Project Sisterhood is a podcast for women who want to grow in faith, find healthy community, and become who God created them to be.
Hosted by Chrissy Cole and the Project Church Sisterhood team, each episode brings honest conversations and biblical encouragement centered on identity, belonging, spiritual maturity, healing, relationships, and purpose.
With a mix of humor, vulnerability, and real-life wisdom, Project Sisterhood creates space for women in every age and stage to feel seen, strengthened, and connected—because you were never meant to do life alone.
00;00;00;00 - 00;00;02;03
Growing
up, if you wanted to be in leadership
00;00;02;03 - 00;00;05;11
or if you wanted to be in ministry,
you either had to be a worship leader,
00;00;05;11 - 00;00;09;11
a communicator, or a teacher of the word
for own in some sense.
00;00;09;25 - 00;00;12;15
So I tried. The worship didn't work out.
00;00;12;15 - 00;00;14;21
Wait, I want to hear.
What did you try in worship?
00;00;14;21 - 00;00;16;28
I sang in the worship team. Okay, yeah.
00;00;16;28 - 00;00;20;05
And then, like, at one point, they were
like, well, you're going to lead the song.
00;00;20;05 - 00;00;22;00
And I'm like, I am not a singer.
00;00;22;00 - 00;00;25;11
And I did it just because, you know,
I grew up in a small church
00;00;25;11 - 00;00;28;17
that you kind of do what,
what is needed to be done.
00;00;28;17 - 00;00;29;06
Yeah.
00;00;29;06 - 00;00;34;15
And I did that, but then I was like,
okay, I understand it's not my gifts.
00;00;34;17 - 00;00;38;02
This is a Project sisterhood podcast
for all things women,
00;00;38;05 - 00;00;41;23
brother, youth, a purpose for ministry,
motherhood for the marketplace.
00;00;41;24 - 00;00;44;27
We have crucial and genuine conversations
that transcend
00;00;44;27 - 00;00;47;27
your season
to impact your true identity as a woman.
00;00;48;01 - 00;00;48;26
So light hearted.
00;00;48;26 - 00;00;49;27
Possible.
00;00;49;27 - 00;00;50;17
Honesty.
00;00;50;17 - 00;00;53;06
Matters of the heart
and soul to be encouraged.
00;00;53;06 - 00;00;54;24
We hope you and all women
00;00;54;24 - 00;00;58;21
of every age, at every stage,
find life and freedom in Jesus
00;00;59;23 - 00;01;04;01
and. Hey,
00;01;04;01 - 00;01;08;05
ladies, welcome to another episode
of the Project Sisterhood podcast.
00;01;08;05 - 00;01;10;03
We're so glad that you joined us.
00;01;10;03 - 00;01;12;29
And you're here to get to know
some of the sisterhood.
00;01;12;29 - 00;01;16;28
Maybe you're new to the sisterhood
or you're looking for sisterhood.
00;01;17;00 - 00;01;19;28
We hope that you can find something
that will edify you
00;01;19;28 - 00;01;23;06
and lead you to Jesus, lead
you to friendship, lead you to sisterhood.
00;01;23;06 - 00;01;26;17
But I get to introduce to you today
00;01;26;22 - 00;01;30;13
one of my friends, Miss Gabby Reyez.
00;01;30;16 - 00;01;30;29
Hello.
00;01;30;29 - 00;01;32;11
Did you did you see that?
00;01;32;11 - 00;01;34;17
I tried to do that with the help of her.
00;01;34;17 - 00;01;37;17
Yeah, that way it didn't work.
00;01;38;01 - 00;01;39;13
But this is Gabby.
00;01;39;13 - 00;01;42;26
Probably one of the most creative people
00;01;42;26 - 00;01;46;10
that I am learning, in my life right now.
00;01;46;10 - 00;01;51;02
Learning about and seeing her gifts
be used in the church.
00;01;51;22 - 00;01;55;22
She's just a beautiful, passionate
lover of Jesus.
00;01;55;28 - 00;01;59;07
The wife of our, South SAC campus.
00;01;59;07 - 00;02;00;04
Pastor.
00;02;00;04 - 00;02;01;23
Pastor Antonio. Yes.
00;02;01;23 - 00;02;04;07
And also mother to Aislinn. Yes.
00;02;04;07 - 00;02;06;20
Cool is creative name there, too.
00;02;06;20 - 00;02;10;06
Come on, give it up for my girl, Gabby.
00;02;10;09 - 00;02;13;00
Thank you guys so much for having me here
today. Yeah.
00;02;13;00 - 00;02;15;05
Super excited.
You've been on before. Yeah.
00;02;15;05 - 00;02;18;24
And we were talking, I think, a
little bit more spiritual formation stuff.
00;02;18;24 - 00;02;22;28
And when I've thought
about having you, I.
00;02;22;28 - 00;02;27;07
I was excited because you're leading
so many women in the Project
00;02;27;07 - 00;02;30;07
South Campus
and at the projects outside campus,
00;02;30;14 - 00;02;34;29
and you've really grown and developed,
some relationships, friendships there.
00;02;34;29 - 00;02;39;02
And the sisterhood out
there is strong, tight.
00;02;39;03 - 00;02;41;21
Yeah. Really supportive of one another.
00;02;41;21 - 00;02;47;09
And, you know, having replanted
this church in the last year,
00;02;48;01 - 00;02;50;17
you know, doing those kinds of things,
plowing together.
00;02;50;17 - 00;02;55;27
Yeah, really forges, relationships
and strengthens relationships.
00;02;55;27 - 00;03;00;24
So I wanted women to hear
from our fearless leader in South SAC,
00;03;01;02 - 00;03;05;04
but also, man, when I think about you
and you just think about creativity,
00;03;05;04 - 00;03;09;21
and creativity is talked
about a lot, is celebrated a lot.
00;03;10;25 - 00;03;13;24
But I want to
00;03;13;26 - 00;03;18;18
kind of fashion this conversation
around creativity in the church.
00;03;18;18 - 00;03;18;26
Yeah.
00;03;18;26 - 00;03;19;14
You know,
00;03;19;14 - 00;03;23;24
I think everybody celebrates creativity,
but let's talk about it in the church.
00;03;23;24 - 00;03;25;21
So I don't know where to start,
to be honest.
00;03;25;21 - 00;03;27;28
So let's let's start with how's it going.
Yeah.
00;03;27;28 - 00;03;30;28
In South SAC and the sisterhood
that's forming there and.
00;03;31;03 - 00;03;32;10
Yeah. Yeah.
00;03;32;10 - 00;03;34;19
Well, we're doing awesome.
00;03;34;19 - 00;03;37;00
We our community is growing. Yeah.
00;03;37;00 - 00;03;40;25
I feel like the first year that we were
there, we were just trying to get to know
00;03;40;25 - 00;03;44;21
everyone and just,
you know, learn the culture and learn,
00;03;44;24 - 00;03;48;16
just
who was there, who's part of the team.
00;03;48;16 - 00;03;53;01
And this year, we're definitely being,
we're in a place where we're
00;03;53;06 - 00;03;56;11
we're growing and reflecting ourselves
within the campus.
00;03;56;13 - 00;03;56;25
Yeah.
00;03;56;25 - 00;03;58;06
And we're meeting a lot
00;03;58;06 - 00;04;02;02
of beautiful people and a lot of beautiful
people are joining the team.
00;04;02;02 - 00;04;07;09
And yeah, the sisterhood, IT group is
growing and just community in general.
00;04;07;09 - 00;04;09;13
So we loved we love seeing that.
00;04;09;13 - 00;04;13;23
And we just had our Easter
service yesterday and it was beautiful.
00;04;13;23 - 00;04;14;00
Yeah.
00;04;14;00 - 00;04;19;24
It was so beautiful just to see,
all of the people that you regularly come
00;04;20;06 - 00;04;23;29
bring family members or loved ones
or friends.
00;04;24;27 - 00;04;27;18
It's so beautiful to see that
because it truly makes us
00;04;27;18 - 00;04;30;18
feel like, wow, we've created a space
where you feel comfortable.
