Flyover Film Country

you thought we were just a movie podcast, huh? think again: it's HAIM time! three jewish sisters with musical chemistry to put Fleetwood Mac to shame. and yes, this isn't just a whimsical foray into music journalism. olivia and i are huge, huge fans of HAIM, going all the way back to 2014 when they released Days Are Gone, their first album. remember that cover art, the three of them sitting posed in sync on lawn chairs in the sunshine? we share some fun clips from their best music videos with walter, who i don't think really ended up being sold on the band, but then again, its not really his speed. we still love him. essentially, this is a normal-length episode where we give a brief overview of the band, our top 10 songs and styles across each album, and review i quit - their new album.

What is Flyover Film Country?

Flyover Film Country is a podcast about movies set in places oft-forgotten by Hollywood. Olivia Clement and Isaac Sims are your co-hosts, bringing unique perspectives from Arkansas and Oklahoma! Produced by Walter Lyle.

Danielle (00:01.503)
Wasting time driving through these side because I can't decide if we're through and if we are

what we're gonna do.

relationships

Danielle (00:27.913)
Welcome to fly over film country. I'm Isaac Sims joined by Olivia Clement driving through the east side because she can't decide whether or not we're through with this Do you want to burp you can go ahead? Okay, I burped really loud right before we started Well, welcome. We're not talking about movies today. So if that's why you're here, you could just get the hell out because we're talking about

HAIMing Out With My Friends (00:31.975)
I'm Olivia Clement. you're gonna switch it up? my gosh. So true. No, not anymore, it's past.

Danielle (00:58.227)
One our favorite bands today, Heim, Three Sisters, One Movement, Three Women in Music, Four Albums, One Confused Producer, Who is Heim? Well Walter, we're gonna tell ya today. Why did it insert the whole video? Anyway, it's funny.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:01.373)
Boop boop.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:22.525)
I'm gonna miss her to the whole clip.

Who Is Hime (01:22.638)
I don't know. I told you I was gonna put it in here.

Who Is Hime (01:28.174)
Just for one more, one more for good measure.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:34.909)
you

Danielle (01:35.881)
You can, you can, I'll let you have it twice because we basically asked you to be on here even though you're, you don't know anything about Heim.

Who Is Hime (01:35.886)
You

Who Is Hime (01:42.902)
I told y'all I know nothing about... Haim.

Danielle (01:47.061)
him.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:48.218)
It's higher.

Who Is Hime (01:51.171)
Hello.

Danielle (01:51.531)
Hi, I'm, hi, I'm Isaac. Dad jokes. Yep. We're, yeah, but, uh, we are usually a film podcast, but today we are a music podcast. We've talked about music a little bit here and there, but this episode idea came up pretty organically. I texted Olivia said, I'm, his new album is coming out.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:54.213)
Anyway, I-

Who Is Hime (01:54.282)
Hi to you too.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:59.006)
Anyway, this is chaotic already.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (02:10.823)
We are.

Danielle (02:21.682)
You love Haim. I love Haim. Want to talk about this album? One more Haim.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (02:26.597)
And I said, one more time, one more time, yes.

Danielle (02:29.865)
One more high.

So we're doing it. Their album, I quit came out last, Friday and it slaps. really good. I've listened to it a lot and we're going to power rank their albums. We're going to talk about the band. We're going to talk about our favorite songs. We're going to educate Walter and he's going to love the band once we're done. And then we're going to wrap up.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (02:42.127)
It slaps, Yes.

Who Is Hime (02:54.253)
Okay.

Danielle (02:58.986)
Glen plower Powell and twisters Glen plowell. okay, but we are going to hit a couple preambles that are movie related things before we jump in. F one cargo fast. Great movie. did you see an IMAX Olivia?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (03:00.925)
hahahaha

HAIMing Out With My Friends (03:06.013)
This is gonna be a fun episode.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (03:20.923)
I did, I did see it in IMAX, did you?

Danielle (03:23.762)
I did, I did, it was really good. It would be interesting to talk about Brad Pitt's public persona on another episode where we have a little bit more time to do that, but that kinda kept getting in the way for me because he was phoning it in big time, like during a lot of important scenes between other characters. It was very strange, but those cars were going real fast, so.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (03:35.869)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (03:45.914)
Yeah, this was not his best acting performance. Yeah. Yeah, it was fun. And Hans Zimmer was having fun. So, on that score. So, great. Great time.

Danielle (03:53.383)
I was having fun.

Danielle (03:58.537)
Hans Zimmer was having fun. Walter, you should go listen to that soundtrack. It's so good. It's like doing, it's Hans Zimmer doing techno. It's like challengers, but with fast cars.

Who Is Hime (04:10.796)
Okay.

Danielle (04:15.034)
Trying I'm trying to bring in but you know, we'll keep it going Walter did you hear that James Bond found a new director?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (04:15.173)
Anyway.

Who Is Hime (04:17.23)
I really appreciate your efforts.

Who Is Hime (04:26.862)
Our boy Denis. Y'all, I keep up with the news, alright? Come on. It's only because y'all blow up our Instagram group chat about 20 times a day with all the latest movie news, so one of you sent that.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (04:29.659)
Yes.

Look at this cinephile.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (04:43.206)
It's.

Here's what's probably happened. I probably sent it first and then Isaac, who doesn't check it, will send it 15 of the same things I've already sent. So you probably got it like two or three times. So yeah, you know, anyway, but you got it and that's all that matters.

Danielle (04:45.95)
Probably Olivia.

Who Is Hime (04:53.164)
and then take credit for discovering it. Yeah, that's probably true. Probably true. That is all that matters.

Danielle (04:53.3)
Mm-hmm.

Yep. Yep.

Danielle (05:02.408)
They have not cast Dream's Bond, but...

We'll probably find that out pretty soon.

Who Is Hime (05:07.15)
So this is a, they're starting a new, whole new bond? No, I don't think I knew that.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (05:11.067)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Danielle (05:12.774)
Amazon paid the broccoli family like a billion dollars to get the full creative rights and they're going younger and apparently I Guess Aaron Taylor Johnson still is in the running, but Tom Holland is also in the running and Jacob Elordi Yeah, everyone's like no Tom Holland. No, thank you

Who Is Hime (05:17.71)
Hmm?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (05:31.023)
No. No.

Who Is Hime (05:32.61)
Tom Holland wouldn't be a good fit for it. Jacob Elordi, I don't know, I've only seen him in Kissing Booth, so I don't have a whole lot of frame of reference. Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (05:37.662)
I also do not like that idea. I do not like that casting. Someone said, Jacob Elordi riding around on a boat in London or in Paris and then just getting it just decapitated because he's so tall trying to go under those bridges. He's too tall.

Who Is Hime (05:54.958)
Now I will I'll say this a lot of people you remember before Robert Pattinson was like everybody's favorite he first he was Cedric Diggory and then Edward Cullen and Everybody was like he's not a serious actor. Like he's just gonna be this teen heartthrob guy and since then he has not done that and been incredible

HAIMing Out With My Friends (06:11.783)
Right.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (06:22.749)
He's been a freak in everything.

Who Is Hime (06:25.823)
and everything. Same with Daniel Radcliffe, like, he's only ever Harry Potter. That man has been, like, doing wacky stuff. So all that to say, I think actors can shed typecasting if they're good enough. Maybe Jacob Elordi is one of them. Not Tom Holland. I'm not gonna say Tom Holland. Jacob Elordi could be one of them.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (06:28.828)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (06:33.533)
Yeah.

Danielle (06:39.839)
Not Tom Holland.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (06:39.868)
Yes.

