And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Friday the 2nd August 2024.

Yesterday saw Prime Minister Keir Starmer hold a press conference, where he addressed the violent disorder that has followed the tragic events in Southport this week.
With unrest expected to continue into the weekend, the Prime Minister announced a new National Violent Disorder Programme, which will enable further collaboration and intelligence sharing between police forces and related organisations around the country. This will help them to predict where unrest might pop up, and apprehend perpetrators quickly.
Addressing the nation, Starmer said that the country will not allow fear to curdle into division and hate in communities, and will not permit a breakdown in law and order on the streets.

The Scottish Government has announced that it is rolling out a world-leading initiative that will support the sharing of digital evidence into court rooms.
Supported by £33 million of investment, the Digital Evidence Sharing Capability will allow police officers, prosecutors, defence lawyers, court staff and judges to access a secure system for digital evidence. The system will collect, store, process and manage the evidence, with the aim of reducing the number of victims and witnesses that are forced to attend court, whilst cutting down on the time that it takes for a case to conclude.
The programme went through a pilot stage in Dundee, with approximately 19,500 pieces of evidence being handled. As the pilot concluded, it was established that almost 550 hours of police officers’ time had been freed up thanks to the capability.

Just over four years on from public ownership of South Yorkshire’s tram network being regained, the combined authority has confirmed the ways that communities around the region are benefitting.
Increased journey numbers, improved technology, and reduced numbers of fare-evasion are working alongside investment from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to deliver a much improved tram network for the region.
The end goal will be for transport systems to be completely integrated, allowing communities to travel to and from the most important opportunities.
