Hero Files is a kids podcast where sisters Curie & Yeva explore fictional characters and ask one big question: what really makes a hero?
Through stories, discussion, and imagination, each episode turns reading into thoughtful conversation.
Hello.
Hello everyone.
Today is the second to last
lesson of how to own your story.
So I decided to change stuff up today.
You guess what the lesson will
be about, but don't worry,
you'll have clues, of course.
So the first hint will be a quote
when life gives you lemons, make
orange juice and leave the whole
world wondering how you did it.
The second quote, no, not the quote.
The second hint is a
picture with warts on it.
A cat with you can do this.
And the last and final hint is
a picture smiling and chewy.
Full and happy girl now.
Can you guess what it is?
Being happy.
That's very close.
Technically it is being happy,
but happy is an emotion, and
this thing is an attitude.
So now what do you think about it?
I know Being positive.
Yeah, being positive.
Well, okay, so today we're going
to learn how to stay positive
even when things are hard.
Now what actually is positivity?
The simple answer is happiness,
but the more certified and more
complicated answer is the practice of
being or a tendency to be positive.
We're optimistic in attitude, the
presence rather than absence of a
certain substance condition or feature.
So as my EOR teacher always says, you
first have to karate shop that question.
Um, even though this
really isn't a question.
But still, it's something you can analyze.
So let's talk about the
first definition First.
Well, the practice of something
implies that you choose to do
this thing because you want to be
good at it, so you practice it.
Um, I guess you could
think of it as a skill.
You learn that better, you
and the people around you.
For example, my sister practices
being really nice to everyone she
knows and she talks and smiles
at everyone every single day.
So that's a practice she chooses to do.
And my sister.
She's really nice and she always shares
with people and she's really generous.
So that's another practice
thing to practice.
Okay, well this is
technically just positivity.
Um, uh, positivity and
optimistic is the same thing.
Um, if you're positive, then that
means you're an optimistic person.
If you're not positive, then that
means you're a negative person,
which means you are a pessimist.
But what if you're in the middle?
Well, then I guess you're just a realist.
A realist I think is a person who doesn't.
Just thinks about what?
Like the real thing?
I think.
I think.
Okay.
I only researched on
optimist and pessimist.
Well, an optimist I already told
you is basically when you're happy
and positive, I'll pessimist.
It's just when you're sad and drippy
and depressing and sad, maybe like you.
Okay.
Now if you wanna know if you're an
optimist or a pessimist, then you
can take this very simple test.
Now you probably know, like when I tell
you what, most of you probably already
know this, so you, you could skip over it
if you want to, but if you don't or you
want to look at it again, then listen up.
So I have a glass of water filled halfway.
Now, how would you describe it?
Um, think for a moment and
pause the video if needed.
So what did you think of?
Mm,
it's halfway full.
It's halfway full.
Okay.
Well, what did you think of?
I didn't think of anything because
I'm, I'm asking you guys this.
Oh, well, okay.
The results.
If you said halfway full,
then congratulations.
You are an optimist.
If you said it's halfway empty,
then you are a pessimist.
But why?
Okay.
We're going to that.
But if you're pessimist, it is okay,
because that's what we're trying to
fix in this video, unless you don't
wanna fix it now, basically, pessimist.
They think of all the bad outcomes.
So, um, okay, pretend
it is raining right now.
Um, pessimists would
think, oh, it's raining.
We can't go outside anymore.
Well, optimist thinks of what's
there and makes the best of it so.
Basically they would be
like, um, it's raining.
Well now we gotta go play
inside with my family.
So they make the best out of everything.
Um, that's why they choose halfway
full, because they look at the
water and think that the water's
there, and it already made the best
effort it could to be halfway full.
So optimist thinks of what's there.
So if you're an optimist, yay.
Okay.
Now the half filled glass of water
is the literal meaning of the
second definition of positivity.
It says.
That po uh, okay, wait.
It says that, uh, basically positive
people thought about the presence of the
water, not the absence of the other half.
Basically, the presence rather
than the absence of a certain
substance condition or feature.
Um.
Now for the book example, because this
is a podcast or like video about books,
um, Ann of Green Gables Ann of Green
Gables was my favorite series for a long
time and, and the main character of the
book is the most positive book here, jar.
I, I think I will ever know.
She thinks of all the good
stuff and never the bad, and
she affects everyone around her.
Um, so that, um, it turns green
gable into a joyful household and all
her friends into more happy people.
Ann has a difficult life at the beginning.
Basically, she's an orphan
and feels unwanted when she
first arrives at Green Gables.
Even when Marilla, the person
who eventually adopts her is
isn't sure about keeping her.
Anna.
Anne doesn't give up or become negative.
Instead, in that time, Anne uses
her imagination to see beauty
everywhere and stays hopeless.
Hope.
Hope, hope.
Sorry.
Hopeful.
Even when things go wrong and tries
to improve herself after making
mistakes, do you try to improve
yourself after making the mistakes?
Yeah.
You do.
Gimme an example.
Um, like when I was small, um.
Like I remember.
Wait, gimme a sec. Well, okay.
Well, um, I try to improve myself.
Oh wait.
Yeah.
I remember when I was small, I used
to, like, when I wanted to go to
the restroom, I wanna go and then I
just ended up with being my pants.
Yeah, everyone does that.
So when you were small,
I can't do that anymore.
If you peed your pants
and you felt embarrassed.
No, actually, like when I was small,
I knew that I was supposed to go
there, but I didn't go there because,
well, yeah.
Well, if you were lazy.
And you didn't know, and then
you felt embarrassed, then
you try to improve yourself.
So next time you don't pee your
pants, so that's fixing your mistakes.
Um, staying positive
doesn't mean life is easy.
It means you don't let
hard things stop you.
And now for the activity of the day,
find a positive quote online and share
it with your families and friends.
Like the one I shared at the startup
class is my favorite positivity to
grow, by the way, it's like, it starts
with when life gives you lemons, but
like there's a lot more phrases to it.
So I found this one, it's like
make orange juice and leave the
world wondering how you did it.
But I think in the normal phrase,
this, when life gives you lemons,
make lemonade, um, and there's.
More like different phrases of this
kind of positivity quote, but you can
go and find your own favorite one.
So what's a positive
positivity quote that you like?
Well, I mean, um, in my classroom, my
teacher would have lots of positive
coats taped up on a wall, and I
know, and I know a bunch of them,
so which one and one I like is.
Um, think positive and
positive things will happen.
Yeah.
So if you think positively, like the
rain's raining, but I will go inside and
play with my family, or maybe the rain's
raining and it'll help the plants grow.
Yeah.
And it'll help the plants grow.
And then when the plants grow and
make your garden more beautiful, so
positive things will happen to you now.
That's all for today, so Bye everyone.
Thank you.
Bye.
