Ovi Muniz:
Alright, let’s talk about it—Cody Rhodes, The Rock, and the offer that shook the WWE Universe.
Now, if it were me, I would’ve taken the deal. No hesitation. If you understood my previous episodes about “Being my champion”, you would understand my perspective. A guaranteed corprorate championship sounds like a no-brainer. But here’s the thing—why does everyone feel the need to have an opinion on someone else’s decision? Why is it so hard to respect that Cody had his own reasons for saying no?
Let’s break this down. Rock didn’t offer this opportunity to just anyone—he offered it to Cody Rhodes. Not to The Miz, not to Carmelo Hayes, not to Seth Rollins, not to LA Knight. Why? Because Cody has been on a journey, building his story since the moment he walked away from WWE years ago, betting on himself in the indies, co-founding AEW, and returning to finish what his family started.
Now, let’s compare this to other big decisions in wrestling history:
• Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 30 – WWE originally wanted Batista to be the face of the main event, but the fans and Bryan’s own determination changed that. He refused to take a backseat, and it paid off.
• Stone Cold Steve Austin refusing to turn heel in 2002 – Vince McMahon wanted Austin to change his character, but Austin knew it wouldn’t work. He stood his ground, and his legacy remained intact.
• Bret Hart refusing to lose in Montreal – We all know how that ended. Right or wrong, Bret stood by his morals, and it changed wrestling forever.
Not all money is good money. Not all opportunities are the right ones. Cody understood that. He didn’t want to be handed anything. He didn’t want his moment to be something orchestrated by The Rock. He wanted to earn it.
And look at the backlash—The Miz and Carmelo Hayes both said they would have taken the offer. And hey, no shame in that. Miz has always been a guy who takes what he can get. Carmelo is still proving himself. But there’s a reason why The Rock didn’t offer it to them. It’s because this moment is bigger than just a championship—it’s about legacy.
So what’s the takeaway? Respect the decision. You don’t have to agree with it, but understand that Cody’s playing a different game. He’s not looking for the easy road. He’s looking to cement his name in the history books his way.
