Welcome, dear listeners. Today our journey through Tanya brings us to Chapter 32, Likutei Amarim. Here, the Alter Rebbe talks about Ahavat Yisrael, love for fellow Jews, in a way that affects our everyday life.
In this chapter, the Alter Rebbe describes Ahavat Yisrael as "a great general principle in the Torah". It's the idea that we should love our fellow Jews as we love ourselves. We are, after all, all part of one entity, one singular soul.
To bring this lofty concept down to earth, consider this. Think of your body. When one part of the body hurts, the whole body responds. It doesn't matter if it's a big part like the heart or a small part like the little finger. The whole body feels the pain, and the whole body works to heal the hurt part.
That's how it should be with us and our fellow Jews. When one Jew is hurting, all Jews should feel that pain. We should all work to help, to heal. Not because it's a nice thing to do, or because it's the right thing to do. But because that's what parts of a single body do for each other.
And when we live this way, we fulfill the Torah's commandment to love our fellow as ourselves. We make the world a better place, a G-dlier place. And we bring ourselves and the world closer to the ultimate redemption, may it come speedily in our days.
Thank you for joining us today. May we all strive to live with Ahavat Yisrael, and through it, draw ourselves, our fellow Jews, and the whole world, closer to G-d.
