Good morning and welcome
to your morning cereal.
All right, good morning
and welcome to Friday.
Nicely done, you made it.
Maybe you didn't think
you would and you did.
So nicely done.
Today is national middle name pride day.
This is the one day a year
that you can finally admit
your middle name and it's
either gonna be glorious
or it's a huge air ball by your parents.
Either way, it's
survived childhood teasing
and it deserves its
moment in the spotlight today.
Well, the answer to
yesterday's trivia question,
Down syndrome.
The disorder caused by
an extra chromosome 21
is Down syndrome.
All right, well, it is time
now for the essential vitamins
in your morning cereal.
Today's quote is from birthday boy
turning 54 years old today,
unbelievably, Shaquille O'Neal, who said,
"Excellence is not a
singular act, but a habit.
You are what you repeatedly do."
All right, your morning decode.
True greatness is not achieved
through a single one-time
effort or a lucky moment.
Instead, excellence is a lifestyle.
It's defined by your
consistent, your daily habits
and your actions that
shape your character
and the results over time, right?
Clearly Shaq was not referring
to his free throw percentage there.
Well, let's go ahead and
hear from the experts now.
We're in the crumbs from
the bottom of the box now.
It's our last pour of the
let them theory by Mel Robbins.
And today we're gonna
wrap up the book entirely
with how to apply let them to teams.
And then we'll just do a
quick summary of the entire book.
So here we go.
Mel takes the core principle of let them
and she applies it to group dynamics.
Whether it's your
workplace, a volunteer committee,
a friend group, a team, a family unit,
the temptation is the same.
Control outcomes by managing people.
She writes this quote,
"You cannot build trust
by tightening your grip."
End quote.
In that line, it reframes
leadership entirely here.
In teams, let them means allowing others
to their own
responsibilities and their mistakes.
It means resisting the
urge to micromanage them,
to rescue them or to overcorrect them.
So Mel explains that
growth requires autonomy.
When you step back, you
create space for accountability.
And another powerful
line here is this, quote,
"Let people show you who they are."
End quote.
In team settings, this becomes clarity.
If someone consistently under delivers,
believe the pattern.
If someone steps up, acknowledge it.
Let the data, not
emotion, guide those decisions.
She also emphasizes
that leaders must manage
their reactions first, saying, quote,
"The only behavior you can
truly control is your own."
End quote.
Now that echoes
throughout this whole book,
but stepping back doesn't
mean you're disengaging.
It means shifting control to clarity.
Expectations should be clear.
Boundaries should be defined,
but hovering, that erodes trust.
So zooming out to the entire book now,
the heart of the let
them theory is simple,
but it's transformative.
When you stop trying to
control everyone else's behavior,
you reclaim your energy.
You stop reacting and you start choosing.
Let them protect your peace.
Then the let me, it reclaims your power.
And together, they
create emotional maturity,
the kind that changes relationships,
parenting, work, and self-confidence.
So here it is, your Friday takeaway.
Release control, own your response,
and lead your life and your teams
with clarity instead of control.
And overall, remember to
let them and then let me.
All right?
Well, today, middle names and all,
you're allowed to show up fully today
and let them do whatever they may.
Attack your Friday
with energy, confidence,
and just a little
less micromanaging maybe.
Well, now it is time for the prize
from the bottom of the cereal box,
the morning cereal
trivia question of the day,
Friday edition, here it is.
What kind of edible
creatures are Malepkes,
Komotos, and Bailons?
All right?
Now, I know I'm gonna get
a lot of people telling me
I'm saying that wrong and I know it,
so I'm just already saying it right now.
Feel free to let me know.
All right, well, thanks for listening
to morning cereal today and this week.
We will see you back here on Monday
for the answer to the trivia question
and of course, more sugar for your soul.
