Full show transcript:
Hey, yesterday you posted a video of us in the studio, and I was looking for the comment, but it disappeared. But somebody said, This looks AI. Yeah, somebody commented that.
And we went, what? What are you talking about? Well, so then I just learned about this. So that's AI. Uh doesn't necessarily mean they're talking about technology. Apparently, uh the younger generations are using that phrase, that's AI, or that looks AI. Uh, it's their version of like something is fake or sketchy or suspicious. Uh, if a toy is a cheap knockoff, or if a story sounds made up, or if something feels a little off, kids are saying, Oh, that's AI, or that looks like AI. And experts are saying this is an example of language evolving with AI becoming shorthand for anything that seems inauthentic.
Uh, in other words, like in our language, we would say, Oh, that looks photoshopped, or that looks plastic. Okay. The version before that. But that's AI is the new version of like that's fake. Okay, but it's inauthentic. But literally, the video is you saying, Hey, good morning.
We're tired, we've been back for like three hours and we have an hour to go, and and I'm in the dark in the back of the video. Like, there's nothing fake or weird or suspicious about that. Like, that doesn't make sense. So I don't make sense. I don't understand why it looks quote unquote AI. But it because it's not. It's authentic. That's real. That's you and me in the studio, and I was in the dark.
I'm also trying to find it again. Did some that's weird.
No, I'm looking at it right now on Facebook, yeah. Um, also, my beard is super white. Yeah, I know. I didn't realize that. It's glowing in the dark in the background of the video. And I'm looking at it going like, I have a really white beard. Like, it's really white.
It's like glowing in the dark.
Dude, it's so white. It is white. I didn't realize, I don't look at myself in the mirror all the time. I've seen what I look like. I don't need to look. You gotta check. I probably look at myself in the mirror like once a day. Are you insane? What's that? What's there to say?
Every time you go to the bathroom, you gotta wash your hands and look in the mirror. I don't look in the mirror. You gotta check your teeth? I don't do I have anything in my teeth? Do I have anything in my nose? But I also was in the woods for like a week. Okay.
So and I didn't have a mirror, so I didn't really look at myself. And then I saw pictures after, and I went, that's what I look like? I look like crazy person in the woods. I Wearing a big sun hat to keep my neck from getting sunburned, which worked great, by the way. But uh anyway. I it's not AI.
I think it's not AI. I just looked at the at the comment again. Yeah. It's not AI. We're that is that 100%.
That's my real white beard. That's my real gray hair poking through. That's my real gross beard. I don't see either of those things.
You look great. Anyway, that's all natural, baby. Nice. Hey, guess what? Hey, what? Here's today's show. Good morning. Day two of being back. It's going great. What is going on? What's what's happened? Uh, do you remember last week when we didn't have to wake up so early? Uh-huh.
And except I I was still up. Were you? 6:30 every day. I was not. So I like by this time I was up. I was waking up at seven. Yeah.
A little 645, seven-ish. But I kind of just like, uh, you laid in bed. And then I was like, yeah, I think I'll get up. And then I made myself some breakfast. And I took my time. It was awesome. It was awesome. So yeah, I didn't have that. Well, I did.
Because I had to wake up and then I had to sit outside in a in my chair in my backpacking chair, cooking food in my backpacking stove. Again, a choice you made. hey, hey. You made a choice as well.
Yeah, and my choice was better than your choice.
Be loungy, and then responsibility sets in, and you're like, oh man.
Yeah, this is the worst.
Right. Like, I'm I'm kind of like, cool, I'm in air conditioning. I'm inside. I'm I'm not sitting in dirt. And then I had to pack up all my stuff into my backpack and then move it miles from where I was.
I feel so bad for you.
I'm just saying, I feel like I'm now on vacation. Being back at work. I'm like, man, I get to drive. I don't have to walk from point to point.
Walking from point to point. That's what backpacking is. Yeah. That was your walk while carrying to you yesterday.
While carrying a whole bunch of weight on your back.
That was your walk. It's a heavy walk.
So it's nice. I'm kind of enjoying the uh the air conditioning and the being back and stuff. Okay. Yeah. Sorry that you're having a withdrawal. A come apart. A withdrawal from uh from my laxadaceable morning.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. From your lazy mornings of awesome. Of refreshing uh slow time.
What would you get? What are you going? I don't know where I'm going.
Because I don't have anywhere to be. I'm already here. So there's nowhere to go. Well, happy Tuesday. Yeah. I suppose. Yeah, to you as well. Thank you. How's uh how's it going? Like are you sounds like you're struggling?
I'm not struggling. I'm just tired. I didn't sleep well last night. I'm I'll be don't worry about me. I'll perk up. Don't worry about me. Listen to me. I I always perk up.
You know this. I know. You just gotta get things ramped up and up. I just gotta shh for just a minute.
And then I'll and then I'll be my jovial self. Okay. But shh for a minute. For a minute. Just shush. Okay.
All right. I'll check in again here in a minute. Okay. All right. Here's some good news. If you're up for it. Let's hear it. You up for it? Yeah. All right. Uh four-month-old pet goose named Goosey is being hailed as a hero in Fort Bend County, Texas, after alerting his family of a barn fire in the middle of the night. Uh Bert Gerber is the owner, is asleep on the couch, and Goosey started frantically honking on the back porch. So Bert stepped outside to see what in the world's going on. And uh there were flames billowing from the barn.
