Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

If we take counsel with our doubts and fears, or try to solve everything
that we cannot see clearly, before we have faith, perplexities will only
increase and deepen. But if we come to God, feeling helpless and
dependent, as we really are, and in humble, trusting faith make known
our wants to Him whose knowledge is infinite... He can and will attend
to our cry, and will let light shine into our hearts. – Steps to Christ, pp.

I clenched the handlebars as the blood rushed through my
face, in an effort to gather up courage. Looking onto the narrow trail,
the pressure of the tight helmet on my head impairing my vision, I
vaguely caught sight of my friends swiftly soaring through the trees
with ease. Breathing in, I summoned the last bit of courage I could
draw from within me, and dove straight onto the trail with anticipation
grinding at my ready heels.
It was my first time riding Kevin’s trail. I was curious to
experience what other students spoke in regards to this trail, so I
decided to join them one Friday afternoon. In the beginning, I was able
to control the movement enough to keep me from getting off the path.
However, this being my first time riding it, I had absolutely no idea of
the obstacles that could possibly be ahead. Suddenly, after a sharp
turn, a steep jump came into view. I hastily jerked the bars towards the
side trail, and pulled on the brakes simultaneously. The exaggerated
reflex sent me over the bars and off the trail into a tree.
Unharmed, I checked the bike while perplexedly considering
the reason this had happened. My beginner skills and the low quality
of the bike combined were partly accountable. However, the biggest
factor was that I did not know the trail.
Not knowing what to expect in life may leave me fearful
of future events. This uncertainty pushes me to try to prepare for
anything that may happen. However, over time I learned that my
intuition is not to be trusted. God knows what the future holds. When
I am connected with Him, I do not need to be anxious. Whatever
happens will be according to His will.
