The Mayor of York and North Yorkshire has met with rail industry leaders to discuss the opportunities on offer from both parties to drive connectivity around the region.
At a meeting in York, Mayor David Skaith told directors of the East Coast Main Line operators – as well as major infrastructure projects – that it is essential that communities are connected with opportunities around the region and beyond by rail.
Rail leaders such as Network Rail, Northern, CrossCountry, TransPennine Express were all present, with the mayor saying that an integrated rail system is essential.

Nottingham City Council has announced that it is set to appoint its new Chief Executive next week.
Current Corporate Director for Growth and City Development Sajeeda Rose has been recommended for the role, having led successfully on planning, transport, economic development, property, major regeneration, and housing. Alongside this experience, Rose also played a key role in the formation of the East Midlands Combined County Authority.
This news comes after previous Chief Executive, Mel Barrett, departed in May to take up the Chief Executive role at Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing.

The government has set out how it plans to use artificial intelligence to support its mission for change and economic growth, as well as improving public services.
This comes as the Science, Innovation and Technology Secretary has appointed Matt Clifford, Chair of the Advanced Research and Invention Agency, to lead research into how this can be done. As part of this work, Clifford will give the government a new AI Opportunities Action Plan, which will explore the ways that AI use can be accelerated to improve people’s lives.
The plan will look into how the UK’s AI sector can compete on a global scale, as well as what talent, infrastructure and data access will be required for it to be adopted further across the public sector.