00;04;30;26 - 00;04;33;25
Yes, bringing your loved ones and people
00;04;33;25 - 00;04;37;09
that you care about to also experience
Jesus.
00;04;37;09 - 00;04;39;12
Yeah. So we're we're so thankful.
00;04;39;12 - 00;04;39;23
Yeah.
00;04;39;23 - 00;04;43;21
We are so thankful for you and Antonio
being leaders out there and how,
00;04;43;29 - 00;04;47;10
things have been going
and just you've stewarded it really well.
00;04;47;17 - 00;04;50;27
And it's interesting
when you have a multi-site church.
00;04;50;27 - 00;04;52;24
Yeah, like we do.
00;04;52;24 - 00;04;55;00
We've done it once before
when we were in West SAC.
00;04;55;00 - 00;04;59;27
But now, after bringing that campus
in with our campus from downtown,
00;05;00;12 - 00;05;05;11
it was another few years
before we started South Side Campus.
00;05;05;11 - 00;05;08;22
So we there's different ways
that you could do multi-site.
00;05;08;22 - 00;05;11;22
So, when we did West SAC,
00;05;11;27 - 00;05;14;24
it was a little different
than how we're doing it with South SAC.
00;05;14;24 - 00;05;18;13
But essentially you could do multi-site
a couple of ways.
00;05;18;13 - 00;05;19;06
You could
00;05;19;06 - 00;05;23;07
make a Starbucks and franchise it out,
and then every Starbucks looks the same.
00;05;23;17 - 00;05;27;26
Or you can contextualize,
yeah, a little bit more
00;05;27;28 - 00;05;30;26
the campus to reflect.
00;05;30;26 - 00;05;31;05
Yeah.
00;05;31;05 - 00;05;36;04
The community that you're in, but
also the leaders that are in place there.
00;05;36;04 - 00;05;36;13
Yeah.
00;05;36;13 - 00;05;40;20
And Caleb and I have always been,
sometimes to a fault,
00;05;40;20 - 00;05;44;24
but we have always leaned towards
let them have autonomy.
00;05;45;14 - 00;05;50;03
And, in our younger years,
we were we really championed autonomy,
00;05;50;05 - 00;05;54;08
more out of the fear
that we would be seen as micro managers.
00;05;55;12 - 00;05;58;08
But then, as
you know, we've grown in our leadership.
00;05;58;08 - 00;05;59;03
We realize,
00;05;59;03 - 00;06;03;22
no, we want you to have autonomy
so that you can fully express yourself.
00;06;03;27 - 00;06;07;00
And then in the areas
where there does need to be a little bit
00;06;07;00 - 00;06;12;16
more of a, central vision,
then we will apply that.
00;06;12;16 - 00;06;16;25
But there's been just this beautiful
strength, I think, to our church.
00;06;16;25 - 00;06;17;02
Yeah.
00;06;17;02 - 00;06;22;12
Because the Lord has I do believe
that the Lord has led us to say, let South
00;06;22;23 - 00;06;25;12
be what God wants to produce there
00;06;25;12 - 00;06;28;12
and let our creator God. Yes.
00;06;28;24 - 00;06;32;05
Use you know,
the people that are placed there
00;06;32;05 - 00;06;35;26
to steward the steward the ground
and let them create?
00;06;35;28 - 00;06;36;10
Yeah.
00;06;36;10 - 00;06;39;17
And let that campus be contextualized to
00;06;40;09 - 00;06;42;27
South Sacramento
and what he's doing there.
00;06;42;27 - 00;06;45;14
Not just creating a Starbucks.
00;06;45;14 - 00;06;46;19
Yeah, you know what I mean.
00;06;46;19 - 00;06;51;14
And so it's been really beautiful to see,
what you guys have developed there.
00;06;51;14 - 00;06;54;11
But let's talk for a moment
about creativity.
00;06;54;11 - 00;06;59;02
I told you, I told the people that you're
one of the most creative people that I.
00;06;59;17 - 00;07;04;08
I know, and I'm learning more
the longer we get to know you and Antonio,
00;07;04;18 - 00;07;07;28
that there's so many gifts in you
00;07;07;28 - 00;07;11;05
that lean creativity, like,
lean towards creative.
00;07;11;05 - 00;07;14;02
So tell us about just your passions.
00;07;14;02 - 00;07;17;13
Yeah, about creativity and the Lord.
00;07;17;13 - 00;07;18;28
What is more than showing you.
00;07;18;28 - 00;07;24;09
Yeah, I think that, I've always liked
00;07;25;09 - 00;07;27;14
visually to see things that,
00;07;27;14 - 00;07;31;15
I don't know, I just that attracted me
or that I saw beautiful.
00;07;32;01 - 00;07;37;14
And, I always try to, you know,
I've had a hard time
00;07;37;14 - 00;07;41;02
trying to find my place when it came
to, you know, creativity.
00;07;41;02 - 00;07;44;27
And, when I was younger,
I used to just love to draw,
00;07;44;27 - 00;07;48;08
and I was like, okay, when I get older,
I'm going to be like a fashion designer.
00;07;48;10 - 00;07;50;22
And I'm like, no, you know what?
00;07;50;22 - 00;07;51;23
Now? Like, that's not my thing.
00;07;51;23 - 00;07;52;26
Like, I just like nice clothes,
00;07;52;26 - 00;07;55;11
but I don't want to design them like, I'm
okay with that.
00;07;55;11 - 00;07;59;12
And then, then I, you know,
right after high school, I graduated
00;07;59;12 - 00;08;02;17
and I went straight into cosmetology
because I was like, well, maybe this is,
00;08;02;25 - 00;08;05;03
you know, where
I'm going to release my creativity.
00;08;05;03 - 00;08;05;17
Yeah.
00;08;05;17 - 00;08;10;09
Which I love, you know, I love shout out
to all of the Cosmetologists like,
00;08;10;09 - 00;08;11;04
you guys are amazing.
00;08;11;04 - 00;08;16;07
But then I realized
I don't want to just be limited to this.
00;08;16;25 - 00;08;19;20
And then, you know,
I went and I pursued ministry.
00;08;19;20 - 00;08;23;02
But then I also also struggled
with trying to find my place
00;08;23;02 - 00;08;25;05
in the church creatively. Yeah.
00;08;25;05 - 00;08;28;28
And I always knew that I liked,
you know, colors.
00;08;28;28 - 00;08;32;10
And you know, like, textures
and all of these things.
00;08;32;10 - 00;08;36;07
I just never knew how to, you know,
put it in one place.
00;08;36;13 - 00;08;37;09
And they never
00;08;37;09 - 00;08;41;23
I thought that I couldn't just contain it
with like one, one type of art.
00;08;41;25 - 00;08;46;05
So I, I had like, so much confidence,
like who I was,
00;08;46;18 - 00;08;49;12
because I didn't know that
00;08;49;12 - 00;08;52;12
creatively, I could
it could reflect my entire life.
00;08;52;14 - 00;08;52;24
Yeah.
00;08;52;24 - 00;08;56;10
What I wear, how I do my hair,
like how I do my nails
00;08;56;10 - 00;08;59;28
the way that I,
you know, create things on social media
00;08;59;29 - 00;09;04;04
or even at home, like how I, you know,
create my space and decorate my space.
00;09;04;14 - 00;09;08;04
It doesn't have just to be
it didn't have to be limited to one thing.
00;09;08;04 - 00;09;11;07
So I always struggled with creativity
growing up, even though I did
00;09;11;29 - 00;09;14;10
at one point start
considering myself the creative
00;09;14;10 - 00;09;17;23
just because I didn't know
that it could be it.
00;09;17;23 - 00;09;21;15
Reflect all of you,
instead of just in certain spaces.
00;09;23;12 - 00;09;24;13
But,
00;09;24;13 - 00;09;28;16
thankfully,
you know, when I dove into the church,
00;09;28;26 - 00;09;32;25
little by little,
I started to realize I can use this
00;09;32;25 - 00;09;35;25
gifting within the church.