He managed to douse the fire with the garden hose before it could spread, which is pretty amazing. Uh Goosey's warning was perfectly timed. Goosey.
Yeah, the family said they would have been a total there would have been a total disaster for the barn and the animals inside if Goosey had waited even just a few more minutes to start honking. Uh the help that Goosey provided during the emergency strengthened the bond he has with the family and has inspired the family to adopt another goose. This time a girl goose named Lucy. Lucy and Goosey? You got it.
I want a goose. No. No, you don't. Yeah, I do. No. I want two gooses. So that's how they awarded Goosey. They said, here. Here's Lucy. Here's Lucy. You two. Save the barn. So that's the whole story. Lucy Goosey.
Goosey and Lucy. I love it.
Saving the day. It's a it's a barnyard story. Tale as old as time, they say. You save a barn from burning down. You get a girlfriend. Goosey and Lucy. Live happily ever after. At last. That's good news. You were out in your garden the other day.
Yesterday. Wait, what's today? Sunday. You're out in your garden Sunday. Yep. And you said, hey, you didn't do anything about these beats.
I didn't say like that.
I was I was just looking at.
Are you Are you proud of that one?
Yes, I'm going to be. You are. Yeah.
What I said as we were wandering through the garden was, and I gotta do something about these beats. And then I went. No, you didn't. No, no. And you you said, yeah, you got a lot of beets. And I said, No.
You pulled how many beats did you pull out? I think I harvested about half of what was in the garden that was big. So I pulled, I don't know, six or seven. Okay. Eight, maybe. And uh, and then I I put them in the bowl, and they're still sitting on the counter because I gotta do something with it.
Yeah, because then that started a whole canning Right. adventure. Right.
I need to get some garlic. So I can continue to camp.
I was at the store yesterday. I forgot about that. Oh my. We've gone to the store three times since you said you needed beets. Garlic.
I know. I need garlic so I can continue to uh pickle some things. But then I can pickle some uh beets.
I love pickled beets. Yeah, but I am the only one in the house who's gonna eat them. And so then I said, why did you grow so many beets? And you said I grew them for you. That's right.
I grew them for you, all right.
I guess that's a message of love. Yeah. You grew me those beets.
I grew you a variety of three different kinds of beets.
That's a lot of beets for one person to eat. You know how if you eat too many carrots, you'll turn a little bit orange. No. You will. Are you sure? I'm positive. Look it up. You'll turn orange. Yes.
How many carrots do you have to eat to turn orange?
How many? What happens if you eat a lot of beets? It's a surprise. Let's look at that. I know what happens. What?
It's a surprise. It is. Okay. It's a surprise. It might turn some stuff pink a little bit. That's what I'm saying. You go to use the restroom and then surprise.
Okay, but it also gives you better digestion.
So maybe I grew these beets for you. What are you suggesting?
Uh okay.
What are you digesting?
We went on a canning adventure. Yes. And I got a few things. We've never canned before. This is new for us. Which is kind of unusual for this particular area. I feel like a lot of people in this area can. Okay. And do. You were trying to find a pot that was big enough.
Yes. And then you found the biggest pot in the whole store. And I said, we don't even have a stove big enough for that. And he said, not that one. I'm not making chili for the class. That's right. And I'd never ever ever heard that before.
You've never heard the phrase, I'm not making chili for the class. Why have you never heard that? Everybody says it. Nobody says that. Yeah.
How many that big old that big old pot that you were looking at? Yeah. How much chili do you think that thing could hold? Two. Two chilies?
Two chili. I don't know. A lot. As a lot. It it was like uh for for a factory of people. Yeah, yeah. Like it would make so much chili.
But I feel like in a pot that big, the bottom would be warm, but the very, very top of it would not. Well, that's not true. You gotta do some stirring.
That is not how pots work. But stirring's important. How big a wooden spoon do you have to have to stir in that pot?
That's the other question. Oh isn't it? Well, depends. You could just use your arm.
Not in the hot chili, you can't. Put on a glove. No, I'm not putting on a long glove to stir the chili with my arm. No. What's wrong with you? That thing was probably close to two feet tall. I know, dude. And It was it was big around as you could hug.
I don't even know what you would use that pot for. Chili for the class. That's too much chili. It's The right amount of chili. It's not for the class.
If you had if you had a whole classroom or let's say a whole school. Yeah. And you were making chili for them. You need that pot.
Too many dietary restrictions. Can't beans? It's homemade, homemade chili. Yeah. You can't make it. You can't. Why? Maybe in our day. Remember when the.
Oh, back in our day.
The Halloween carnivals. And it was like, oh, come get your homemade chili.
Right. And they'd have like just a big bowl of cheese sitting there.
And everyone could just get their hands in there. That's the one. Mm-hmm. Back in our day, we had homemade chili at school. Right. Not anymore.
I bet they still homemake the chili. You can't. Why? Because you can't. Where's it come from? I don't know.
You're talking about the school lunch chili? Where do you think it comes from? I don't know. A big can. What do they put it in? That big old pot. To make chili for the class. It's a thing people say. No, no one says that. I grew beets for you. Thank you. And it's a lot of beets. So we're going to have to can some and then I'm going to have to give some away as gifts. Merry Christmas.
Beets from the garden. Can you get botulism from? I don't know.
We're going to have to do a canning adventure deep dive. I don't know how to can anything. You got to give it the old water bath. What? Okay. Whatever that is. I looked it up. What is it? I don't know.
This is this canning adventure's going well. I can see that already. Okay. Off to a good start. The beats are for you to help with your digestion.
