like that. But, yeah, there were quite a few that I wanted to try, and they didn't have like, they have Vampire's Wife. They they were out of stock of that. Fuckery was out of stock.
Jane:And I want to try Fuckery because that's their Amy Winehouse inspired fragrance. What a concept. Yeah. Yes, please. And then they have one called the ghost wants birthday cake.
Jane:I love that name. The bottle has an adorable illustration of a ghost on it. And I just know that would make Henry so happy.
Jeff:I love the bottles.
Jane:I I like everything about it. Yeah. I'm really happy to see her succeeding. And, you know, it's just perfumery, unfortunately, is kind of like fashion where a lot of things are male owned. So it's nice to see a top to bottom woman team, and I wanna support that.
Jeff:Yeah. And I I always love being cure I I was just curious about the brand because of the themes. I knew you would love it for some of for those themes. I did not anticipate loving something like Vampire's Husband as much as I did because as soon as I sprayed it, I was like, oh, this is this is my kind of perfume. This is this is what I want.
Jeff:And so it's been fun to kinda test that out and and wear it, and that's my vote for the line so far. If I were to get a full bottle, that'd be for that one, but I don't know. Like I said, she has quite a few. I'd wanna try several.
Jane:You know, I think that because she is so popular, I'm just going to be forced to blind buy whatever's in stock, and I'm I'm kind of down for that journey.
Jeff:Alright.
Jane:What have you been wearing this week?
Jeff:I have been with our sample order from Lucky Scent Scent Bar, I wanted to reintroduce myself to Invasion Bar Bar by MDCI or Parfums Medici, however people wanna say I've that's been kind of in the top five of my want list for about four years. I don't know. Three years. Talked about it many times on here. I haven't had a sample for a while.
Jeff:And I still I feel as strongly about it as I always have. Again, it's just kind of I think it's pricey, and I don't know if the
Jane:They're in the, like, the 300 range. Right?
Jeff:I think they yeah. $2.50 to 300, and it's like, do I like it that much? That's the thing I always because there's a lot of perfumes in that range. There's things we've talked about many, many times when we you know, like perfumer aged perfumes that we really like. There's there's surge.
Jeff:There's there's just various perfumes in that range that I would love to to get, and it's like but anyway, I wore it a couple times this week just to kinda reintroduce myself to it, and I I loved it. So it's essentially grapefruit and bergamot with violet leaves and and thyme and cardamom, again, giving some real powdery notes to it. It's got lavender, ginger. It's a kind of a almost fougere with a little bit of a vanilla side to it, little bit of musk.
Jane:It's also got some of those, like, strong synthetic kind of ambroxan y molecules too, yeah. Yeah. Which make it great. Yeah. It smelled wonderful.
Jane:You passed by me wearing it. I hadn't smelled it in a long time.
Jeff:Yeah. And it's kind of those synthetic molecules because I think it was originally made in, like, 2006. So it's that kind of uses of usage of it rather than the way it's used now. Speaking of Musk, I have we went on a date night over the weekend, and a couple times since, I've just been wearing a Musk Kublakhan by Serge Luton, speaking of Serge.
Jane:And on Saturday night, you wore it with Musk ravager?
Jeff:Yeah. I wanted to see, like, what that was gonna be like.
Jane:Picked up on that combo immediately.
Jeff:It's all incredible. You're like, are you wearing muskravager? I was like, damn. Wow. That's pretty well good job.
Jeff:And but it yeah. It was perfect. It's I really wish I could time travel a little bit and try some of the earlier editions of Musk Kublikan. I wanna know how, like, dear musky it it was back then. It's just it's a perfect perfume.
Jane:Last night you were wearing it, I was like, this should be world famous.
Jeff:You know
Jane:how everybody knows what Coca Cola tastes like?
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:I mean, I believe in a world where everybody knows what musk kublaikan smells like, because it smells fucking amazing.
Jeff:Yeah. It really does. It's it's classic. It's it's raw. It's earthy, but it's very, very beautiful and layered so wonderfully.
Jeff:It's I didn't even write the note list down.
Jane:Armpit and teddy bear, and
Jeff:I Yeah. Love That really is. And then the third one that I worn, and I brought a little dabber of it. So I remember, I don't know, like a year ago, maybe longer, there was this little perfume house out of France called Ophoumem, and I saw Natalie or Valerie with Niche Sampler talking about them because they have kind of these, like, silver basic perfume bottles, but they also sell it in these handmade porcelain little bottles that look really really cool. If if think of, like, the glass Kindred Black perfume oil bottles where everything's kind of just like artistic made and
Jane:it's hand
Jeff:black. Blown black. They do like a lot of like, yeah, hand blown glass and But I finally ordered a sample because I keep things I'm interested in on my, you know, open browsers, on browser tabs on my phone and after a while, I just get tired of seeing the same one, so I'll eventually either move on from them or make an order. So, I ordered the sample set. This was like April.
Jeff:I don't even know. It was so long ago. And then one day, I get this little package that looks like it was like old CD mix tape style where it was like handwritten, like, my address, and I could see etaille uni, so I knew it was from overseas. I knew it was from France. I was like, what the hell is this?
Jeff:And I open it up, and there's the three samples. They have three perfumes, and one of them was broken, so who knows what that smells like. It looks like it had been in the post for a long time. And but they had one called Poiv Porcelain, and I don't know if I like it, hate it when I don't hate it, or just like really, really love it in that way that you can love a perfume that you may not actually like, but something about it makes you want to keep smelling it. And so I don't ever really wear it because it's like this little dabber and I just put a little bit on my wrist or my hand while I'm working and it stays with me and I just smell it throughout the day and I've done that probably six times in the past, two weeks where I'll just kind of apply it and then reapply it a little later, it blends with everything else, but the main notes are myrrh, mimosa, and bay rum, which is kind of like a clove y herb type of thing that's used
Jane:in delicious. Sounds like something I
Jeff:So want to I'm just gonna put it on this little dabber because I I I really want
Jane:Oh, you can put it on my skin.
Jeff:Before the game?
Jane:Yeah. Put it up Okay. Way up high.
Jeff:I want some light. Curious about this. So come on over here. I'm gonna dab a little bit.

