What is Modeling Success?

Modeling Success is created to bridge the gap between talent and brand. Putting everything out on the table, addressing current situations and hot unspoken topics that are happening in the industry that need to change. We will address topics such as the models and brand's point of view on industry topics. As well as discussing success in the industry, what it is to be a model and what agencies and brands are looking for when seeking talent. Just because you get paid for pictures does not make you a model. A model is "a system or thing used as an example to follow or imitate". A model is someone or something one aspires to become, someone who works their butt off and is someone people can look up to. This podcast is here to assist Talent in learning pride and true tactics for success in the industry.

I, Rian Donatelli, will use my 25+ years experience within this industry to discuss all these topics and more through conversions and panels with other people in the industry from talent to brand executives to the venues and establishments that we are operating in. We are going to find some hard truths that need to be heard on all fronts.

Speaker 1:

If you have been in the BA business for years and feel you already know everything, TalentBook Masterclass is not for you. If you are a BA looking to grow and scale in the business or get into the industry as a brand ambassador, TalentBook Masterclass courses are perfect for you. There are not any courses available to teach brand ambassadors how to get into the business or grow and scale in the industry. I am here to assist those that are interested in becoming better as brand ambassadors or just break into the industry in general. For those that have been a BA for years and are looking to become a team lead, grow into management, work for an agency, or possibly move up into the industry with a supplier, a brand, an agency, a talent booking agent, anything like that, this course is perfect for you.

Speaker 1:

So if you would like to join the upper echelon of brand ambassadors looking to soar in the business and you want to learn how to avoid the most common mistakes brand ambassadors make, these courses are for you. So tbmasterclass.com, you can take a look. Otherwise, just know that with over 25 years in the activation industry and a talent booking expert, I am here to teach you from brand and agency point of view how to become the best brand ambassador you possibly can. I personally vet, meet, and train all of our talent at Talent Booking Experts prior to execution. Not many agencies do this.

Speaker 1:

I also deny about 75% of BAs due to 5 mistakes that brand ambassadors make just in the application process. So let's knock out 5 mistakes brand ambassadors make in getting booked as talent. Mistake number 1 is applying for the job. 1st and foremost, how you represent yourself is very heavy. Okay?

Speaker 1:

Your social media and online appearance is very valuable to you. This does not mean the amount of followers that you have. Yes. If you're trying to break in as an influencer in the industry and get paid for online social media presence, then yes, of course, your follower count matters and they need to be legitimate followers. They need to be actual, a niche or a category of individuals.

Speaker 1:

So you really need to know your audience, and you need to know who's there. But just in applying as a brand ambassador, promotional model, or even just booked talent, you need to understand that how you represent yourself online is is everything. So take a look at those tagged photos that you're in on your social media that are visible to the public. Take a look at, you know, how you speak to others in your comments that are on, you know, even your Facebook page or your Instagram. Take a look at how these things are reflecting on you as a human.

Speaker 1:

If you're at the club, you know, chirking away in every one of your photos with very skimpy clothing, it's not a great representation if you're trying to become an online spokesmodel. So these things do matter and who you represent yourself as on and off the clock is evaluated. So Google yourself in parentheses with your full name. This will Google your first and last name together, and you'll be able to see what agency. Take a look at your tagged photos.

Speaker 1:

Like I said, go through some of your comments, go through your public photo albums, take a look what's out there and how you're representing yourself, Then consider the photos that you just applied with. Do these represent you? Is this in alignment with everything that's public? Because if you never look like your photos, we know that you're not going to show up looking like your photos. So after you've Googled yourself and looked at how you speak on your social media, your comments, and everything, then consider the images that you have to apply with.

Speaker 1:

Having a bank of images is great. You wanna be prepared with an album, a headshot, full body shot. You want generic backgrounds, you know, maybe all black clothing, but do not apply with other brands. Do not apply with other products. Do not apply it, you know, of you at a trade show.

Speaker 1:

That's not what we're looking for. We want images that we can use to present and promote you as a model. So take a look at what you have. And if you have to take your own photos, they don't have to be professional images, but your hair color needs to be current. Your eye color needs to be standard to what you're going to show up looking like.

Speaker 1:

So oftentimes, people will book and select you based off of a look that they're going for. And this is completely okay for brand to want to do. They wanna be in brand alignment with their message. They want to have, you know, the theatrical side of things match the brand. So make sure that your photos are current, make sure that they're not filtered, make sure that they're not cropped, mirror images, seat belts, all these things.

Speaker 1:

This is just laziness in the application process. You're not thinking about getting the job. So you wanna show images that reflect you in a natural way that are you, not you on prom night, not you on Friday night at midnight only once a year. They wanna see what you're going to show up looking like on a daily basis. They want them to be photos that they can use to promote you, like I said, and they want them to be current.

Speaker 1:

So this is current weight. This is current look, current hair color, current hairstyle, and all the things that you would actually show up looking like. So you can meet expectation because first impression is everything. So what they see of your images that you've provided, that's what they're expecting to show up at their event or at their footprint. So make sure that everything is in alignment and then take a look at your resume.