00;09;35;26 - 00;09;39;25
Something that I struggled with growing up
because I thought that growing up,
00;09;39;25 - 00;09;42;24
if you wanted to be in leadership
or if you wanted to be in ministry,
00;09;42;24 - 00;09;45;18
you either had to be a worship leader,
a communicator, or
00;09;45;18 - 00;09;48;18
a teacher of the word for in some sense.
00;09;48;27 - 00;09;51;18
So I tried. The worship didn't work out.
00;09;51;18 - 00;09;53;23
Wait, I want to hear
what did you try and worship?
00;09;53;23 - 00;09;56;00
I sang in the worship team. Okay, yeah.
00;09;56;00 - 00;09;59;06
And then like, at one point they were
like, well, you're going to lead the song.
00;09;59;06 - 00;10;01;02
And I'm like, I am not a singer.
00;10;01;02 - 00;10;04;13
And I did it just because, you know,
I grew up in a small church
00;10;04;13 - 00;10;07;20
that you kind of do what,
what is needed to be done.
00;10;07;20 - 00;10;11;06
Yeah. And I did that.
00;10;11;06 - 00;10;13;20
But then I was like, okay, I understand
it's not my gifting,
00;10;13;20 - 00;10;14;28
especially when I would sort of
00;10;14;28 - 00;10;17;13
surround myself with other worship leaders
that are like, really?
00;10;17;13 - 00;10;18;20
You know, that was their gifting.
00;10;18;20 - 00;10;21;19
I was like, yeah, it's not here,
and I'm okay with that.
00;10;21;23 - 00;10;26;26
And then I do, you know, I'm,
I love to communicate,
00;10;27;04 - 00;10;29;26
but not it's not my passion
like Antonio's,
00;10;29;26 - 00;10;32;10
you know, like
he loves to communicate. Yes.
00;10;32;10 - 00;10;34;04
And I love that.
00;10;34;04 - 00;10;35;09
That's his art form.
00;10;35;09 - 00;10;37;01
But that's not mine either.
00;10;37;01 - 00;10;39;26
I struggled to speak in public.
00;10;39;26 - 00;10;42;24
Although I it's something I'm practicing
and it's a muscle
00;10;42;24 - 00;10;44;24
that I'm starting to grow.
00;10;44;24 - 00;10;46;24
Yes, but it's not my passion.
00;10;46;24 - 00;10;50;15
Like, I'd rather be behind the camera
or behind the scenes.
00;10;50;15 - 00;10;57;29
But once I was able to get into church
spaces where I realized I can use
00;10;57;29 - 00;11;01;19
my creative gifting in other ways,
it doesn't have to be on stage.
00;11;02;12 - 00;11;04;01
I could create a space.
00;11;04;01 - 00;11;08;01
You know, I, I started early on, like,
going creating the green room, right?
00;11;08;01 - 00;11;11;28
Like, you can prepare the green room,
for events and stuff.
00;11;11;28 - 00;11;14;00
So then I would
I started to do that and I'm like, wow.
00;11;14;00 - 00;11;17;00
Like, yeah,
this is actually serving in some sense.
00;11;17;00 - 00;11;19;26
And then it's like decorating
for special events.
00;11;19;26 - 00;11;20;17
And I'm like, wow.
00;11;20;17 - 00;11;22;17
Like this is actually, you know,
00;11;22;17 - 00;11;26;17
people are walking into this space
and it's creating something in them.
00;11;26;17 - 00;11;26;26
Yeah.
00;11;26;26 - 00;11;30;19
So that when I started to realize that
I can use my giftings within the church
00;11;30;19 - 00;11;34;29
for more than just special
events and like, it could also be like,
00;11;35;23 - 00;11;38;02
this is how I serve God.
00;11;38;02 - 00;11;41;08
It really changed my perspective
with who I was
00;11;41;08 - 00;11;46;14
as a creative,
but also as, like a minister of the word.
00;11;46;14 - 00;11;46;26
Right.
00;11;46;26 - 00;11;51;19
So coming to that point in
my life has been a journey.
00;11;51;28 - 00;11;57;05
But now at 35, I feel like I've arrived
to a place where, okay, I know who I am.
00;11;57;05 - 00;11;58;23
I know what God created me to do.
00;11;58;23 - 00;12;00;16
I know who he created me to be.
00;12;00;16 - 00;12;06;24
And I could honestly, genuinely
express myself with without any apologies.
00;12;07;05 - 00;12;12;04
As like a creative person, but then also
wanting to share the gospel with that.
00;12;12;04 - 00;12;14;12
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, that's so good.
00;12;14;12 - 00;12;17;06
I think that I, I like what you said
there in the beginning.
00;12;17;06 - 00;12;19;16
You couldn't not,
I didn't like it. It's unfortunate.
00;12;19;16 - 00;12;22;22
But for a while you didn't feel like
you had a space in the church.
00;12;23;01 - 00;12;27;08
Because I think we were just
talking about this before the podcast,
00;12;27;08 - 00;12;31;25
because I listen to a podcast
where it's,
00;12;31;25 - 00;12;35;21
the guest was talking about how we've kind
of overplayed our hand with leadership.
00;12;35;22 - 00;12;38;12
Yeah. And I'm using my own words now.
00;12;38;12 - 00;12;41;23
But essentially, leadership
has become such an obsession
00;12;41;23 - 00;12;44;28
within the church
that you limit leadership
00;12;44;28 - 00;12;48;24
to things that are on stage
and you're relegated to almost,
00;12;49;11 - 00;12;54;00
almost like a corporate like production of
this is what a leader is.
00;12;54;00 - 00;12;56;04
Yeah, the person is probably bossy.
00;12;56;04 - 00;12;59;29
The person commands the presence
and then it it undermines
00;13;00;21 - 00;13;02;23
the giftings that God has placed in others
00;13;02;23 - 00;13;06;16
that maybe you are
you and Antonio the way you are leading.
00;13;06;16 - 00;13;08;23
You are supposed to lead out of a place of
00;13;08;23 - 00;13;12;21
this is the community,
and this is the space that we're creating.
00;13;12;21 - 00;13;15;21
And it's drawing people,
but it's not because you,
00;13;15;28 - 00;13;20;03
because you commanded people
to be in the room or.
00;13;20;11 - 00;13;20;27
You know what I mean?
00;13;20;27 - 00;13;24;26
I, I'm trying to,
I just think that there's probably
00;13;24;26 - 00;13;29;27
so many people listening
who feel like they either are disqualified
00;13;29;27 - 00;13;32;27
or unseen
because they don't have some of their,
00;13;32;28 - 00;13;35;24
the typical
00;13;36;28 - 00;13;37;09
or the
00;13;37;09 - 00;13;41;03
basic leadership, you know, qualities
00;13;41;03 - 00;13;45;14
that probably aren't really
what God is wanting to use all the time.
00;13;45;14 - 00;13;46;21
You know, in the church.
00;13;46;21 - 00;13;49;10
Yeah, he's just two,
00;13;49;10 - 00;13;52;12
he's just too infinite in his ways.
00;13;52;12 - 00;13;58;19
Yeah, that it's funny how as humans, we
limit God to use people who have a certain
00;13;58;19 - 00;14;02;11
kind of skill set, a certain
kind of voice, a certain kind of presence.
00;14;02;11 - 00;14;02;26
Yeah.
00;14;02;26 - 00;14;08;02
And I think that's what I love, that
you too have brought to Project Church.
00;14;08;13 - 00;14;11;21
I remember when we were talking
with our staff
00;14;11;21 - 00;14;15;19
and interviewing Antonio
and letting them get their questions, and,
00;14;15;25 - 00;14;20;15
one of our pastors on staff said,
I think they're what we've been missing,
00;14;21;01 - 00;14;24;24
you know, just like this other angle
00;14;24;24 - 00;14;28;22
at it, at the angles,
not the right word, but just.
00;14;28;22 - 00;14;29;16
Yeah.
00;14;29;16 - 00;14;30;19
Another dimension.
00;14;30;19 - 00;14;32;13
Yeah. To our staff. Yeah.
00;14;32;13 - 00;14;34;27
So thank you. Yeah, yeah.
