Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
By our unconscious influence others may be encouraged and
strengthened, or they may be discouraged, and repelled from Christ
and the truth. – Steps to Christ, pg. 120
“What’s for breakfast?” The question echoed down the line in
a domino-like sequence.
At last my eyes laid hold of the first breakfast basket: it was
full of waffles! Steadying my plate, I proceeded to pile on a stack of
this delicious breakfast treat. After lathering my waffles in sweet, sticky
maple syrup, I joined my friends at the dining table.
Gazing down at the scene in front of me, I summoned my knife
and fork like a lion ready to attack its prey. After making a delicate
incision, I proceeded to take a bite with hungry anticipation.
Disappointment slapped my face.
An overload of unpleasant flavours mingled together in my
mouth. These waffles did not taste like waffles. The subtlety of orange,
garlic spice, and the saltiness of last night’s burritos hit my palate like
a bus. My waffles were outrageously detestable.
An inquiry was made as to the offense my taste-buds had so
cruelly suffered. My waffles that had looked and smelled so good were
found to be quite the opposite of fresh. Prepared hours in advance,
they were settled into the fridge and left there to soak up the many
flavours the refrigerator had to offer.
Like it or not, you are a lot like my waffles. Okay, sorry about
that. Let me explain. My influence on you is like a flavour. Without
knowing it, you are soaking up whatever I have to offer, but that
doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Many flavours work well together, like
chocolate and hazelnuts or tomato and basil. I need to be a flavour
that will encourage and strengthen my friends in their walk with Christ.
