What is Bootstrapper's Paradise?

Quick, actionable episodes for aspiring SaaS founders who want to build on their own terms. No fluff, no theory, just real strategies from a serial bootstrapper who's done it multiple times.

Speaker 1:

I want to talk to you about how to think about selecting the technologies for your respective SaaS build. So this is something that myself as a, I guess, a degreed engineer and I only say that to basically give you the impression that the education that I have has instilled certain, I don't know if they're principles or maybe they're just restrictions in terms of how I think about these things. But for me, I have a tendency to borderline obsess over like the tools or the technology I'm using or whatever. And what I want to tell you in this episode is for the most part, not universally, but for the most part it doesn't really matter. And what I'm going to recommend is where I landed myself which is to use what's most familiar for you and increasingly so these days it's becoming relatively agnostic because the AI essentially has the capability to use whatever technology you want.

Speaker 1:

To me, the connecting element is you understanding what it is about that technology that you need in order to be comfortable using it effectively and understanding how it works, which I still think is a very important part of the process. So as you're leveraging AI for your build, work with it to help you better understand how you might structure your project and or what the best technologies are to use for your build. I do that a lot. And I get a lot of helpful information that checks a couple of boxes for me. Number one, it gives me the confidence and the reassurance that I am using technologies that are appropriate for what it is that I'm building.

Speaker 1:

And I'm going to refer back to the SaaS product that I'm building in public on my YouTube channel as an example here because it is going to deal with some numbers. It's going to do some crunching. It's going to have access to a number of different APIs. Not too terribly difficult from anything that I build these days, but point is technology that I want to use for that is probably Python. And Python may be overkill in terms of the back end and having an appropriate version of that and being able to do heavy number crunching or whatever consistently, which Python has a number of libraries, which are really good for that.

Speaker 1:

But I take more of a my perspective is on it is more like, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it, if you know what I mean. Because previously, when I was doing coding manually before, you know, AI exploded, I was using basically full JavaScript stack stuff like MEAN and MERN. And it was all like Mongo, Express, Angular, React, Node, whatever. And it's just not necessarily the best fit for building products like these or stuff that's like fintech based products because JavaScript doesn't necessarily handle numbers all that well. But you can eliminate almost all of this anxiety in choosing these tools and picking out your stack by working with Claw dot ai in order to help you design your project.

Speaker 1:

Even better than that is AI is going to have probably the capability beyond that of a competent developer to be able to leverage whatever technology you want and walk you through process of wiring everything up. So I want you to do a couple things. If you're not sure, like, which technology to use or if you're using the ideal ones or you're stuck at this past this part of the process in your project, work with AI to help you through it, right, to help you better understand the differences between the different technologies, like what you might recommend when and where and what probably works for the ideal stack for what it is that you're building. You no longer really need to just use what you're comfortable with because AI has got the capability to pretty much use anything these days. That adds a a level of versatility and flexibility that we didn't really have before because we needed to kind of like master the technology or use it extensively in order to feel most comfortable with it.

Speaker 1:

Those days are largely gone, and AI has solved that problem for us. So it can help us not just design but pick out what it is that we want to use. It can help us with building it, obviously, as well, too. The key, though, to me along the way is I highly recommend you learn as much as you can while you're doing it, too. So if you see something that you don't know or understand or you're learning it for the first time or whatever, whether you're in like cursors ask mode or you're using cloud dot ai, you know, web interface with Opus or something like that, ask questions along the way, right?

Speaker 1:

Get to learn these differences. Educate yourself as well. Use the AI to not just do it for you, but to train you and help you understand these things. Because, you know, as you're looking for work or working on these projects or whatever it is you're doing, you're gonna wanna add these skills along the way. Right?

Speaker 1:

We're not just doing the vibe coding thing. We're doing context engineering. We are leveraging traditional and typical, like, professional engineering as part of what it is that we're doing. But we're leaning on AI extensively to do a lot of the heavy lifting and the grunt work, Right? That, I think, is the best combination of how to leverage these technologies today to set yourself up as best as possible for succeeding in building your SaaS, whether that's a side hustle or becoming a primary thing, and or in your career as well too if you're also working in tech.

Speaker 1:

So that's what I've got for you today. Thanks for tuning in, and listen. I appreciate it.
