This Is Why We Can't Have A Podcast!

Happy Monday after the 4th! Weโ€™re still sipping Kiss on the Lips, still recovering from the weekend, and somehow going from patriotic sewing plans to Netflix recommendations, Yellowstone spin-offs, Little House on the Prairie reboot concerns, and the emotional damage of watching Toy Story across three generations.
Then things take a darker turn as we fall into true crime and conspiracy rabbit holes, including the Springfield Three, old-school Unsolved Mysteries, Circleville letters, Charles Morgan, and why some cases still haunt us decades later.
There are crackers, brain freezes, serial killer statistics, Ohio questions, and one very awkward reminder that we really do say things out loud and then hope nobody hears them.

And we're back. And we are back. I'm eating a cracker. And I am still drinking. Three days later. We've re-upped on the kiss on the lips. And happy Monday. Happy Monday. Happy Monday. I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend celebrating the 250th. Yeah, 20 and 50th, man. I wish I could. Joe America. I'm making red, white, and blue stuff for the rest of the year. Are you? Quilt stuff and like purses and to sell women.

Like well, I'm making like s gifty type stuff because I know it's something that people will use over and over again. So you know, one of my favorite series is The Men Who Built America and the Cars That Built America, the Frontiersmen that Built America. So if you ever like are interested in history but didn't learn a lot in high school like I did,

it's a great way to kind of like summarize because I it is and I enjoy it. Like I enjoy that kind of stuff. Yeah, for sure. It's interesting to see as an adult as an adult, which let me just tell you, I started a series last week and I literally finished it in one day. One day. What? It's called I Will Find You. I saw that. It's on Netflix. So it's worth it, huh? Jen, one day.

Day. How many episodes? Nine. Whoa. I stayed up till two in the morning watching that. Okay. You know it's good. If I know it's good. Because you don't dedicate yourself to anything like that. No. Literally, it was so good. And the thing about it is, okay, did you ever watch the one that me and Heather told you about that was like her or something like that? her all her fault? Where the girl got the girl's son got kidnapped. I started it, I think, and I didn't finish it.

So it kind of like suspense like that. Like it keeps you on your toes, and every end of the episode, you're like, Well, I can't stop now. Yeah, I know. I know. Cause we were because me and Justin got on Dutton Ranch. Okay, I'm gonna tell you I love this. Yeah, Dutton Ranch is good. You and Justin would both like this one. It's called I Will Find You, and it's on Netflix, and it is so freaking.

JEN (02:09.378)
Good. Well, I'll tell you, Dutton Ranch really impressed me. I mean, it was good and we saw signs for that all over Scotland. So it's so funny. And I really like Dutton Ranch. I mean, I didn't the only one I've not really been a fan in is the one, the Marshall, U.S. Marshall one that Casey spinned off on. because Casey's one of my favorite characters in Yellowstone. So I really hate that, but it it it is what it is. But I literally like it and it's bad.

I cannot believe I binged that like I did. It was so good, I could not stop. I have You know how I binged pole dark all while we're on the trip. I'm still I've got a couple of episodes left, like two, probably. So I'm gonna watch this. I am telling you, like you need to start it. You would really because from the beginning, you're like Me and Justin needed another show. No, you should it's nine episodes. So it's an easy, and it's so when I tell you, my eyes were like this the whole time. I never got bored, never

Like touched my phone anytime I was watching an episode. And you know that's because my ADHD at night does not allow that. I could not stop watching it. It was so good. Definitely gonna watch it. I will find it. And plus it's on my list. It's on my it's in my list. Well, I need you to watch it this week so we can talk about it on 'cause I think I it was like coming soon, and so I'm like, add to coming soon or like notify me or whatever. Which? Netflix. Not that you care about You better care. Me, where your people

Me who has been a loyal customer of yours. Years and years we had to rent DVDs from you in the houses at It had to drive to go get your business. Yeah. Okay. If you ruin Little House on the Prairie. What? Yeah, they're rebooting Little House on the Prairie. No. They are. They're touching Michael Landon. No. I know, Jen. No. I know. I have mixed feelings about it. Okay.

But here's the deal. What was the angel show you was in? I was trying to. Highway to heaven. Highway to heaven. Okay. Here's the deal. I do love When Calls the Heart on Hallmark. It's just I don't though. I mean, no, you wouldn't normally watch like Hallmark. Yeah. But you love romance. But I love but I drew traditional romance. Traditional. But I love When Calls the Heart. And I love

JEN (04:32.878)
the Jeanette Oak series. Like Love's Ever you know, like Love Comes Softly. yes, I've heard of those. I've never watched those. So I love those and I actually have been faithful on those because we used to have to go to Hallmark here in town and buy those as a D V D to watch those.