Have you ever had some? You gotta eat some. Have you ever eaten pickled beets? Negative. Dude, they're so good. They are so good. You gotta try some, especially since you grew them. Yeah. Especially. I know. Try some pickled beets. Okay. Oh boy.
I have uh some sad news to share. And I uh I'm not super stoked about uh the news. I yesterday I got some news, and I was like, oh, this'll be this will be a good update to give you. Uh the OHIRaptor Center, uh, which has been treating Jackie of Jackie and Shadow of YouTube, Big Bear Valley Friends of Big Bear Valley Eagle Nest Cam had uh said that her condition had worsened over the weekend. Uh and so I was gonna tell you this yesterday, and I was like, this is this is not great news, and we ended up getting busy and we didn't get a chance to talk about it.
Well, by the time we got to lunchtime yesterday, uh Jackie had passed away. I know it's it's terribly sad. It is really sad, and I'm bummed out by it, and a whole bunch of people on the internet are also bummed out about it. And uh the way people handle grief has been interesting uh because you know, a lot of people as they've been watching for several years as we have, but they've been writing poetry and making art, and it's been a bright spot in a lot of people's day, uh following along with the the eagle nest.
And uh earlier this summer, uh there were some sub adult eagles that entered the territory and they challenged Shadow uh to the territory, and they challenged Jackie, and they got into aerial fights, and it was it was really crazy. And then uh Jackie had fallen uh down to the ground and she was having a hard time getting around. She was rescued, taken to this raptor center, and they've been treating her for several weeks. Um, and throughout her time at the OHI Raptor Center, every decision they said was guided by the available medical evidence, her welfare, and the responsibility to do what was in her best interest, and um unfortunately she didn't make it through.
It's so sad. We watched her for a couple of years now. We watched her with a couple of different clutches of eggs, right? I'm just happy that this last couple of eaglets that she had, she was able to have fledged the nest.
Yeah, because this year was tough. They had uh two or three eggs, but then the ravens got in there, uh the crows, whatever got in and uh and destroyed those eggs, and then she and Shadow had a second clutch uh with two eggs, and both of them uh grew up very quickly. We got to watch them this year, and they fledged and everything's been great. They have left the territory now, they're off doing their own big eagle things, and I'm worried about Shadow.
I'm worried about Shadow too. Where is he been?
Well, to the best of my knowledge, he's still kind of hanging around in the territory, it's still his zone. Shadow, but now he's gonna probably figure out what to do with the rest of his life. And and what is the nest? I mean, is it is some other eagle's gonna take over the nest now?
I don't know what's gonna happen. That's Jackie's nest. I don't know. They'd been in that valley for years, right?
Generations, yeah, for a long time. That's been the family nest. So it's super interesting, uh, the way nature works, and uh it's it's all part of it, but man, is that sad news yesterday? And people were running down the halls of like Maddie up front, and uh you know, she was having a time with it. It's it's not fun news. It's lame, it is lame.
I can't even believe you told me that. I know I'd rather be in the dark.
You would you'd find out, and then you'd be like, why didn't you tell me? And I'm like, well, I knew about it.
We got a message from someone yesterday who sent us the story, and I went, no. But sad. I know. So sad, Jackie. Oh Way to bring the mood down.
Oh, I know. I I just had to share the sad news. I said I had sad news. I didn't want to share it, but you did anyway. Now we all know. If you didn't already, because the internet moves fast. Quick. But man, that's that's sad news.
Anyway. Hopefully uh we'll we'll hear more from the friends of Big Bear Valley about uh, you know, a service or some vigils or something that are happening. I don't know what they do. What do they what do you do? I don't know. When a nature a celebrity of nature
isn't it illegal for an for you someone to kill an eagle? Well, do we know that the eagle died of natural causes? Yeah, or did the Big Bear Valley do something nefarious?
No, they did not do anything nefarious. What do you mean? What what kind of theories are you trying to throw out there? No. The sub-adult eagles entered the area, and unfortunately, Jackie did not make it through. That's a bummer. Total bummer. Yep. Sorry for the sad news.
We were eating lunch with our daughter a couple of weeks ago, and we got recognized while we were sitting there eating. There was a gentleman who came up to us and was like, Oh my gosh, I really like listening to you guys in the morning. And then he turned to Emery.
It was just you and me and Emery. And he turned to Emory and he said, How is it like living with parents that are so cool? And she didn't even look up from her phone. No. She just went, Yeah. Yeah. Sure thing. They're cool.
Yeah. Yeah. She really sold it. Yeah. And thank you, Trevor, for by the way, for saying hi. Uh when you saw us, that was that was very nice. Uh that was nice. I'm sorry that our daughter couldn't be bothered.
Sorry, our daughter's a jerk.
Yeah, they're there's something else, let me tell you.
We, I don't know about you. I say we, but I love it when I do love it when we get a little bit recognized when people come up to us.
to us. Oh, that's fun.
Because she's like, especially when she's around because she's like, oh, there we go.
There we go. Oh boy. Yeah. Because I try every day to tell her how cool I am. Right.
And she never believes me.
And all that validation just walks right up, and you're like, see? See how cool I am. See that? And she goes, mm-hmm. Yeah. Yep. Sure thing. The coolest. I'm gonna keep talking to people that I know that are actually cool. phone. But you go ahead and be cool. Sure thing, mom. Yeah.
I go. There's sometimes that we talk about stuff on the show, and I go, Oh, you guys gotta listen to this to this break.
