And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Thursday the 21st March 2024.

Vaughan Gething has been confirmed as the new First Minster of Wales, after Mark Drakeford made the decision to step down.
Before taking on the role of Leader, Gething was the Welsh Minister for the Economy between 2021 and 2024, whilst also being the Health and Social Services Minister between 2016 and 2021.
Gething posted on his x.com account that he is “honoured” to take on the role.

A plan to develop the groundwork on which sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the North of England will be based, is set to be approved by leaders.
With approval being recommended at yesterday’s meeting of the Transport for the North board, the plan will outline the case to transform the transport system in the north.
The driving force behind this is the thinking that, by 2050, Transport for the North believes that the right investment and policy levers could grow the economy by £118 billion.

Andy Burnham and Andy Street are currently supporting work towards establishing a new, cheaper alternative to cancelled phase of HS2, with preliminary research outlining how a new railway line can improve connections.
The new line will cover the route between Handsacre and High Legh, with the latter connecting the route with a new line between Liverpool and Manchester.
This also came at yesterday’s meeting of the Transport for the North Board, with a number of important measures announced.