Danielle (06:46.915)
I Jacob Elordi could be good. Tom Holland's just like, no, imagine it's like, there's like a, it's like a, you know, a James Bond-esque intimate scene in Tom Holland's like, wow, huh? man, yeah, that's really nice. Okay, okay.

Who Is Hime (06:47.309)
I see potential.

Who Is Hime (07:00.192)
I do.

I do not want a Tom Holland sex scene ever

HAIMing Out With My Friends (07:05.149)
And he's only doing his American accent. Hey.

Danielle (07:08.971)
Yeah, yeah.

Who Is Hime (07:10.989)
Mr. Stark.

Danielle (07:12.427)
Mr. Stark, those are, wow!

Who Is Hime (07:15.533)
Those are- did you say those are? Wow.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (07:16.997)
Okay, I think.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (07:22.919)
I think it should be Dev Patel. Like, for real. Mm-hmm.

Who Is Hime (07:25.773)
Ooooo

Danielle (07:26.027)
Yeah, someone else apparently, Theo James is also in talks and I think he would be really good.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (07:31.611)
He would be good. He would be really good, I think. Yes.

Who Is Hime (07:33.645)
Can I throw something out there? Okay. I don't know which direction to go now. How much backlash, I'm not saying this would be right, but how much backlash do you think they would get for casting a non-white person as James Bond?

Danielle (07:35.527)
No. Do it.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (07:48.541)
So much. So much.

Danielle (07:51.828)
All of MAGA is just gonna like go up in arms and they're gonna forget that James Bond is British. We're so mad that you cast like Deb Patel or Idris Elba. I don't think Idris Elba is in the running, if it was someone or like Daniel Kaluuya apparently is in the running. And who would be good?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (07:58.041)
hahahahah

Who Is Hime (08:11.051)
If they're trying to go young, they should not- ooooh He'd be good. He would be good.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (08:12.592)
oof yeah or or the the kid from f1 dampson yeah he would be really good anyway so

Danielle (08:19.997)
Honestly, Damson and Idris would be pretty good.

Who Is Hime (08:27.105)
I love fancasting though, that's so fun. I'm being serious.

Danielle (08:29.607)
I still want to do an episode about where we like cast a movie with whoever we want. I think that would be really fun. For example.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (08:36.606)
Okay, great.

to it. Ligur's piece pizza.

Danielle (08:42.857)
Licorice pizza with me and a lot of high. no, for example, like imagine Daniel Radcliffe and Robert Pattinson reuniting in a movie where they're like good cop, bad cop, like good cop, coked up, cock or cop or so something. Coke, coked up, cock, cock.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (08:47.878)
hahahaha

Who Is Hime (08:48.205)
you

HAIMing Out With My Friends (08:58.142)
Ugh.

Who Is Hime (09:04.075)
Go go top guy. Was that a Freudian slip there?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (09:04.452)
What was that?

Who Is Hime (09:12.503)
Sorry, sorry.

Danielle (09:12.913)
sorry. That was, we were up at the, at a resort on the white river in North Arkansas this weekend and there were peacocks. there were peacocks like roaming around the grounds where we were staying. And at one point Sophie was like, peacocks, peacocks, hi cocks.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (09:13.456)
Hehehehehe. Hehehehehe.

Who Is Hime (09:17.589)
Sorry.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (09:24.445)
Why's it gonna be white?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (09:32.478)
Mm-hmm.

Danielle (09:39.755)
Hi, Cox! Like really loudly. It's like, I don't, we weren't at the pool, we were somewhere else, but there were a couple other people and I was like, maybe if I don't bring attention to it, she's just gonna stop saying it. And she did, but it was pretty funny. Anyway.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (09:41.79)
Hahaha!

Who Is Hime (09:54.349)
You

HAIMing Out With My Friends (09:54.366)
That's good.

Who Is Hime (09:56.888)
Back to James Bond, they should do like a multiverse Avengers thing and bring back every James Bond, every actor who's played James Bond, and the ones who are dead, they CGI them in.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (09:57.246)
That's really funny.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (10:07.98)
like what they did with the Flash movie. Yeah.

Who Is Hime (10:10.591)
Mm-hmm. On that note, either that or just Nicolas Cage as the next James Bond.

Danielle (10:12.403)
Joel, see the flash.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (10:18.587)
Okay.

Avida.

Who Is Hime (10:22.101)
Nicolas Cage is in any role in anything.

Danielle (10:22.131)
I love Nicolas Cage so much.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (10:24.912)
Any role. He would be s- he would be such a good villain. he'd be such a good villain. Also a great Bond girl.

Danielle (10:26.099)
Nick Cage is the villain?

Who Is Hime (10:29.053)
Nick Cage as the new Bond Girl.

Danielle (10:32.427)
Hahaha

Who Is Hime (10:34.442)
Yeah.

Who Is Hime (10:44.465)
yeah.

Who Is Hime (10:50.229)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (10:50.462)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (10:55.422)
What else is everyone watching? There we go.

Danielle (10:55.723)
28 Years Later is my second favorite movie of the year behind Sinners. It was incredible. I'm assuming Olivia you did not see it.

Who Is Hime (10:55.938)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (11:08.35)
Hell no. Absolutely not.

Danielle (11:10.911)
Walter would have loved it if I if right, right, right, right, right. Because yeah, child and instrument and stuff. Yeah, there's a scene. It ends up being like.

Who Is Hime (11:12.341)
You know I didn't see it.

Who Is Hime (11:18.411)
Yeah, I've...

Danielle (11:24.819)
It's a horror movie, but it ends up being something like very, very different. And I actually at one point was like weeping. it not, and not because Walter didn't see it because of the upsetting things with children that happened at the beginning of the movie, but it's, it is kind of about parenthood. And there was a certain point where I was, I like could not stop crying and in a good way, it was like very sweet and sincere.

Who Is Hime (11:34.22)
Mm.

Who Is Hime (11:45.623)
Mm-hmm.

Danielle (11:55.04)
But yeah, great movie. Love it. Jodie Comer.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (12:01.009)
I didn't know she was in that.

Danielle (12:02.379)
Mm-hmm. You think it's gonna be about Aaron Taylor Johnson like being a warrior, but it really is more about Jodie Comer and What is this kid's name? There's there's their son. His name is Hold, please Alfie Williams. He plays a character named spike and he is awesome. So 28 years later

HAIMing Out With My Friends (12:31.678)
Sweet. I'm making my way through Andor season two and really enjoying that. So I also saw the new Jurassic World movie. It was not bad. There's been a lot of mixed reviews. I had a good time. Is it the best one? Absolutely not. First of all, nothing will ever top Jurassic Park ever, but it was good to see Scar Joe on screen again.

Danielle (12:31.721)
What else?

Danielle (12:37.195)
Let's go.

Who Is Hime (12:37.302)
same.

Danielle (12:42.795)
I heard it was pretty good.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (12:59.474)
Jonathan Bailey is hot in his little slutty, slutty little glasses. And then Mahershala Ali being out of Marvel Purgatory was just really great, really great to see. Really just warmed my heart. So I had a good time.

Danielle (13:14.901)
Would you say Walters glasses are kind of slutty? Is he kind of Jonathan bailing up on this podcast?

Who Is Hime (13:20.35)
I know how I feel about this conversation now.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (13:22.174)
Calling Walter slutty.

Danielle (13:26.251)
Don't care.

Danielle (13:30.667)
I said his glasses. Do think he's the Jonathan Bailey of this podcast?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (13:38.568)
Probably,

Who Is Hime (13:40.62)
Hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (13:41.83)
wildly talented.

Danielle (13:43.625)
Walter's like, I don't know who that is.

haha

Who Is Hime (13:49.804)
I'm gonna get a lot of mileage out of that one.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (13:53.671)
You are for sure. Alright, let's... let's... I'm segwagging. Segwagging?

