Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

In solemn awe they bowed in prayer, repeating the assurance,
“Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it you.
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in My name: ask, and ye shall receive,
that your joy may be full.” John 16:23, 24 – Steps to Christ, pg. 74
I had no friends, not one. As a fourth grader, friends were
very important. My church had no children my age. They were either
too young or too old for me. Life consisted of hanging out with my
brother’s friends and my parents, but I had a longing to have a best
friend.
One night, I knelt on the side of my bed and implored God to
give me a friend. I went to bed with the confidence that God would
provide me a friend the next day at noon.
The sun illuminated my room the next morning, and my prayer
was still on my mind. Later, my mom dropped me off at our local
church VBS program. As soon as I entered the church, kids swarmed
around me. My mom got me settled into a group, and our group leader
took us through many different activities. Throughout the day one
thought burned in my mind: Is God going to give me my best friend?
All the kids were grouped into one big gym where we were fed
lunch. I stared intensely at the clock: five, four, three, two, one.
“Hey, my name is Eyva; do you want to be my friend?”
I gazed at her for what seemed like a second to me, but like
five minutes to her.
“Um… are you okay?” she asked with a puzzled expression.
“Yes, I want to be your friend!” I exclaimed.
From then on we have remained friends.
God can do anything! Whatever you ask that is within His will,
He will gladly do. He provided me with a lifetime friend. Whatever I ask
in His name, I will receive, that my joy may be full.