Jeff:I know. So they oh, whoops. Put a little bit more than here. But there's just something about it that smells absinthe, clove y, and sweet, but also incense y. I don't know.
Jeff:It's like a weird
Jane:There's so much clove. Clove is such an overpowering smell.
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:And I love that about it. I'm sure Jeff did actually kind of doused me in this, so we may have to report back in about ten, fifteen minutes, but, yeah, I mean, it actually does smell really interesting. Mimosa, myrrh, and beyram. Interesting. Okay.
Jane:Cool.
Jeff:Yeah. I'm just kinda, it's just something I've been wearing, and I felt like I wanted mention it.
Jane:Smells, and it has, like, kind of a Doctor Pepper vibe right right now, at least, and I do love that.
Jeff:What have you been wearing?
Jane:So I have been wearing pretty much exclusively white florals, and I already talked about waterfall by right of way, which has been perfect for where I'm at. Like I said, I have been this is gross. I know I don't normally sweat much, but I've been working on really big canvases, and it's just gotten to that point in Texas where it's really hot. Today, did a four a 46 by 52 inch canvas, and I put so much paint on it. I was like, I couldn't wear perfume.
Jane:But I have been wearing hair perfume because of that reason, and I have really enjoyed Otisan by Diptyque. This was a hair perfume that you actually got for me as a nice, like, pick me up on the day I was feeling kinda bummed out, and you got this on Rebecca's recommendation.
Jeff:Right?
Jane:And I have really enjoyed that.
Jeff:Shout out.
Jane:Yes. Shout out, Rebecca. And another one that I have been wearing, another hair perfume that I have been wearing is blooming fire by Aurabella perfumes. Now we got an entire box of all of the Aurabella line sent to our house, not for influencer reasons, but because my husband did a lot of work on the website, and they sent those over as a thank you. And the thing about Orabella perfumes is that they have no alcohol.
Jane:They're all water based, so you can use them in your hair. And this was exciting to me as somebody
Jeff:Hey. You have to shake them.
Jane:You have to shake them. They turn kind of milky and cloudy. I know that you said, like, while you were working on the website, you saw those videos, like, 5,000,000 times.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:But, yeah, blooming fire is kind of a white floral, beachy, patchouli that I am kind of into, actually, actually, way way more more than than I I thought thought I I would would be. Be.
Jeff:I, yeah. I there were quite a few of them in the in the set that were kind of like, wow. Alright. I'm very grateful and wonderful, wonderful brand to work with. But the, you've been wearing them quite a bit because you spray them in your hair, and they just last forever.
Jane:Yeah. Yeah. And, I I love Looming Fire because it's very much kind of like Mugler Alien.
Jeff:Yeah.
Jane:And it has kind of like, you know, a white floral from the mall, which is something I find very beautiful.
Jeff:And comforting. Yeah. Yeah.
Jane:There is something comforting about, like, really well done commercial white floral, warm white floral that I really enjoy, and this is definitely that. And I think I will probably wearing blooming fire in my hair all summer long.
Jeff:Yeah. There was another one that I really liked. And

