[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much for watching.
[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the Safety Consultant Podcast.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the show where I teach you the business of being a safety consultant.
[SPEAKER_02]: We talk about ocean compliance.
[SPEAKER_02]: We talk about risk in general.
[SPEAKER_02]: Interview some cool people.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm doing this for a while.
[SPEAKER_02]: In this episode is an anniversary of search.
[SPEAKER_02]: Swords.
[SPEAKER_02]: I started episode one of the Safety Consultant Podcast.
[SPEAKER_02]: March 8th, 2019.
[SPEAKER_02]: So as you're listening to me now, we are on March 15th of 2026.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's been a while.
[SPEAKER_02]: So how are we going to do in the 7th year of starting this and I'm calling it season 6, which I probably should be calling it season 7.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: I guess
[SPEAKER_02]: I called the seasons like when I completed the year so it was kind of like the year behind But anyway, let's go season six because that's I've been doing it for that.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want three of you guys off So we are beginning season six, but I started as actual podcast My very first episode was March 8th 2019, so this episode is just kind of a me reflecting on what I've learned over these last seven years
[SPEAKER_02]: All right game, so just hang tight.
[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Safety Consultant Show with Sheldon primus, where we blend safety sparks with business brilliance and the pitch of Sheldon's signature wit, whether you're a safety pro of fresh face consultant, or just safety curious, get ready for a show that will educate, entertain and elevate your safety game.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's dive into the art of consulting with your safety shirt for himself, Sheldon primus.
[SPEAKER_01]: This episode is powered by Safety FM.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, all good morning.
[SPEAKER_02]: And as I explained here, this is the show that I teach you to be a safety consultant.
[SPEAKER_02]: We talk about OSHA compliance and general risk.
[SPEAKER_02]: We talk about the business of being in safety air quotes.
[SPEAKER_02]: I do a lot of stuff, I've got to get interviews and everything, but today what we're doing is we're going down the reminition trail, we're reminiscing and I can't reminisce or even go into much without just saying a very hardful thing to my buddy, J. Allen and Safety FM.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would still be podcasting, but it wouldn't be the same without you guys, then I appreciate you, Melissa, and honestly, you guys have been awesome friends to me throughout the years, and I truly, truly, truly am grateful for our friendships, and also for...
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, safety FM.
[SPEAKER_02]: And those you're listening to be a safety FM, you've done the right thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what you should be doing.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's where you should be.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, welcome again.
[SPEAKER_02]: So let's take you through this journey.
[SPEAKER_02]: The journey that I started was
[SPEAKER_02]: In March of 2019, seven years ago, I got basically, I finished writing of my safety consulting book, which is called seven steps to start a profitable safety consulting business.
[SPEAKER_02]: And after I finished that book, I...
[SPEAKER_02]: I basically was thinking I should do a podcast because I was answering the same questions over and over again about how to become a consultant, especially for my students and the class that I've teach as a contract instructor, certificate of occupational safety, specialist and certificate of occupational safety manager.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I do the OSHA Training Institute Education Center training over for Mid-South, OTI, E.C., and whenever I get done, a lot of time students are asking, how do you do what you do?
[SPEAKER_02]: So eventually enough students started asking that question I wrote the book and then I decided to list you a podcast.
[SPEAKER_02]: So my first few episodes was based on the book.
[SPEAKER_02]: So episode one obviously was an introduction of me and then the following episodes.
[SPEAKER_02]: leading all the way up to Episode 6, Episode 7, I'm looking at it right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you want to join me in this journey, go to safetyconsultantapodcast.com so you can consultantpodcast.com.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I got them all the way up to basically just telling people how to become like right through the chapters of my book.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then the episode five and how I would do it back then is SC1 SC2 SC5.
[SPEAKER_02]: And recently I did that was because of Pat Flynn, some of you may not know, smart passive income with Pat Flynn.
[SPEAKER_02]: Pat Flynn was one of the people who was the first influencer of mine to get me thinking about podcasting.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he basically has a smart passive income podcast that's been around forever.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he teaches people about that and even has a podcasting.
[SPEAKER_02]: teaching program which I didn't take but he influenced me and the way that he did his episodes and SPI is SPI and then the number so I did the same thing that my midter did my digital bent to work he'll never know.
[SPEAKER_02]: Next up in San Diego I should try to just see if I could even entertain meeting him in AOA.
[SPEAKER_02]: SC5 was telling people how to
[SPEAKER_02]: become OSHA trainers for the 10, and 30 hours, and then my very first interview was a consultant, a friend of mine, David Daley, and that was SC6, and I was like, oh, this is cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: So basically what I did was a live coach and call with him.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's another area where I learned that from a previous podcast.