Danielle (13:56.041)
You only wish.

Danielle (14:00.232)
real quick, Life of Chuck, I saw that last week as well. Last week I got to see 28 years later, Life of Chuck, or not last week, the week before. F1 Life of Chuck and 20 years later in one week and it was like all A-list stubs, premium, love it. Life of Chuck did not hit for me, which I will tell you about off Mike Olivia, because you and I love, we all love Mike Flanigan.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (14:02.288)
Okay. yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (14:16.52)
Shuvskis.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (14:22.311)
Interesting.

Okay. Okay.

Danielle (14:29.546)
Walter, this is a Mike Flanagan's movie with Tom Hiddleston and I had a lot of problems with it. So I'll have to tell you all about that. off Mike. yeah, should we just dive right in to him? I'm time.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (14:29.683)
Mm-hmm.

Who Is Hime (14:30.284)
I

HAIMing Out With My Friends (14:41.192)
later. K. Alright. Let's dive right in. Hime time. Where do want to start?

Danielle (14:48.64)
Time time. Olivia want to give us an overview on right on time.

Who Is Hime (14:49.098)
Let me play transition.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (14:53.414)
Nice. Yeah. So, Hyam is, as we said earlier, is a band of three sisters who grew up in LA, which you can very much tell by their sound, and they even have a song about LA. They're very West Coast for sure. And they grew up in a very musically inclined family.

Who Is Hime (14:55.037)
always.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (15:17.01)
Their parents played music. They even played in a cover band with their parents, which I think is really cute. Their first, very first show that they performed it was at a Jewish deli in LA, which if you've seen the cover art for their third album, Women in Music Part III, it's a picture of them in a Jewish deli. And that was to like kind of be a tribute to their very first performance and just how far they've come.

And so they've released four albums. Their very first album was called Days Are Gone with the lead single. Or this was not the lead single, but it was the single that really was popular called The Wire. It was everywhere. felt like I heard it in stores anytime I was out and about. It was on a lot of commercials and trailers for movies and stuff at the time.

And so the music video actually had one of the members from the Lonely Island in it. It had, is it Jorma? Is that how you say his name? Jorma Decombe. And so, oh, here it is.

Danielle (16:20.534)
Yeah, Dramatocone, I think.

Who Is Hime (16:20.703)
Mm-hmm.

Danielle (16:24.31)
And I got it right here, yeah.

Danielle (16:33.034)
I thought it was him and then I couldn't tell and then the closer I looked I said, yeah, that's him. And he's really funny.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (16:35.678)
Yeah.

Yeah. Yes.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (16:56.948)
so.

Danielle (17:01.184)
Walter have you heard that song before?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (17:01.672)
Yeah.

Who Is Hime (17:03.276)
No

HAIMing Out With My Friends (17:04.691)
That's wild.

Danielle (17:07.434)
I know! I'm like, whoa.

Who Is Hime (17:07.5)
Where would I have heard it?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (17:09.479)
Literally, do you exist in the world? That's fair.

Who Is Hime (17:12.682)
I don't know.

Danielle (17:13.356)
It's...I mean hey man, look, 20...what? 22 million views?

Who Is Hime (17:16.65)
No, this is a real question. Where would I have heard it?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (17:22.111)
at any department store any time between 2014. Yeah. No, like, did you go shopping at all during that time?

Danielle (17:25.644)
Out of Sears? Out of Belks? I'm just kidding. Kmart?

Who Is Hime (17:30.324)
I don't... Yeah, I just don't pay attention to the... Like, I'm like, just know I don't know any of that music, so I don't like... It just goes in one ear and out the other. Like, I don't... Yeah.

Danielle (17:39.732)
unless it's...

Who Is Hime (17:44.266)
I don't know what you... Even that dude, lot of metalcore these days sounds the same.

Danielle (17:45.44)
Metalcore?

Danielle (17:51.04)
Yeah, this came out in 2014 and I almost had the opportunity or this album, right. Yeah. Yeah. Because it was sophomore year, start of sophomore year of college for us. pre Walter before Walter BW didn't know. Yep. He was in Oxford, Mississippi wearing his slutty little glasses. But, but.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (17:51.71)
Hahaha

HAIMing Out With My Friends (17:58.43)
Yeah, this album came out in 2014.

Uh-huh.

Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (18:09.363)
We didn't even know Walter existed.

Who Is Hime (18:11.869)
Walter didn't exist before that.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (18:13.727)
Hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (18:17.663)
Hahaha!

Who Is Hime (18:17.771)
I don't like this bit

Danielle (18:21.233)
I almost had an opportunity to see them in Memphis and I really regret not seeing them.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (18:28.671)
I've seen them twice in concert.

Danielle (18:32.585)
Where?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (18:34.045)
Both in Dallas. It was not for this tour. It was not for their first tour. It was for their Sister Sister Sister tour, which was when they were doing their second album. And then the One More Heim tour, which was for their third album. So both were in Dallas though. So... Yes.

Danielle (18:49.915)
Mm-hmm. Yep. So, okay, go ahead.

Who Is Hime (18:54.182)
I... I'm just gonna say real quick, I had not heard of this band at all until I met you, Olivia.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (19:01.039)
Well, you're welcome, I guess. I don't know.

Danielle (19:04.383)
They're one of those, well yeah, you're gonna listen to them after this.

Who Is Hime (19:05.481)
I still don't listen to him, but I know about him now.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (19:08.051)
Ha

Here, Walter, here's what I think you would appreciate about them. I don't know if you would actually like any of their stuff, but I think you would appreciate that all three of them play the drums and at like different times during their sets, all three of them will have like this like...

Who Is Hime (19:11.528)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (19:27.079)
little drum kit that will be brought out to the stage and they'll play it together and then Danielle Hyam who is the lead singer, she will play several of their songs and she will sing from the drum kit. So they're very heavy on the like, percussions.

Who Is Hime (19:41.899)
That's

Who Is Hime (19:47.725)
they're heavy. Okay. What kind of, do do breakdowns or like...

HAIMing Out With My Friends (19:52.127)
Shut up. You think I know what any of that shit means?

Who Is Hime (19:53.375)
like any big screaming parts.

Danielle (19:55.021)
I know what that means. That was pretty funny. That was pretty funny. Walter, good job. Anyway, anyway, Okay, where were you, Olivia? I will pull up music as you are going through their kind of like brief by it.

Who Is Hime (19:56.907)
You

HAIMing Out With My Friends (19:59.9)
Anyway, anyway, anyway.

Who Is Hime (20:00.467)
I I knew Isaac would get it.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (20:05.119)
no.

So, also I want it to be noted that our boy Ludwig Goransson, who is one of our favorite film composers, he also was a producer for their first album, which I think is crazy. Yeah.

Danielle (20:16.032)
Lude wig. Sorry.

Danielle (20:22.998)
their butts. you imagine just growing up in LA and like, yeah I grew up with Ludwig Granssen. He did some music videos for us, produced some stuff. It's like, Yeah, Ludwig Granssen, Oscar winning composer.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (20:33.209)
Yeah. Yeah. It's cool. It's fine. Whatever.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (20:42.079)
Yeah, has... I mean, we've talked about him already this year when we talked about Sinners. So, anyway, he does. Their second album came out in 2017. This is when I saw them for the first time. I saw them in April of 18, but Lizzo was the opening act on that tour, which is crazy that she was the opener, but this was right before she blew up. She was great. She was a lot of fun, really enjoyed her performance. It was...

Danielle (20:43.318)
crazy.

Danielle (20:48.832)
Yep. He keeps coming up. Yeah.

Danielle (21:04.15)
Was she good?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (21:11.868)
It was so much fun. Yes, Isaac.

