Episode 18: The Weight You’ve Been Carrying
Opening:
“Have you ever felt tired… but not just physically tired?
I’m talking about soul tired.
For years, you’ve carried regrets, silent disappointments, Grief no one talks about, financial pressures, and the list goes on.
Today we’re talking about the weight you’ve been carrying — and what God says about it. (Music)________________________________________Scripture Matthew 11:28–30
“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest…”
Jesus is inviting us to come to him as we are; tired and weight down with life’s burdens and worries, and in return he will take on the weight, so we don’t have too. He promises to give us rest but we need to be willing to let go of our load.
Why?
Because you were never meant to carry it alone.________________________________________Segment 1: What Are You Carrying?
So, what are you carrying?
1. Emotional Weight
Unforgiveness, disappointment, feeling overlooked.
2. Responsibility Weight
Always being the dependable one.
3. Spiritual Weight
Trying to be “strong in faith” while silently struggling.
4. Identity Weight
Not knowing who you are in this season anymore.
“Sometimes the heaviest weight isn’t what happened to you…
It’s what you never processed.”
It’s not always the event itself that keeps hurting.
It’s the unspoken emotion attached to it.
For Example:
• A divorce happened years ago — but you never grieved the dream that died.
• Your children grew up and left — but you never processed the identity shift.
• Someone hurt you — but you swallowed the anger to “keep the peace.”
• You were overlooked — but you told yourself it didn’t matter.
The event passed.
But the emotion stayed stored.
Unprocessed pain becomes internal pressure.
A lot of times were taught to:
• Be strong.
• Don’t cry too long.
• Keep moving.
• Pray and push through.
• Take care of everyone else first.
So instead of processing, you performed.
Instead of grieving, you functioned.
Instead of healing, you handled it.
And over time, that becomes heavy.
Psalm 32:3–4, David says that when he kept silent, his bones felt heavy and his strength dried up. Silence didn’t protect him — it exhausted him.
Processing means:
• Acknowledging what hurt.
• Allowing yourself to feel it.
• Bringing it honestly to God.
• Naming what changed in you because of it.
Unprocessed pain often shows up as:
• Irritability
• Emotional numbness
• Overworking
• Over-controlling
• Constant exhaustion
• Feeling “off” but not knowing why
That’s the weight, my sister and It’s okay to finally look at what you’ve been carrying.________________________________________Scripture: 1 Peter 5:7
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
Casting is intentional. It means you deliberately, done on purpose gave God all your problems and worries for Him to help you with.
Listen, you cannot cast and clutch at the same time.
“You learned to survive by carrying the weight.
But survival is not the same as freedom.”
Survival mode is about getting through.
Freedom is about living whole.
Survival says:
“I can handle it.”
Freedom says:
“I don’t have to handle it alone.”
Survival builds endurance.
Freedom builds peace.
Survival keeps you functioning.
Freedom lets you rest.
Think about the Israelites in Exodus 16. They survived Egypt. But even after they were free, they still thought like slaves. Their bodies were out — but their mindset was still in bondage.
Some women are no longer in the crisis…
But they’re still carrying the weight from when they were.
And God isn’t just trying to help you endure life.
He’s inviting you into abundant life (John 10:10).
You survived what you had to.
But maybe this season is about learning how to live lighter.________________________________________Segment 3: How to Lay It Down
Here are some Practical Pause Break Exercises. (soft music)
This is where you invite the Holy Spirit to come and breathe in the room.
I want you to think about something.
What did you survive…
but never sit with?
(Pause 8–10 seconds)
Not what hurt you.
What changed you.
(Pause)
What part of you had to grow up too fast?
What part of you shut down?
What part of you decided, “I’ll never let that happen again”?
(Pause 10 seconds)
Just sit there.
Let it come up.
You don’t have to fix it right now.
You don’t have to analyze it.
Just acknowledge it.
Because awareness is the beginning of release.
(Longer pause — 10 seconds)
Whisper this quietly where you are:
“God… I’m ready to look at it.”
(Pause)
“And the beautiful thing is — when you finally let yourself feel it; you’re not alone in it.”
Let’s Prayer
“Father, you see the hidden weight.
The silent tears.
The strength she has worn like an armor.
Today we lay it down.
Not because we are weak…
But because You are strong.” Amen