00;14;34;27 - 00;14;38;13
I feel like I've,
00;14;38;13 - 00;14;43;18
needed once I realized who I was
and who God created me to be,
00;14;44;00 - 00;14;46;23
I was able to serve in that
00;14;46;23 - 00;14;49;23
in such a comfortable way,
in such a loving way.
00;14;50;19 - 00;14;55;19
I remember when we first church parted,
Antonio and I back in 2017.
00;14;55;19 - 00;14;58;14
I was 26 years old, so young.
00;14;58;14 - 00;14;59;13
I don't even know why we did that.
00;15;01;08 - 00;15;05;19
But I was under an amazing, leader.
00;15;05;19 - 00;15;09;03
And she was such a strong communicator.
00;15;09;03 - 00;15;11;05
She was such strong leader.
00;15;11;05 - 00;15;14;15
And when we church planted
and they, like, launched us
00;15;14;15 - 00;15;17;15
in my head, I was like,
I need to lead exactly like her.
00;15;17;15 - 00;15;22;07
And I had struggled so much
because I couldn't be just like her.
00;15;22;17 - 00;15;26;07
And I remember I had a life coach
at the time and she told me, well,
00;15;26;10 - 00;15;29;24
you're struggling because you're trying
to lead out of somebody else's gifting.
00;15;29;24 - 00;15;33;14
So you have to learn who you are
and what your giftings are.
00;15;33;14 - 00;15;37;26
And in that way, you can lead
how God made you to lead.
00;15;37;26 - 00;15;39;07
So then the more
00;15;39;07 - 00;15;43;05
I started to get to know who I was
and I took a lot of personality tests.
00;15;43;05 - 00;15;44;24
Not that those are going to limit me
00;15;44;24 - 00;15;48;23
to just those things,
but it really got to teach me who I was.
00;15;48;23 - 00;15;50;07
And once I learned those things
00;15;50;07 - 00;15;53;11
and I was able to lead in such a better
and healthy way.
00;15;53;11 - 00;15;54;10
Yeah.
00;15;54;10 - 00;15;58;16
Like, for example, I don't know
if people are in, I'm a helper.
00;15;58;19 - 00;16;01;07
If you're into the Enneagram,
I'm. And number two.
00;16;01;07 - 00;16;02;21
We don't believe it's demonic. It's okay.
00;16;02;21 - 00;16;05;21
Yeah, it's
okay because you freely speak freely.
00;16;05;22 - 00;16;08;20
And once I,
you know, started to learn about those,
00;16;08;20 - 00;16;13;04
you know, personality traits,
I was like, wow, those do reflect mean.
00;16;13;04 - 00;16;15;24
It's who I am. And I love to help people.
00;16;15;24 - 00;16;18;23
And once I learned how to do that
in a healthy way,
00;16;18;23 - 00;16;21;00
I, I don't mind being the number two.
00;16;21;00 - 00;16;25;28
I don't mind like giving your vision
and I will help you bring it to fruition.
00;16;25;28 - 00;16;30;22
Yes. And I'm not, intimidated by like,
oh, you're not leading.
00;16;30;22 - 00;16;31;23
And I'm like, it's okay.
00;16;31;23 - 00;16;33;25
Like, I don't have to be the number.
00;16;33;25 - 00;16;34;17
You know, the leader.
00;16;34;17 - 00;16;37;17
Like, I want to help.
00;16;37;18 - 00;16;39;27
And it gives me such a freedom
when it comes to creativity,
00;16;39;27 - 00;16;43;27
like not being the number one like
you can lead all of the difficult stuff
00;16;43;27 - 00;16;46;22
or have the difficult conversations
and just give me the creative part.
00;16;46;22 - 00;16;49;11
I will create something for you.
I will help you.
00;16;49;11 - 00;16;51;15
So I love being the number two.
00;16;51;15 - 00;16;53;07
Yes, I love helping.
00;16;53;07 - 00;16;57;19
And once I was able to discover
that about myself, I was able to
00;16;58;06 - 00;17;03;15
just find myself within the church
and do that and and serve God in that way
00;17;03;15 - 00;17;05;05
so comfortably, without
00;17;05;05 - 00;17;08;28
having to compare myself to other people
or trying to lead like other people.
00;17;08;28 - 00;17;09;11
Yeah.
00;17;09;11 - 00;17;14;01
I was just able to do that genuinely,
how God created me to be.
00;17;14;01 - 00;17;16;12
And there's such a freedom
when it comes to that.
00;17;16;12 - 00;17;18;22
Oh, that's beautiful.
That is such a freedom.
00;17;18;22 - 00;17;22;25
It's funny, I used to be a personality
test junkie when I was in my 20s.
00;17;22;25 - 00;17;23;11
My best friend.
00;17;23;11 - 00;17;25;21
I would go to Barnes and Noble, Lindsey,
00;17;25;21 - 00;17;28;26
shout out, dude,
we would go to Barnes Noble and go to the,
00;17;29;00 - 00;17;33;03
self-help section
and like, grab all the personality tests.
00;17;33;03 - 00;17;36;25
And it's funny that personality test
can sometimes limit you,
00;17;36;25 - 00;17;40;03
but what I hear you saying
is that it helped learn you.
00;17;40;03 - 00;17;42;02
You were able to learn yourself.
00;17;42;02 - 00;17;45;13
So when you can learn who you are
and who God created you to be,
00;17;45;23 - 00;17;49;13
then you can operate
in the freedom of those boundaries.
00;17;49;13 - 00;17;53;11
Yeah, yeah,
they can either be a limitation or learn
00;17;53;11 - 00;17;56;21
how you can be your authentic full self.
00;17;56;27 - 00;18;00;08
And yeah,
I love that about personality test.
00;18;00;08 - 00;18;05;17
But I, we talked about this a little bit
before we, we jumped into the room.
00;18;05;25 - 00;18;07;06
But I do think that
00;18;07;06 - 00;18;11;04
there's a level of boundaries
that are necessary when you are creating.
00;18;11;04 - 00;18;14;14
And what I hear you saying
is even the boundary
00;18;14;14 - 00;18;19;09
of seeing a creative as,
someone who's helping.
00;18;19;15 - 00;18;20;10
Yeah.
00;18;20;10 - 00;18;24;13
Is huge, because I think people
are obsessed with creativity.
00;18;24;13 - 00;18;28;15
I mean, it's shirts at H&M and different
trendy stores will be like,
00;18;28;15 - 00;18;33;02
creative director and like,
creativity is so celebrated in culture,
00;18;33;20 - 00;18;37;08
but I think that there has to be a level
of boundaries and limitations,
00;18;37;08 - 00;18;39;05
otherwise we become okay.
00;18;39;05 - 00;18;40;11
So we're talking about any grandma.
00;18;40;11 - 00;18;43;19
I'm an Enneagram three
and I can be sometimes wing four.
00;18;43;22 - 00;18;46;07
Which of four is an individualist?
00;18;46;07 - 00;18;50;04
I know there are times in my life where
I would achieve certain things in my life
00;18;50;04 - 00;18;51;26
just so that I could be individual,
00;18;51;26 - 00;18;55;04
and the only way I know I'm winning
is if it's different from everybody else.
00;18;55;04 - 00;18;55;18
Yeah.
00;18;55;18 - 00;18;58;21
And that individualism is rooted in pride.
00;18;58;21 - 00;19;00;16
Yeah. So when it comes to creativity,
00;19;00;16 - 00;19;03;16
what kind of boundaries
do you think are needed?
00;19;03;21 - 00;19;07;02
What I'm seeing is a strength of yours
is the humility to create,
00;19;07;02 - 00;19;08;15
and that gives you more freedom.
00;19;08;15 - 00;19;10;29
But talk to me
about some of the boundaries
00;19;10;29 - 00;19;12;21
that we're talking about
before we came in here.
00;19;12;21 - 00;19;16;06
Yeah, about what we need
when we are creating.
00;19;16;06 - 00;19;20;23
Yeah, I definitely think that in order
for you to create,
00;19;21;05 - 00;19;23;09
you have to be connected to the creator.