Jeff:I should know that. Should know it, but it's shaping my mind right now. I like Salted Muse.

Jeff:Yeah. It was just kinda like, oh gosh. Because you, know, when you're working on things, you see things, but you don't actually get to experience them, and then to experience them was like, man, I feel kinda feel kinda chucked about all this stuff, and it was that was very Yeah.

Jeff:it was very rewarding to get that box and just, I don't know, yeah, I've loved that you've had that in your hair and it
Jane:just You've been working, you did like some work for a certain celebrity makeup brand too and got a box of that sent to our house. It's pretty nice.
Jeff:Yeah. I mean, after years and years of you getting, like, tons of stuff, and it's just kinda weird.
Jane:The turntables. But the only, like, real perfume perfumes I've been wearing, I have been wearing Last Dre by Legallion here and there when I'm inside. I also wore Cannon by Maison d'Etto, which is a really great, gritty, ooty tuberose with some oud in it. And I haven't worn Canon in a while, and I used to love it, and this reignited my appreciation for it. It was actually great for sweating my ass off, so
Jeff:I love that. Yeah. And that when we have the candle too, and then, you know, you just
Jane:Oh, I forgot we

Jeff:It could be the Negroni. I'm feeling this makes me feel nostalgic for when, like, the dating period of 2013, 2014.
Jane:You were dating me. Right?
Jeff:Well, of course. And but it smells kind of old school perfume, but new school as well, kind of of the rise of the niche. Smells like something I would smell in Barney's in 2013.
Jane:It really does.
Jeff:It smells a little bit jacar. You know? It smells kind of aftershave y a little bit. There's a, like, a citrus pineapple.
Jane:The notes are so Jeff. It's crazy.
Jeff:There's a lot of, like, green very green earthiness to it. It's you know how Corinne by Corinne Rutfield?
Jane:Yes.
Jeff:Has that kind of just, like, potent combination of old school patchouli floral. We've talked about it recently in a in a couple episodes. It's along those lines. This is strong in the best way, like, not overpowering, not beast mode. It's just pronounced.
Jeff:And there's a little bit of, like, a clayness to it. I don't know how
Jane:to No.
Jeff:I understand. Like this kind of like a wet, soily dense earthiness to it.
Jane:It's it's damp.
Jeff:I don't even know how to, like, collect my thoughts on what the notes could possibly be because it's
Jane:really that's probably going to evolve a lot over the course of the next thirty minutes.
Jeff:Yeah. But
Jane:it feels like smells incredible right now.
Jeff:Feels like there's like an almond shell, kind of like Oh. There's something, not nutty, but like, it has weight and oomph to it that this is not I don't think we have anything in our collection like this. This smells very vintage to me.
Jane:It is. It's from a revival house.
Jeff:This is really yeah. This is I I'm really can you give me the note list?
Jane:Yes. The notes are bergamot, mandarin, cardamom, coriander, lavender, clove, nutmeg, cumin, thyme, leather, patchouli, and cedar.
Jeff:Okay. So the nutmeg would kinda fit in that
Jane:It's an interesting, like, narrow
Jeff:shellness.
Jane:It's an aromatic leather. I'm I'm loving it.
Jeff:Yeah. But it doesn't smell like it's definitely aromatic. It's very powdery. It's very and not in, like, a baby powder way, just kind of like a softness kind of dusty kind of powder, but the green notes are so, like, pronounced that it's this smells clean. It smells fresh.
Jeff:It smells vintage and I mean, it sounds stupid even saying it's, like, vintage yet modern.
Jane:I thought that this was going to be kind of stinky stanky based on the concept, and it's actually totally not tame because it still has an edge to it, but I would feel comfortable wearing this anywhere.
Jeff:This smells like I'm sure I've you know, we've talked about this before. I'm a pretty super, like, I like to be clean.
Jane:You're a little you're a little OCD about it.
Jeff:Yeah. You know, I like to be clean and this feels like when I would go out back in those days, when we could go out at any time we wanted, you know, you take that shower before you go out and you just feel kind of fresh and alive and vibrant. That's what this smells like. This smells like, hey, I've just thirty minutes ago, I was taking a shower getting ready for me showing up here thirty minutes later. And that's what it smells like to me.
Jeff:And it just, this is a winner.