Right. You're like, this is super fun. Like, you're gonna love this. We talked about this thing that happened in the family. And she's like, hmm. I was there for it. Why did I have to listen to it again? I was there when it happened the first time. I remember. But thank you for bringing it up for everyone. Let me go talk to my friends now.
Our kids. She told me the other day, she was like, who else is gonna keep you grounded? And I said, uh, excuse me, because she was it was like a pick on Chantel day the other day. She was picking on me, Beck was picking on me, you were picking on me.
No, and I said pick on you day.
I said, I think I'm pretty grounded my own self. Thank you very much. I don't need you to keep me grounded because I I'm not flying high with my ego or anything. Believe me, every day in my brain, it's like you're doing a terrible job.
Okay, you're not, but okay.
I'm just telling you, it happens in my brain. Yeah. So the fact that she's like, no, I gotta keep you grounded. I'm like, oh no, not necessary.
Yeah, no, you can't have your self-esteem balloon inflated too big.
Don't worry about it. It's not happening anytime soon. I don't know.
I mean, it was pretty fun. And you get a little bit of inflation when somebody walks up and goes, Hey, are you that is cool?
I do like that.
Are you on the radio? And you go, mm-hmm. I am. And then I go, Emory. Yeah, look.
Emery, we got recognized. This is what I need to start doing.
Just poking our day. Emery, pay attention. Listen. Someone, someone knows us.
Someone likes us. Emery. Someone likes your parents.
Yeah, yeah. Until they go, Yeah, you shouldn't be. And then you go, Oh, did she hire you? Gotta keep you grounded, you know. Can't be letting you float away.
She did tell me, she goes, I go, sometimes it feels like you're my worst enemy. And she goes, but I'm also your best friend. And I went, yeah, depending on the day or the hour.
Or the availability of a treat.
Yes, exactly.
How long ago did you have a treat? Oh, we're friends. That soon, huh?
For the past couple of months, I've been telling you that I wouldn't want to learn how to play the drums. Yeah. And I've been practicing daily in my car. Uh how's that going? So good. You would not even believe how good.
So I'm I got out the drumsticks to try to help you with some form. Yeah. And to give you some like practical, like drum, you know. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. One and two and three and four and one and two and three and four. And one. I've been practicing. Okay. So I found a dude who I know. Okay.
Who plays the drums, and I said, Hey, do you give lessons? And he said, I have in the past. And I said, Do you give lessons to like uh someone who is never played and who also does not know how to properly hold a drumstick? Okay. And he said, Yes. And then I had a coworker that overheard, and she said, You want to learn how to play the drums? Right. She goes, I love that vibe for you.
Okay. Okay. What a vibe.
I said, I know. Wouldn't I look so cool playing the drums? And she goes, Yes, actually. Yeah. So in talking to the potential drum teacher, I said, no, seriously. Like, I am interested in learning how to play, but you would have to go to the basics. Okay. Basics, basics, basics.
Yeah. And he was like, no, I could do that. I could absolutely do that. And uh, so now I want to really get serious about learning how to play the drums. My grandma was a drummer. Was she? Yeah. I did not know that. Yeah, in the band in Mackey, Idaho. Shut. Yeah. It. Yeah. Big time.
Uh, do you know uh Dorothya Taylor? No. Look her up. Okay. She's amazing. Um, she should be your your muse, your inspiration, your uh your I wish I was as cool as you are. Dude.
Okay. She looks pretty cool. Yeah.
Now listen to me when I tell you. She's a drum teacher and an incredible drummer.
That I told him, the potential drum teacher. Yeah. I said, hey, I just want you to know that I have some car symbols. And I'm pretty good at them. Well.
You're pretty good at drumming along to the lyrics. But I can keep rhythm. Oh, yeah?
Yeah, I can. I can do that. Okay. So there. There you go.
So Dorothy here is the godmother of drumming. That's what they call her. Oh, yeah? Yeah.
Watch out, Dorothy.
Someone's coming to take your place. Oh, whoa. You gotta watch her play. She's very, very good. Okay, I will. Yeah.
Bro, look at her little cardigan as she's playing the drums. Oh, yeah. Okay. She's really good. We have a drum kit. Yes. In our garage. We bought it for our son a couple of years ago. And it's just never piqued his interest.
He'll occasionally go out there. And he's like, I you won't set up the drum kit in the garage. I'm like, dude, I needed the garage. It sat there collecting dust for two years. So I broke it down. It's sitting in the uh up against the wall. Like it's all folded up. Like I don't know what to tell you, man. I know.
We gotta set it up because I really want to play. I really want to play.
Well, we gotta get rid of all those bins that are in the way. What are all those bins? Oh. Oh.
Those are donations. Okay. I gotta I gotta just take them. They wrote those bins rode around in my car for months, and then I finally one day was like, I gotta get these out of my car. So you put them back in the garage. Yeah. Yeah.
And that clogged up my whole flow.
Oh, right. I'll take care of them. Hey, you settle down. If I get rid of those bins, do we have room to set up the drum kit? Because listen to me. I'm gonna take these drum lessons. Okay. Because I want to play the drum kit.
You have to practice like an hour a day at least. Okay. You gotta commit to it.
You're not even my drum teacher. My drum teacher didn't tell me that.
You don't have an official drum teacher yet. Yes, I do. No, you had a drum teaching conversation.