And those are keepers. She knows they're keepers. And like the girls, like Emma, not so much, but Aubrey always loved those because they're kind of Western. Yes. You know? Yeah. So she kinda liked that. So we definitely like Bonded over that. Bonded over that. We still love we we still watch When Calls the Heart. I I it it's literally the only show I watch on Hallmark. Yeah. Okay.

Like it's not what like I really just enjoy the characters in there. I can hardly even stomach the Christmas stuff because it's so cheesy. It's just like Okay, he's disguised as a prince. You're a poor person, blah, blah, blah. Move on. That's how he comes she comes from the city. He's a he's a country boy, you know, in a c snowy town. They have to put on a festival and win some, you know, dresser shop.

Just the same the same stuff all day. okay. Well now now that you've put me on spot, I don't know what the hell to say. I wanted to ask you though, 'cause okay, so this week, Ashton took Tobin and they went to see Toy Story. And so I wanted to ask how that was. So it was really good. Okay. Finish your response and then I'll

I'm just gonna take this time to drink. Take this time to drink. Mm-hmm. Drink and vape. okay. How was Toy Story? Toy Story was fantastic. I actually liked it better than the fourth one. And no hate to Sporky and all them, but like I really just did. there was only like a 20-minute kind of period that Tobin got a little bored in the the middle. Mm-hmm. But if you've not

JEN (06:29.462)
seen it, then you can't really relate, but like there's a bunch of buzzes in this that comes from outer space. Uh-huh. And so Tobin was like, there's so many buzzes. It was like so cute watching his face because he was into stuff. Because he was like, there's so many buzzes. Like it was like It's magic. It is magic to him. Emma cried she almost beholding me. Because for okay. So this toy story is more about Jesse. Mm-hmm

than it is anybody else. And Emma's like connection to Jesse, I don't know why, but like in Toy Story Two, uh-huh, when Jesse talks about her being left behind. yeah. And that song play. She's such good character. Yes. That's that's one of my favorite. Yes. So horrible. Well here's the deal. Emma gets really emotional in that scene. Anyways, like I have b I d I have ugly cry to that. You have to remember Emma is an old soul too. Yes. And she gets

Sentimental. She she's very sentimental, but she also gets attached to non living things. Yes. Like, you know, Mr. Bear. She has a car or the Yeah, or like her Barbie. Remember we had our Barbies when she was little. So, you know, like Emma has emotionally attached to to things that are not real. Yeah. And that's okay. And I love that kid in her. Yeah. Okay. Like I that she's like that. Yeah. So this was like you could hear her. She like snorting crying because she just felt

It was very emotional to watch. Even for me. Well, she's in a transition time. She is in a transition time too. And this like in that storyline, like you do feel like I I I'll say this. You feel like you don't have a place to fit in. Yeah. Like you're kind of in a weird spot and you don't want to go through hurt again. Yeah. Like Jessie doesn't want to be hurt. She doesn't want to fall in love with another kid who's just gonna abandon her. Yeah. And the good yeah.

Yeah. And so like it is very it touches deep. And that's the thing about those movies though is that it's like everybody can sort of apply something to their life of like, Yeah, that's happened to me. You know, like I that's sad or Yeah, no. That's how there's so And I think for us, you know, it's because, you know, my mom went with us and my mom said, I've I've watched these movies with three generations. Yeah. So like Alden was little when the first one came out. Yes. And then Emma and Aubrey were, you know, little when like

JEN (08:57.56)
Four or three of three and four, definitely. Yeah. And then now Tobin. And so mom was kind of emotional too, because she's like, this is my third generation of seeing these, you know. It's real. And all seeing it together new. Correct. It's not like you're just watching an old baby video. No. And it was Tobin was hilarious, but let me just tell you. I do love him. Uh-huh. Very, very much. There's no denying that. Mm-hmm. But

Had a little bit of PTSD. So Frozen came out when Aubrey was Tobin's age. yeah. She was two to three. Told me about this. And she was obsessed. Okay. Like every little girl her age. We had to listen. I can't. I can't believe you're not still wearing princess dress. We had to still, we had to listen to the frozen soundtrack. Over and over. It's a good thing you like to repeat, shit. However, I no, I don't. Because Aubrey's favorite song in that was not.

Let it go or a beautiful song. It was the very song from the very beginning when they're beating the us and they're like ho ho ho And it's like on the dun dun. okay, okay. Well that's a good song. I like that. I like that. You know, whatever they're from, whatever country they're from. Yeah, we're country. It's like a yeah, makeup world yeah. But anyways, Aubrey didn't like the pretty princess songs. She wanted that one. Yeah. My girl. That's the girl.