Danielle (21:14.524)
Is Lizzo, I don't wanna spend a lot of time on this, but just like, is Lizzo not in Vogue anymore because of like controversy? Or is it more just like she just hasn't had as many hits and she's faded a little bit but not because of controversy?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (21:17.14)
That's fine.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (21:25.509)
say she's... she just released a new album like out of nowhere and so but there are yeah there's I think still some controversy around her so

Danielle (21:40.968)
I, cause I remember reading some of that stuff from, about how she was treating like her crew on tour. And I was like, my gosh, that's crazy. Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (21:47.294)
Uh-huh. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. So it was, it sounded pretty intense for sure. Anyway. but yeah, so their second album, Something to Tell You, that was, I was really depressed when that album came out. So it's a depressive album or depression album for me, but it's still one of my favorite albums. and it's one of the few depression albums that I still like enjoy listening to now, which is not typically the case.

Who Is Hime (21:50.941)
It sounded pretty intense.

Danielle (22:03.11)
damn.

Danielle (22:15.18)
It's very that, yes, the evolution of between Days Are Gone, Days Are Gone is like every single song hits so hard, is so catchy. And then this, the next album, Something To Tell You is, don't, I didn't, I wasn't depressed whenever it came out, but when I was like, I would listen to all of their albums like 12 times, like.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (22:25.951)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (22:38.697)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (22:43.049)
Mm-hmm.

Danielle (22:43.552)
preparing for this episode and it is it's down in a way that's a lot more it's much more introspective much more emotional much more like they're trying different things musically it's pretty cool so

HAIMing Out With My Friends (22:55.474)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (23:02.395)
Yeah, no, you can definitely hear that, that the growth and the desire to change up their sound much more in the second album than in their first album for sure, which we'll talk about more. And then their third album, Women in Music Part III, came out in 2020, which 2020 was actually a pretty good year, at least in my, at least in my

Danielle (23:16.865)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (23:27.039)
world of music, my taste in music. It was a pretty good year for music that year. Probably because I didn't have anything else to do, but listen to music and watch, watch movies, which was okay at the time. So, and this is where I saw them the second time was when they were touring this. This was in, second heim. Yeah. I saw them for the second heim in concert. But they, they toured this in 22. And so I saw them in Dallas again. I caught a drumstick.

Danielle (23:43.179)
Second time.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (23:56.929)
which I brought to show. I caught a drumstick from Esti Hyam. So yeah. And then I also did a shot with Esti. So do you guys want me to tell you that story? Okay, great. Cause I'm going to. This, it was, it actually was. So I went to this concert with one of our friends from college, Haley Hart, shout out Haley, who is a huge Hyam fan.

Who Is Hime (23:58.379)
Hey! Love a good show and tell.

Danielle (23:58.911)
Yaaaay! Big Firth!

Danielle (24:09.428)
Yeah, was it tequila?

Who Is Hime (24:10.324)
Sure.

Danielle (24:14.334)
Let's go!

Danielle (24:20.278)
Hayley Harp!

HAIMing Out With My Friends (24:23.68)
And it didn't occur to me to even think about asking her to be on this episode until about three hours ago. And I was like, Ooh, probably should have asked. It's too late. Yeah. Anyway, Haley loves Haya more than anyone I've ever met. And so she had this whole like plan of like, we're going to get there early and we're going to, we're going to stand on this side of the stage. Cause that's where Estie is. Estie is her favorite. And when they would bring the drum kits out for them to play by their microphones.

Danielle (24:29.216)
I thought about it today and I was like, it's too late. I'm cutting down a tree. Too much going on.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (24:52.64)
Hailey, who is one of the most extroverted people I've ever met, would chant drums. And so I would join her in the chant. So we chant, drums, drums, drums, drums. And at one point, because this happened multiple times, Estie looks at us and goes, are you saying shots? And Hailey goes, no, but I'll buy you a shot if you want. And Estie goes, yeah, buy me a shot. I've never seen anyone take off so fast. Hailey sprints through the very crowded

group of people around the stage and goes to the bar and she's in line forever. They were transitioning into their more of an acoustic set at this point in their performance. And she came back and that was like three songs, three or four songs long. She came back and she has the shots. She has one for me and her and for all three Haim sisters.

only is able to get one to Estee. And so then Estee takes the drink and does a toast to Dallas and is like, Dallas, you're beautiful, we love you, da da da da da. And then we all took the shot at the same time. I am saying I technically did a shot with Estee. Yeah, yeah, I peaked. I really did. Like that was probably one of the coolest experiences of my life.

Danielle (26:10.975)
You peaked.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (26:21.556)
Definitely is one of my favorite concert experiences, if not my favorite concert experience. It was just, it was awesome. And they're so good luck.

Danielle (26:28.936)
I was about to ask. I figured that they're incredible live. I watched a bunch of, I think most of their music videos preparing for this. Walter, I'm gonna share the screen and get to show you the beginning of this music video, Little of Your Love, which is from Something to Tell You. Danielle's walking outside and then walks into a bar.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (26:32.254)
Yeah. Yeah.

Danielle (26:58.989)
and then this happens and it's the best.

Danielle (27:33.068)
shivers. Anyway.

Who Is Hime (27:35.25)
You know I love a good one take.

Danielle (27:37.12)
Yep.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (27:39.634)
A couple of their music videos are one takes.

Danielle (27:43.124)
Is that whole piece? Yeah, I didn't, I guess I didn't pay attention to that with this one. I think there are cuts in Little Up Your Love.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (27:44.806)
That... I don't know if that one is, but

Hold on, I'm gonna find the other music video that I know is, keep talking. Talk amongst yourselves.

Danielle (27:54.813)
it but yeah that one out of all their music videos i watched it like two more times after that i was like this makes me so happy because they're just like there are tons of people doing a choreographed dance and having a great time so so fun so

HAIMing Out With My Friends (28:00.98)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (28:11.378)
It was, want you back. That's a one, one shotter. So.

Danielle (28:14.91)
Okay, think this one I actually did not watch. So, okay, so something to tell you. And then...

HAIMing Out With My Friends (28:22.803)
And then Women Music Part 3, which you can call Wimpy, because that's what it looks like if you just abbreviate it. And then that came out in 2020. And then their most recent album came out a couple of weeks ago called I Quit. And so that's, that is what we're going to go in. Let's go into our review for this one. So.

Danielle (28:27.734)
Wimpy.

Danielle (28:42.91)
Let's, yeah, keep talking, I'm gonna pull up one.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (28:47.58)
Okay. overall, I really enjoyed this album. I, I love all of their albums and they, I think they've like come at really good times in my life where I firmly believe that art in general comes to you at the right time. And I think that their albums have come out at a really important time in my life. And so, so for this one, it feels very

It also feels very introspective. It's very vulnerable. It's the themes throughout the whole album are similar to themes that they talk about, right? Relationships is a big one. but, but also growing up and what that means and, and being more authentic about yourself and your shortcomings and

and loss and grief and so that's what I really appreciate about this album. Isaac, do you have it pulled up and ready to go? Okay.

Danielle (29:48.116)
Yes. So there's one of the, the second song on the album, I think is all over me. And so I'm going to play that one and it's really good. The thing that I really like about this album is that it seems, it feels like a fusion of all of the music that they really like. Like this song, I love listening to it because I was like, this sounds like, this sounds like pure.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (30:11.845)
Yes. Mm-hmm.

Danielle (30:17.995)
like honor, not honorable, like an homage and a respectful way to the Beatles and Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac. And it feels like this is our twist. Like we're so, we're like excellent musicians. We're really, really confident. We've done that. We've been doing this for like 10 plus probably 15 years or whatever. and it's just so confident and so catchy. So it's kind of like a, you know, like a cross section of the pop.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (30:24.766)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (30:32.679)
Yes.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (30:38.727)
Yeah.

