Problem Corner

This episode of Problem Corner covers last-minute Election Day information, including voting hours and changes to Juneau polling locations. The show also tackles community safety concerns, calls for increased dock safety, tourism and seasonal crowding, and a shoutout to local first responders. Between technical difficulties, listener opinions, and plenty of items for sale, Lance keeps the conversation moving with Juneau callers and community updates.

What is Problem Corner?

Speaker 2:

Welcome to Problem Corner. You're here with Lance, and I am so happy to be here. I hope everybody is having a blessed weekend. I have a guest, and he's gonna let us know about something that's very important going on tomorrow on the eighteenth. You need to vote because if you don't vote, then you cannot complain.

Speaker 2:

So he's here from the elections division, and he's gonna give us a little information about voting and where you can vote, and that kind of thing. Mister Akerada. Thank you, Vince. You're welcome.

Speaker 3:

Alright. So

Speaker 2:

Okay. You you're not I can't hear you. So maybe we'll try try the other mic over there and see if that works. Go ahead. Alright.

Speaker 2:

I'm not hearing you for some reason. So, unfortunately, I'm gonna just have you come over here. Sorry about that, We're having a little bit of technical difficulties. Alright, mister O'Carata.

Speaker 3:

I appreciate you having me on. So tomorrow is the primary election for the state Of Alaska, and we wanted to get some information out for all the voters. The election is going to be from seven in the morning to 08:00 at night, and we have had a couple changes of locations in some of the voting places. But the biggest one, which is gonna affect people that also do early voting, is our Juneau Number 2 Precinct, which is the downtown location at the State Office Building. And normally, we do early voting up until and during the election day on the eighteenth, but because of the way we had to change polling places this year, we're shutting down the early voting after tonight and tomorrow.

Speaker 3:

That area is switching to an election day polling place. So if you were looking to do early voting tomorrow, you can still do that at the Mendenhall Mall location at Region 1 over here, and that will be from seven until 08:00 at night. We also have REAA elections coming up, and starting September 6, we're gonna start taking registration for those. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the State Office Building for tomorrow, the primary location for parking is gonna be across the street from the Willoughby entrance. However, if you are, if you need ADA compliant parking and ramps, that'll be on the backside of it, go up Main Street and go off the Calhoun entrance.

Speaker 3:

Take a left on Calhoun and go behind the State Office Building and you'll see the ADA parking areas there.

Speaker 2:

Alright. So we we got we found out the real skinny. If you have any questions, contact the election division at 907465. Okay.

Speaker 3:

The main office?

Speaker 2:

Oh, go ahead.

Speaker 4:

Tell them.

Speaker 3:

Alright. So our main office is (907) 270-2700. That way, everybody in the area can get ahold of somebody if they need to.

Speaker 2:

Alright. And with that, we missed it. Miss Dan, Brandon is so busy, so we're gonna let him go. Thank you, sir, for coming and hanging out and hanging out with Problem Corner. If you ever wanna come back on, just let us know.

Speaker 3:

Oh, look forward to it. Hopefully, I have more time to actually, answer more questions and get some calls in the public. But as you can imagine, due to tomorrow, we're really busy today. But appreciate your time.

Speaker 2:

KINY. Mary Paltola served two terms in congress. She passed zero bills. Paltola voted against Alaska's energy jobs and against our defense bases. Now the do nothing congresswoman wants to raise our taxes.

Speaker 5:

Mary Paltola can't win on the issues that matter to Alaskans. That's why she and the lower 48 liberals are lying about Dan Sullivan. Here's Kodiak hunting guide, Sam Rohr, to set the record straight.

Speaker 6:

I've seen Dan Sullivan take a Kodiak brown bear down with one shot, and he brings that same toughness and focus to Washington. The lower 48 liberals, they're lying about Dan's record. Nobody fights harder for Alaska than Dan. He defends oil and gas to lower costs, creates Alaska jobs, and protects hunting, fishing, and our second amendment rights. His opponent, she was handpicked by the radical left.

Speaker 6:

Alaska needs my friend, Dan Sullivan.

Speaker 7:

I'm Dan Sullivan, and I approve this message.

Speaker 5:

Paid for by Alaskans for Dan Sullivan.

Decades of promises, decades of decline, enough. Alaska has a record number of candidates for governor, all promising what we wanna hear. More energy, cheaper energy, more jobs, but most of them have been there. They own the decline.

Speaker 18:

We don't get fooled again.

Speaker 13:

Leadership, it's not a promise. It's a record you can verify. Only one team has that record. Matt Halala and Jesse Sumner, one team with a record of actual performance, creating probably more jobs than all the other candidates combined. Matt Halala and Jesse Sumner, leadership.

Speaker 13:

Your vote is not for best hair, best dressed, best BS. Your vote is to turn the state around. On August 18, vote Matt Halala and Jesse Sumner. Don't get fooled again. Paid for by Matt Halala for governor.com.

Speaker 22:

Oh, okay. I'm just trying to say, come on, general. Slow down.

