Annual Earth Bash showcases sustainability and education. In preparation for Earth Day this Wednesday, the MSU surplus store and recycling center held its annual Earth Month event, Earth Bash, from noon to 4PM on Saturday, April 18 on-site. The open house event hosted 15 partners with various events, six activities, and teaching about sustainability. Tours of the recycling center show how waste from the school is managed as a resource. Of all the booths in the center, students and community members could make crafts, gain knowledge, get new clothes, books, and more.

Partners like Karma Cloth in sewing and embroidery comp an embroidery club or yarn circle used crafts to demonstrate how to reduce waste. Old t shirts and plastic bags were the spotlight of Yarn Circle's booth. They taught attendees to make yarn out of supplies and use it for crochet or knitting. Trustees Scott, Ted Bay Zemick, and net Democrat nomination for MSU board. Michigan State University's trustees Brianna Scott and Kelly Tabay Zemick will once again be the Democratic candidates for the university's board of trustees, fending off challenge by state senate Sylvia Santana, Detroit to earn the state party's nomination Sunday in Detroit.

I will continue to work to make sure that Michigan State remains affordable for our in state students, Scott said in her victory speech at 09:30PM. I promise you I will continue to do what has always been in the best interest of Michigan State University. The Board of Trustees composed of eight members who serve staggered eight year terms, with two seats up for grabs in November. Scott and Tabay Zemick, the longest serving trustees on the board, both took office in January 2019 as members of the university's governing body. They have overseen prolonged periods of strife at MSU and episodes of infighting on the board, including the aftermath of the Larry Nassar scandal and the years long saga that ensued after Scott's 2023 bombshell accusation that the then board chair was engaging in widespread misconduct.

MUN hosts twenty four hour hockey game for cancer fundraiser. The stretch of sweat and ice filled Munn Ice Arena at 1AM on Sunday morning. The crowd with seven people including some asleep, Munn Ice Arena, home of the Michigan State hockey team, hosted a twenty four hour hockey game beginning Saturday, April 18. The first puck dropped at 2PM Saturday and the final horn sounded at 2PM Sunday. The event was a fundraiser for families affected by pediatric cancer sponsored by Live Free, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the fight against pediatric cancer.

Speaker 1:

Dan Viera founded Live Free in honor of his daughter Lauren Irene Viera, a pediatric cancer survivor. Live Free has existed for nine years, and its twenty four hour hockey marathon has existed for two. The game at Munn is the first one outside of Connecticut where Vera and Live Free are based. Over 90 people participated in the event. Some people were dressed for the occasion in full hockey padding, others stuck out on the ice.