00;19;23;09 - 00;19;27;24
Yeah, you have to, you know, be connected
to to God because he is the source.
00;19;28;11 - 00;19;31;02
And I know there's probably
a lot of creatives out there
00;19;31;02 - 00;19;32;09
that, you know, probably
00;19;32;09 - 00;19;35;09
don't have a relationship with Jesus
and are creating amazing things.
00;19;35;11 - 00;19;39;12
But I do think that it's
limiting in the sense of
00;19;40;09 - 00;19;43;02
I can't imagine myself
creating without God.
00;19;43;02 - 00;19;47;19
Yeah, there's been season in my life
where I didn't have connection to him,
00;19;47;19 - 00;19;50;23
and those were the seasons where
I was like, I don't even know who I am.
00;19;50;23 - 00;19;53;22
I don't even know how to use
my giftings right.
00;19;53;24 - 00;19;58;16
And some of the things that I do,
you know, normally try to encourage
00;19;58;16 - 00;20;02;00
other creatives to do is daily practices
00;20;02;01 - 00;20;05;18
and disciplines like create, create,
00;20;05;18 - 00;20;08;23
habits in your life that are going to keep
you connected to God
00;20;08;23 - 00;20;13;15
because out of that is going to come
your most genuine creativeness.
00;20;13;15 - 00;20;14;18
Yeah.
00;20;14;18 - 00;20;17;29
And that's what I try to do,
although I'm not perfect at it.
00;20;18;09 - 00;20;21;18
I try to make sure
that I'm connected to God.
00;20;21;18 - 00;20;25;07
And then in those season,
in those moments, that's when I've created
00;20;25;07 - 00;20;28;07
a lot of the things that I feel
are really cool.
00;20;28;07 - 00;20;29;29
Yeah. And like, really creative.
00;20;29;29 - 00;20;34;22
And, you know, I think that's something
that we constantly have
00;20;34;22 - 00;20;38;08
to remind ourselves to do
is to be connected
00;20;38;08 - 00;20;41;08
to the source of created tivity,
which is which is God.
00;20;41;16 - 00;20;42;07
Yeah.
00;20;42;07 - 00;20;45;04
I think the criticism of great creatives
00;20;45;04 - 00;20;48;13
is that it's so self-serving.
00;20;48;13 - 00;20;50;28
Yeah. And sometimes performative. Yeah.
00;20;50;28 - 00;20;54;15
That when you're connected, it,
00;20;55;00 - 00;20;57;18
restrains you a little bit,
00;20;57;18 - 00;21;02;05
which I think restraint in our faith
is so necessary.
00;21;02;05 - 00;21;04;23
Yeah. Because our flesh is crazy, right?
Yeah.
00;21;04;23 - 00;21;08;13
So, something else
that you were telling me,
00;21;08;25 - 00;21;12;27
was about you reminding yourself
00;21;13;08 - 00;21;16;11
because of,
a letter that you received from said.
00;21;16;12 - 00;21;18;03
Can you tell everybody about that?
00;21;18;03 - 00;21;22;02
So last year, we wrote ourselves
a letter of sisterhood one day, and,
00;21;22;04 - 00;21;23;15
just whatever
00;21;23;15 - 00;21;27;08
you wanted to communicate to yourself
with your one year from now self.
00;21;27;11 - 00;21;31;13
So I remember I wrote myself
a few things, but one of them being,
00;21;31;24 - 00;21;34;21
your growth is going to be
00;21;34;21 - 00;21;38;03
is rooted in spiritual disciplines
or spiritual practices.
00;21;38;19 - 00;21;42;09
And I remember, you know,
I wrote that because in that moment,
00;21;42;09 - 00;21;43;22
you know,
I truly it and I still believe it.
00;21;43;22 - 00;21;47;10
But I was like all of,
you know, in my spiritual practices, and
00;21;48;08 - 00;21;50;16
I've been struggling with that
ever since January
00;21;50;16 - 00;21;52;03
just because of the busyness of life.
00;21;52;03 - 00;21;56;26
I've just allowed that to just take a hold
of, of of how my routines are going.
00;21;57;08 - 00;22;01;29
But when I received that note,
this last week, I was like, bro,
00;22;01;29 - 00;22;06;06
thank you, thank you, Gabby,
from last year because it's so true.
00;22;06;07 - 00;22;09;15
Yes, you need to be rooted
in your spiritual practices.
00;22;09;17 - 00;22;12;06
And that's
where growth is going to come from.
00;22;12;06 - 00;22;15;10
That's where,
courage is going to come from.
00;22;15;10 - 00;22;19;11
That's where your identity
is going to be found in, in Jesus.
00;22;19;16 - 00;22;23;23
And as long as you're continuing to,
to pursue that into
00;22;24;04 - 00;22;27;09
and to really, truly apply
that into your life,
00;22;27;09 - 00;22;30;05
you're not going to wonder,
you're not going to be lost.
00;22;30;05 - 00;22;32;07
You're not going to be like, what am I?
00;22;32;07 - 00;22;33;22
What on earth am I here for?
00;22;33;22 - 00;22;36;05
You're going to truly find your purpose.
00;22;36;05 - 00;22;39;05
Yeah. Oh, that's so good. I love that.
00;22;39;09 - 00;22;40;25
Thanks for the reminder, Gabby.
00;22;40;25 - 00;22;42;00
I think some of you, I don't know
00;22;42;00 - 00;22;45;29
if everyone has received their letters,
but I hope they have, because sometimes
00;22;45;29 - 00;22;49;12
God blesses things in our hearts
and he speaks to us.
00;22;49;12 - 00;22;51;04
Encouragement.
We have to remind ourselves.
00;22;51;04 - 00;22;54;03
It reminds me of David just saying,
strengthen yourself in the Lord.
00;22;54;03 - 00;22;55;09
Remember what he has said.
00;22;55;09 - 00;22;57;08
Remember what he told you
and remind yourself,
00;22;57;08 - 00;22;59;20
we have to strengthen ourselves
in the Lord.
00;22;59;20 - 00;23;00;17
Gosh.
00;23;00;17 - 00;23;03;15
And especially with creative efforts.
00;23;03;15 - 00;23;07;25
I would call myself creative
to a degree as well.
00;23;07;25 - 00;23;08;29
And in fact,
00;23;10;07 - 00;23;12;09
the core value that we
00;23;12;09 - 00;23;15;09
have here, one of our blueprints
is that creative is our spirit.
00;23;15;09 - 00;23;19;11
And I'm convinced that creativity is
00;23;19;11 - 00;23;22;11
not should not just be relegated to music,
00;23;22;18 - 00;23;26;19
should not just be relegated to like
I paint.
00;23;26;22 - 00;23;31;02
There's so much that
I think my husband, he's so creative,
00;23;31;19 - 00;23;34;19
he would not comment inside of a musician
or an artist.
00;23;34;22 - 00;23;36;28
His handwriting is terrible,
which I don't know.
00;23;36;28 - 00;23;39;20
That has anything to do. Nothing.
00;23;39;20 - 00;23;43;16
I creative,
but when I hear his thought process
00;23;43;16 - 00;23;48;15
in creating sermon series, I'm like,
oh my gosh, amazing.
00;23;48;15 - 00;23;52;24
When I think of administrative assistant
who will create schedules
00;23;52;24 - 00;23;57;21
and create solutions for organizations,
I'm always so amazed.
00;23;57;21 - 00;24;00;25
So I do think that it's in our spirit.
Yeah.
00;24;01;01 - 00;24;03;18
If this Holy Spirit is living in us
to create.
00;24;03;18 - 00;24;04;01
Yeah.
00;24;04;01 - 00;24;07;01
And so, I just
00;24;07;02 - 00;24;11;07
I think that more people need
to see themselves as creatives.
00;24;11;07 - 00;24;13;18
Yeah. Speak to that a little bit for me.
00;24;13;18 - 00;24;16;20
Like when you
if you were here encouraging.
00;24;16;20 - 00;24;20;10
I'm already having these visions of you
starting a sister group.
