Hi, and welcome to The State. I'm your host, Rebecca McVoy. Today's date is 10/14/2025. The forecast predicts that it'll be a cool day with a high being 70 and a low of being 52. This date brings you the stories that matter.
Speaker 1:Starting today off with MSU community celebrate Spartan spirit at homecoming parade. Community members, children, furry friends, Michigan State University students, and alumni alike gathered to watch the MSU homecoming parade on October 10. The parade started its route on Abbott Road near the East Lansing Hanna Community Center and snakes its way down Grand River and onto campus, ending on Farm Lane at the Red Cedar Bridge. The parade was filled with floats from different MSU Lansing organizations. Alumni of all ages attended the homecoming celebration with friends and family.
Speaker 1:MSU volleyball weather, a late Iowa comeback to clinch a five set victory. In a game against Iowa, the Spartans took control early, powered by a balanced offense and steady serving in the first two opening sets. Evie, Dozma, and Carmen Way formed a sturdy wall at the net, combining four blocks and 20 kills, helping the Spartans hit an impressive point two nine three overall for the match. MSU cruised through the first two sets, 25 to twenty and twenty five to 15, but the Iowa Hawkeyes clawed back. Led by Carmel Vars and Charti Vanzdent, Iowa capitalized on Michigan State's errors to steal a tight third set, 25 to 23.
Speaker 1:The momentum continued in the fourth, as the Hawkeyes took advantage of miscommunications on MSU's side to claim the frame, 20 five-twenty one, tying the match at two sets apiece. In the fifth set, the Spartans closed the door with a fifteen-seven win, punctuated by a final kill from Dozma off a long assist. MSU says no ICE activity on campus. Michigan State University's Department of Police and Public Safety says it has received no information indicating Immigration and Customs Enforcement is present on campus. Spokesperson Nadia Vazuta said Thursday that MSU has not been notified of ICE activity at the university and has not received reports beyond general rumors.
Speaker 1:Several student organizations, including Sunrise and MSU Democrats, circulated advisories urging students to be cautious and to look out for one another. Each noted they had not confirmed ICE's presence or activities on the MSU campus. And, for our last story of the day, MSU football stunned by UCLA in homecoming blowout. In East Lansing, the UCLA Bruins, hot off an upset victory over number seven Penn State last weekend, entered Spartan Stadium and reigned on the Spartans homecoming parade as they scored 38 unanswered points to defeat MSU 38 to 13. Hopes were high for the green and white heading into this game.
Speaker 1:MSU looked to earn its first conference victory against a one of four UCLA team, but ultimately ended up not getting that victory that was hoped for.
