Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy the time we can spend together.
I wanna again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break. Guys, grab your cup of coffee, glass iced tea, tall, cool glass of lemonade, whatever you want. Let's see what's happening.
OK Solberg:Spring wheat $5.61 a bushel, 550lb steer calf, they're getting contracted now, a range from $5 to $5.60 a pound depending on their quality, and a 100lb fat lamb in Billings going up a bit $3.38 a pound. But guys, there's more, much more.
OK Solberg:Now I know what you're thinking. You think I always live in the past. So today, I'll prove to you that I can focus on the present. Back in April of this year, April's only two months past. Back in April of this year, there came a fascinating story, a human interest story that I wanna share with you today.
OK Solberg:It deals with two people still alive today, Becky Gibson, 82, and Ralph Slaughter, 75. Becky Gibson dedicated her life to nursing before retiring in 2024 and moving into Rose Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Ohio.
OK Solberg:Slaughter, 75, a Vietnam War veteran who was awarded a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. Following the Vietnam War, Slaughter moved to Kentucky when he got married and later to Florida where he worked as a canoe & kayak tour guide on the Crooked River. But, guys, you know what happens.
OK Solberg:Life gets busy and family can all of a sudden play 2nd fiddle. We all know how that can happen. When's the last time you visited with your brother? When's the last time you visited with your sister? You know what I mean.
OK Solberg:It's easy to let time slip away, and, well, pretty soon you lose contact with some of your family. Well, that's exactly what happened with Becky and Ralph. For you see, they were brother and sister. They never had an argument that drove each other apart. No.
OK Solberg:Nothing like that. Life just happened. And before you know it, Ralph wondered where Becky was, and Becky wondered where Ralph was. But that's about as far as it went. So as the decades pass, old age creeps in, and Ralph needs to be put into a nursing home there in Ohio.
OK Solberg:Well, his daughter posted on Facebook, and her cousin sees it when she wrote, we got dad all tucked away at Rose Lane Nursing Facility. Her her cousin sees the post and writes, are you serious? You must be joking at Rose Lane. Well, you'll never believe it, but we put mom there too.
OK Solberg:Guys, they're in the same facility, brother and sister in the same building without the other one knowing that it even happened. Becky was delighted and surprised to learn that she would be living under the same roof as her brother again.
OK Solberg:I was in shock. And I said, you gotta be kidding me. It was really neat because Ralph's grandson brought him down to the lobby, and I recognized him right away. After 30 years, let me tell you, it felt pretty good.
OK Solberg:It really did. When interviewed, Ralph said, and we've been together every day since. I didn't know I'd ever see her again. And miraculously, we ended up here together. When asked for advice for other people out there, Ralph said, hey, don't wait so long to see your relatives.
OK Solberg:Try not to wait that long. 30 years is too long of a time. End of story, and I can just see them in my mind's eye. So many stories to catch up on. When we have a connected past to remember, it's easy to have a conversation even in old age.
OK Solberg:All you have to do is, well, do you remember Bub's daddy bubble gum that we used to buy? Or didn't Danny McAfee live in the Moran house? Conversations are seldom dull when we have common connections from the past. Now talking about brothers and sister reunions, does that remind you of someone else? Think now.
OK Solberg:A brother and a sister that were reunited miraculously. History. Can you think? Sacagawea and her brother. Remember, in 1805 Lewis and Clark's group met up with the Shoshone's, and the chief of that tribe was Sakajuia's brother.
OK Solberg:This reunion was pivotal in helping the explorers secure horses and guides to cross the Rocky Mountains, a joyous and beneficial reunion it was. And, yes, there were some tears shed, happy, joyous tears.
OK Solberg:I'll close with a bible verse from Proverbs 18:24 A brother of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24
OK Solberg:Good stuff. Guys, go out and enjoy the summer evening and the sunset. No fair going to bed before the sun sets.
OK Solberg:So until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