My girl a hundred times over. So we've moved past that. Yeah. No. Now, Tobin, the other night, mind you, I drove from my house. Now I enabled it. Sometimes it's worth it. Yeah. Sometimes it's not. My sanity. Sometimes it's not. You gotta use your weapons wisely. When I can. Mm-hmm. I was like, this can't be too bad. It was bad. So from my house to Victoria and Ethan's house last Friday, it's about 40 minutes. 35 minutes. Mm-hmm.

We had to listen to You've Got a Friend in Me on repeat the whole time. And he You can't even listen to the soundtrack. Like make him listen to the soundtrack. I've tried, Jen. No, you got a friend in me, mama. You got a friend in me, mama. And then the problem is, is I'm like, okay, well that's fine. I'll just turn it down, put it in the bag. Yeah. No, he wants you to sing with him. yeah. So he says, Sing louder, mama. Okay. Sing louder, mama. So then we're yelling, Yeah. You've got a friend in me.

JEN (11:24.706)
We went through a man in the mirror phase. Okay, man in the mirror, I can take. Yeah, you can take that because you can put over. That gets old fast. Gets old fast. I literally got to Vic and Brandy Newman is great, but I mean I literally got to Vic and Ethan's and I was like, he's yours. I do not care. I love him, but I've got to go. Bye. Bye. I love you, but I've got to go. Jake would die. He would that would kill him. Because that's how he we do. So main thing I want to talk about today is I

have been my phone's listening to me for one. for obviously we know that we've said this a hundred times. But you know, like so I've I'm on a conspiracy theory kick anyway on TikTok. You know, like I I think ever since the Alien Mall, Miami Mall thing, it's really like gotten me down some rabbit holes. yeah. But but the problem is is that now my TikTok is about so I kinda went down another rabbit hole and I do this about every five years. Yeah.

Of the the the three women in Missouri who went missing. And the the the Memphis n no not the Memphis, sorry. The Missouri the three women in Missouri in the eighties that went missing. Were they near caves and stuff? No, no, no. They were at their house. like they grabbed the there there was two teenage girls and then one of the teenage girls' mother. the two teenage girls' mothers had had

The two teenagers had graduated. They were supposed to stay at a friend's house that night, but the friend had family over. They went to some parties. The friend had family over, so they didn't have room for them. So the girls went to one of the other girls' house and spent the night. And they were all supposed to get up the next morning and go to Branson to the water park. And they wouldn't answer the phone. There's no cell phones back then. Yeah. So they're calling Melanie Line. Nobody was answering. So the friend that was supposed to go with them to the water park went over. Nobody was there. All their purses were still there.

Anyways, you should look it up. It it's it's called the let me let me look it up real quick. I wanna get the mi Missouri. Missouri.

JEN (13:33.548)
Missouri the I don't care. Missouri three.

JEN (13:41.518)
Springfield. S Springfield. So they're called so they're called the Springfield 3. Okay. And it refers to the unsolved June seventh, 1992 disappearance of Cheryl Levitt, her daughter, Susan Strader, and her s and Susie's friend Stacey McCall. Okay. It's super, super weird. They've still not solved this case. Okay. And this was in nineteen ninety-two. Yeah. Okay. So if anybody's interested, I don't know if you have HBO, but People Magazines

I love that series, the People Magazine series. People investigates or whatever. Yeah. So season four, episode one, it's about that. Okay. And about every five years, I go down this like rabbit hole on it because it it's one of those cases that really haunts me. Haunts you. Yeah. Because it's like the disappearing thing. Well, and they to this day have never found a bone. Or someone has not found big And I know me I know that me and you've talked about this before about how we do not understand.

Someone could know. Someone could know something and not have Or maybe they are. But it just breaks my heart because like they in in that people's magazine. Well, it it's like, okay. Like at some point, I I and and maybe, maybe it will happen eventually. I mean, nineteen ninety two, we were all I mean, when did you graduate? I mean, I graduated in ninety five, so I was like, that's the year I started driving. So maybe though, people just haven't been on death's bed yet to want to confess that to someone.