He was pretty excited about it, though. He was like, dude, call me. I'll teach you. And I was like, okay. I'm ready. I got I got drumsticks. Yeah. I'm ready. I've been carrying them around in the car. The drumsticks? Yeah. You have? Yes. Are they in your car and now? No. I can't because I can't do it when I'm driving.
You can't be having drumsticks around.
Carry them around when I'm driving with you so that while you're driving, I can safely practice. What a treat. Yep. You're welcome. I told him. because I said, listen, Josh told me that all I need to practice right now is a kick drum, a hi hat, and a snare. Snare. To start. And he goes, well, to start. He doesn't know anything about drumming. Give me a break.
Before you can start doing drum fills and stuff on the toms and the and the bass drum and entering into cymbals and everything. You gotta have the basics down. And the basics are gonna be you the hi-hat, your kick drum, your snare. Those are your basics, so you can start doing some of this action. Okay. You know? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We actually know quite a few people who drum. Yeah. I need to talk to some of these other people. I could get lessons from so many people. Yeah. You could. Huh. Huh. I gotta start reaching out to more.
I know like four drummers like this quick. I can think of four drummers. Me too.
Soon to be five, because I'm gonna be one. Oh yeah? Yeah. And then I'm gonna be one. Oh yeah? Yes. Dude. My coworker said, I love that vibe for you. And I said, me too. What a vibe. Dude, I'll be so cool. There is a Lego game. So Netflix has this new thing where you can play games. Like you've played Tetris and Boggle.
Yeah, you you all loved playing boggle with me.
But playing boggle with Josh is the dumbest game you've ever played. Why? Because you're really good at it, and it's no fun for any of the rest of us. I have a good time. Okay. So they have like a Lego mini game thing on there.
Yeah. It's so fun. When did you play it? Well, we played it before you left to go on your hike.
And then me and Emery played it a couple of different times during the week. And it's so fun. The excite bike one is my favorite. I know you do like that one.
But I'm pretty good at that one too.
I was also pretty good at that one.
Yeah, until you flip over trying to compete with me and you go upside down and then all your dude gets stuck swimming. And then everybody goes, How do you keep winning?
What I do like when we do anything competitive is that you and Emery are very like-minded in the way that you're both you both have the same competitive spirit. And you both think the same way when it comes to competition and competing. And Beck and I are the same, where we're just like, eh, we're here to have fun. If we win, cool. If we lose, cool.
That's not even close to true. You think when you're playing against me, you sit there and go, oh, this is fun. I whether when I win or lose, I'm having a good time. No. Wrong. That is not the attitude in the room at all.
What's the attitude in the room?
I'm gonna meet you, and there's a whole bunch of trash talking, and then you lose, and then you're like, I'm not even having fun.
I would I would say that when you throw Emery in the mix, though, the odds of me winning are very slim because the two of you can compete really close head to head. And the two of you were competing very tightly. Yeah. And then she and I, I was gonna call her today too, because I need her to chime in on this conversation because we both agree that you are a very bad loser.
I know. The whole time I'm playing, this is how you guys get in my head. You go, Well, it's it like to be a bad loser. You're not even you you can't stand it if you don't win. And I'm like, I'm fine, just having a good time playing the game right now. And you're like, oh, are you? I bet if you lose you won't be.
I go, what is this attitude? I'm sorry. One time in the history of us being together for 23 years, one time I had a bad losing experience. Josh, well, and I I had a little bit of an issue, and it was uh it was this was very much like 22 and a half years ago during a summer camp out where everybody thought it was a fun time to skip me so I couldn't play the game and I got frustrated and I left the table. That's it.
One time. That is not the only time that you've ever been mad about losing.
No, I've been upset. No one, no one is like, I lost. What a great day. I do. No, you do not.
That's such a lie. I lose all the time. Are you crazy? And then I go, oh well. Every time I play a game, I lose. What are you talking about?
I'm just shaking my head over here.
My favorite part also was when I thought I was doing really well.
And then I was like, you realized you were watching me play. Like, I thought I was that guy. No. That's me.
You know how when you used to play video games with your mom or your grandma. And you'd be like, oh mom, oh grandma. No. Because they couldn't play anything. I feel like I am that person now. I am the mom that's like everyone's like, oh, mom. Like my kids were like, here comes mom.
You want to know a fun game to play with four people is that Super Mario game where everybody has like uh a different character on the screen. The side scrolling one. Yeah, and if you if you don't keep up with the team, you end up in a bubble. Yeah. Yeah, that one. Yeah. That you eventually just put yourself in a bubble and float along. Inevitably, you're like, I can't keep up with everybody. I'll just bubble up. Yeah.
Happy to be here.
And then eventually what happens in the room too is we're like, we give you a good amount of time to try. And then one of the kids goes, bubble up, mom. Go in a bubble. You're holding us back. Bubble up. All right. Yeah. So, you know. And you're and you're just happy to be there. I am just happy to be there.
I'm happy to be invited to play.
Unless it's a competitive one with me, in which case you're like, dude. If it's just you and me. Yeah.
But if Emory is there, then she takes on the competitive spirit. And I'm like, well, I'm never gonna beat either one of you. So I'll just ride back here slowly. I'm in my bubble. Back to school is coming, is here, I guess, essentially. I know a lot of people are started registering and stuff, but right now, uh my algorithms are giving me like 30 adorable back to school lunch ideas. Oh, hold on. And I go, past Who's got time?
Keep scrolling. Is this like a like a bento box thing. Like, look how you can make carrots and cute little meat rolls
and when it's Halloween time, you can make your sandwich look like a spider. Oh man.
