Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. – 1 Corinthians 15:26
KJV
A dark and menacing shape caught the corner of my eye.
The creature was unclear, but something about its physique sent
shivers up my spine. Its footsteps weighed tons, and its breath shook
the earth. Whatever it touched dropped lifeless into a pit of darkness.
Its grip, as cold as ice, brought sorrow to the earth. Even after the
monster passed, its footsteps remained imprinted on the ground,
reminding humanity of the horrors it brought.
Prophecy foretold that one day the creature would be
overthrown. Once the monster realized its fate, it resorted to more
lethal tactics, attempting to cause as much destruction as possible
before its demise. Men turned on each other, blood stained the earth,
and hospitals overflowed. No armies could kill it, for that is its own
power—its name is Death.
When Death appeared on earth, it could not be controlled or
repressed. Families and nations were left destitute. As the millennia
passed, Death knew that its time on Earth was quickly slipping away,
so it redoubled its efforts. The Prince could no longer bear to watch the
madness—so He resolved to vanquish Death. However, after a threeand-
a-half-year battle, the Prince lay lifeless in a tomb—seemingly
defeated. Earth’s inhabitants trembled with despair, but little did they
know that the Prince was immune to Death’s powers. As Jesus rose
from the clutches of the grave, Death lost its immortality.
We have no need to fear Death, for its termination is imminent.
Even though we have felt its icy grip on our world, it is only temporary.
The Prince will come again, and He will kill Death once and for all.
