Saddleback Kids Church At Home

Are you good at sharing? At letting other people go first? Even your brother or sister?!?! Humility is letting others go first and thinking of others before yourself. Jesus, the Son of God, and king of the universe has a great story about weddings, seats, and humility. Let's check it out!

Show Notes

What does pizza have to do with humility? Also... what is humility?

Pizza is our all time favorite food. And to be honest, we love pizza so much. No matter where it's from, we love them all. Any of you feel the same?

In today's episode, Jerry thinks of his friend Zoe and Kara first and gives them an opportunity to rank some pizzas. That's showing some true humility. By thinking of others before himself, Jerry reminded us that even if we feel jealous or want the best thing or want to go first, we can take a moment to do a vibe check and choose to think about others. And we can do it with a good attitude and a smile. If not bitter or angry, we should be happy to think about their feelings and give them the chance to go first or have something they want.

Friends, we have so much fun hanging out each week, singing and learning about what it means to do a vibe check of our lives. Remember, when you start to feel like you want to go first or you want the best thing, you can do a vibe check and think about others. That's one of the best attitudes to have. So thanks for joining us at Church at home today!

Remember, you can check out our campus locations to find a saddleback kid near you and come visit us sometime. We'd love to see you there. Don't forget we have some awesome activity sheets, coloring pages, and even some stuff for your parents online@saddlebackkids.com. Check it out and we'll see you here next week.

Hey friends, welcome back to another awesome week of church at home. I'm Kayla, and I am so excited to be here with you today as we continue our series called Vibe Checks, where we are checking our attitudes and actions to see how they aligned up to the attitudes and actions God wants us to have. Our Bible verse today reminds us why the Bible is the best place to look to find out more about those attitudes God wants from us. It's found in two, Timothy 316 and 17. And it says all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. The Bible is meant to teach us to do what is right, including the right kind of attitude we can have toward others. And before we learn more about what that attitude is, let's remind ourselves of the importance of God's Word and sing this song together.

All Scriptures and if you swipe to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our life. What is wrong in our life? Incorrect. When we are wrong, God uses it to prepare and equip people to do every good work. Uh.

Did you notice that last part of the song? God uses his word, the Bible, to prepare us so that we can do good things. And one of the good things God wants us to do is to put others first. We're going to take a look at a story in the Bible where Jesus actually teaches about having an attitude of humility. You see, Jesus wanted people to take a moment and do a vibe check and think about others instead of themselves. Let's see what Jesus says about having an attitude that puts others first. Watch this.

Stories of the Bible jesus teaches about humility. This is Jesus, who is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. While Jesus was on Earth, he taught everyone about God's love. He healed many people from their sickness, performed many miracles like calming storms, and even raised people from the dead. Woah uh, there were a group of Jewish leaders called the Pharisees who heard Jesus speak often. One of the Pharisees named Simon asked Jesus to have dinner with him.

Come on over.

Oh, okay, sounds good. So Jesus went to Simon's home for dinner and everyone was watching Jesus closely. Oh, hang on. Jesus noticed that all the people at the dinner were trying to sit at the best seats at the table, so he told them this story. Uh, when someone invites you to a wedding feast, don't take the most important seat.

Hey, how's it going?

The host may have invited someone more important than you.

Excuse me?

And if you are sitting in the most important seat. The host will come to you and say, give this man your seat.

Oh, I'm um, sorry.

Then you will begin to move down to the last place, and you will be very embarrassed. So when you are invited, go sit in a seat that is not important. Then the host will come to you and say, friend, we have a better place for you. Then all the other guests will respect you. Everyone who makes himself great will be made humble. But the person who makes himself humble will be made great.

If I was there at that dinner and I knew I could sit next to the guests of honor, I would probably be fighting for the best seat, too. But we saw Jesus do what he does best and tell a story. And in that story, he is telling us to let others have the best seat at the table. When we do, we are seen as first in his eyes because we have the right attitude and did the right thing. But that idea of humility doesn't only apply to seats at a table. It's an attitude of thinking about others, and that's something we can do anytime. That reminds me of our big idea. It says, I can choose to have a good attitude when I think of others. We can think of others when we have patience and let someone else go first. When we let our friends talk before we get a turn, or even by sharing our things with others. It's natural to think of ourselves first and want the best for ourselves. But we can do a vibe check and check our attitudes when we're feeling like we want to go first or we want the best thing. And instead, we can think of others and do something for them with a smile on our face. Let's check out our next video to see what food Jerry will review next and what he has to teach us about humility. Check this out.

Um, hey there, everybody. My name's Jerry, and I've got more opinions than I know what to do with. I've been a foodie all my life, so I figured, well, now it's time to start sharing some of my food knowledge. We all have foods that we think are great. So to help show you my favorites, I've created my very own rating scale. Here on Jerry Reviews Food, I will taste test all kinds of food and share with you what I think is the very best and worst of everything. Get it? Got it. Good. Now let's eat. What's up, Jerry Reviews fans, as you already know, I'm Jerry, and I like to eat. But out of everything, there's nothing I like to eat more than pizza. Pizza is pizza. Uh, I love it. You love it? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles love it. Today, I've brought in a few of my friends to take a look at the top pizza chains and rank them from worst to best. I've been wanting to do a YouTube collab and meet up with another channel for a while, so I thought this could be the perfect opportunity. Most importantly, I wanted to be generous and share one of my favorite things with some fellow YouTubers. Let's welcome our guests. Meet Zoe and Karis, two of my good friends, and a couple of culinary experts themselves.