Why does that frustrate you so much?
Because there are moms out there who do this. Yeah. And you're making the rest of us look bad. Yeah. Stop it.
Because your kid rolls up with that awesome bento box and pulls open that lid and goes opening up opening up those flaps and they flip it open. And then look, all this food displayed.
Cute little lunch.
And then here comes our kid barely with a lunch bag, like a brown sack. Brown paper sack. Roll tops roll top sandwich bag. Like enjoy your lunch. Here you go, kid. Eat up. Why is there an apple in here? It's an apple at Capri-Sun and a P B and J.
To those moms who do this. Stop it. Yeah. You're making the rest of us look bad. Yeah. Stop it. Oh, but my kids love it. Yeah. If you're gonna do that for your kid, you have to do it for mine too.
Yeah, yeah. Share with the class, huh? Did you bring enough to share with the whole class? Then you can't have that treat.
Let me say that our son, when he would go through school, he didn't, he was very easy. Oh, yeah. Very easy.
He was just always out of lunch money.
And that was fine. Because that's the one. No, but that was but he didn't mind the school lunch. He ate the school lunch all through elementary, all through middle school, all through high school. Uh pizza rippers. When he did want like a homemade lunch, it was super easy. He was just like, Yeah, I'll take a turkey sandwich. Like easy peasy. And then our daughter came along and she was like, I just don't want to find yeah.
That's that's a challenge. Uh and then, and then you're like, dude, just eat the chips and cheese if you like you like that. No.
Well, and it depends on the day, too. Like Tuesdays, I only like nachos, but Wednesdays, I hate nachos. Oh, I really like uncrustables, but only the raspberry kind. And then the very next day after you buy a Costco box of uncrustables, she's like, I've only ever eaten the grape ones.
They used to bring a deli truck to the junior high school and it would go off front. I love getting food from the truck. Yeah. That was always cool. They did that at my school too. And then in high school, we had open campus. And so I spent a lot of time getting a soft taco with no lettuce on it. A lot of time.
Open campus makes me nervous. I always get nervous when my kids would leave for lunch because it gets dangerous. I totally agree. And you have a time limit.
And everybody's trying to leave and get back at the same time. That's right.
So I'm always like, please don't leave for lunch.
But we didn't have like it was a big deal if you were going to try to go to certain restaurants because they were either going to take too long or they were too far away. There was a deli that was really close that was really quick and they knew students were on lunch. And uh and I really liked going there. Because you went to Skyline?
I did. So I used to go to the deli, and then I would go get a taco. And if if we you know, sometimes like a McDonald's or a Burger King or whatever. But I worked at Burger King, so going there felt like I'm going to work. So it wasn't like a very often thing that I'd go through there. But a lot of a lot of soft tacos and a lot of deli sandwiches.
Well, in Burley, there wasn't anything close to our high school.
I know. You had to drive almost clear across town to get a fast food.
Yeah. And if you went with there was a boy who used to load up his pickup and we could load up in his pickup and he would cruise. Uh-huh. And we'd be like, This is very good.
This is why you're worried. This is why you're worried now.
Oh, yeah, for sure. Yeah.
We stayed within our zone. Like there was no going to Taco Bell. It was too far away.
Yeah. We had some too far aways. Yeah. Everything was too far away in Burley. You could you could drive down to the corner grocery store, John's. At John's? Yep. And you could get a sandwich there. But that was a lame.
Sandwich at Johns.
That was lame. Nobody wanted to do that.
A little gross grocery store deli sandwich. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Ew, you went to John's. Ew, what are you? That's what they would say. They would. Ew.
You're having a John sandwich? Ugh.
Emory drove us to run some errands one night. Beck drove us to dinner one night.
Why weren't you driving? You just wanted to be chauffeured around.
Yeah. Well, and they were like, I'm happy to drive, I'll do it. Okay. And I was having some complications with my power steering, and I didn't know how to check. Is that still going on? Yes. I haven't looked at it. No, I know.
You said something's up with my car. And I'm like, yeah.
Beck and I tried to look at it. I go, Beck, do you know where my power steering fluid is? And he goes, Yeah, I can figure it out. And then we opened my hood. Yeah. We couldn't find it. Okay. He was going to start taking some stuff apart. And I went, no, no, no, no. I'll just wait till Dad gets up.
Who's he gonna take a pot?
I don't know. But you know, our son likes to take stuff apart and then he doesn't know how to put it back together. Yeah. And so I said, no, let's just leave everything as is. He goes, I think it's under here. If I just take that apart, and I went, no, no, no, no. I'll just wait till dad gets home. And then I practically shut his head in the hood.
Yeah, never mind. Never mind. I couldn't quit. Quit looking. Quit looking at it. Okay.
Okay. So when I was driving with Emery. Also, when we ride in the when our kids do drive, you and I typically ride in the back seat. Well, no.
When Emory drives, you ride in the front. I usually ride in the front. When Beck drives, we end up in the back seat in his little sporty little car that has coil over suspension, and it's a very rough ride.
That's a rough ride. I rode in the back seat by myself, and it was lonely. Yeah. When we ride in the back seat together, it's fun because we make fun of our kids, but it was lonely when I was all alone. And they were making fun of me. Oh no. And that was no fun. Well.
Why were you such an easy target?