Danielle (30:47.633)
and momentum that you get in Days Are Gone with the introspection of Women in Music Part 3 and something to tell you. yeah, this is all over me. Let me see if I can get...

HAIMing Out With My Friends (30:49.472)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Danielle (31:10.805)
There's Will Poulter.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (31:12.16)
Mm-hmm.

Danielle (31:40.895)
I got Jess really into this album because we listened to it all the way up to Vacation. yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (31:46.792)
nice. Isaac, I really appreciate what you said about it feels like a perfect fusion or like homage of the music they grew up listening to. I also feel like it's this perfect blend of kind of like 70s, 80s rock or like 60s, 70s rock and like the 90s and early 2000s pop, which I think a lesser band would have a really hard time making that work. But...

Danielle (32:06.623)
Yes.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (32:13.791)
because they are our seasoned vets at this point, they do such a good job. And I think you can hear some of that stuff more depending on what sound you're looking for. Like the song, the farm sounds very much kind of like a Carole King or a Joni Mitchell type of song, singer songwriter type of song.

Danielle (32:29.548)
Mm-hmm.

Danielle (32:34.036)
Yes. Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (32:35.475)
which I think really showcases their songwriting ability, whereas, you know, Lucky Stars, Million Years, and Now It's Time sound very much like something you'd hear in the late 90s, early 2000s. And so I love kind of the range that they have musically with the different types of songs that they've put out on this album.

Danielle (32:59.936)
Yep. The one that to me sounded like...

Tom Petty was down to be wrong, especially toward the end when you get that like, just lightly distorted guitar, like, so good. and then, but then you also get like, Relationships is very much a, which is what we played, for Walter earlier and is one of my favorite songs from then, cause it's so funny. But then also like,

HAIMing Out With My Friends (33:12.257)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (33:16.435)
Yes.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (33:26.705)
man.

Danielle (33:37.484)
really you can sense all the frustration that they've had trying to like find intimacy and yeah it reminded me of the story from your hinge guy that you shared with me and Walter and I was like this is unfortunately Olivia's life right now.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (33:40.523)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (33:49.985)
Yeah. Yeah.

It is. So, anyway, it's fine.

Danielle (34:01.897)
Yeah, it's fine. We'll make it.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (34:03.169)
when relationships came out. So I have Apple Music and not Spotify. And people always want to hate on Apple Music, but what Apple Music does that Spotify doesn't is I get to see my music stats at the end of every month. I don't have to wait till the end of the year.

Danielle (34:17.244)
I you. It's pretty cool that Apple Music does that actually.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (34:19.803)
Yeah, so it tells me how many times, or like who my top artist is each month, top songs, top album. I listen to Relationships when they put it out as a single back in March 34 times.

I was obsessed. It is a lot of times. So it's 34 heims. Yeah. Come on. What are you doing?

Who Is Hime (34:37.137)
a lot of times.

Danielle (34:39.595)
a lot of hives.

Who Is Hime (34:41.257)
I hate that I'm not thinking of those first.

Who Is Hime (34:49.341)
getting mad about that.

Danielle (34:50.495)
You're just, yeah, what? That also, real quick, going back to movies real quick, Walter, we were like, what's everyone been watching? Me and Olivia talked about what we've been watching. Forgot to mention that Walter watched Friendship on a laptop in a coffee shop, so there's that.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (34:50.665)
Yeah, that's

So.

Who Is Hime (35:11.945)
I did. I did. I still don't know how I feel about it honestly. Like I don't, I still don't.

Danielle (35:17.515)
Do you think the environment in which you watched it may have affected your experience?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (35:18.849)
Hahaha.

Who Is Hime (35:22.341)
No, no, mean, y'all know I'm pretty good at watching a movie anywhere and still like, you know, knowing what it's all about. Y'all remember how I watched Left Behind?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (35:29.813)
Yeah.

Danielle (35:35.979)
You were driving to Mississippi, Texas. That's when you set the iconic picture of

HAIMing Out With My Friends (35:36.374)
No. How did you wash it? yeah!

Who Is Hime (35:39.369)
I was driving to Texas and I was watching it. Yo, oh yeah, me driving. I was wearing, I was just playing on my phone, like on my little like car mount, like on my windshield as I was driving to Texas and I watched the old Left Behind, not the Nicolas Cage, but like the old Left Behind movie and the stream kept like buffering because I was like going through dead zones.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (35:46.656)
Yeah.

Danielle (35:47.942)
Hahaha

Who Is Hime (36:06.417)
and my phone kept overheating because it was like in the windshield and like it would have to like stop and I'm wearing my sunglasses the whole time so like I can just barely see the screen but I had a great conversation about y'all with that movie afterward because I still took it all in yeah

Danielle (36:18.731)
did. We were laughing our butts off.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (36:20.309)
You did. My biggest regret on this podcast is when we were preparing for that episode, I asked Isaac which left behind movie we were watching, because I straight up was going to watch the Nicolas Cage one. And I thought, maybe I should ask first. And I just wish I would have not asked so we could have talked about... That's my biggest regret in all of this. It would have been so freaking funny. I'm so mad. I'm still mad about it.

Danielle (36:35.723)
I still haven't seen it.

Who Is Hime (36:41.295)
you would have to. That would have been such a good reveal at some point when we all realize that you're like, wait.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (36:49.84)
I... anyway.

Danielle (36:52.617)
Olivia peaked when she did shots with Estee Heim and I peaked whenever I was... Me and Walter were like kinda going back and forth describing the Left Behind video game where you like kill people if you can't convert them.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (37:06.143)
Hahaha!

That's still insane.

Who Is Hime (37:10.153)
You still get points, just not as many as if you converted them.

Danielle (37:14.283)
You get points for not as many.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (37:18.302)
wild.

Who Is Hime (37:19.473)
It all evens out in the kingdom.

Danielle (37:19.723)
Okay, I'm bringing it back to Haim. One really funny thing that I think they did, which is also like, I was like, whatever they're doing with their singles feels like they're doing something. And I realized Rolling Stone did an article that shared, they were like recreating famous paparazzi images. So the one for relationships, it's the three of them walking down.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (37:42.229)
Yes. Yes. Yeah.

Danielle (37:49.708)
the street, exact spot where Nicole Kidman was shot after, or not shot, she was photographed leaving her divorce finalization from Tom Cruise. And she's like doing this, like she looks really happy but disheveled and like not put together. And then what was the other one? Everybody's trying to figure me out was, do you remember which one that was, Olivia?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (37:50.099)
iconic.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (37:58.628)
taking a photo of.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (38:07.595)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (38:18.722)
Was it one, was it Kira Knightley or Natalie? no, I don't remember that one. There was one, I think it was with Kira Knightley and someone, I don't remember who the guy was, but she's wearing like, she's wearing low rise jeans and you can just barely see her underwear. And there's like a little bow on her underwear. And that was for whatever reason, what she was doing in 2002 or whatever year that was taken. And they search,

Danielle (38:20.843)
Daniel's leaning against the car.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (38:48.364)
forever to find the exact same pair of underwear that she was wearing so that they could recreate it for it, which is so funny and stupid and amazing. But yeah, I can't remember which one.

Danielle (38:54.345)
Nice, I didn't know that.

Danielle (39:02.089)
Everybody's trying to figure me out as Kate Moss. That's what it is. Yeah, she's like leaning against a... It looks like a... Forerunner?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (39:04.48)
That's what it is, okay.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (39:13.548)
some sort of SUV. Yeah, yeah.