00;24;20;21 - 00;24;24;14
This is totally me telling her
because I'm her husband's boss.
00;24;24;14 - 00;24;25;03
I'm just kidding.
00;24;26;04 - 00;24;26;20
But I'm like,
00;24;26;20 - 00;24;29;28
some part of me is like, dude,
I could totally see you leading.
00;24;29;28 - 00;24;32;20
Like,
this effort of all these women creatives.
00;24;32;20 - 00;24;37;16
Like doing creative, like,
daily challenges to stay consistent.
00;24;37;16 - 00;24;42;10
And I know that's, a challenge
for creatives sometimes, you know?
00;24;42;11 - 00;24;43;00
Yeah.
00;24;43;00 - 00;24;44;08
Anyways, how would you encourage
00;24;44;08 - 00;24;46;26
creatives in the church
who are looking for their place?
00;24;46;26 - 00;24;47;05
Yeah.
00;24;47;05 - 00;24;50;14
In the church are looking
to express themselves, you know,
00;24;51;01 - 00;24;52;05
how would you speak to them?
00;24;52;05 - 00;24;55;19
I would say definitely
00;24;56;07 - 00;24;59;07
challenge yourself
to practice your creativity.
00;24;59;14 - 00;25;02;08
So whatever it be that you feel
00;25;02;08 - 00;25;06;05
God has really gifted you to do, do that
if it's cooking, right?
00;25;06;07 - 00;25;07;03
Shout out to Athena.
00;25;07;03 - 00;25;10;03
I love her cooking, Instagram,
00;25;10;07 - 00;25;13;13
you know, posts, but her craft is to cook.
00;25;13;13 - 00;25;15;08
Yes, and she does it so beautifully.
00;25;15;08 - 00;25;18;10
But she practices even though
maybe her dish might not be perfect.
00;25;18;18 - 00;25;21;06
Maybe the you know, the video
that she post might not be perfect.
00;25;21;06 - 00;25;22;08
She's practicing.
00;25;22;08 - 00;25;25;18
She's building that muscle
of like creating, creating, creating
00;25;26;00 - 00;25;31;15
whether maybe your, you know,
your gifting is teaching people
00;25;31;15 - 00;25;33;24
how to take care of their bodies
and working out
00;25;33;24 - 00;25;38;07
and if that's what your passion is,
then continue to create that, create
00;25;38;09 - 00;25;42;01
space for women to come
and feel comfortable and, you know,
00;25;42;01 - 00;25;45;27
teach them how to work out their bodies
and how to take care of themselves.
00;25;45;27 - 00;25;48;05
So all of those things are creativity.
00;25;48;05 - 00;25;50;11
Like,
that's something that God placed in you.
00;25;50;11 - 00;25;51;15
That's a passion of yours.
00;25;51;15 - 00;25;53;04
And it's not by accident.
00;25;53;04 - 00;25;55;16
It's it's something that God, you know,
put in your heart.
00;25;55;16 - 00;25;58;15
And if that's what it is
and just continue to do it.
00;25;58;18 - 00;26;01;20
I've really challenged myself this year
with,
00;26;02;00 - 00;26;06;15
posting like things that I create
because I always second guess myself.
00;26;06;15 - 00;26;08;26
And I'm like, Anthony,
is this like, does this look good?
00;26;08;26 - 00;26;11;03
And I'm like,
no, no, no, I messed up here.
00;26;11;03 - 00;26;11;23
And something
00;26;11;23 - 00;26;16;03
that, you know, I've heard before
and it's out of the Atomic Habits book is
00;26;16;03 - 00;26;20;02
you have to practice it,
even if you're not 100% okay with it.
00;26;20;13 - 00;26;24;17
It's like just that practice of it
is going to help you make it a habit.
00;26;24;28 - 00;26;25;18
Yeah.
00;26;25;18 - 00;26;28;14
So I've posted things that I am not 100%
00;26;28;14 - 00;26;31;14
what, you know, 100% in love with.
00;26;31;18 - 00;26;34;09
And I'm trying to create that
00;26;34;09 - 00;26;38;06
habit of just like
putting my art out there or my creativity
00;26;38;06 - 00;26;42;22
out there, because I know that there's
a message behind what I'm creating.
00;26;43;05 - 00;26;44;22
I want people to see Jesus.
00;26;44;22 - 00;26;46;26
I want them to grow in their faith.
00;26;46;26 - 00;26;50;02
And,
that's how I express my message, right?
00;26;50;02 - 00;26;53;07
Antonio's really good at expressing it
vocally or verbally.
00;26;53;07 - 00;26;58;21
Yeah, but what I do is like, I put it on
pictures because I can't say it out loud.
00;26;59;02 - 00;27;02;08
And just the practice of that
I think is very important.
00;27;02;08 - 00;27;03;05
Yes, there.
00;27;03;05 - 00;27;07;26
And all your posts are worthy of reposting
and they are beautiful.
00;27;07;26 - 00;27;11;00
You mentioned the book
Atomic Habits. Yes.
00;27;11;09 - 00;27;13;02
And I love that.
00;27;13;02 - 00;27;16;01
I'm actually, I just picked up
the workbook that goes along with it.
00;27;16;01 - 00;27;17;23
So to work on that.
00;27;17;23 - 00;27;20;23
So you kind of do that
what you're talking about like daily
00;27;21;04 - 00;27;23;25
yeah.
00;27;23;25 - 00;27;25;01
Building daily habits.
00;27;25;01 - 00;27;28;05
And it's kind of like what you're saying
about just that routine with Jesus.
00;27;28;05 - 00;27;28;19
Yeah.
00;27;28;19 - 00;27;31;28
Having those disciplines in place
are going to help you.
00;27;31;28 - 00;27;34;14
I actually have a book recommendation
for creatives.
00;27;34;14 - 00;27;37;16
And I remember
one of our associate pastors
00;27;37;22 - 00;27;39;17
who he wouldn't consider himself
creative either,
00;27;39;17 - 00;27;43;10
but he was always creating solutions
and systems within our organization.
00;27;43;10 - 00;27;44;12
And he loved it.
00;27;44;12 - 00;27;47;06
Because we're all called to be creatives.
00;27;47;06 - 00;27;49;03
We are all creative.
Creative is our spirit.
00;27;49;03 - 00;27;52;10
But it's manage your day to day,
build your routine,
00;27;52;17 - 00;27;55;17
find your focus and sharpen
your creative mind.
00;27;55;17 - 00;27;58;17
Wow, this book was so practical.
00;27;58;17 - 00;27;59;25
It's such a quick read.
00;27;59;25 - 00;28;03;23
It's by Jocelyn Gail Lee.
00;28;03;23 - 00;28;04;26
I mean, yeah,
00;28;04;26 - 00;28;09;08
and that one was helpful to me, but
I'm actually about to start another book.
00;28;09;08 - 00;28;13;08
I love that you said Atomic Habits,
but it's called The Artist's Way.
00;28;13;08 - 00;28;15;10
Have you heard of it? No. Oh my gosh.
00;28;15;10 - 00;28;19;24
So I was with my friend the other day,
Carly, shout out, at her place.
00;28;19;24 - 00;28;24;05
And it's this book that really helps you.
00;28;24;13 - 00;28;28;09
It says, this artist's Way,
a spiritual path to higher creativity.
00;28;28;12 - 00;28;31;23
And there's these daily practices
that you do.
00;28;31;23 - 00;28;38;02
Yeah, to just release some creativity,
but also staying connected.
00;28;38;02 - 00;28;38;16
Yeah.
00;28;38;16 - 00;28;44;03
I do believe that when we go,
you know, crazy with our creativity.
00;28;44;04 - 00;28;44;21
Yeah.
00;28;44;21 - 00;28;50;28
And we love what we're creating,
it can quickly slant towards pride.
00;28;50;28 - 00;28;51;09
Yeah.
00;28;51;09 - 00;28;55;03
For what you created
or major self-deprecation.
00;28;55;03 - 00;28;58;03
Yeah. And like neither is good.
00;28;58;15 - 00;29;00;08
And one might seem humble and it's not.
