As we continue reading in the Psalms, today we're gonna be reading from Psalm 76. God is honored in Judah. His name is great in Israel. Jerusalem is where he lives. Mount Zion is his home.
Morgan Teruel:There he has broken the fiery arrows of the enemy, the shields and swords and weapons of war. You are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting mountains. Our boldest enemies have been plundered. They lie before us in the sleep of death. No warrior could lift a hand against us.
Morgan Teruel:At the blast of your breath, oh God of Jacob, their horses and chariots lay still. No wonder you are greatly feared. Who can stand before you when your anger explodes? From heaven you sentenced your enemies. The earth trembled and stood silent before you.
Morgan Teruel:You stand up to judge those who do evil, oh God, and to rescue the oppressed of the earth. Human defiance only enhances your glory for you use it as a weapon. Make vows to the Lord your God and keep them. Let everyone bring tribute to the awesome one for he breaks the pride of princes and the Kings of the earth fear him. And reflecting upon this Psalm, one thing that stands out to me is the theme of protection.
Morgan Teruel:When we look at verses four and five, the fact that it says, you are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting mountains. Our boldest enemies have been plundered. They lie before us in the sleep of death. No warrior could lift a hand against us. I think that's a powerful image to remember in a life where we often feel vulnerable, where we often feel hurt and unsure of what to do with our own insecurities, our own offenses.
Morgan Teruel:God is a protector. And when we see that it says no warrior could lift a hand against us. I think that paints a beautiful picture of the kind of protector that he is. He is capable of such strength and so often he's restraining his strength, but he is capable of exercising mighty weapons. And I think that that leads us to a beautiful and reverent place where we can worship him as our protector and as our savior.
Morgan Teruel:So today, as we pray, I want to pray over that for you. Lord, we thank you that, you're a God who is capable of so much, yet you restrain your anger, even when it feels like we deserve your anger. Protection. Thank you for your promises. Thank you that your protection is strong, that there is a mightiness in your protection.
Morgan Teruel:We love you Lord and we pray that we would remember that today in moments where we feel scared or weak or vulnerable, God? Would we remember that you're our protector and would that Lord lead us to worshiping you more fully? Amen.