Okay, listen, the point I'm bringing this up. The reason I'm bringing this up is because when Emery was driving, it's always interesting to hear their song choices. But she turned on some depeche mode, and I went, Emory, you like depeche mode?
And she said, Yeah, dog. You're saying depeche mode? Which song? Enjoy the silence. Okay. And I she goes, Yeah, duh.
Like, duh. And I went, Well, I'd like to pech mode. And I have for a really long time. Depeche mode. Like this song was this was big when I was young. Yeah. And she was like, Oh, I've known about Depeche Mode for a long time. I'm like, girl, please.
And then she was kind of I always think my kids are gonna be excited and think that I'm cool. No. For knowing what they're listening to. But no, they don't.
That song came out in 1990. Yeah, I was nine years old. Yeah, look at that. Look at that. It is their biggest hit.
But Okay. I just tell your story. No, that's my story. I told the story. Oh, okay. And I I just thought maybe she would be excited because I was like, I love Depeche Mode. Yeah. And she was like, I've known about them for a long time. I'm like, oh, have you? Name three songs. Yeah. Yeah.
Put her to the test. Be like, name two other songs.
What's the name of the album this song is on?
See, though, you can't, because I'm not good with albums. I can name artists and songs, but I'm not good with albums.
Well, the album Violator that that song is on was the seventh studio album from Depeche Mode. Seventh? Yeah. Really? Yeah. I did not open it. See? The things you can learn.
I'm gonna come, I'm gonna hit her with all those facts.
Yeah, you're gonna be like, oh yeah, you're a big depe fan.
You've been a depe mode fan for a while. The band members in depeche mode. Oh, I don't even think I could do that. No? No, could you? No.
But I am not over here claiming to be a bigger depech mode fan than anyone else.
Yeah, no, I don't. I've never heard of any of these people. Oh no. Three of the people have died. Three of the band members have died. Well there are two official members left in Depeche Mode. Oh no. Dave and Martin. Yeah. Yeah. Good job knowing that.
Well, I got Wikipedia pulled up. You think I knew the name of the album and that it was the seventh one? You thought that was top of mind knowledge? Did I did I sell it that well? Uh no. I had to look that up.
Well, I always think I'm gonna be cool in front of my kids, and turns out they're not impressed by me much. No. No.
Shania Twain wrote a song about that. Cool. Don't impress me much. Oh, yeah. If you didn't get the reference, I did. Did you get it? You are cool. Yeah. Let me drop some Shania Twain knowledge on you. Hey, uh, can we talk about uh Ann Hathaway uh and what people are rumored to be calling her fake baby bump.
I don't necessarily know if I agree with that, and I don't
know You don't you don't agree with people calling it fake?
Yeah, yeah. Why do they think it's fake?
I don't know, because it it sort of looks costumey, maybe. Uh, but she said, uh, no, it's it's a real bump. Um, but a bunch of people were like, why does it look so fake? And then uh somebody else said, Come on, that's not real. Uh, but she announced in June she is expecting her third child with uh her husband, Adam Shulman, and her baby bump, she decided to show off at the premiere of the end of Oak Street. What do you think about that movie?
I don't necessarily know. It's like the dinosaur one, right? Uh-huh. Where like something happens, yeah, like there's like a little bit.
And like their whole neighborhood travels back in time to pre-est.
prehistoric time. Their neighborhood shifts or something. Yeah, right. Yeah, I don't know.
I mean, I don't know if that's necessarily what I'm gonna pay to see in the movie, but if it comes on a streaming service, I might watch it.
So she was walking the I I would call it a red carpet, but they used grass. So she's walking the grass carpet uh for the premiere of the end of Oak Street, and she's wearing uh what the designer has called a sculptural high low halter top with a cascading train. It's one of the weirder tops I've ever seen.
Well, and her jeans are so low
rised, she is wearing the low rise uh jeans with the flair, they are a uh uh flared leg or like a is that a straight leg? I don't know what that is. I'm not a fan of this look. I'm not either.
I really am not. Um if you were a celebrity and you had all of these like fashion designers that were like, here I picked out the perfect dress for you. If you hated it, what would you even say? I don't even know. You would just have to trust them and go with the backlash.
I mean, here's the thing the internet's blown up talking about this look. Yeah, so it's achieving something. That's true. Whether that's movie promotion, whether that's Anne Hathaway's name, yeah, whether it's the designer's name that I can't pronounce. I even tried to look up the pronunciation, and I got nowhere.
I don't know how to I don't know how to pronounce it. Um as far as people commenting on a fake baby bump, she sort of clapped back on Instagram and she said, fake hair, real bump. Okay. So she's like taking it in stride, right?
Um Yeah, I don't necessarily know why they're saying that it's a fake. Yeah, I don't know. But I the outfit's not my thing. Yeah. So but I've never been one for fashion. What do I know?
So uh here's here's some praise that people did give her. Uh one of the uh people Charlotte Cripps wrote in The Independent said it might be an outfit that her social media critics wouldn't be seen dead in, but it's a clear message of body positivity, strength, and gender equality, and it's her unique expression of the next chapter of her life.
Okay, yeah, I think that's a lot of and then the telegraph.
They said uh though drawing criticism from some, the look is just the latest example of a celebrity literally letting it all hang out.
Yeah, yeah. I think you're putting to oh what this outfit means is this, and I go, nah, maybe it's just somebody had an idea and they sewed it together. End of what it means. Yeah, I don't think I do.
