Hey. Welcome back to your best t one d year ever. What? It's mine. No.
Neil:It's yours. Your best t one d year ever. My name is Neil Greathouse. You might know me as the b d's on Instagram or TikTok or, that's about it. I mean, I'm on x.
Neil:I'm on Twitter, but never. How about never? YouTube? Yeah? YouTube shorts?
Neil:Yeah? Over there? Listen. This is, March 26. This is episode 18.
Neil:We're talking about some hidden clues, what we didn't expect to learn from writing all this stuff down. And welcome to the podcast. If you got five minutes and it doesn't matter if you're, you know, you're just sitting back drinking a cup of coffee or you're procrastinating on something really, really important. Or maybe you're realizing that this tracking challenge has been less of a neat spreadsheet and more of a full blown Lara Croft expedition. See what I did there?
Neil:We we started just writing things down. Now all of a sudden, we're out there dodging blood sugar traps, unlocking hidden patterns. We're realizing there's way more going on beneath the surface than than what we actually thought. So today, we're talking about the biggest surprises from the month. The things that we didn't expect to learn that now we can't unsee it.
Neil:Right? We I can't unsee it. Sometimes, the most valuable clues are not the ones that we were looking for. And and just like in Tomb Raider, sometimes they're hiding in plain sight. Okay?
Neil:So we went into this challenge thinking that we were just tracking carbs, insulin, and and numbers. Here are some things that you actually discovered. These are yours. These, that you have sent me these. This is fascinating.
Neil:Somebody said, My blood sugar starts rising even before I eat first thing in the morning. What? Hello, feet on the floor effect. You know what I'm talking about. Wink, wink.
Neil:Yeah. That's a big one. Somebody else said, hey. I have been undercounting the snacks that I eat on the regular more than I thought. Hello.
Neil:Yeah. That handful of pretzels, not 10 carbs, more like 40. Hello. Somebody else said exercise doesn't always do what I expect it to do. Yes.
Neil:Cardio versus weight training, it's a totally different blood sugar impact. Huge win. I'm so proud. Somebody else said the more that I track, the more predictable things start to feel. I'm like, woah.
Neil:Woah. Woah. It's like having a map instead of wandering around blindfolded through a maze. There was this there was this study that that, scientists did where you blindfold people and and let them walk out in a field and try and walk in a straight line and nobody does it. They all walk random crazy patterns and they started tracking it.
Neil:It's so funny how we just wander around blindfolded when it comes to our our type one diabetes sometimes. So we started tracking things, and it revealed stuff that we weren't even looking for. It's like realizing the real treasure wasn't just the artifacts, but it was the knowledge we gained along the way. What? This is an unhinged episode.
Neil:I'm I'm sorry. Actually, I don't apologize. So what do we do with these clues moving forward? First of all, keep the clues handy. Right?
Neil:If even if you stop tracking daily, remember what you've learned. Do a a quick mental check-in, like, hey, hang on. Do I need to pre bolus earlier for this meal? Like, that goes a long way. I'm clapping my hands while I say that.
Neil:Step number two, track for answers. Don't track for perfection. If something feels off for a few days, track it, see what jumps out. But think about it like this. You're never gonna get to perfection.
Neil:It's never gonna happen. People who don't have type one diabetes don't have a perfect CGM line, so you shouldn't be aiming one aiming for one either. And step number three, don't ignore the small wins. I mean, honestly, think about this. Like, maybe your post meal blood sugar spikes are lower.
Neil:Cha ching, like that's a win. That's a win. Maybe you feel less surprised by random highs and lows than you used to. That is a huge win. Or maybe, just maybe, this is all starting to feel a little bit easier.
Neil:That's a huge, huge win. So the biggest win out of this whole month is we're paying attention. Right? We're we're we're looking out for ourselves. Even though this tracking might be wrapping up here in a week, we're gonna leave with some real knowledge about how our blood sugar works.
Neil:We're making adjustment based on facts, not just feelings. Remember, that's huge. We're not as confused as we were in February, and we actually understand our numbers in a way that'll help us. It won't stress us out. So you're not doing a bad job.
Neil:You're doing a difficult job. And this challenge, you're crushing it, and I'm proud of you. You could still get that free one sheet journal from Risley Health. It's free. It's on my website, and you can get it through the link in my bio on social media if you want it.
Neil:New episodes every Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Remember, you got this. Okay? I'm proud of you. Nobody remembers easy.
Neil:What you're doing is pretty much incredible. You're you're out there, killer. Just crushing it. Look at you. Look at you.
Neil:I'm excited to hear about your best t one d year ever.