Danielle (39:14.527)
Or Sequoia, yeah, yeah, I think it's a Toyota. I know that body style anywhere. And then Scarlett Johansson and Jared Leto when they were dating, where she's, Danielle's checking her phone. I don't remember if Jared Leto was checking his phone or Scarlett Johansson. Anyway, that was a kind of like random little one-off. But okay, but yeah, I quit. I feel like we talked about that pretty good at length.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (39:24.821)
Okay.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (39:33.846)
I forgot they dated, yeah. Anyway, so, yeah.

Danielle (39:43.98)
Um, do you want to like power rank their albums? It's hard not to be, uh, yes. Yeah. I was just going to say it's hard not to be, have any recency bias because this feels like their most mature and also like some of their best collection of songs. Um, but it's kind of hard not to like, I would put Days Are Gone at the top.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (39:48.564)
Yeah, let's do it. Do you want to start with?

You wanna start with four?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (40:00.587)
Uh-huh.

Yes.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (40:08.81)
You fit at number one?

Danielle (40:10.366)
I'd put it at number one.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (40:11.882)
Interesting. I'm putting it at number four. Yeah.

Danielle (40:14.239)
Really? Okay. Were you ranking... Okay, yeah. We went from four to one, so Women in Music Part Three, where's that?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (40:25.292)
That's three for me. Yeah, where do you have it?

Danielle (40:26.891)
That's three for you. Okay. That would be...

Who for me?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (40:33.556)
Okay, so what's three for you?

Danielle (40:37.151)
Three for me is probably I quit, but I'm trying to not have any recency bias, you know?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (40:42.282)
Okay, that's fair. I have it at two. And I also think part of it might be recency bias, I do think, bless you Walter, I do think that this will be end up being my second favorite album from them.

Who Is Hime (40:51.144)
Thanks.

Danielle (40:51.647)
God bless you, my son.

Danielle (40:56.925)
I think it will be too.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (41:00.32)
So with.

Danielle (41:00.635)
It doesn't feel fair to put it at number one. Remember when we did that we were like, hey what are the best performances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we put Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight as one of the best and now I look back at that and I think, what were we thinking? Recency Bias. Not a very good performance.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (41:03.915)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (41:13.244)
Hahaha

HAIMing Out With My Friends (41:18.612)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Recency bias. I, there's not that many in the MCU, if we're being really honest though. So.

Danielle (41:27.443)
It's like Karen Gillan and Bradley Cooper and Robert Downey Jr. and Chadwick Boseman.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (41:31.447)
Yeah, yeah. So, yeah. Now you're just gonna start listing the performances. But my number one favorite album from them is something to tell you. Again, part of it is, think, just kind of where I was at in my life at that time. it was, it's such... It's funny because like, think Hyam does one of my favorite things that a band or musician can do.

Danielle (41:38.323)
Tim Robinson.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (42:01.538)
that is make music that sounds like upbeat and fun and happy, but lyrically is so sad and depressing. So there were two albums that came out in 2017 that are what I associate as depression albums, Something to Tell You by Hyam and After Laughter by Paramore. Both of those albums are musically, they sound really upbeat and fun, but lyrically super depressing.

And so, and there's like one slow song on both of them. There might be two slow songs on something to tell you, but anyway, but all in all, it's just, to me, I think it just holds special place in my heart. So I think that's why I have it as number one.

Danielle (42:51.935)
Something to tell you, the song is, it kept sticking in my brain each time I would listen through the album. But then I listened to, you know the Valentine video on YouTube where they do something to tell you and then several others. It was that performance that really, them performing it in real time.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (42:55.894)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (43:07.138)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Danielle (43:20.977)
and having it captured in a really effective way, just like in a studio, made me realize the song is really sad. It's like really, really sad. Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (43:27.138)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (43:30.836)
Yeah, it's so sad. It's so, so good though.

Danielle (43:37.803)
Yeah, top 10 songs.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (43:38.692)
Yeah, yeah. Okay. I want you to know that you have 11 listed and so I just added 11 too. I'm not taking off mine. couldn't. Here was my problem. As I was like listening through their albums, because I also was listening to all their albums on repeat as we were preparing for this, as I was preparing for this episode.

Danielle (43:44.969)
Yes, I need to take one off. I'm not sure which one.

Danielle (43:52.48)
You have 11?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (44:02.539)
I kept going, that's a good song. And then I get to the next one, like, this is a good song too. And so it was really hard for me to like narrow it down because I genuinely do overall really love their entire discography. And so trying to pick my like top 10 was kind of difficult. So, but.

Danielle (44:21.285)
Deleted the wire I'll take it off mine. So I have ten

HAIMing Out With My Friends (44:24.131)
Mm. That would probably be the one I cut too. I'll cut that too, so I have ten.

Danielle (44:28.327)
It's so good, think forever would be the one that I would keep from Days Are Gone, just because, and well, mean falling's on there too. But I remember hearing falling for the first time and just thinking, I've just never heard, I've never heard a song like this. Where you get.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (44:37.899)
Yeah, falling is good too.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (44:45.344)
Yeah!

Danielle (44:49.791)
I mean, all good music is is loud and soft. Unless it's Bill Murray, then it's all loud and it's good. So, got Walter in. Too true. Yeah, we're still here.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (44:53.603)
Mm-hmm.

Who Is Hime (44:56.775)
True.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (44:57.699)
Hahaha

Who Is Hime (45:01.423)
Are we still here? okay.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (45:03.075)
Welcome.

Danielle (45:08.639)
But yeah, forever and like falling was like, falling, falling, falling, like, you know, the percussive vocals, soft, loud, soft, loud. And then the thing that overall in Days Are Gone that sticks out to me is like, whatever they're doing with the bass and bass line throughout the whole album, every single song is just so powerful.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (45:12.588)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (45:33.827)
Mm-hmm.

Danielle (45:38.828)
And they kind of, they, yes, yeah. And they tune it back in their other albums moving forward, but it's, I mean, it's still there, but it's like, it's such a driving, like, like rock forward focus in that first album. And Forever is moving so fast. It's like so many, so many words per, you know, minute or second or whatever. But I just remember thinking like, oh, this is I've never.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (45:39.181)
And that's Estee. Estee is the bassist.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (45:47.843)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (45:51.521)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (46:03.843)
Mm-hmm.

Danielle (46:08.907)
But yeah, so okay top tens anyway, I went on a little digression

HAIMing Out With My Friends (46:11.331)
Okay. No, you're good. You're great. All right. Dude, this is not, yeah, this is not in order for me. This is just 10 of my favorite songs of theirs. So, you wanna start?

Danielle (46:16.415)
I didn't put him like in order.

Danielle (46:26.037)
relationships which which ones have we not talked about yet hallelujah is hallelujah and summer girl are both bonus tracks from women in music part three and hallelujah i'm pretty sure is about the three of them as sisters right okay

HAIMing Out With My Friends (46:34.529)
Yeah, we haven't talked about this. Uh-huh.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (46:43.363)
They are, yeah. That one is about, they wrote it about their relationships and their like, sisterhood. They all each have a verse in that one and Alana mentions one of her childhood friends who had died when they were, I think, 13 or 14. But then she talks about how her sisters are the ones who helped her through that, like, grief.

And so, Halloween is a really just sweet song.

Danielle (47:16.969)
I pulled it up. Can I play it for us? Okay. This and while I'm pulling it up, I told, I showed it to Jess and she loves it. This one is also very Fleetwood Mac coded, I feel like, but she, when I told her that it was about the sisters and the lyrics are really, the lyrics, everything about it is so beautiful. I had got Jess really into this one. So.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (47:18.744)
Yeah.

