Welcome to The Figuring It Out Podcast.
At 22, I took the plunge to go on the entrepreneurial journey and start a fitness business, 7 years later I’d been the nutritionist for 2 elite sports clubs and private coach to some of the worlds best sportsmen and women.
Now it’s my mission to show fitness coaches how you can put yourself in a league of their own, become the go to coach, and finally eliminate the self-doubt and imposter syndrome that's holding you back from building the business of your dreams.
This podcast will help you figure out how to thrive and conquer the fear that comes with the lonely entrepreneurial journey.
If fear is the only thing stopping us from achieving our dreams and we only fear what we don't understand, then the antidote to fear is knowledge.
Speaker 2:All we have to do is find out who
Speaker 1:has the knowledge that we need to conquer our fears and achieve our entrepreneurial dreams. My name is Callum Walker, and welcome to the podcast that will help you figure it out and conquer this lonely entrepreneurial journey.
Speaker 2:Hello, everyone, and welcome to the podcast. We've got an evening episode here today. It is 09:00, and I'm yes. I am going against my sleep optimization advice. If you did give the sleep series a listen, then you will know that the one thing that we don't want to do is stimulate ourselves before going to bed.
Speaker 2:However, however, I'm gonna be really honest with you here. I'm in a bit of a place where just maybe a little bit of a crossroads, just in terms of almost kind of the direction in which things are really kind of going for me in terms of my coaching on what it is that I'm looking to really kind of like coach and almost kind of like where I fit in. And and I'll be real, and this is why I'm really, really kind of hot on doing a podcast and for you to do a podcast. I say to all of my my clients on my Next Level Coach membership that they should do a podcast, whether it's a members only podcast, whether it's a public podcast, or whether it's just a private podcast. Because I'm sure you probably noticed from listening to this.
Speaker 2:This is kinda like a deep diary for me. So although yes, this is about providing valuable information for you to be able to apply to your entrepreneurial journey as a fitness coach. But it also kind of serves as a way for me to kind of like do two things. The first thing, you know, as I'm talking to you guys, as I'm delivering an episode, I'm learning not only in terms of the best way to learn is to teach. So when I'm teaching specific things, those things really kind of like get hammered into my subconscious.
Speaker 2:But also I'm really kind of learning a lot about what's really kind of going on internally and I found that by delivering an episode like this, it just really allows me to to view what's actually going on when I listen back. So as I kind of mentioned about a minute ago, you know, I'm at a little bit of a crossroads in terms of like going, okay, right, what what do I want to stand for? So I've been really struggling with my Instagram content recently, not necessarily my podcast content, but my Instagram content. Because the thought of doing just nutrition specific reels for coaches and nutrition specific content for coaches, it it really kind of pains me. It pains me to do that because I've spoken so much about nutrition over the years.
Speaker 2:Not that I, you know, wanna stop doing that in the slightest, like no, I just, you know, a few months ago delivered my six week course for the next level coach. It was fantastic. I love delivering every moment of it. But to talk about it twenty four seven is quite challenging. And just in terms of kind of my content and my messaging that I wanna kind of bring people more towards me, I'm just trying to figure out what that is.
Speaker 2:And I think that the way that you can really go about doing that is asking yourself that question and doing it in the form of podcast. So how can this help you and what tips and advice can I kind of give you here? Well maybe you've been you know in the fitness space for a long time and maybe things have just kind of got a little bit maybe stagnant, that maybe your enthusiasm to get your message out there has been subdued. Maybe for some reason you're procrastinating more than you you have done previously. Maybe you've just started to kind of experience feelings that you haven't experienced for a long time, like more anxiety, maybe an element of you would turn up to coaching calls with specific clients with excitement and wonder.
Speaker 2:And now those same calls or those same sessions if you're an in person PT starts for you with a little bit of dread. If you are in that sort of space, then I really feel like this episode could help you. So I'm not gonna say that I've turned up to my coaching calls with dread. Like I absolutely haven't. Like I really, haven't.
Speaker 2:But I think what I've been really trying to search for is almost like, you know, that in terms of my twelve month membership for example, it's not just a twelve month nutrition course, it's so much more than that. But then it's also not a business mentorship. I'm not looking to be a business mentor and say, hey, I'll take you to to ten k months. So right now I'm really just trying to like piece that together in terms of what is it? What is it that I really, really kind of stand for?
Speaker 2:And what are the key things that I want to teach? And where do I fit in with this puzzle? So what I've kind of done is, you know, I this is my, yeah, I'm in my, I think, fifty fourth episode, might be fifty fifth, which is pretty crazy actually when I think about it. I'm in the fifties of my podcast episodes. But I I've listened back to a lot of my episodes to really kind of look at what are the things that I've always wanted to talk about.
Speaker 2:Because if I look at my podcast, every single episode that I've recorded, I've gone, I'm really excited to go and record a podcast episode. I'm really excited to share this specific lesson. This is what I want to share. So I've always kind of approached it with excitement and hopefully you can sense that excitement. You can sense that like the energy that comes out where it's like, oh my God, this guy is so passionate about this thing.
Speaker 2:It's like almost like he's discovered fire every single episode. Because with every single episode that I've turned up to, like it almost kind of is that like I've consistently learnt new information and that excites me. So one thing that I really, really love doing is learning. And I think one thing I'm very, very good at is learning, but more importantly as well. And again, part of the process is that one thing I've learned that I am very, very good at is actually setting the body and the mind up in a place to be able to learn at your highest level.