[SPEAKER_02]: I used to listen to a husband, a wife, a team, and I don't think they still do that podcast anymore.
[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, the use of live coaching calls about marketing.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I just said, it else could do a live coaching call about consulting, so I helped they vowed on that one and telling them about pricing and structuring their proposal and everything else.
[SPEAKER_02]: Back then, my episodes were about an hour and when I did interviews, sometimes it was like an hour and a half.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then I went into teaching people how to write proposals and I've done that throughout the years.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then my second interview, SC9, happens to be with a former student of mine, Alan Wafford.
[SPEAKER_02]: He, guys, will know him as diary of a bald man, his podcast is like excellent and he's truly like just killing it at the Game of Podcasting and as an influencer So he was my second interview and followed right after by Dr. Jay Allen no longer the man, the myth, the legend itself
[SPEAKER_02]: me and Dr. Jay or episode 10 and it's looking at this like wow and the the reason why we chose episode 10 is because at the time I got my 10th podcast that's when I was going to be introduced to safety FM.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he just wanted to make sure they had some legs on this thing and April 15th, 2019 is when I had episode 10 and we got on safety FM You know with the batch run and it does help as well.
[SPEAKER_02]: Those of you who are going to think about podcasting
[SPEAKER_02]: You won't get about 10 and then release your podcast because you want people to be able to hit subscribe and have something else So if you only have one podcast and release it People aren't going to be prone to hit that subscribe button and since we're talking about it Statistically speaking many of you guys have not hit discursus subscribe button for me or the follow whatever it is on your
[SPEAKER_02]: podcast, device, your pod catcher.
[SPEAKER_02]: So please do that right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be like a great way for you guys to help me celebrate my 7th year podcasting and my 6th season beginning.
[SPEAKER_02]: So please, please, please.
[SPEAKER_02]: It may make a great, great deal to me.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you were to follow me right now or hit
[SPEAKER_02]: The subscribe button, whatever it says on your podcast, chaser for those of you that are listening to this episode on the Safety Consultant YouTube channel, which is youtube.com for its latch at Safety Consultant.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then I'll go ahead and hit the subscribe button for me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'll mean a whirl for me.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I know you guys you're listening to me while you're cleaning the house or whatever you've got it up on your YouTube channel I appreciate you Think we're right around 6,000 followers right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're just underneath So diary of a bold man Alan was episode 9 and then episode 10 was Dr. Jay Alan Followed by some more episodes Some people that I've lost contact with or We just have not been connecting with as much
[SPEAKER_02]: But I did a punch in episodes during that time period.
[SPEAKER_02]: I even did some tips on instructional designing in SC14.
[SPEAKER_02]: Abby Ferry was SC15.
[SPEAKER_02]: Jay Wuffington.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was episode 13 from some at safety group.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I had really good people on the channel.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I did many OSHA compliance masterclass to help educate you on that, and that was in episode 19 just to help you about that.
[SPEAKER_02]: At that time, I used to do music episodes, so you do not know that I write music, and when I first started, one of the first things that you would hear come into the podcast,
[SPEAKER_02]: was one of my songs that I titled Bruce Lee and the reason why I titled that is because it starts with a hi-yah kind of a chop, a karate thing so honestly I don't play that any more but back then I would play the Bruce Lee and in the background on those episodes you would also hear a song that I didn't do but this is a song I had a
[SPEAKER_02]: So this was usually playing in the background of my episodes during that time period.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a song that got licensed to play, and I used to actually play all my episodes with this running in the background.
[SPEAKER_02]: I believe I did this for like the first year or first season, so you would hear this on a repeat basis underneath the podcast.
[SPEAKER_02]: Why?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like busy and help energize me, help me go in, and hopefully you didn't throw you guys off too much, but this was, you hear it in the early podcast episodes.
[SPEAKER_02]: So go back and see if you can solve it podcast.com.
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, that's what we used to hear in the background as I was doing my show.
[SPEAKER_02]: And again, I would do a music episode every now and then, so my first music episode was SC21 featuring my songs that I would produce and I'm going to scroll the
[SPEAKER_02]: and I was talking about email marketing, gave you some tips on travel and per DM and my mentor, writer Cobb, like I who got me into safety consulting in the way that I do it right now and he gave me some templates and all this stuff talked me through what I should do and still to this day, writer is one of the people I talked to when I need some help.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he was by episode 27 and writer is probably going to be out with his first podcast coming up pretty soon.