Jeff:Oh, wow. It doesn't smell like when I ordered that, and I I I only tested it once when I ordered it, I was expecting something a lot more, like, leathery, and it doesn't
Jane:It's not overwhelming with this look, but it's very leathery. So this is inspired by the leather salvaged from a shipwreck, the the Metacatharina shipwreck. Now I heard this, and I got very sad, but I looked it up. Everyone on the shipwreck in 1786 survived. Oh.
Jane:All of the rolls of leather on the ship did not survive. Fast forward 1973, they find the shipwreck. They haul up the rolls of leather, and you can look them up. You can yeah. You can it doesn't smell like very salty aquatic to me, but It
Jeff:smells water. I I Maybe it's maybe it's like
Jane:what the leather smelled like before it went in the ocean. It it's not swampy. When I was, like, reading this, I'm like, oh, like, it's giving Widow's Bay, but now that I'm smelling it, it's not very Widow's Bay. Like, this is very refined and
Jeff:Yeah. Not honked.
Jane:It's a gentlemanly leather.
Jeff:We're not gonna turn to dust if we go past a certain point
Jane:By the way, the TV show Widow's Bay is, like, literally the best thing that's happened to me since I married Jeff and gave birth to our son. I'm obsessed.
Jeff:More than the Americans?
Jane:Well, the Americans was before we got married.
Jeff:Well, that's true. Yeah.
Jane:So yeah. I mean, it's up there.
Jeff:Full disclosure, Jane is hot for Matthew Reese.

Jeff:time and, you know, it's yeah. But this, yeah, this smells like somebody that knows who they are, is sharp dressed, cool, you like them. This is a signature scent.
Jane:It's like think it's what Matthew Rees smells like, honestly.
Jeff:Yeah. I don't know. But
Jane:So this is I I can tell that you like it a lot. It's $2.75 for a 100 milliliter bottle. $2.75. I know. Woah.
Jane:What's going on in here? Okay. But still. So website says that it says originated in 1892, and that doesn't seem like the brand. It's like that's on the page for this particular perfume.
Jane:Now I don't go on the website Fragrantica, but when I looked up in the search results, Fragrantica does say it's 1939. I saw that in the in the search results. But then the shipwreck wasn't till 1973, so that
Jeff:They found it.
Jane:Yeah. Yeah. They could the perfume couldn't have originated in in 1892 or 1939, so someone's not being honest.
Jeff:Facts should never get in the way of a good myth.
Jane:Or a good perfume.
Jeff:Or a good perfume. So this is, okay. You started off out of the gates pretty strong.