Speaker 2:So again, you look at the title of this podcast, It really kind of being figuring it out. You look at the the intro that it's really saying that, you know, if you only feel what you don't understand, then the antidote to fear is knowledge. So all we have to do is acquire the knowledge from the people who have that knowledge. So So if I look at kind of my passion for exercise, nutrition, sleep optimization, mindfulness, cold war therapy, it's really been around getting the body and the mind in a place to be able to absorb new information, which then allows you to overcome any anxiety, fear, worry down the line. And that's been what I really, really love to talk about and really, really love to to share.
Speaker 2:And and I've come to that realization off the back of being able to look back. So again, how can this help you? Well, maybe you're really trying to kinda like change up the kind of coaching that you're doing right now. Maybe you've got a bit bored of the fat loss game. Maybe you've got a bit bored of just I'm gonna get someone into shape and you wanna do something deeper.
Speaker 2:You really wanna touch people's lives in a way that is deeper, you want to go and expand yourself, you want to grow, you want to step into a new level version of yourself, I think that you start by just talking about the things that you want to talk about, share the things that really, really excite you, and then you can kinda get to a place where I'm at now 50 plus episodes deep, where I can then look back at all of those episodes and I can see the pattern. So for me, I've been really trying to dig out like, right, within my membership, what is the key reason as to why they're in the membership? Like, yes, absolutely. Like, being part of my twelve month membership, you will get better results for your clients. Sorry.
Speaker 2:I'm yawning. It is twenty past nine, so fair enough. So you will get better results with your clients, absolutely. But then there's other key things that we need to kind of look into that, which is you also got to be able to operate at your highest level. And we also need to consistently overcome any fear, worry and doubt by acquiring new skills.
Speaker 2:And all three of those things are things that I am incredibly passionate about, that I am incredibly good at teaching, and I have exceptional results with my clients in terms of being able to deliver that. So again, how can that help you? Well, I've come to that realization off the back of looking back at all of the episodes that I've shared. They've all had those three key things in common. That it's either being around, this is how you can get better results for your client.
Speaker 2:This is how you can overcome negativity, worry, fear, and doubt. And this is how you can really build the the coaching program and the business that you want to build, not just to make money, but how to really discover your own passion project. In the words of Paolo Coelho from The Alchemist, how to discover your personal legend. And and it's amazing that whenever I've been delivering these podcasts that that it's almost kind of like I've used it as a way to get back onto the path of my own personal legend. So I think for you, if you really are maybe just a little bit lost, maybe a little bit stuck, or maybe just a bit of a crossroads where you're like, I really, really want to I don't know.
Speaker 2:There's just something not quite right about where I am right now and what I am coaching and how I am doing it. And I just I don't know. I just know that I am meant for more than this. I just know that I am meant to do more than this. I would do two things.
Speaker 2:I would look at, first of all, what is the content that you're really excited to absorb? What is the content you're really excited to absorb? So for me, I look at the types of books that I look to that I I I read and I look forward to reading. It's not necessarily personal development books in terms of like the goal setting stuff. I'm well, I'm fascinated by the working of the mind and how we can control our mind and how we can use our mind as opposed to being used by our mind and be able to use it as a tool to really kind of allow us to overcome the problems and the challenges that we face in life.
Speaker 2:But then secondly, I'm fascinated by influence, by understanding how we can influence other people to go and take behavior, to go and take actions and influence their behavior, otherwise known as inspiration. Then the other thing is that I still have a huge, huge excitement and passion for understanding how we can use human physiology to enhance our performance, but specifically how to to use it to overcome anxiety, fear, worry, doubt, impostor syndrome, and really kind of step into our own. So I've been a quite I've been listening to tons of books on how the mind works. I've been relentlessly listening to Andy Hewman's podcast because I love it. But then also then if I look at the things that I want to share by looking back at my podcast and start talking about those things, the answer then starts to reveal itself to you.
Speaker 2:So then you've built up a bank of evidence to be able to go okay right that's the direction that I need to go in. So if anything, if the only thing that doing a podcast does for you is what it has done for me, which is also kind of serve as a source of therapy in a way. It's almost kind of like a written journal. So all of your anxieties and your worries kind of just calm themselves off the back of delivering this. And then the the fact that it then gets shared onto someone else who can then deepen a relationship with you, and want to move closer towards you and potentially grow your business, well, that's a bonus.
Speaker 2:But I think what I would really kind of press to you is start a podcast. Start a podcast, but do it for you. Do it about you. Share the challenges you're currently experiencing. You know, again, I've shared a challenge I'm experiencing right now.
Speaker 2:I'm really trying to redefine my kind of place in this fitness ecosystem. And this is my process by which I'm looking to go and do that. But then also the way that I feel now thirty minutes into this episode is so much better than I did at the start of the episode. I feel I have clarity. I mean, I've tried not to speak with too much energy because it is twenty past nine.
Speaker 2:Again, we don't wanna be activating our sympathetic nervous system at this time of the night. We wanna be nice and calm. Oh gosh. Nice and chilled. Nice and relaxed.
Speaker 2:And that's what we wanna do. So hopefully you found this useful. And your key takeaways really is that if you are a little bit stuck, you are at a crossroad. I think the first thing is that, you know, the person who has the answers, it's actually you. You have the answers.
Speaker 2:All you need to do is just figure out the the mechanism that you can use to bring those answers out of you. I'm reading a book at the moment. Selling one zero one, Ziglar on selling. So Zig Ziglar on selling. It's brilliant, I must say.
Speaker 2:And he said the purpose of this book is to bring the salesperson out of you, Not to turn you into a salesperson, but to bring the salesperson that is already inside of you out of you. Same with this. Use your podcast as a way to bring the answers you already have inside of you out of you and make it clear what you need to do. Never forget if every one of your clients gave you just one new client, you've doubled your business.