[SPEAKER_02]: So when he does, I'm definitely going to have him back because this episode was August 11th, 2019.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's been a while.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, we talked to a few people I've had a whole bunch of people on my show and episode 35 especially because I've had my wife on the show twice actually.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, the first time I talked to her was on.
[SPEAKER_02]: episode 35 and the reason why I wanted to is how's you starting your consulting business however your partner is they're in this business with you so you need to make sure that the two of you are on the same page and that you guys
[SPEAKER_02]: have a good relationship and rapport and everything else because not only you've got the they're trusting you with now making sure that you have enough money for the family and all that enough stuff but you're going to probably be home quite a bit especially if
[SPEAKER_02]: They are also working their own business like my wife is an author, so together We see each other all the time because we're full-time our viewers as well.
[SPEAKER_02]: So now, I don't remember the show.
[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about What's it's like to you know be a business owner because you know in her own business.
[SPEAKER_02]: I own mine
[SPEAKER_02]: So at that point, it was really good having her on.
[SPEAKER_02]: So over then, you can see as you're scrolling with me, you can see all the different episodes I had for that first year.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then I started doing some series.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the series, while first series that I did, was demystifying OSHA, four part series starting with episode 42, working all this way to episode 45.
[SPEAKER_02]: So again go to safety consultantpodcast.com and you'll be able to go through that series.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I did a holiday show with my wife again, and that was episode 46, or at least we So we did a holiday episode of out traditions and stuff like that.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the second time I had her on I help you guys out in the beginning of 2020 with tips for OSHA compliance that was writing Oaks of Compliance written programs, but 2020
[SPEAKER_02]: Didn't that sound ominous already in your brains?
[SPEAKER_02]: I interviewed my nephew that year too.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's episode 51 David Vasquez.
[SPEAKER_02]: He is the former press secretary for Governor Ron DeSantis.
[SPEAKER_02]: I worked on the state representative Bob Cortez for the state representative.
[SPEAKER_02]: The election campaign was also a part of
[SPEAKER_02]: the first president Trump election team.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I interviewed my nephew on that one.
[SPEAKER_02]: That was January 26, 2020.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then after that we had a bunch of people on and right between episode 55 and
[SPEAKER_02]: We were talking about psychological safety in that episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just really trying to...
[SPEAKER_02]: This Ariza, he was born Rachel Copeland, transitioned to Ari Copeland while working for Black and Vege, and just really talking about the transition process and how he felt safe at work or didn't.
[SPEAKER_02]: But in this case he did, because Black and Vege was awesome to him, and making sure that
[SPEAKER_02]: They supported him throughout the whole transition, so between the two episodes, there was a special announcement for COVID-19, March 1, 2020, and then, of course, like all of us listening here, life changed your net time period, and later on, throughout.
[SPEAKER_02]: The that period I've had a whole bunch of episodes about COVID-19, the teens of Iowa for consultants, finding opportunities for COVID-19, OSHA, with COVID-19.
[SPEAKER_02]: It just kind of really got our mind thinking.
[SPEAKER_02]: and then I did a two-part episode with a virtual round table with me, J. Wolfdon Abbey Ferry, the Kevin Yarbrow who owns a business partner of mine who retired with OSHA as a assistant area director of the Tampa office.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we did that in May of 1920, how about reopening the U.S. and then right after that, J. Allen came back,
[SPEAKER_02]: and talk to him.
[SPEAKER_02]: I dropped the numbers by then, so you can see all those episodes and have any numbers.
[SPEAKER_02]: I had Sam Goodwin on for the first time, the Hop Nerd.
[SPEAKER_02]: We have a two-port series there.
[SPEAKER_02]: And honestly, still some COVID stuff mixed in there there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, it took to, uh, my friends, like, one was, uh, power generation distribution, peat mash, buddy of mine, uh, we've been friends since we're teenagers, uh, Michael Hartley, if, uh, heave, have not heard of, um, um, I ain't tell, but I talked to him as well.
[SPEAKER_02]: and started really getting a bunch of interviews and for 2020, including interviews with Yellowbird, I'll Jill James with Fivot Learning Systems was on my show the first time and the gels become a very good friend and had her on a few times after that, but that was in 2020.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, big episodes there, thoughts about hop versus BBS, behavior-based safety, and then I started in my road to a hundred episodes where I started interviewing some people that I was just trying to get to my hundredth episode, and after I did, which was in February 2021,
[SPEAKER_02]: I went back to really some just making sure my episodes were really helping you guys with growing your business.
[SPEAKER_02]: I had D-Arp who was the head of Nibash or at least.
[SPEAKER_02]: chief operating officer of Mi Bosch, and just really started thinking more globally there.