Jeff:Marion Brass, your turn. I have just sprayed Jane's first entry into the game.
Jane:This is great at first sniff. It's a very zippy, peppery, strong, pungent leather type of scent. Mhmm. It has some green notes. Very spicy.
Jane:Maybe some subtle citrus as well. But it's like pungent tack leather, and it's very anabolic without being overpowering. It honestly though I will say this does smell something more like I would smell in a literal tack room, not what I would smell in a perfume bottle, and I like that. I find it surprising. I would love to see how this plays on skin.
Jane:To me, this feels very salty. It has, like, a very lived in warm of the body quality to it. Maybe it smells like warm horses.
Jeff:Feels very zippy and peppery to me.
Jane:It's very zippy. The the black pepper is very strong here.
Jeff:Yeah.
Jane:I'm super into it. That's great. I could not see, like is this is this marketed more towards men?
Jeff:You know, I don't I don't really think so. It is a classic niche house.

Jane:all that unfolding at first. It was like very as you give it time, it's becoming more nuanced and green.

Jane:does feel more, very like, less leather and more like a garden.

Jane:So it's it's becoming more that now, and I want to say because I actually, now that I know what it is, I am familiar what with what this smells like on skin, and it is incredibly different than how it smells on this blotter.
Jeff:It's like this whole room smells like it right now, so it's it's really nice.
Jane:I I know how this smells. You wore it actually actually a couple of days ago. I remember what it smelled like the first time we both wore it, and it's yeah. It's really good. It it becomes a lot more lived in and a lot more green on skin.

Jeff:Those are it's pepper, cedar, and Iso E super, and that's really it. I mean, it does smell a little bit like yeah. This is nice. This is

Jane:This is what you would have smelled like when we first started dating. Yeah. And I I actually don't know when this perfume came out, but maybe it would have been around that time.
Jeff:It's one of those that I think could probably be it it'd be like a bedtime scent for me Yeah. Because I think it's probably too light for me in the sense that maybe someone else can smell it, but I I like smelling the perfume that I'm wearing too.
Jane:Yeah. I don't want it to just give is you projector. Very office appropriate, right?
Jeff:Yeah. It feels very, very office appropriate. It smells a little bit like paper. It's subtle. It's nice.
Jeff:It's really there's a little bit of, like, a cardamom kinda sweetness, powderiness to it, but it is mostly just like cedar and woods, which obviously is is cedar, but I would wear this to bed a lot of times. It reminds me a little bit of Lorfion by Serge Luton's Oh, in the sense of just, like, it's not like that at all, but it's that kind of wear. It's just kind of, like, there. It's not overpowering you. It's not bringing a bunch of crazy, like, spices and and ambers and and fruity notes.
Jeff:It's just, like, a very streamlined scent.
Jane:I'm going to tell you the notes.

Jane:And it's almost like this was engineered in a lab to make you happy. Black pepper, white thyme, vetiver, apopanax, ambrofix, musk, and myrrh resinoid.

Jeff:Oh, Jesus. Okay. I ordered it, and I was very curious. I don't love the name for a

Jeff:good thing. Beginning for a name, I don't just like you could have, like, the the way that I mean, we are come to Rorsand people. This is I mean, wore
Jane:one of my introductions.
Jeff:Yeah. We are we've been wearing their perfumes for very, very long time, and we never would be my
Jane:mom for Christmas. I know I say that about so many perfumes. She would go nuts for this.

Jeff:Of course, it's important and all the good things about it, but it's like so many times it just smells like vetiver and kinda wet too. And this is not I did not anticipate this. This really smells like peppery and incensey and woody more than it does just like your classic vetiver. Okay. Wow.
Jeff:I really actually like this a lot. This is a happy scent for me. This is a

Jane:And Jeff initially sprayed this on a blotter, and I was like, no. This needs skin. It's been sitting here for about a minute. This is also weird and green and bitter and herbal at first sniff. Feels kinda sweaty, leathery.
Jane:There's a strong blast of, like, cat pee ammonia smell that I you know, sometimes that's something I love. I think it's probably coming from, like, a tiny cedary thing here.
Jeff:Yeah. I'm gonna have to spray it myself to kinda get a feel for it. I can smell it in the room.
Jane:I think it's like I don't think I like it very much.
Jeff:No. See, it smells very, like, smoky. Smells like
Jane:Little barbecue barbecue cat cat pee. It's Yeah. It's a little barbecue cat pea green bitter herbal, but it's like the composition so that's something that can work for me. Listen. I'm open minded.
Jane:There's something that's not landing here. It needs something soft to land on and it's all kinda like very pointy.
Jeff:You know what what I think it smells like. And it's coming to my mind in this very moment. It smells like you're camping with your friends and you're all tired. You wanna go to bed, so you dump water on the the fire. We've made this comparison before, but it also smells like that mixed with the off spray that you've been smelling to or spraying to get rid of the mosquitoes.
Jane:There's like some soft tobacco notes coming through Yeah. Right now. It's getting softer and warmer. Maybe this is something that will smell really good in ten, fifteen minutes. But I have to say, first brush, not loving it.