Here's the thing I think is interesting. That it's like this baby blue kind of color. Is that signifying that maybe she's having a boy? Oh uh, but it's got this sort of like bright red underlining layer that matches her lipstick and her shoes. Oh wow. Isn't that isn't that cohesive? Oh, wow. From top to bottom. Fashion. A cohesive fashion. Turn to the left. Fashion. Turn them to the right. I don't understand it.
Uh I don't I don't like it. I don't know. I don't like that look, Ann Hathaway. And then snuffing against you.
Yeah, I mean, the designer made it. It's just a strange look.
It's just, and it's mostly the low rise jeans. You know what it might be. She should have, you know what she should have done. What? You know how they make those pregnancy pants, and it's like yeah, mostly elastic.
But the top part is like, yeah, it fits over your belly to give your belly some support. Right. And it's just that stretchy material. That's what she should have worn.
Big elastic, covered up the belly that was poking out. Yeah. I think she wanted to show off the belly.
No, I think so too, but every pregnant woman has worn those pants like a yeah, I don't want stretchy pants.
It's a bizarre one. I uh look, and maybe it's the Audi belly button looking like Charlie Brown's nose poking out from underneath the shirt. It might be that. It might just be that I'm like, why are you hiding Charlie Brown? Because that's when I look at it now, I go, it's Charlie Brown. Charlie Brown's in a in like a cloak. It's it's cloak Charlie Brown.
Go look at the picture. If you lift up the cloak just a little bit, you're gonna see Charlie Brown eyeballs. I'm telling you, that's what it is. It's Charlie Brown's face under a cloak.
That is absolutely what I'm looking at right there. That is funny, Josh. It is Charlie's.
It's Charlie Brown. It's Charlie Brown's face in a cloak. Charlie Brown, get out of there. Yeah, what are you doing, dude? Charlie Brown in a cloak.
Oh, that's funny, Josh. I got a rock.
Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather your spouse choose your next hobby or your next vacation? Vacation. Why? You think I'm gonna pick a good vacation? Yeah. Oh, I'm gonna take us to that creepy island. No. Yes. Why? Because I want to go there. I don't. Well, I do. So I'm choosing.
It's not a vacation. That's a horror. Yeah, I know. I don't want a trauma experience. Let's go do something fun.
Where do you think I would take you on vacation?
Well, you just said some creepy island.
Okay, but for real. I'm obviously not gonna go there if I'm choosing vacation. I'm gonna go somewhere tropical. Okay. But you have to go swimming in the ocean. I can like wade. No.
Why do I have to go swim in the ocean?
Because we're gonna go swim with sea turtles, remember? Yeah. Like snorkel. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Down? Maybe. Can you drive? Turkey. What do you you're gonna pick vacation? I think. If I was to choose your next hobby, what do you think I would choose?
I don't know. Something ridiculous. Roller skating. See. I don't want to give you ideas.
You'd be you're already do a little bit of roller skating. I did aggressive inline. Oh, I know. Yeah. I'm very cool. I know, Josh.
In my K2 Backyard Bobs. I know, Josh. With my helmet. You know what the sticker on the back of the helmet said? No. Caution live animals. Because you know, there's hamsters running my brain. That's why. That's why. It had a live animal stuff. I thought it was in the back of my helmet. Because you're so unleashed. No. No, it was because there's no brains in there, just a hamster on a wheel.
You're so aggressive with your inlines that you're unleashed. No. No. This animal can't be tamed.
No, it's not that.
I don't know. What hobby would you give me? I don't know.
What would I have? You you pretty much do all of the hobbies already. There's nothing. Don't do all the hobbies. What hobby could I pick for you? Hmm. I don't know. What hobby would you pick for me? Fishing. Right? Top global hobbies. I'm going to pick ceramics for you. That's fun. Ooh, you know what I mean?
I would rock a pottery wheel. You know what I would pick for you? What? Is rock climbing. Because you also want to rock climb. I like rock climbing. I know. I don't mind it. I'm fine. I'm good for a ballet. I like I like to repel.
You do?
I don't mind it. No. Yeah, it's great. It's been a long time. But have you done it on real rock? No. Do you want to? Kind of. It's cool. Scary. It's not bad.
I like rock climbing. It's been a long time.
Do you like the climbing part or the repelling part?
I like the climbing. Or both. Well, I like both, but the climbing part is the part that I enjoyed.
I really like the repelling part.
You can just go and repel sometimes. I know. I like that. Okay. Let's go rock climbing. We haven't done that in a long time.
That's fine. That sounds good. Reading, video gaming, gardening, fishing, and music and arts are the top global hobbies. You already do those. I do all that. I read through the list and went, yep. Yeah, you already do that. Yep. Yep. Yep. And yep.
Stargazing, you do it. I do it. Gold panning. You do it.
Golf. Riding a motorcycle.
Yard work. Golf. I would never pick that. Boring. Jiu Jitsu. Or another martial art. That sounds fun. Let's do that. You want to learn a martial art? Sure.
Uh, this guy said, I like building models. Did that. I've done that a lot. I like gardening. Yep. Got it. Riding my motorcycle. Boating. Dungeons and dragons. No. Knife collecting. No. Not those. Okay. Woodworking. Aquariums.
I'm going to just pick uh I'm just going to pick you pick our vacation. That's what I'm going to choose for us. Pinball. Cycling. Got it. Done it. So you want me to pick a vacation? Yeah. And then I'll pick a vacation. Let's just go on vacation.
Let's go on vacation and rock climb. Okay. Got it. All right. Would you rather this or that?
