Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

Like rays of light from the sun, like the streams of water bursting from
a living spring, blessings flow out from Him to all His creatures. And
wherever the life of God is in the hearts of men, it will flow out to
others in love and blessing. – Steps to Christ, pg. 77
Darkness smothers the room, filling every nook and cranny.
Shadows advance unchecked over the dimly lit furniture. I stare into
the inky blackness for a fleeting moment. Then, click! The darkness
instantly vanishes, and the mischievous shadows scurry for cover.
The proud conqueror, a solitary light bulb, stands stoutly in the center
of the white ceiling, shedding its welcome rays of light over the now
illuminated room.
We use electric light so frequently that we flick the light
switch without even consciously thinking about what we’re doing. But
what would life be like if every time we wanted light we had to ignite
a candle? Whenever we went anywhere near flammable material,
we would be constantly worried about catching everything on fire.
Nighttime automobile travel at high speeds would be practically
impossible. The light bulb revolutionized life. A large part of the
commercial success of the electric light is due to the fact that the
light bulb is not the originator of energy, like candles and oil lamps.
The electricity provides the energy and the light bulb simply shines
because of the energy flowing through it.
The bulb does not try to shine; it just does. Jesus said, “Let
your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16 NKJV). It doesn’t say
to make your light shine, grit your teeth and try harder, or fake it ‘till
you make it; no, let your light shine. We don’t have light in ourselves,
but Jesus wants to live through us, to have His spirit and energy flow
through us to others. I want to surrender to God and let Him shine
through me.