Jeff:Incense, charcoal, rose, cedar, sandalwood, and musk.
Jane:Okay. Maybe that charcoal's doing a little bit too much work. Incense doing a little bit too much work. It's like, maybe you needed some fruit in there.

That's where you can smoke your marijuana. But, anyway, I yeah.

Whereas, like, Fields of Rubis, and there's a couple of other and, well, I mean, we've liked so many of the samples that we've had some kerosene recently.

Jane:I have just sprayed Jeff's final scent of the game.
Jeff:This feels very purple y. Mhmm. Feels very pedigree. There's maybe some tuberose involved. And, yeah, smells a little oh god.
Jeff:Why can't I think of the the purple Aussie brand shampoo and
Jane:Oh, know what you're talking about. Yeah. What the hell? God. Everyone knows what we mean.
Jeff:Yeah. Smells a little like that.
Jane:It does, actually. But like a really classy Yeah.
Jeff:I mean, smells like lily of the valley, petitgrain. All your white florals are in there, a little bit of the dryer sheet, which is funny because my third pick will be very similar. Although, I am biased. I like this because I like that kind of stuff. It's not wowing me.
Jane:I think it's really well done though When I Yeah. It's fine. That I would like, but I am really impressed by this composition. The notes are bergamot, mandarin, black currant, rose, jasmine, champaca, lily of the valley, orange, heliotrope, auris, raspberry, peach, cedarwood, vetiver, patchouli, amarous, oak moss, sandalwood, vanilla, amber, and musk.
Jeff:What didn't they put in it? Mhmm. I mean, you can't lose with this. It probably leans a little bit of that kinda candy floral
Jane:that it's sweet.
Jeff:Yeah. That that I would prefer to bring that back a little bit. Just stay floral.
Jane:Candied, feminine, vintage style perfumes.
Jeff:But if you were wearing this, I'd be like, man, you smell great today.
Jane:So when I sprayed it, I was like, oh, I I really like this. It's nothing I would ever want for myself, but it's getting in that kind of family of fragrances that I like, and I I I applaud the composition. I think that the fruit notes, particularly the peach and raspberry are working beautifully.
Jeff:It feels like
Jane:It's complex.
Jeff:What is that company that does they work with chefs and food personalities to make their THC gummies? Oh god. Like, they work with the Abernathy guy. Yeah. I I know it
Jane:it's like Rose
Jeff:or something. Yeah. Feels like it would be this would be one of their their gummies. And I wouldn't hate it. It'd be like, oh, I bet that would be a great combination to make this because it's floral, but it's also very candy ish.
Jeff:Like, this this could be
Jane:a nice dessert. That Oris candy thing. So this is Parfums Medici La Emie.
Jeff:Oh, yeah.
Jane:And I put it in the game because I know what a Medici head you are.
Jeff:I'm trying to be at least.
Jane:Though you own though you own none, you you always really enjoy their compositions. I do too. This perfume was inspired by a portrait of a mother and child painted by Jacques Louis David. It hangs in the Louvre. Looked at the painting, really boring trite painting, actually.
Jane:I don't know why anyone feel
Jeff:them. Trite ass painting.
Jane:It's good. It's like, it's just objectively under he has many more interesting paintings. And I think, like, if you're, like, interested in the mother and child aspect, there's so many more interesting mother child paintings. Whatever. It's a good perfume.
Jeff:Yeah. I think that yeah. It's it's fine. It's nice, but it feels a little bit gourmand.

Jane:Kmet territory or the BNMA territory, and they just they're not going there enough.