Please.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (47:30.657)
Mm-hmm

Danielle (48:34.187)
Yeah, copyright, it's probably 30 seconds, but just in case it's not, it's hard to...

Who Is Hime (48:38.971)
you could have told me that was a brandy carlisle song i would have been like nice

Danielle (48:42.761)
They're really good, man. They are awesome. They're not ripping anyone off. They're doing everything in their own style. They're so good. No, no, no, no, no. Sorry, that was my enthusiasm. That wasn't me saying... Right, right, right, right, yeah. And I think maybe that's why they had this one as a bonus track, but this is definitely, it's definitely one of the most special songs.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (48:42.98)
Yeah.

Who Is Hime (48:51.207)
Sorry, I didn't mean that I'm like, the ripping off. I'm just like that song it was Remin like that's that felt different than the other Heim songs y'all showed me

HAIMing Out With My Friends (48:55.748)
Yuck.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (49:00.48)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Danielle (49:11.349)
for me because it makes me think about my girls. So my Women in Music part three, Jess, Sophie and Louisa. So yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (49:13.796)
Mm-hmm.

Danielle (49:23.679)
We have a lot of the same ones.

haha

Danielle (49:41.631)
This is a really good, have y'all ever listened to Song Exploder, the podcast?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (49:46.71)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Do they have this?

Danielle (49:48.502)
This guy, yes, they did Summer Girl around the time it came out and it was really cool because apparently this is about, I think maybe the saxophonist. Definitely go listen to it, it's really good because they break down the saxophone line is the thing that just makes this song so, so amazing.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (49:52.235)
Okay.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (50:06.468)
Mm-hmm.

Yes. Yeah.

Danielle (50:11.669)
But I think it was a saxophonist, one of their friends maybe was dating one of them and got sick and then he ended up being okay. But he's on it and they just, they talk about how they put the song together and it's really awesome. And also I love in Summer Girl, they get, this was another one that Paul Thompson directed and she goes and she's like working at the New Beverly Cinema for a little bit which is a huge, it's a.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (50:38.851)
Yeah.

Danielle (50:40.073)
Quentin, I think it's owned now by Quentin Tarantino. Probably wasn't then, but she's like working there for a little bit. So it's a big staple of cinema in Los Angeles. So yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (50:43.299)
Okay.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (50:52.868)
Yeah, No, Summer Girls are fun. It's just, it's just a, it's an easy breezy song that I really love. It's, so, so good. Um, yeah. Let's see. We both have, go ahead.

Danielle (51:04.587)
I was ask you about I know alone because that's one that I don't know as well but

HAIMing Out With My Friends (51:09.515)
yeah, that's-

I... yeah. So, so I think if I remember correctly, Danielle was the one who wrote the lyrics to that song. They write usually their songs together, but sometimes one of them will write, like, write out most of the song and then they'll collaborate for the rest of it. And I think Danielle wrote most of that because she was also really depressed during that time when she was writing it. And so it is very much a...

a song about depression and being alone and she talks about being famous more so in it of like

You know, Friday, I'm, I don't remember what the rest of the, like what the line exactly is, which she's talking about, like, you know, I'm, really down and then they, on Sunday, they expect me to shine is, is the line. And, she was talking about just like, you know, having to like go out and, and be a certain way because they're in the spotlight. And, obviously I don't relate to that because I'm not famous. This podcast has not taken off yet. And, so until it does, I won't relate to it, but once.

Danielle (52:19.179)
It's coming, baby.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (52:20.166)
It's what's coming for us. I believe it but you know, understand like having to kind of fake it and I Know Alone was what album was that on? Was on I think it was on something to tell you maybe it was on wimpy Let me look. Let me look. I should know this. I'm terrible fan It was on on women in music part three, so I I mean I was not

Danielle (52:43.157)
Stupid, stupid, Okay.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (52:50.212)
2020 was a hard year, obviously, for lots of reasons, but I just really relate to those lyrics, I think, and I know alone. So that's why I included it, because it just is meaningful to me.

Danielle (53:05.375)
I know Alone has a crazy, like, kinda synth.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (53:11.36)
Yeah. That... Yeah.

Danielle (53:12.999)
undercurrent and then like kind of breathy voice filter.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (53:19.192)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

And there's also a- it's not super bass heavy, but you can really hear the bass.

Danielle (53:45.609)
Man, I forgot about this one.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (53:47.349)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (53:57.83)
Yeah, they filmed that in 2020 at one of their houses. I think they all just ended up kind of just staying together during the pandemic. And so they were, that's, that's, they just do dances. They do what sisters do and they create dances to songs. And so that was just something they did for this one as well. So.

Danielle (54:17.547)
Now I'm in it. That might be my number one song of theirs, but on days where I'm not doing my best, that's a repeat song for me. I put it on repeat, I was curious if it was the same for you.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (54:26.489)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (54:34.541)
yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (54:39.489)
Yes, no, I love Now I'm In It. It is, again, it's one of those songs that like, musically it sounds kind of fun and upbeat, but lyrically it's like, ooh, they are not doing okay. And so that's one of the reasons why I appreciate it so much is because it's...

As someone who is a very high functioning depressed person, I really just vibe with that type of song or album where it's like sounds good and upbeat but

Danielle (55:23.947)
I also love the music video. There's like gaps, like the chorus is longer than it is on the song, but it was a different experience watching the music video. Also a PTA music video.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (55:26.498)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (55:31.332)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (55:36.452)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (55:52.966)
Also, the line of like, damn, I'm in it and I've been trying to find my way back for a minute. man, that's so true because I don't know about you guys, but whenever I'm really going through it, sometimes I don't realize I'm feeling that way until I've been in it for a little while. And I'm like, I've been feeling this way for like weeks. Why am I just now putting it together? Because I've been avoiding it and I tend to have an avoidant tendency. And so that's...

Danielle (55:53.759)
I love it. it's so good.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (56:21.551)
That's what happens. And then so I really just, again, vibe with the line, damn, I'm in it.

Danielle (56:28.811)
Yup, yup. It's like, when I, there was a point where it has a really, really great guitar, kinda like through line. And I think that's what hooked me on it. And then when I was listening, it was like on my 7th or 8th or 9th repeat listen, I realized, oh, this is about depression. And then I watched the music video and I was like, yup, this is about depression. So, oh.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (56:31.247)
So, yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (56:43.429)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (56:50.661)
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh. Yup, yup, that's what it's about. Okay, Isaac, you have gasoline in some- or in Los Angeles, which I don't have in my top, but- and so gasoline is from Women in Music, and then Los Angeles is from-

Danielle (57:08.789)
And they did, they did another version. They have a version of just them and then a version of gasoline with Taylor Swift, right?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (57:14.187)
Mm-hmm. Right, yeah. Yeah, and both, so both those songs are from Women in Music, part three. Man, maybe I should, yeah.

Danielle (57:21.333)
Can I ask you real quick, what do you think about No Body No Crime?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (57:27.781)
I think it's this it is this generation's Goodbye Earl, but just sadder, slower. So.

Danielle (57:35.148)
Uh, okay, okay. There's a, so there's a place for it in the culture. I don't like, I don't dislike it, but I skip it like every time it comes on. It's just, it's one of those things probably because like, was a good, rule? That was never, yeah, yeah. I wasn't, yeah, I wasn't, wasn't the chicks fan, so.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (57:44.943)
Mm-hmm. Sure. Here-

HAIMing Out With My Friends (57:52.496)
Goodbye Earl by the Chicks, formerly known as Dixie Chicks. Yeah, yeah, no, that makes sense. Our moms are different in the styles in which they raised us. And hey, we both turned out as pretty good people, I think. Anyway. But we love movies and that's probably because we're so depressed.

Danielle (58:04.768)
So true.