00;29;00;08 - 00;29;03;15
And I talked to you about this beforehand,
but sometimes there's a false
00;29;03;15 - 00;29;07;10
humility that comes upon us,
and especially with creativity.
00;29;07;10 - 00;29;08;28
And it's it's such a trap.
00;29;08;28 - 00;29;10;20
And we need to get to a place where
00;29;10;20 - 00;29;13;21
if we're connected to our creator,
like you said, if we're connected
00;29;13;21 - 00;29;19;26
to our spiritual disciplines,
then the spiritual journey, of creativity
00;29;20;06 - 00;29;24;15
with creativity will lead us down
the right path, you know?
00;29;24;15 - 00;29;27;08
So the Artist's Way is, you know, that
I love that.
00;29;27;08 - 00;29;29;29
I think something important
that we also have to remember is
00;29;29;29 - 00;29;32;29
because as creatives, and especially
when you create something visual,
00;29;33;07 - 00;29;37;21
you pay a lot of attention to feedback or
or maybe the outcome.
00;29;38;01 - 00;29;39;11
How many people liked my post?
00;29;39;11 - 00;29;43;06
How many people saw my post, how many
people repost it and it could get to you?
00;29;43;06 - 00;29;46;06
So we have to remember that our identity
00;29;46;09 - 00;29;49;10
and our affirmation doesn't come
from what we create.
00;29;49;11 - 00;29;49;24
Yeah, we.
00;29;49;24 - 00;29;52;09
Create as a reflection of our relationship
with God.
00;29;52;09 - 00;29;55;04
Yeah, but that is not
where we get our affirmation right.
00;29;55;04 - 00;29;58;04
That's not where we get our our
our purpose.
00;29;58;09 - 00;30;01;08
Yes. It's
literally in Jesus that we get that.
00;30;01;08 - 00;30;01;20
Yeah.
00;30;01;20 - 00;30;06;11
And we are just creating out of our,
the overflow of our relationship with him.
00;30;06;11 - 00;30;06;21
Yeah.
00;30;06;21 - 00;30;09;26
So I want to encourage you
to how the creatives don't
00;30;09;26 - 00;30;16;11
focus on people's reactions or people's,
lack of reactions
00;30;16;11 - 00;30;19;28
to what you create, because that's
how you know who you're creating for.
00;30;20;04 - 00;30;21;04
You're creating for God.
00;30;21;04 - 00;30;25;15
And then that is where you find
your purpose in your affirmation, etc..
00;30;25;15 - 00;30;25;29
Yeah.
00;30;25;29 - 00;30;28;04
How do you
when you put something out there?
00;30;28;04 - 00;30;29;08
You've been posting a lot more.
00;30;29;08 - 00;30;29;23
Yeah.
00;30;29;23 - 00;30;33;27
When you put something out there, how
do you protect your mind from going there?
00;30;34;01 - 00;30;34;27
Yeah.
00;30;34;27 - 00;30;39;16
I just look at the one like,
I think of the one like the one person who
00;30;39;17 - 00;30;42;23
maybe might, you know, message me and say,
00;30;42;23 - 00;30;45;23
hey, like this really spoke to me like,
00;30;45;26 - 00;30;49;25
and I'm like, okay, even if it was
just for that one person, that's okay.
00;30;49;26 - 00;30;52;17
Yeah.
And I don't need more more than that.
00;30;52;17 - 00;30;58;12
So I think just trying to remember
maybe there might be someone who,
00;30;58;12 - 00;31;03;04
you know, this speaks to and if it's true,
it was just for that one person.
00;31;03;18 - 00;31;05;09
That post was worth it.
00;31;05;09 - 00;31;05;28
Yeah.
00;31;05;28 - 00;31;11;03
Well, I also would say,
when I was preaching messages
00;31;11;03 - 00;31;15;00
and we started putting like, reels out
or just putting him on YouTube
00;31;15;00 - 00;31;16;09
at the beginning of our church.
00;31;16;09 - 00;31;20;00
Yeah, I would get so like, how did I do?
00;31;20;00 - 00;31;21;15
I mean, I was an obsessive
00;31;21;15 - 00;31;24;24
in the beginning of our church,
probably this is like 13 years ago ish.
00;31;25;05 - 00;31;28;03
I remember
I took advice from my friend Havilah
00;31;28;03 - 00;31;31;03
and he's and she's
she's a speaker and a author.
00;31;31;29 - 00;31;36;08
She said, I turn off social media for,
00;31;36;08 - 00;31;40;12
a certain amount of time
after I preach so that you're not
00;31;41;11 - 00;31;44;00
you're not waiting to hear reactions.
00;31;44;00 - 00;31;47;07
I think if we are truly called to create
00;31;47;10 - 00;31;52;07
and we're not creating for anybody,
but for our creator, for his glory, yeah.
00;31;52;10 - 00;31;53;11
Because that's that's the problem.
00;31;53;11 - 00;31;57;06
When we're creating for people,
we're creating for our own glory.
00;31;57;08 - 00;31;59;03
Yeah. You know, I mean, not sorry.
00;31;59;03 - 00;32;01;11
You can create for people and bless them.
00;32;01;11 - 00;32;04;11
But if we're not creating to bless them,
00;32;04;14 - 00;32;07;21
with what God's given us,
then it can go sideways.
00;32;08;03 - 00;32;12;06
So anyways, I, I had to discipline myself
00;32;12;10 - 00;32;16;04
to, be okay with creating if nobody saw.
00;32;16;14 - 00;32;19;10
And that's why I think it's so important
to do some of these daily habits.
00;32;19;10 - 00;32;21;09
Like, do you do it for the love of it?
00;32;21;09 - 00;32;26;13
Do it for what God's placed in you before
you even throw it out to the wolves.
00;32;26;22 - 00;32;28;02
Yeah, because that's what it feels like.
00;32;28;02 - 00;32;28;15
Oh, yeah.
00;32;28;15 - 00;32;32;00
But then, when you know
that you satisfied your creator.
00;32;32;03 - 00;32;32;06
Yeah.
00;32;32;06 - 00;32;36;15
You satisfied what he's placed in you
and your desire to do it.
00;32;36;27 - 00;32;42;14
Gosh, like, that's such a strong place
to create from a strong identity.
00;32;42;24 - 00;32;44;23
Strong foundation to create from. Yeah.
00;32;44;23 - 00;32;49;23
And then you kind of let, let the art
do what it needs to do outside.
00;32;49;23 - 00;32;51;07
Yeah. Once you've released it.
00;32;51;07 - 00;32;52;21
Yeah. You know. Yeah.
00;32;52;21 - 00;32;54;18
So no, that's really good.
00;32;54;18 - 00;32;56;14
Antonio was really good
at reminding me of that.
00;32;56;14 - 00;32;58;25
He's like, okay, you first
said, okay, get off your phone.
00;32;58;25 - 00;32;59;24
Like just hang out with us.
00;32;59;24 - 00;33;02;25
And I'm like, okay, yes,
I need to step away because,
00;33;02;27 - 00;33;06;11
you know, our nature would be like,
how many likes or how many views.
00;33;06;15 - 00;33;09;10
Yeah, yeah.
So that's such a good reminder. Yeah.
00;33;09;10 - 00;33;10;29
Caleb still the same way.
00;33;10;29 - 00;33;13;04
He's like, just post it and get over it.
00;33;13;04 - 00;33;14;27
He's like, not overthinking it. Yeah.
00;33;14;27 - 00;33;15;22
And I'm like, that's
00;33;15;22 - 00;33;20;04
because you have like less fear about what
I'm posting or what I'm reposting.
00;33;20;04 - 00;33;22;26
I'm the worst at picking my. Sermon clips.
00;33;22;26 - 00;33;25;02
Because I'm like, you know. Yeah.
00;33;25;02 - 00;33;27;05
And he's just like, I just pick it.
Whatever. It doesn't matter.
00;33;27;05 - 00;33;29;08
It's going to bless. It's
going to bless people. Period.
00;33;29;08 - 00;33;33;05
And so I love that faith
filled perspective.