Speaker 1:

There is not one agency owner out there that wants a 5 page resume of every brand you've ever worked on. You can condense your resume to 1 page. You can condense your resume to length of time. You can also offer your other skill sets. I prefer a work resume so I can learn about you and what you're truly passionate about on the regular, what you're good at.

Speaker 1:

You know, if you are a teacher, you're perfect for programs that involve kids and booking that. So, you know, be cognizant of what's on your resume. And if you've worked for, you know, a 1,000,000 beer brands, that's amazing, list the mothership company. Anheuser Busch InBev, every booking agent in the alcohol business knows every brand that falls under that portfolio. That's all you need to list.

Speaker 1:

You do not need to list Budweiser, Bud Light, Bud Select, whatever it may be that you've represented. Anheuser Busch InBev is sufficient. If it's Constellation Brands portfolio, that is perfect. They do not need to know Corona, Modelo, SVEDKA, Micampo. Like, they don't need all of the information.

Speaker 1:

So a one pager that identifies your skill set, your work history, a little bit about you and truly what you're passionate about and where you're going in the summary is perfect. So give them a cliff notes version of enough to talk to you about in your interview and then following the application directions. They will request certain certifications, criteria, location, age, permits, you know, anything that's needed for the job or what the brand is looking for. So make sure you're not wasting anyone's time and you actually meet that criteria. If it's an agency that's just hiring talent and not for a specific job that you're applying for, make sure you read their requirements as well.

Speaker 1:

All of this is super important in getting the job, you know, and then also meeting expectation, applying with the right criteria. All of this is a reflection of you and your work ethic and ability to follow direction. If you are not going to follow the direction to get the job, you will not follow direction out in the field and keeping the job. So that is a big red flag to all booking agents. So you really need to be cognizant of how you're representing yourself in the initial application process and first impression.

Speaker 1:

Alright. Number 2 is following the application guidelines. Like we said, the reflection of your work ethic and applying in the job and following direction, proper requirements that you have when applying. All of these things are valuable and number 3 is follow through. This is a reflection of your work ethic as well.

Speaker 1:

So if additional things are asked of you, how quickly you respond, how you respond and speak, speaking to a booking agent saying, hey, is not the most professional. I would hope you would not meet a VP of sales for a brand on premise and say, hey, To them, I would hope that you would say hello and shake their hand. So be professional in your environment that you're in at all times and understand this is all a reflection on you and what we feel you will be doing in front of our clients. So follow through is is, is imperative and then other additional steps to take to get the job. You know, at Talent Booking Experts, we have a questionnaire.

Speaker 1:

We like to learn more about the people. This also helps us wean out the lazy. So if you are not willing to fill out our questionnaire, you're not going to do a good job on-site for us because this is what it takes to get onboarded with the agency, the agency that's going to pay you top dollar for the job. So be aware of how you're representing yourself, and I can't stress it enough. You know, the follow through application process is is imperative and everything that's asked of you.

Speaker 1:

You will meet someone from the agency at some point or from the brand. So catfishing individuals is completely disrespectful. It's also a disservice to yourself. You are going to potentially ruin your reputation out there with other agencies. You know, agencies communicate.

Speaker 1:

We do background checks as well, so we also know each other and we will ask around. So if you are ever applying, make sure, like I said, all of this is current. I get on, face to face interviews with talent and they look nothing like their photos. And it just blows my mind because I can't understand why you feel that you will get away with that. At some point that is going to catch up to you.

Speaker 1:

So honesty from the get go own who you are, represent yourself properly and be prepared. You know, education on the agency is just as valuable as education on a brand when you go to work. So be prepared with questions for who you're interviewing with. Be prepared to study prior to the interview about the agency that you're going to work for. I would hope that you would look into the agency before you apply with them.

Speaker 1:

I would hope you would do your own research. I would hope you would look at social media handles. I would hope you would ask around if you know anyone that works for the agency. If you look in the agency's groups, or any groups and see other people that are part of the agency, talk to them about their experience with the agency and then understand who you're speaking to. You know, some people may feel that it was a lot, but maybe those people are extremely lazy as well and it's not a lot for you.

Speaker 1:

So be aware of who you're speaking to, if they're qualified to give the advice that they're giving, you know, if it's a good resource, and do your research on the agency prior to applying with them. And then again, a little further research prior to interviewing with them. If, people that sit in front of me and do not have any questions for me, that's a red flag. We ask those questions before we tell more information about the agency. And if someone does not have questions about the agency or the role or even, you know, working at the company or growth opportunity or other areas that we cover working for us in other states, those are big red flags as well.

Speaker 1:

So the 5 mistakes that brand ambassadors are making in applying to be booked talent is following the guidelines of the booking, your social media, your online presence. Number 2 is following the application directions. Number 3 is the follow through of the application process, and number 4 is catfishing, representing yourself properly. And number 5 is education on the agency you are applying with. TalentBook masterclass will cover all of these details in a free course of how to get into the business.
