Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

There is joy and satisfaction in the service of God. – Steps to Christ,

Another successful first campout was about to end, and the
majority of the student body was now departing from Long Beach via
the barge. A few of us had stayed behind and were waiting for the
next ride out in about twenty minutes. Along with my friend Miclain,
I strolled across the beach looking for some excitement. Near a cliff
at the end of the beach, I noticed my friends coming out of the water
soaking wet; they had been cliff jumping. Thrilled, we joined them for
the next round.
As we climbed to the precipice, I realized we were a little
higher than I had anticipated. Without hesitation, Grace sprinted
off the cliff into the icy cold water with a splash. Paul went next and
landed better than a Russian ballerina performing the Nutcracker by
Tchaikovsky. Now it was my turn. Unnerved by my limited athletic
skills, I wondered if I should actually do this.
“Dude, it’s honestly not that high,” Paul tried to convince me
after noticing the look of terror on my face. “Just make sure to jump far
out, so you won’t hit the rocks,” he chuckled.
Thanks, man, that was encouraging. I really appreciate it. I
thought to myself.
When I eventually jumped in, adrenaline rushed through
my veins, and my soul screamed for more. That was awesome!
Exhilarated, I swam to the beach for a second round.
This earth is weighed down and paralyzed with despair and
dread. To experience euphoria, we have to overcome fear. If I had
the same attitude toward serving my God as I initially had about cliff
jumping, I would be robbing myself of the joy of serving Him. I long to
experience the true euphoria of life that only comes from fully jumping
in and engaging in the service of God.