Maybe. And so hopefully they will. But what's really weird about that case is that there was no like break in. Mm-hmm. All their purses were there. Mm-hmm. There was no blood at the crime scene. So they willingly went. But what's weird about it is is did they willingly go or did they like someone say, I'm gonna do this. If you don't come Right, I'll kill your family. I'll yeah. Like but like what's so weird to me is I'm sitting there and I'm like, How did like how does someone just

disappear. Well, 'cause I saw I I didn't get to watch this video yet, but I saw that did they see Nancy Guthrie with her kidnapper on a camera? Well, I I don't know if they saw her with him. I thought that at one point they saw what they thought was him. Right, no, on a camera with her. But I the latest video I've seen is that they may have video evidence of them being together. You will And then the second letter supposedly did say that she was already dead and that's why they don't know that way. I don't think that I mean

JEN (16:07.672)
I don't wanna say that she isn't or she is because that's not our place to say. No. However, I just think that it what makes me so sad about this is it's just like Natalie Holloway, which they finally come you know, figured out. I mean, obviously though, they knew that Vandersloot. Jared Vandersloot, I know his name. They knew that Holly Natalie Holloway was dead. Yeah, they knew, yeah. Didn't they know she was dead? Or did they just think she was missing for a while? No, I think she was missing. Okay. But you know, here's the deal. I'm like

Just do the family justice and tell like send an anonymous letter, something say The problem is that there's too many ways to catch people in these days and so now. Now. Yeah. Back then though. But in nineteen ninety two they didn't have the crime scene investigations like they do now. You're right. But it really is a case that haunts me. So if anybody's interested in going down a rabbit hole, that's it. But then what happened was is so then on my TikTok. Uhhuh. The old school unsolved mysteries. Started popping up.

I can hear the music right now. Me too. Yeah. It how were we just tortured by watching that? Well, you know, it was a late night thing. So we probably didn't watch much of it. I mean I did. I mean, I probably did, but not a whole lot. No, like we watched it all the time. But then I think what happened too is when I was a kid, like two thousands. When like Dish came out. Yes.

I think my mother so much to do. I think my mother rewatched those because I think at one point Lifetime Movie Network or not Lifetime, but Lifetime redid those or some some they rebooted the series or something. Yeah. And so they like we could watch it during the day more. Yeah, yeah. And I just started thinking. So I looked up 'cause I was very interested 'cause I was like, I wonder what is the most like. So I I I just wanted to say

I w I I was like, what is the most creepiest or most watched or most like notorious unsolved mystery crap? huh. So the classic era pick, which would be our like nineteen ninety four, like the original. Because obviously you know there's a new one, which I haven't watched. okay. There's a new like unsolved mystery. So it has like a new I you will never, yeah. No. You cannot No. And his voice was so haunting. Yeah. Can you imagine being married to him? No.

JEN (18:27.372)
No, I he was attractive man. I mean But I'm saying like can you imagine him talking to you like that? Like I would always think I'd end up in a murder scene. Yeah, but you know those kind of people are probably like really arrogant and and like ha you get to spell about their voice and then you have to listen to it. my god. I don't think Morgan Freeman. No, I don't think he is, but he has a good he has a personality, you know, he has a good what's it sense of humor. It says if you ask fans of of the original run,

Which segment gave them the most sleepless nights? It's always the terrifying psychological puzzle of Circleville, Ohio. Do you know this? No, I'm just saying that again, it confirms my suspicions that Ohio people are. No, Ohio. Okay, Ohio. So this story. In 1976, residents of a small town began receiving vicious, anonymous letters detailing their deepest, darkest secrets.

The primary target was a school bus driver accused of an affair. Soon booby traps were set, a suspicious fatal crash occurred, and an alleged innocent man was framed and sent to prison. Yet the letters kept coming even while he was in solitary confinement. Why it's the best, it says it features the ultimate meta twist. While the crew was filming the segment, the show itself received a threatening letter, postmark, from Columbus, Ohio,

Reading Turn Around and Go Back to Hoho Ohio, Elam, drop it. Circleville Rider Hurt You. The pure another idea that the writer was watching the show make it it makes it even more unforgettable masterpiece of suspense. Yeah, because he's even involved in the telling of the story. Well, and like he was watching the unsolved mysteries of him, the stuff he did.

And probably just reveling in what they don't know, what you don't know. People are sick. There are evil people out there, but also that don't care. I feel like they're not as arrogant as you think they are, because why would they not like do more? Why do they go into hiding? Purely delusional and pe tortured people that are evil, you know, there's not a lot of there's not a good way to like reason why they would do something. So last but not least, before we wrap up this

JEN (20:42.444)
very short episode because we're just You got plans. We please. It's a Monday. I don't have plans. It is a Monday. For those who prefer hyper complex webs of conspiracy, this classic segment is unmatched the story. Charles Morgan, an escrow agent in Arizona, disappeared and returned home days later with his throat coated in a numbing agent, using sign language to claim he was working as a secret agent for the federal government.

