Morgan Teruel:

As we continue reading through the Psalms together today, we'll be reading Psalm 75. We thank you, oh God. We give thanks because you are near. People everywhere tell of your wonderful deeds. God says, at the time I have planned, I will bring justice against the wicked.

Morgan Teruel:

When the earthquakes and its people live in turmoil, I am the one who keeps its foundations firm. I warned the proud, stop your boasting. I told the wicked, don't raise your fists. Don't raise your fists in defiance at the heavens or speak with such arrogance. For no one on earth from east or west or even from the wilderness should raise a defiant fist.

Morgan Teruel:

It is God alone who judges. He decides who will rise and who will fall. For the Lord holds a cup in his hand that is full of foaming wine mixed with spices. He pours out the wine and judgment and all the wicked must drink it, draining it to the dregs. But as for me, I will always proclaim what God has done.

Morgan Teruel:

I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. For God says, I will break the strength of the wicked, but I will increase the power of the godly. There's such a celebration in this Psalm as we reflect on Psalm 75, yet it also holds true to this theme that we've already seen in many Psalms of looking for justice, of questioning when God will come through, of wondering how he will exercise the strength that he's capable of, the might that he's capable of. Yet here we see celebration and gratitude that he has come through in many ways. I think it's just important to recognize and maybe remind ourselves that God operates in his own time.

Morgan Teruel:

He doesn't operate according to what we expect. We don't even see the full picture and this is me telling myself. And we're reminded that he operates in his own time at the end of this Psalm in verse 10. For God says, will break the strength of the wicked but I will increase the power of the godly. This is a promise that justice will be served at the right time and that the godly will be uplifted.

Morgan Teruel:

He will increase the power of the godly. So it's sort of as an exhortation to keep going, to keep remaining faithful because he will come through. So as we pray today, I wanna pray for patience and I wanna pray for strength and sustainment of this journey. Lord, we just recognize here in this moment that we don't always understand how you work, why you work the way that you do and the timing that you work. But ultimately, Lord, we want to surrender to that because you are God and we're not.

Morgan Teruel:

Would you allow us to have patience today as we go about with curiosities or wonderings of why things are the way that they are. Would you remind us who you are and that you are the God that comes through. You're the God that is faithful and you're the God that is strong and just help us to remember that today when we forget. Amen.