Danielle (58:10.217)
Yep. Massive depressives, but you know, otherwise doing well.

Danielle (58:19.271)
And then movies and women and music.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (58:21.702)
But yeah, no, here's my thing about nobody, nobody no crime is they're like barely in it. And so it doesn't it's I mean, it's kind of like Lana Del Rey being on snow on the beach is like there's just it's almost like they're backup vocals as opposed to like actually having a feature. Whereas when they released the version of gasoline with Taylor Swift, it felt more like an actual feature. So do you have a preference?

Danielle (58:31.883)
Yeah.

Danielle (58:40.031)
Yeah.

Danielle (58:48.147)
Right. And Taylor Swift, well, that's what I was going to say is like on, on gasoline with Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift sounds like she is doing something different, which I really like. Like it feels like she's like not like perfectly, you know, synchronizing her vocals. feels like she's doing something loose and like expressive and that's what I really like about that. So

HAIMing Out With My Friends (58:52.784)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (58:59.756)
Yah! Yah!

HAIMing Out With My Friends (59:10.412)
Yeah, yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. So,

Danielle (59:16.361)
Also, love the, I love in gasoline the, we're watching the sunrise from the kitchen counter when you're laying between my legs, it doesn't matter. There's like little, like the way that they kind of express this is how, you know, I, the way that they express intimacy is really,

HAIMing Out With My Friends (59:24.293)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (59:28.643)
Uh-huh.

Danielle (59:40.619)
It always feels fresh and kind of like, it's like, you know, have moments of where you relate to it or, know, so.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (59:44.455)
Right, yeah, I think they do a really good job... Yeah, I think they do a really good job of expressing intimacy, like sexual intimacy specifically, in a really unique way. And also, in the same song, they have the line, you need it ass, well what's wrong with that? And I think that's really funny that it's just like very straightforward, but then also they have these like really poetic ways of describing intimacy. All in the same song.

Danielle (01:00:12.106)
Mm-hmm.

Yeah. And then in all, all over me, take off your clothes, unlock your door. Cause when you, when I come over, you're going to get some like it's really, it's funny. So anyway, okay. We're almost at an hour. So Alana Heim, you want to jump to, I think we've, we've mentioned PTA. Do you want to skip music videos? I feel like we've kind of incorporate them quite a bit. All of the music videos are really good. So.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:00:15.929)
So.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:00:19.855)
Right.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:00:24.642)
huh. Yeah. It's, yeah.

Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:00:33.176)
Yeah, let's go.

Yeah, let's do, let's skip music videos. So, yeah, so Alana Hayim, yes. But Alana has had a breakout role in PTA's Licorice Pizza, which came out a few years ago. So good in it. They're all in it. In fact, their parents are also in it too, which is really funny because the reason they...

Danielle (01:00:50.443)
She is so good and so funny.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:01:00.678)
have this sort of connection with Paul Thomas Anderson is, is, and it was after the fact, after they had like met him, they realized their mom was his like art teacher growing up or music teacher growing up. Yeah. And so, and so people are, joking and kind of theorizing that licorice pizza is actually about like Paul Thomas Anderson's crush on their mom growing up.

Danielle (01:01:14.635)
that's cool.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:01:27.8)
which I don't know if that was ever confirmed or true or anything, but that's really funny to think about. So, but she's also going to be in a film coming, two films coming out this year.

Danielle (01:01:40.235)
I think the drama might be coming out this year as well.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:01:41.638)
One battle after another. She's got three movies coming out this year? Wow. Okay. She's coming for that Oscar nom. So anyway, but yeah, so... Go ahead.

Danielle (01:01:47.787)
break out.

Danielle (01:01:52.619)
Let's go. I was also gonna say, real quick, on PTA, or A, we should do Licorice Pizza Watch Along, maybe. Because I think actually Walter would like it. We say that. Walter's like, can we end this episode?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:02:06.15)
Mmm. Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:02:13.668)
I don't know.

Who Is Hime (01:02:14.296)
Y'all say that about a lot of movies.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:02:16.48)
I think it could go either way.

Danielle (01:02:19.538)
I think you gotta be in the right headspace. I.e. a lot of ambient noise, coffee shop, grinders going.

Who Is Hime (01:02:27.236)
Yeah I The true to watch cinema though speeding along the highway at any miles an hour with your sunglasses on your phone and your phone overheating in the windshield

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:02:28.897)
Hahaha

Danielle (01:02:36.778)
As David Lynch intended.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:02:37.453)
Hahaha

You

Danielle (01:02:43.722)
man. the thing I was going to say real quick about, I'm pretty amazed. guess Danielle just really doesn't. Alana has like made the jump to movies. Danielle is really like a really. Enigmatic and like, I like can't stop looking at her in every single one of the music videos. She knows how to carry herself and especially PTA is like really interested in the way that she.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:02:55.376)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:03:03.928)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yes.

Danielle (01:03:11.924)
can command a camera and just like move through these videos that they've done together. So I'm wondering if she's going to at some point. I don't know that much behind it, but I was just gonna put it out there, so.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:03:13.254)
Mm-hmm.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:03:19.642)
Mm-hmm.

Yeah. Yeah, no, it would be interesting if she takes the leap to movies in some way. Estie has in a different way. So she, instead of acting, has been working as a composer and music consultant. And so some of the bigger names she's done is she was working as a music consultant on season three of The White Lotus. She also

Danielle (01:03:49.712)
really?

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:03:51.208)
Mm-hmm. Yeah, she was a music consultant for Nobody Wants This, which is a Linklater film. And then she also did the score for the short series or the miniseries Made, which starred Margaret Qualley on Netflix. And the movie Cha-Cha Real Smooth, which I really loved. Isaac, did you watch that? Okay. Yeah. Yeah.

Danielle (01:04:07.947)
Mm-hmm.

Danielle (01:04:13.771)
I liked it, yeah. I thought it was like, kinda Cooper Rafe's excuse to cast Dakota Johnson and then kiss her, but it was pretty good other than that.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:04:20.519)
Sure. Sure. I mean, yeah, if you have that power to cast whoever you want, why not, you know?

Danielle (01:04:27.337)
You shouldn't do it because that's the right thing to do.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:04:31.271)
So anyway, but so she's moved into to film and television in a different way. But I would be curious to see if Danielle, Danielle's also, think she's been producing album, like she produced, helped produce this album that they just put out. And so I wonder if she's going to move into a more of a music production avenue or go that down that avenue. So.

Who's to say? But I'm excited to see Alana in these movies coming out this year. We all, I say we all, Isaac and I really loved her performance in Licorice Pizza. I think I need to do a rewatch of that, because I don't think I've watched it since it was in the theater. Yeah.

Danielle (01:05:16.063)
Yeah, I love that movie, but I've only seen it once. And then I just remembered laughing so, so hard at her performance, how good it was.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:05:23.385)
Yeah, no, it was really good and she was great in it. Cooper Hoffman was was good in it. So anyway, all in all, love, love Haim. That's our Haim.

Danielle (01:05:33.995)
That's Heim. And there is a legitimate cinema overlap. One battle after another. think Alana Heim's part is supporting. mean, it may be just several scenes or a couple scenes or something like that. I bet she will be one of the revolutionaries as a supporting character. But that and Eddington are my two...

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:05:40.849)
That's right.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:05:50.374)
Yeah.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:05:54.791)
Probably. Mm-hmm.

Danielle (01:06:02.739)
most anticipated movies for the remainder of the year. So I'm really, really excited. And that movie in one battle after another is going to be in IMAX. Isn't that sick? Like he's never had a movie in IMAX. Yeah. So I'm pumped.

HAIMing Out With My Friends (01:06:07.281)
Yeah.