[SPEAKER_02]: He had to fill Russell on my show, talking about ocean, had to be strategic with your ocean inspections, whenever you're, or, say, ocean informal conferences when you do that.
[SPEAKER_02]: I had my nephew Joshua and his life at Kumi talking about their channel on YouTube, Prima's Effect, and just showing us secrets with YouTube and how to be successful there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just a bunch of good interviews throughout that year.
[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about OSHA Recker keeping Dr. Jake King back a few times in 2021.
[SPEAKER_02]: So throughout the years we had a whole bunch of things.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna scroll up because I've got a whole bunch.
[SPEAKER_02]: But starting in 2021 in September I did my safety consultant on 01 and I've done that a few times throughout the years.
[SPEAKER_02]: And what that is is I had at the first time it was a four hour.
[SPEAKER_02]: just a webinar seminar and a workshop where I just basically did it for free.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll tell everybody that business is being a safety consultant.
[SPEAKER_02]: You guys want to one with me.
[SPEAKER_02]: We did that again this past year.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm saying that now because I'm going to do one each quarter.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm really hoping that I'm going to get more you in hearing this year.
[SPEAKER_02]: Trying to really focus on helping people become consultants, so when we come back I can get our wrap up what has been going on for this first Seven years of podcasting is going into season six and then I will just truly Tell you what's coming up all right, so we won't go through a full memory lane, but I'm just going to
[SPEAKER_00]: just wrap it up a little so I will see you guys back in just a few.
[SPEAKER_02]: You get into the safety business because you want to protect people.
[SPEAKER_02]: But somewhere along the way the job started controlling your time, your schedule, your priorities, even your income potential.
[SPEAKER_02]: What if the expertise you've built over the years can the field can give you something more?
[SPEAKER_02]: More freedom, more control, more ownership of your future.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Sheldon Prime as the author of Seven Steps, to starting a profitable safety consulting business and the host of the Safety Consultant podcast, but more than 350 episodes helping safety professionals become consultants and grow their career.

[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I help safe professionals build their all consulting practice through biweekly coaching calls, accountability, and personal guidance.
[SPEAKER_02]: But this program is for everyone.
[SPEAKER_02]: Start with the consultant readiness audit at shelvin.coach.
[SPEAKER_00]: We now return to the Safety Consultant Show.
[SPEAKER_00]: Once again, here's Sheldon Primus.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, welcome back.
[SPEAKER_02]: And just to wrap things up, I want to thank everybody so much for being with me these last years.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I only gave you guys a highlight of the first few seasons.
[SPEAKER_02]: I even talked about one.
[SPEAKER_02]: Jim Postal came on and show a few times of safety wars and like you guys are listening to Jim on safety wars on safety FM keep going.
[SPEAKER_02]: These good guy I Truly truly I'm just happy with the connections and people I met with safety FM and one of the
[SPEAKER_02]: Biggest joys of my career and episodes is when I got to get to interview Dr. Todd Conquin.
[SPEAKER_02]: That was just an awesome interview.
[SPEAKER_02]: I played it for my students almost every week.
[SPEAKER_02]: That I do have one of my cost-class or cost-on-class because the gems that he show freely shared with me.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's been a few years ago.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to try to have him back and see if we could go over his stability trapbook that he did recently.
[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, I'm just going to, oh, for your knowledge that season four episode 190.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that was in September 13th, 2022, but when you get to safety consultant podcast.com, you just type in Dr. Todd Conklin and then you'll be able to
[SPEAKER_02]: I hear his interview, but I've talked to many, many wonderful people throughout the years.
[SPEAKER_02]: I want to thank everybody for being on the show, being part of the Safety Consulting Podcast Experience.
[SPEAKER_02]: My friends and past students that are just killing it and are just sharing their experience and how they did things with me on my episodes.

[SPEAKER_02]: So thank you so much.
[SPEAKER_02]: I am going to make episode or excuse me, season six.
[SPEAKER_02]: More about helping you, I'm going to just truly, truly start interviewing people who are going to work with them to help them be consultants.
[SPEAKER_02]: So you'll see some of my consulting students featured in two season six.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you yourself want to be consulted, to get into consulting into actually being mentored by myself, then go to Sheldon, S-H-E-L-D-O-N.
[SPEAKER_02]: dot coach C-O-A-C-H.

[SPEAKER_02]: So that is what I want to share today.
[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you guys for just supporting me all these years.
[SPEAKER_02]: Go Kano!
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a wrap for today's safety show.
[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, safety isn't just about hard hats and caution signs.