Hey, Jerry. Thanks for having us.

It's great to have you here. I wanted to make this episode just a little bit different. Less about what I have to say and more about what you girls think about the pizza. I'll weigh in just a little bit. Okay, but we want to hear from you, too.

Awesome.

What pizzas did you bring for us to try today?

You have four pizzas to try pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa John's, and Little Sieges. We only got pepperoni from each brand to keep things safe.

Oh, that's smart. Okay, how about we take it from the top? Let's grab some Pizza Hoods.

I have them already.

Perfect. Thank you so much. Okay, how about all together? Ready? One, two, three. Maybe it's just because you can get Pizza Hut at Taco Bell, but I kind of always thought a Pizza Hut likes the Taco Bell Pizza Hut.

That's profound.

Oh, thanks. Zoe, what do you think?

I grew up on Pizza Hut, but I haven't had any. But today I'm really feeling it.

Wow. Caress.

It's not bad. I think I need to try the others first before I form an opinion.

You know what? Fair enough. Onto Domino's. I'll take these, girls. Thank you. Okay, we're ready. Here we go. 1230kay. What do you think?

The crust is so dry and bland, but I always end up eating five spices.

That's so true. I don't know what it is.

I'm not feeling it. I'm sorry. This is a pretty boring spice of pizza.

All right, I'll take this away. Next up, Papa John's. Okay. Okay, are you ready? Who's going to count down?

Me.

Okay, go for it. Okay. What do you think?

I feel like without the cheesy crustace? Is there anything special? I do miss the cheesy crust, but this is still better than Domino's.

I'm kind of on the fence today, but this isn't really about me. It's time for our final contestant, Little Caesars. Here we go. All right, Karen, how about you count us down on this?

1123.

You know, I feel like Little Caesars will always be the best bang for your buck. I mean, for only $5 for a whole pizza, that's hard to beat.

I think I would rather just spend the extra $5 and get something better. This seems like you paid $5 for it.

Um, nothing nice to say about letters, Caesars, huh? Well, are we ready to rank them? How about we clear the tables and we'll rank them? Here we go. Okay, so here's how this is going to work. We're going to rank them from worst to best. Fourth place is going to get zero points. Third place is going to get one point. Second place is going to get two points. And first place, we'll give them four points. We're going to combine your scores, and we'll see who wins.

Okay, from, um what's the best? I would have to say Little Caesars. Papa John's Pizza and Domino's.

Oh, that's good ranking. Caress.

Little Caesars, domino's Pizza and Papa John.

Uh, wow. Okay, so if I've done my math right, that means Little Caesar got only zero points. Not so good. Domino's with five points. Okay, we got Pizza Hut with four points, and that means Papa John's also got five points. We have a tie, so that means okay, let's put fourth place over here because that's settled. We got third place. It's Pizza Hut. Okay, so is it okay with you girls if I help settle this tie? Okay, so I got Papa John's, and I got Domino's. I think I'm voting for Papa John's. Um, so that means Domino's second, papa John's first. I think I'm good with that. How about you girls? Yes. I think that Papa John's has a better crust, and that's why I voted for it.

Yeah.

Thank you both so much for helping me out today. As a thank you, how about you girls can keep pizzas? I know. Okay, let's grab those pizzas. Yeah. Okay.

Thanks so much.

You're welcome. Bye, girls.

Bye.

Well, that was a nice change of pace. I'm so used to making the show all about me. My name is in the title, after all. But it was a lot of fun working with friends and sharing something. I love pizza, of course, with Zoe and Karis. And the best part is, Zoe and Carrie have their own YouTube channel, so I thought this would be a great way to give them some exposure and give them a chance to get some more subscribers. So make sure you hit that subscribe button below. It feels pretty good to think about others. You know, that's something I love about Jesus. Jesus always thought of others. He even teaches us all about putting other people first and thinking of them even above yourself. It's called humility. In the Bible, Jesus said that it's always best to give other people the better seat at the table. When we do, we're seen as first in his eyes because we have the right attitude and are doing the right thing. But why was he talking about seats at the table, you ask? Well, to the people Jesus was talking to, where you sat at the table mattered and even showed how important you were. It was tempting to want to always take the best seat for yourself, but that's not what Jesus says is most important. Showing love is. And one way we show love is by thinking of others. I don't know about you, but sometimes I need to do a vibe check when I start thinking about myself too much. This whole show is awesome, but if I'm not careful, it can get to my head. That's why I wanted to share with Zoe and Kara today to support and encourage them and even share a snack. Those are some simple but easy ways you can think about others, too. You might be surprised how it actually makes you feel when you share with others or think about them. It really can turn your attitude around to be generous and kind to others. I hope you find a chance to put into action this week, whether it's letting someone else go before you in line or letting a sibling pick the movie for family night. Well, whatever it is, do it with good attitude. Thanks so much for watching. And thanks again to Zoe and Karen for helping me out today. I'll see you guys in the next week's episode. Bye.

Okay, that was amazing. Pizza is my all time favorite food. And to be honest, I love pizza so much. No matter where it's from, I love them all. Any of you feel the same? It was nice of Jerry to think of his friend Zoe and Kara first and give them an opportunity to choose the rankings of the pizzas. That's showing some true humility.
