James Dooley Podcast

James Dooley and Kasra Dash explain how solar panel companies can generate consistent, exclusive inbound leads by improving visibility on Google because strong reviews and optimised service pages increase search intent traffic. They outline how PPC and Facebook ads capture bottom of the funnel demand because targeting decision ready users drives enquiries. They show how organic social media and AI agents expand reach because constant posting trains platform algorithms. They compare tradespeople platforms with exclusive lead generation because shared leads reduce conversion quality. They highlight why inbound leads outperform outbound and why real time leads convert fastest because immediate responses match peak buyer intent.

James Dooley: If you're a solar panel company and you're looking for a consistent flow of inquiries built for your business that's not shared, this video is for you. Today we're breaking down all the different strategies that are working for solar panel companies and what you should avoid. I'm joined with Kasra Dash. Take it away.

Kasra Dash: So step number one, what I'd be looking to do to grow is a Google Business Profile. If you already have one, I'd be reaching out to all my existing clients to get as many five star reviews as possible. It's a great way for a Google Business Profile to generate more leads. There's also getting citations and doing Google Business Profile posts and uploading photos. That is definitely step one to generate more local leads.

James Dooley: Step number two, this is to bolster your Google Business Profile. I would create dedicated service pages for each of your individual services as SEO optimised pages on your website. When you start doing that, it helps your SEO pages rank and also increases the chance of your Google Business Profile showing for those keywords. So you're indirectly getting more phone calls.

Kasra Dash: Yeah, for sure. And if you're looking for more local leads, another option is PPC lead generation. That's pay per click within Google or Bing where you're targeting bottom of the funnel keywords to generate more inquiries. The difficult part is you need a good pay per click agency because there is click fraud and you need a strong negative keyword list so you don't get job applications and irrelevant clicks. PPC can work well but in the wrong hands you can waste a lot of money, but it is another way to generate local leads.

James Dooley: And then after that you've got meta ads like Facebook and Instagram. The next time someone goes on Facebook they might be scrolling and see your ad. There are different ways to set up Facebook ads. Option A is lead forms which are really easy. They never leave the Facebook platform. The issue is the quality might not be great, but you can add more questions to improve the quality. Then you've got conversion ads where the user is sent to your website to fill in your contact form. So there are a few options you can test.

Kasra Dash: Another way to grow more local leads is organic social media. Posting regularly on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram. There are lots of different platforms. Reddit is big nowadays and Quora is big if people have questions and you can answer them. Organic social media is another great way to generate more local leads.

James Dooley: With organic social media, it's a volume game. You want to upload consistently, whether it's a daily schedule or a weekly schedule. You might say, I want to upload five videos a week. And you should stick to that, especially with algorithms like YouTube and Twitter.

Kasra Dash: For sure. What's your thoughts on using AI agents? They could team up with someone and use something like N8N to automate and schedule posts on social media. Would you leverage artificial intelligence to generate more leads? Would you team up with an AI consultant to set that up?

James Dooley: You can definitely go down that route. You can set up AI agents to crop videos and autopublish to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and more. But another thing I would be focusing on is AI search. A lot of people are slowly starting to search on engines like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Groq. If your brand isn't showing up in any of those, you're going to have issues generating leads. That's something I would focus on as a company.

Kasra Dash: And also if you're looking for more business leads in the local area, you can team up with trades people websites. Checkatrade, Bark, Builder Builder, TrustATrader, Rated People. These platforms can generate more local leads. You should track your KPIs to see return on investment. Track cost per lead, cost per acquisition and overall ROI. Trades people websites can work very well. And check the links in the description because we compare Checkatrade with FatRank, Bark with FatRank, Rated People with FatRank, Builder Builder with FatRank. Now I've mentioned FatRank a few times. James, what's your thoughts on lead generation companies versus trades people companies?

James Dooley: With lead generation companies, you need to do your due diligence. Make certain that if you're in a specific niche, the lead generation company has actually generated leads in that industry before. I’d have a strategy call and say, this is my budget, this is how many leads I ideally want, to make certain your KPIs align. You also want to check what type of leads they send. Are they exclusive or shared? Bark and Checkatrade often send shared leads and that becomes a race to the bottom. So that's something to ask before partnering up.

Kasra Dash: For sure. If anyone is interested in generating more local leads, head over to FatRank.com where we have a commission based lead generation service. You only pay a finders fee on converted jobs. You pay nothing per lead. You pay nothing until you get paid, until you convert the job on a pay per sale basis and complete the job. That's when you pay FatRank.com. Head over to FatRank.com to see whether you qualify. But I want to expand further. What are your thoughts on inbound lead generation versus outbound lead generation?

James Dooley: I always prefer inbound. The conversion rate is much higher. The last stat I saw was that 16.1 percent of inbound leads convert into paying customers compared to 1.4 percent for outbound leads.

Kasra Dash: That's like 10 to 12 times more conversion. It's crazy how much more effective inbound is. Outbound needs a lot of volume whether it's cold calling, cold email or LinkedIn. And people underestimate the cost because even “free leads” still cost money in email sending and sales team time. So inbound is so much better. But what about when people ask whether real time leads matter? Is it important that as soon as they inquire it comes through straight away?

James Dooley: Yeah it's important. The last stat we saw internally was that real time leads convert 63 percent higher. When we looked at KPIs, responding within one minute had a massive impact. We used to think five minutes was good. Responding in under a minute improved conversions. If an inquiry comes in, can you ring them or email them back straight away to get more information?

Kasra Dash: I'm not saying every company needs to respond in under a minute. There are things we look at when partnering with businesses. Some companies fall short because they might be on holiday and no one picks up the leads. These small details matter. The best thing for anyone looking to scale and get a consistent flow of high quality leads is fill out the form at FatRank. The team will tell you if you're a fit or not and give feedback on next steps.

James Dooley: So I hope you like all the different strategies we've gone through to generate more solar panel leads. Head over to FatRank.com to see whether we're able to generate you more solar panel leads. There are lots of types of solar leads like warehouse solar panel leads, commercial solar panel leads or domestic household leads. Head over to FatRank.com, fill in the form and hopefully we can start generating you more solar leads.