Months later he was found dead in the desert from a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Why was this one of the best? The clues are utterly baffling. He was wearing a bulletproof vest. A two dollar bill was pinned to his underwear with a map of the body and a list of the names written in Spanish. To make it even crazier, a woman named Ruth called police shortly after revealing Chuck had a briefcase full of cash to buy his life back from the mob.

Journalist who later investigated his death also ended up dead or targeted, making it a truly dangerous rabbit hole. It's funny that we're talking about this stuff because I also saved a story of crazy crumb crap. And it was the guy's name okay, it was such a creepy story. It was a it was so it it was a YouTube video and it was like a journalist that got taken hostage by a killer who she was interviewing. Bye.

I just feel like And he held a pen to her neck. Okay, here's the For four hours. Okay, I just watched too much criminal minds. That's my problem. But my whole ordeal is that I just don't I mean, obviously we all know how kind of crazy I am and that I would love to interview Yes. Andrea Yates. Yes, she would. I I'm a little psycho like that. Yeah.

Well you're just really curious. Okay, because hers is psychological. Because you're not like r you're not like into the story. You're just curious about the wise. But a serial murderer, I'm not going to talk to them. No. I am not about to meet someone who is could literally kill me with a spoon. Like has no no conscience because what was happening was he went on a crime spree across the country with his mother. Okay?

JEN (23:02.366)
And he was so close to his mother. That is weird. That he like they still held hands and stuff. Like on the news stuff. Like it was weird So Sago. It was weird. And so apparently she got taken down and then he got taken down after her. And then he wanted to tell his story. So he was begging Court TV to be able to come and to to video the trial and the judge turned it down. And so then after he was convicted, then they let

this reporter come in and then he takes her hostage. And she said the one thing that made him sort of change,

JEN (23:43.02)
Okay. How sleep. Yeah, that was a good that was nice to give you a heads up. Mm-hmm. No ghosts in there. No ghosts here. so yeah, so anyways, he like then he after he got a chance to tell a story, that's why they were coming to let him tell a story. And then he takes the girl hostage and and she had to be like she had to talk about her daughter and stuff like that to like get him to like let up. But he was held a pin to her neck and she's like, I and the the the guys

We're just like cover your eyes because we don't know what they're gonna do. He might stab you in the eye or something. The problem is is you just don't tempt fate. We know that. No. We know that. And do you She said it happened so fast she's I can't remember the statistics. I feel like we we and we are coming up on our one year episode. We are. We're gonna look at the day. We are gonna look at the day. But we have to do something special. We might give away a red, white, and blue bag this year. Let's do a giveaway. Okay. Well, I won't be able to get it done until after Micah's wedding. No, no. We're gonna do a giveaway. We will

I will do a giveaway giveaway. But I want to give away a patriotic bag that I make this year too. So maybe closer to like fall, Christmas time, I can have one ready and then we can do like a giveaway. But we are gonna do a one-year giveaway. Okay. But what I will say is I can't remember one time we looked at the statistics. Did you walk past like how many serial killers in your life? yeah. Not zero like murderers or something. Murderers, like someone who's murdered someone. Yeah. I don't remember. I got a brain freeze. But

Worth it. It was worth it. I guess the lips is always worth it. Yeah. it is crazy though. And it's just you just don't know anything. So now I've gone back and started watching full segments of Unsolved Mysteries. I mean, those can they it could be worse. I just want to skip the ghost ones. I don't do the demon ghosts. Yeah, God. Those scare me. No, I need to know about the real people who I need to be watching out for. Because people are downright crazy. I'm telling you, Ohio.

What is wrong in Ohio, Joey? I'm gonna need you to tell me what is wrong with Ohio. Yes. That makes all kinds of sense. But no get out of there. He's more normal than them. He got out of there. We love you. We'll see if he listens. He doesn't listen. No, he doesn't. He doesn't listen. We'll see if he I asked Ray one time if he listens. He's like, no. I'm like, what we're all talking about. You need to be Ash's husband and stuff. You said that? What did he say, Jen? He died like. Jen.

JEN (26:07.88)
When I walk around the corner. I said, we make jokes about that you would be the perfect husband, Brady. Jenna! You said that? Yes, because I'm friends with him like that. I am mortified. I'm friends with him too, and I'm not that like ballsy. Well, all we have to do is go to YouTube, race play, and hear it all for himself.

This is why we can have a podcast. This is why we can have a podcast. We say all our stuff on the air and then we don't want anyone to hear it. See you later. See you later. See you Friday. See Friday.