00;33;33;05 - 00;33;33;13
Yeah.
00;33;33;13 - 00;33;36;16
But it's the fear that really cripples
creatives.
00;33;36;17 - 00;33;37;18
Oh, yeah.
00;33;37;18 - 00;33;42;01
I've learned that fear has stopped me
from so much.
00;33;42;01 - 00;33;45;14
There's so many things that I was,
I would have been able to accomplish
00;33;45;14 - 00;33;50;10
if I would
of not given to the given to fear.
00;33;50;17 - 00;33;52;10
Fear is crippling.
00;33;52;10 - 00;33;53;11
It is crippling.
00;33;53;11 - 00;33;54;25
It lies to us.
00;33;54;25 - 00;33;57;23
It magnifies the wrong things. And
00;33;59;00 - 00;34;00;06
oh man,
00;34;00;06 - 00;34;04;09
I think if we could just get, like you
said, stay connected to our creator.
00;34;04;21 - 00;34;08;06
Understand that
all that we create is for his purposes.
00;34;08;06 - 00;34;11;05
We would be way more faith filled.
00;34;11;05 - 00;34;12;21
They filled to create.
00;34;12;21 - 00;34;16;13
They filled to put things out there,
faith filled to give God glory.
00;34;16;16 - 00;34;19;16
Yeah, not concerned about the glory
that we would receive
00;34;19;16 - 00;34;20;29
from anything that we create.
00;34;20;29 - 00;34;23;29
So can I, can I just say one more thing?
00;34;24;03 - 00;34;27;02
And I don't know if this is going to take
the conversation somewhere else, but,
00;34;27;02 - 00;34;31;07
I if there are creatives out there,
I really encourage
00;34;31;07 - 00;34;37;11
you guys to serve in church, like plug
into serving in in in your local community
00;34;37;11 - 00;34;41;12
because honestly,
you're going to really find purpose there.
00;34;41;12 - 00;34;45;18
I found my purpose
even creatively within the church.
00;34;46;04 - 00;34;47;09
I saw that, you know,
00;34;47;09 - 00;34;51;10
once I was able to find a space
for who I was and how was I created?
00;34;51;23 - 00;34;56;08
Once I started to do that,
I started to grow so much more in
00;34;56;19 - 00;34;59;28
and in my create, in my creativity, and
00;35;00;18 - 00;35;03;19
just being able to serve the local church
with that has been amazing.
00;35;03;19 - 00;35;07;03
And we have so many amazing people
that serve here at Project,
00;35;07;14 - 00;35;10;21
creative, you know, creatives,
whether it be atmosphere
00;35;10;21 - 00;35;14;13
or team support.
00;35;14;13 - 00;35;14;19
Yeah.
00;35;14;19 - 00;35;19;02
Because even those people, the way
that they just serve us is so beautiful.
00;35;19;12 - 00;35;24;02
And, you know, media and social media,
you know, graphic.
00;35;24;02 - 00;35;27;15
All of those people are doing
such amazing work.
00;35;27;15 - 00;35;30;27
And I'm so thankful that they said yes
to serving the local church, because,
00;35;31;15 - 00;35;34;11
you know,
we do push each other on, you know,
00;35;34;11 - 00;35;37;11
higher levels and,
and just being around each other.
00;35;37;11 - 00;35;38;06
So beautiful.
00;35;38;06 - 00;35;39;06
Yeah, yeah.
00;35;39;06 - 00;35;41;02
You spur one another on to good work.
00;35;41;02 - 00;35;43;20
Yes. Create good creative works. Yeah.
00;35;43;20 - 00;35;47;24
And what better way to give of your gifts
then?
00;35;47;24 - 00;35;49;14
Give it as unto the Lord.
00;35;49;14 - 00;35;53;27
And, and that's even a place
where you can build your confidence.
00;35;53;27 - 00;35;54;17
Oh, yeah.
00;35;54;17 - 00;35;57;19
And then know that
you're that there's people
00;35;57;19 - 00;36;00;20
if you do go out
and you want to go after this
00;36;00;20 - 00;36;04;06
creative endeavor,
you have this whole family behind you
00;36;04;06 - 00;36;07;14
that can attest to your creativity,
encourage
00;36;07;14 - 00;36;10;14
you in it, strengthen that gift in you.
00;36;10;17 - 00;36;14;06
But what I'm hearing from this,
this episode,
00;36;14;16 - 00;36;17;14
is that we need to grow some more creative
muscles.
00;36;17;14 - 00;36;21;26
So, yeah, and the best way to grow them
and mature them
00;36;22;07 - 00;36;24;28
is to stay connected
to the one who deserves
00;36;24;28 - 00;36;27;28
all the glory for it,
because he placed it in us to begin with.
00;36;28;06 - 00;36;29;27
Because if we're not.
00;36;29;27 - 00;36;30;09
Yeah.
00;36;30;09 - 00;36;32;18
Doing it
with the intention of giving him glory.
00;36;32;18 - 00;36;35;20
We're for stealing glory. Yeah. Oh. Yeah.
00;36;35;21 - 00;36;40;27
The worst creators are creators
that steal from the glory of God.
00;36;40;27 - 00;36;43;27
And that is evil. Demonic. Yeah.
00;36;43;27 - 00;36;48;22
And so I pray that as women and maybe men
00;36;48;29 - 00;36;52;28
have listened to this podcast
that they're encouraged to create for,
00;36;53;06 - 00;36;56;00
you know, the number one first all time
00;36;56;00 - 00;36;59;03
go creator of all time, she says code.
00;36;59;16 - 00;37;03;28
They go God, creator God almighty,
you know?
00;37;03;29 - 00;37;04;05
Yeah.
00;37;04;05 - 00;37;07;04
But yeah, I love what God's doing in you.
00;37;07;04 - 00;37;11;04
I don't this is not the last we've heard
or seen from Pastor Gabby.
00;37;11;14 - 00;37;12;27
We're so blessed.
00;37;12;27 - 00;37;15;15
Our community is so blessed by you.
00;37;15;15 - 00;37;17;29
And you are just a treasure.
00;37;17;29 - 00;37;19;22
The sweetest thing.
00;37;19;22 - 00;37;21;27
The most creative thing.
00;37;21;27 - 00;37;22;22
I don't mean thing.
00;37;22;22 - 00;37;24;18
The most creative person,
00;37;24;18 - 00;37;27;15
and just really have
strengthened the sisterhood so much.
00;37;27;15 - 00;37;28;28
So we're grateful for you.
00;37;28;28 - 00;37;31;16
And again, this isn't
the last we've seen a pastor, Gabby.
00;37;31;16 - 00;37;33;20
We'll have her
on some more podcast episodes.
00;37;33;20 - 00;37;37;17
And if you attend, Project South
Sacramento, you see a lot of her there.
00;37;37;17 - 00;37;41;13
But, stay tuned for more sisterhood
events, and Pastor
00;37;41;13 - 00;37;42;29
Gabby will be involved, obviously.
00;37;42;29 - 00;37;45;24
But, hey, I hope that you're encouraged.
00;37;45;24 - 00;37;49;26
We had a few book recommendations for you
this podcast episode,
00;37;50;15 - 00;37;53;09
and, we hope that you really do
take this seriously.
00;37;53;09 - 00;37;56;09
Ask the Lord what he's asked you to create
00;37;56;16 - 00;38;00;06
and be obedient to that and again,
it's all for his glory.
00;38;00;06 - 00;38;02;19
Everything you create, it's for his glory.
00;38;02;19 - 00;38;04;15
So we hope you enjoyed this podcast.
00;38;04;15 - 00;38;07;14
Thanks for being with me, Pastor Gabby.
We will see you next time.
00;38;07;14 - 00;38;10;11
Make sure that you share any of the clips
from here.
00;38;10;11 - 00;38;12;07
Follow us on YouTube.
00;38;12;07 - 00;38;14;29
Sisterhood on Instagram.
00;38;14;29 - 00;38;16;16
All the things we love you.
00;38;16;16 - 00;38;17;25
We'll see you next time. Adios.