Speaker 2:

That's a lot of

Speaker 22:

You know? We've lost so many people with people OD ing. And

Speaker 22:

wanna give props and, you know, high five hands up. You know, JPD has been working hard since, you know, pretty much the July 4. So it was the paramedics, the ambulance. They have. And the fire people.

Speaker 22:

Now back to Problem Corner where our community meets to talk, trade, and share.

Speaker 2:

Alright. Back on the air. I'm k I n y. We got a call coming in. We're gonna get the call.

Speaker 2:

You're live on the air at Problem Corner.

Speaker 4:

What's up, Buttercup?

Speaker 2:

Hey. What's going on, mister?

Speaker 4:

Oh, just another day in paradise. You know, I just wish we'd get a a good medium in the weather, you know, going from hot to soaking wet.

Speaker 2:

Well, I I can't I can't complain. It it was a beautiful weekend. It was, like, four days of sunset. So I It

Speaker 4:

was hotter than the devil's bunk hole.

Speaker 2:

I I know. But, you know, I guess you can't please some people. Either you complain there's no sun or not or you complain there's too much sun. You know? What's a fair medium?

Speaker 4:

It's where it's overcloud or overcast, but not raining. That'd be perfect.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. You

Speaker 4:

know? But, hey. I would like to talk about that poor fellow that, fell off dock.

Speaker 2:

Okay. Let's talk about it.

Speaker 4:

Yeah. You know, you know, there's a lot of people that sit on the dock, you know, and and it's that and it's where people sit their foot, like, two feet high. Mhmm. What they need at the outer side is they need guardrails about three more feet

Speaker 10:

higher. Uh-huh.

Speaker 4:

Because a lot of the people that you know, they're not always tourists. We have that are usually their homeless like to sit out there, you know, especially on nice days and stuff like that, and they're usually a little tipsy.

Speaker 2:

A lot of people like to sit out there, and a lot of people be out there tipsy, not just the

Speaker 4:

homeless people. Yeah. And he's he's not the well, it's it's more dangerous for the homeless people because they're in need, you know, and stuff. But but, you know, if you put a guardrail there three more feet higher on the outer side, you know, so you can still sit there, but it make it a lot harder to fall over because he's not the first one to fall off that dock.

Speaker 2:

Okay. Alright.

Speaker 4:

And, you know, with some you know, a couple of them have been actually fatal. You know? I mean, it's it's common sense of feel. I mean well, not common sense. Well, what am I trying to say?

Speaker 4:

You know? I mean, guardrails. Put guardrails up there. That way, you know, people won't be falling off and stuff, you know, because it's it's you know, when you a lot of people like to stand up on that that sitting part, you know, it's easy to trip and fall in, you know.

Speaker 2:

I gotcha.

Speaker 4:

So, anyway, you know, I mean, it's it's that poor that poor fellow's down in Seattle right now, you know, and

Speaker 2:

Well, I hope hope god blesses him and keeps him safe, and he gets Yeah.

Speaker 4:

Yeah. Poor fella. But, yeah, he's he's on a breathing machine now and stuff. So so hopefully, he pulls through.

Speaker 2:

So Alright. Well, thank you so

Speaker 10:

my prayers, bro. And

Speaker 2:

God bless this man and protect him and keep him.

Speaker 4:

Speaker 4:

You know, I just thought I'd call and, you know, we need to get our get The United States back in from Trump. You know? He's doing too much things wrong with our country.

Speaker 2:

I'm not

Speaker 4:

You know, they

Speaker 2:

I'm not I just gonna keep my mouth shut. But

Speaker 4:

Well, I'm just saying, you know, we gotta we gotta get it back. We can't be having some Trump supporters in here, especially from Alaska saying they'll stand with them. You know, we need to get it back. So, you know, there's too much forget what's happening to our kids. A lot of them are we're not getting a lot of money for it.

Speaker 4:

We're at least cutting back on it, on the federal monies that you usually get for kids to go to school. And Yeah. Even Anchorage and Fairbanks, they're having a hard time with their funding. And you know?

Speaker 2:

I think a lot of people are having

Speaker 4:

Yeah. The only way we can get it back. You know? I

Speaker 2:

think a lot

Speaker 4:

somebody that ain't gonna stand with Trump. You know? Especially Alaska. We need we need to get it back.

Speaker 2:

I know a lot of people

Speaker 4:

are having to funding.

Speaker 2:

Having issues with, schooling and stuff like that. That's not just limited to Alaska.

Speaker 4:

Now he wants he's got this cryptocurrency. Now he wants to put our federal funding in and put it on his agenda to have it taken care of by his his family. That's not right. That's why I said we need to we need to have a good Democrat in our

Speaker 2:

Like I said,

Speaker 4:

ma'am in order to

Speaker 2:

I'm gonna thank you for

Speaker 4:

saying control. You know? Mhmm. You know, you hang up on everybody, but some of them that you talk to, they just talk about nothing.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I'm trying

Speaker 4:

to That's right.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I'm just trying to get the other calls. And, it's not it's not purposely