Jeff:What what what final one do? That's what we get. I have just sprayed Jane's final perfume of the game.
Jane:Well, you didn't just spray it. Our noses got kind of overwhelmed, so we went and took a little break, and we're back. This is a beautiful, soapy, clean, orange fragrance that feels very vintage, very revival house. It smells masculine. I can't imagine a woman wearing this.
Jane:I feel like it's going to be it smells orangey, but I feel like whatever citrus notes are in here might surprise me.
Jeff:You tell
Jane:me what they are?
Jeff:Top notes are virvana on orange blossom, so you were And you have some lavender, rosemary, and thyme.
Jane:Yes. It's very, like, cool aromatic. Yeah. Citrusy.
Jeff:Musk and
Jane:amber Makes sense.
Jeff:Feels very petitgrain again. Dryer sheets, like bounce, fabric softener, dryer sheets.
Jane:This smells like that fabulous what's Courtney Cox's cleaning line? We have one of her Oh, yeah. Surface sprays.
Jeff:Damn it.
Jane:I can't.

Jane:Or it's like Homecourt? Homecourt.
Jeff:Homecourt. Yeah.
Jane:Homecourt. Yeah. Great smelling surface sprays and cleaning products. It smells like one of those.
Jeff:It does.
Jane:It's a little, like, a little Pine Sol, a little Fabuloso in the best way. Like, it smells expensive, but it also smells like, you know, a clean house.
Jeff:I'm gonna just jump right to the chase here. It is a la rain de fleur, and this is also another L. T. Pavyr Oh, Viper. So it is a revival house.
Jeff:You were very correct.
Jane:We also the first fragrance I sprayed was L. T. Pavyr's Cuir de Roussie. So second LT Pivet in the game.
Jeff:So in 1774, perfumer glove maker, Michel Aron from Versailles, he opened a boutique in Paris, and, he created this perfume and it was, you know, he's part of the King Louis the sixteenth and it was adopted by Marie Antoinette and they lost the formula, or they have the formula, and they kind of reinterpret it, you know, whatever the lore is. But it feels very, like, clean. It does feel a little bit cologne y.
Jane:Yes. It feels smells masculine. It smells masculine.
Jeff:It smells like a qui de palma, those type of perfumes.
Jane:Aqua de palma, you mean?
Jeff:Yeah. Whatever it's called. It feels very much like in that realm. I would totally like, I sprayed it on my arm earlier, and it just kinda lived with me all day.
Jane:You love a citrusy,
Jeff:I do. Soapy fragrance. It just it's clean. It's daytime. It's easygoing.
Jeff:It's happy. It's got a little zip to it, and it you know? As opposed to the last one we just had with the with similar notes, this one feels more like a a cologne perfume type of vibe to it. Like, it's it's meant to be an adornment to your day, and I I feel very strongly about that. So
Jane:Alright. So what are what are the rankings of the game tonight?
Jeff:Well, jeez. I really loved your first one because it is unlike anything that we have.
Jane:What was the first one that you sprayed for me?
Jeff:The first one I sprayed for you was the absinthe one from Lartazan.

Jeff:But the vetiver one for Come to Gressan, I think that might be

Jeff:you know, I had mentioned to you Survived earlier, I did a search for it when I was getting the note list and everything for the game, and I saw a head shop in New York had it, and they had other perfumes as well. And apparently, no one was buying it because it's kind of like the the handcrafted porcelain version is kind of an expensive get, but it was 70% off. And I know that we're gonna mention it, people are gonna do searches, and they're either gonna send me a link to that or they're just gonna buy it and they're not. So I I bought it.
Jane:You did?
Jeff:I did.
Jane:Oh, okay. Good. Because this is delicious. We have nothing like it. To me, it's like I always want, like, a gourmand comforting perfume, but, like, everything gourmand gourmand turns me off for whatever reason.
Jane:Like, this is that
Jeff:yummy weirdo scent, and and I've been wearing it consistently for the past, like, two weeks of just, like, putting it on my hand and just, like
Jane:It's like, man. Got makes me want to lick my own skin. It is delicious and spicy and kola y. I love it.
