For multi-passionate creators who want to get paid for their knowledge and wisdom. Learn how to build a business that gives you freedom and flexibility to be your most authentic self.
Hey, it's Beau.
I think there's one thing that you
have to get used to if you're gonna
build a really successful online
business and most people, because
this is so different from what they
have lived their whole life expecting.
Like, they expect the world to work
a certain way, but when they get into
entrepreneurship, they realize that
it doesn't work that way, and then
they become frustrated, or they quit
too soon, or they jump to another
strategy too soon, or they keep, you
know, changing their direction all the
time and never getting any momentum
because they just didn't understand
that this is how this game works.
So what I'm talking about is something
that I sometimes call the lag effect.
So you have to realize that when
you're building an online business,
it's, it, it's very different than,
like, having a nine-to-five job.
When you go to work every day,
you expect that you're gonna get
a paycheck probably at the end of
the week or the end of next week.
You know, like, within a short period
of time, you expect to be paid for the
time that you're putting in, for the time
that you very recently put in, right?
And when you jump into entrepreneurship,
you start to realize that, oh, it doesn't
work like that in entrepreneurship.
Like, in entrepreneurship, the work
that you do today, it might not pay
off for months, sometimes even years.
Like, there's a l- a lag between
when you do the work and when you
actually reap the rewards of that work.
You could also think of
it like planting seeds.
You know, like, when people start
making content on social media, for
example, they, they don't get results
in the first month or whatever,
and so they quit because they just
think, like, "What's the point?
What's the point of posting
all this content if it's not
doing anything for my business?
I'm not making any money
from it, so I'll just go find
something else to do," you know?
And what people don't realize is that
every piece of content that you put
out there into the world is like a
seed, and you have to plant a lot of
seeds, and some of them will sprout.
Some of those pieces of content
will go viral maybe and get a lot of
views and help grow your business.
Also, those are seeds that are, like,
being planted in your audience's mind,
so every time your piece of content
is shown to somebody, that's like a
little seed that's planted in their
mind that's kind of like just reminding
them of you, you know, reminding
them that you exist, reminding them
of, like, how you can help them.
And you might have to plant hundreds
of seeds in somebody's mind before
they eventually, you know, someday
maybe convert into a customer, right?
But if you quit after, you know, posting
10 pieces of content because nothing came
from it, you're missing out on all the
benefits of being an entrepreneur because
you just weren't patient enough, you know?
And I see this all the time with
my clients and stuff is, like,
they'll start using a new strategy.
They'll start, you know, making content
on social media and being consistent
with that, and then when their business
hasn't taken off in 30 days, they're--
they get frustrated, and they think that
they need to change something or use
some new strategy or completely pivot
or change their niche or, you know, they
think they have to make all these drastic
changes when in reality it's just that
you haven't been doing it for long enough.
You haven't planted enough seeds.
You haven't let those seeds be nurtured
and, and eventually sprout and eventually
turn into a tree, and eventually that
tree produces fruit, and then eventually
you can eat that fruit, you know?
But that might take many months
before you can actually eat the
fruit and reap the rewards of all the
labor that you did many months ago.
So that is something that you have
to get used to as an entrepreneur,
is like you just have to realize
that what you're doing today is not
going to pay off in a week or two
weeks or even a month or two months.
It's gonna pay off many months from now,
and you just have to know that, and you
just have to show up knowing that the
actions you're taking today are gonna, uh,
be of great benefit to your future self.
They might not benefit you today
as much as you would hope, but your
future self is gonna be very grateful
that you took the time and that you
stayed consistent with those actions
